philippe lazzarini says five food trucks were stolen by armed groups on saturday. it comes as the charity save the children named a staff member killed yesterday in an israeli air strike, as 39—year—old, ahmad faisal isleem al-qadi. save the children says it condemns the attack in khan younis "in the strongest terms" and is demanding an investigation. the israeli army says a vehicle with armed terrorists that posed a threat to idf soldiers was identified in the area of khan yunis. a strike was conducted to remove the threat and the details of the incident are under review. the hamas—run health ministry in gaza, whose figures the un considers reliable, says almost 44—and—a—half thousand palestinians have been killed in israel's military offensive since october last year. it says more than 105—thousand have been injured. let's speak to alexandra saieh who is the head of humanitarian policy & advocacy at save the children international. we have asked the israeli defense forces for an interview

just tell us a little bit about it they must be desperately sad with this latest development. thank you for having me. everyone at save the children is devastated by the killing of our colleague in gaza yesterday in an israeli air strike. he was on his way home to his wife and his three—year—old daughter when he was killed in the air strike will stop he was 39 years old, he had a hearing impairment. his colleagues remember him as always being determined to help others, he always had a smile on his face. he always managed to brighten his colleague's day, even in the darkest of days in gaza, and he had immense pride for his three—year—old daughter. we are just absolutely devastated. not so long ago, he had also shared with his colleagues with his dream of rebuilding his

home in gaza, which was also destroyed in an israeli air strike in the past year. we are in contact with this family and we are trying our best to do what we can to help them and support them in this heartbreaking time. you know, heartbreaking time. you know, he is not the first colleague that we have lost in the last year. he is the second staff member who was killed in israeli air strike in the last months. our colleague was also killed alongside his entire family in an israeli air strike in an israeli air strike he was in an israeli air strike he was in almost a year ago. we are absolutely devastated, we are calling for an investigation it needs to stop happening, the loss of life in gaza is just devastating, it's relentless and it needs to stop. alexander, the israeli military have said that the strike was conducted against a vehicle
5:04 pm
identified as carrying armed terrorists who they claim posed a threat to idf soldiers. they say that prior to the strike, numerous steps mitigated, surveillance and using precise munitions coming about save the children, i know that you've called for an investigation, is that something that sounds like what happened on the ground? we what happened on the ground? - need real answers. what we have seenin need real answers. what we have seen in gaza in the last 13 months is utter and complete disregard civilian life. we are seeing civilians killed in gaza every single day. we are seeing humanitarian aid workers killed every single week. people in gaza have been pushed beyond their limits, they are leaving a complete nightmare and we need the attacks that are killing civilians to stop. we have asked _ killing civilians to stop. we have asked the _ killing civilians to stop. we have asked the israel defense force for an interview, we've
5:05 pm
asked them to respond. they didn't have a spokesperson available for today, we did have that statement from them. in terms of alexander, in terms of the situation on the ground itself i know save the children are grieving, but also you have been working in gaza in order to alleviate the suffering of children, just with the crossing now potentially closed, how much more complicated does that make the work that you do? it complicated does that make the work that you do?— work that you do? it makes it ever complicated. _ work that you do? it makes it i ever complicated. humanitarian needs in gaza are at an all—time high. not only is a situation in northern gaza absolutely catastrophic, but in central and southern gaza, we are seeing bakeries shut, we are seeing bakeries shut, we are seeing bakeries shut, we are seeing rising levels of malnutrition, of hunger, of desperation. my colleague was just telling me that a bag of potatoes can go up to hundred dollars, that's $20 potentially
5:06 pm
for potatoes. this demonstrates how absolutely desperate the situation is. we see children dying from malnutrition, from disease, winter is setting in, we saw last week the devastating impact that the flooding had on people that had nothing to shelter with but flimsy tenants. and so we are expecting the situation to deteriorate even further. we are talking about parts of gaza that are just completely unfit for human survival. that's how desperate the situation is. we need aid to flow, we need the safety of civilians and aid workers and we need a cease—fire immediately. alexander from save the children international, thank you very much for speaking to us on what is of course a very difficult day for your organisation. thank you. thank ou for organisation. thank you. thank you for having _ organisation. thank you. thank
