it is everything, it is everything for a lot of players, it really is. of course it is a game of football and that is how we will approach it but we know what is on the line out it would mean everything to the players and to the country if we qualified. —— but it would mean. the players are feeling good and relaxed. we are feeling well. ruud van nistelrooy meanwhile has revealed it "hurt" to leave manchester united as he prepares to take charge of his first match of leicester city against west ham. the dutchman had a four game spell as interim manger at united following the sacking of erik ten hag before amorim's apppiontment. he says he's excited and "proud to get the opportunity" at leicester. i'm not the romantic type of manager. that puts style in front of results. i love style and i love having the ball and i love creating lots of opportunities and i love pressing a team high because you have more of the ball and i

love to create a lot of chances for the attackers but we are facing opponents here and we are not the dominant side in this league so we approach every game to win, and the approach for that will be made. and ahead of his side's premier league clash tomorrow against newcastle united, liverpool manager arne slot insists his players must stay grounded despite being nine points clear at the top of the league and beating real madrid and manchester city last week. they also have experienced this, that they competed for a long time, and then in the end they could not manage to win it. they also know that it is a long season, and to win the league against the likes of chelsea, arsenal and manchester city, because i see those three is the main competitors at the moment, they all know that we have to be for ten months on top of our game because if you let down for a second, these

form of an ammonia but she has recovered well. —— form of pnuemonia. the king has met the emir of qatar, as part of a two—day state visit to the uk. the emir has been officially welcomed by king charles, and the prince and princess of wales. queen camilla missed the ceremonial welcome as she still has a lingering chest infection, but is said to be attending events at buckingham palace as we speak. my colleague, kasia madera, is outside the palace. i asked her what the royals are up to now. they're all inside having what's described as an informal lunch, though it's hard to imagine what an informal lunch looks like within buckingham palace. but yes, that's indeed what's happening.

they're also looking at some royal objects from the royal collection, and queen camilla isjoining them for this part of this state visit, because of course, she is still recovering from that lingering chest infection. we heard late last night that she wasn't going to take part in those outside aspects of this state visit of the emir of qatar and his wife. so that first big element of that pomp and ceremony is over with that progression down the mall with those carriages, you can probably hear the cleanup operation is now underway following that. but a lot to discuss, and i'm very pleased to say my guest with me is katie nicholl, vanity fair's royal editor, joining us now. and what we saw there, of course, queen camilla wasn't part of that procession down the mall, but we did see catherine, and that willjust be really nice for so many people who are wishing her well following her recovery from cancer. absolutely. well, we saw catherine on remembrance sunday. we saw her up there on the buckingham palace balcony for trooping the colour. but i think, of course, she wasn't here at the state visit we had earlier in the year with the emperor of japan. but for her to be here today is an important moment for her. i think it's a reminder, of course, her and prince of wales, prince william,

had that important role of collecting and bringing the sheikha and the emir over here, making sure that everything was a proper welcome, you know, really felt like the red carpet had been rolled out. and the king will have been very grateful for the support of the prince and princess of wales. i mean, we have certainly had moments in the royal calendar this year where the royal family has looked pretty skeletal, quite thin on the ground. i think today is a reminder that as we come to the end of a difficult year for the royal family, they were very much out in force. as you say, we didn't have the queen here for the official welcome, but she is there for the lunch. she'll be there this evening for the state banquet. so it feels a little different to what we're used to in terms of royal attendance. some are dipping in and out a little bit, but in terms of the protocol, the format, the pomp and the pageantry, it's everything that we would expect for a state visit. four friends who've just turned 70 have found themselves the subject of international attention after they posted what looks like an ordinary photo on a promenade, but there's

a history behind this particular holiday snap — one that goes back more than 50 years, when the four from northern england first posed at the same spot on a girls getaway in their teens. their recreation keeps true to the pose and the clothes, and it's been raising smiles since it was shared on social media. earlier i spoke to the friends, and asked them if they were suprised by the widespread interest in the photo. we cannot believe the reaction that we've had to this. it's been fabulous. i'm sure it has. and so i understand it was your idea to recreate the photo? yes. and they hated me for it. they didn't like it. to start with we did. we didn't want to dress up. no. but bless them, they all rallied round and they came up trumps. and the rest is history. do the three of you in halifax, do you remember that day when you were teenagers, looking so young, but so happy?

and the sense of camaraderie and friendship between you is so obvious in the photo. but do you remember the day? all: yes, we do. long time ago. sunny and hot. very sunny. all wearing the same skirts. except for one of us all wearing the same skirts from chelsea girl. and we all admire the fact that you've had to find outfits that are quite similar. did that prove to be tricky? no. vintage came up. did really well. yeah. vintage and charity shops. were your legs a bit cold? oh, yeah. it weren't too bad. the weather was quite good for october.

yeah, we were amazed. the president of south korea has declared emergency martial law, following a major battle with the opposition —controlled parliament, and he has blamed what he called anti—state forces and also north korea. the opposition has condemned the move and urged lawmakers to gather at the national assembly. we understand that is happening at the moment, but the people's leader has declared it is a wrong move and has vowed to block it. they will have to lift it if the majority of the national assembly demand it in a vote. the military is on—site at the moment from parliament and we they have suspended all the parliamentary activity and with the opposition calling for everyone to come down to

parliament, local news says members of the national assembly have now been banned from accessing the buildings. so it is a developing situation in south korea and we are also hearing the biden administration is in contact with the south korean government. do stay with us. hello. today hasn't turned into a bad day weather wise. cold for some of us, but there has been quite a lot of dry weather around and we will see further drier interludes through the rest of this week. things do look pretty changeable, though. there will also be spells of wind and rain, and it will be cold enough at times for some hill snow, including in association with this frontal system pushing its way in from the west. it's this ridge of high pressure that's been giving the dry interlude for most of us today. but this next frontal system already approaching, bringing some rain into parts of northern ireland,

scotland and some snow up over higher ground. could see several centimetres of snow over the highest ground in scotland, maybe a little bit over the tops of the pennines as well as this frontal system slips southeastwards as we go through the night. not much more than a band of cloud really left behind by the end of the night. but as it clears and the skies clear and temperatures drop away, we could have some icy stretches to contend with across some central and eastern parts of scotland as we go through tomorrow morning. a few fog patches as well, but we are in another one of these drier interludes with some spells of sunshine. however, here comes our next frontal system out towards the west, bringing rain into northern ireland, parts of western scotland. just ahead of that weather front we do start to bring in some slightly milder air. so belfast, plymouth, 11—12 degrees, colder further east. now that weather front will bring rain eastwards during wednesday evening. some very strong winds for a time as well in the northwest of scotland, easily seeing gales. gusts of 70, maybe 75mph, in the most exposed spots. with this area of low pressure here. and you can see another

frontal system racing in from the west for thursday. so just a brief dry interlude this time before rain returns from the west. pretty wet day for many. a windy day for many of us as well, but it will be a milder day. now, as that weather system swings away eastwards, again we see a drier interlude. spells of sunshine, some showers up to the north west. these will be wintry over high ground because we'll be back into some colder air at this stage. and then a huge amount of uncertainty in our forecast as we start the weekend. an area of low pressure set to move close to the uk. some computer models take it to the south of us, some bring it a bit further north. it does bring the threat of some very heavy rain and potentially some strong winds.

hello. let's start with that breaking news of the last hour — the president of south korea — has declared martial law. in a sudden late night television address, president yoon said, the move was necessary to protect the country from north korea's communist forces, and to eliminate anti—state elements. with more on this, here's our world service asia pacific editor, michael bristow this came as a total surprise. we are talking about south korea which is a liberal democracy. for decades, it has been very very stable. if you were talking about north korea, would not have been so much of a surprise. what happened, is
