for this club for so many years and for the brazil international team. and for the brazil internationalteam. it and for the brazil international team. it is definitely nice to have him back and have him available. but if you look at how his replacement did, it is not going to be easy to do it even better, so we expect definitely the same and may be on margins a bit better, but caoimhin did so well, that we can say we have two very good goalkeepers. real madrid, who lost to liverpool last time out in the champions league, face a tough assignment against in—form atalanta in bergamo. the iii—time champions have been boosted by the return to fitness of brazilian duo viniciuer and rodrygo ahead of a replay of this season's uefa super cup which real won 2—0. tomorrow is another tough game for us. against a top side team thatis for us. against a top side team that is very strong. but we are focused on us, focused on how we can affect the game and be

let's return to our main story — israel says it has destroyed syria's naval fleet. the defence minister warned islamist rebels who overthrew bashar al—assad that his country would never allow terrorists to threaten israel. syria's neighbours and the un have called for the israeli attacks to stop. since the fall of the syrian president bashar al—assad israel has been carrying out air strikes in syria. they said they have been employing troops in the buffer zone. let me show you what that looks like on the map. common heights are an area that israel seized on the six—day war in 1967, and unilaterally annexed in 1981, move that was not recognised internationally. we have seen evidence they have moved beyond the buffer zone into syria. this is an israeli soldier at that we verified anti—appears

to be about 700 metres outside the buffer zone in syria. we located him by matching his foot up with publicly available images like this. and these are very distinctive features, for example there is a road, this trench and this hill which confirms this is the spot it was taken. we also verified footage of what appears to be a convoy of israeli armed vehicles in the village in syria. close to the footer of the subject you have just seen, which is also in syria outside the buffer zone. the israeli army said the ground forces are focused on the buffer zone but said it could be forces operating in a tactical point adjacent to it on the syrian border. we have also been analysing a video of strikes in syria since the 18th of december in these areas that you can see here any points in red. including this strike overnight in the port of leicester syria, which is used by the syrian navy. —— western

syria. this is the aftermath, several ships and equipment left badly damaged and on fire. the israeli defence minister said it's maybe destroyed the syrian fleet. we also verified this video of a strike on a research centre in the outskirts of damascus. this is the aftermath of that strike. at least one of the main buildings of the centre has been completely destroyed, and this is a crucial site because according to the un watchdog, it led the country's chemical weapons programme, and traces of those weapons have been found at the centre in 2019 by that same watchdog, long after syria had declared it had destroyed its stockpile. the un found chemical weapons were used by assad in syria, including in the capital damascus by 2014, which reportedly killed hundreds of people. one expert said setting fire to chemical weapons is a good way to destroy them if you want to do so quickly, but he said there is a chance of collateral damage and
3:39 pm
casualties on the ground, but probably a smaller chance of contamination. israel says it is carrying out these operations to stop weapons falling into the hands of extremists following the overthrow of the assad regime. what impact that will have on the wider region remains to be seen. there are signs daily life is gradually returning to normal in the syrian syrian capital, damascus. you can see some people moving around damascus. the leader of the main islamist rebel group that overthrew the president has appointed an interim prime minister, and some civil servants have been asked to go back to work. reporters in damascus say several cafes and shops have begun to reopen; some staff at syria's central bank were seen returning to theirjobs. for the third day running, small crowds have continued to celebrate in the streets.

syria's devastating civil war forced huge sections of the population to flee the country in search of safety. among them was imad alarnab, a chef who left damascus in 2015 and now runs his own syrian kitchen in london. hejoins me now. thank you for being with us. as you watched these events unfold, how are you and your family feeling? we unfold, how are you and your family feeling?— family feeling? we felt so ha . . l family feeling? we felt so happy. some _ family feeling? we felt so happy, some level- family feeling? we felt so happy, some level of - family feeling? we felt so - happy, some level of happiness we never experienced before. it was a moment ofjoy, a moment of victory, a moment of hope. for a betterfuture, for of victory, a moment of hope. for a better future, for all of us to build syria again. we were so happy about it, and then suddenly israel attacked of course. and thank you so

much for all of the evidence and your hard work to show that israel is lying about being on the borders, but even if it is on the border, who gave the green light for israel to come and bomb our countries's why is it ok for israel to bomb chemical weapons in damascus? i do not speak for israel, but to try and put their side of it, from what we have heard, the justification is obviously they want to ensure chemical weapons or other weapons don't fall into the hands ofjihadists who are amongst the groups who have been involved in overthrowing the assad regime. they want to ensure, they say, that their neighbouring country is secure and isn't going to pose a
