protest songs to myself. when one of your friends gets shot and killed, you will never be the same person again. but there were moments i thought this darkness would never end. after four months in solitary, nasim is transferred to the main ward to await her sentence. the prisoners surrounded me. i could only cry. they are like butterflies that fly around you. they soothe my wounded wings. every morning i am awoken. we think about what to do to say we managed to live another day.

i cook to forget i'm waiting for a death sentence. the hangings take place after the call to prayer at dawn. nasim has been waiting for her sentence for 500 days. there are other women, too, suspended between life and death. every tuesday the women protest against executions. the no to execution campaign has spread from behind prison walls into the world. even though the prison has caged us, it cannot cage our voices. they sentence some of us to longer injailand cut off phone calls and visits. for one person at least the weight of the hangman�*s noose has lifted. today they announced my sentence — 7a lashes, six years

revolving around the heated election of a new pope. a classy commercial picture with a great performance from ralph fiennes. this is a conclave, aldo. it's not a war. it is a war. make a wish. one wish? in seventh place, the world war ii epic blitz from director steve mcqueen. a beautifully wrought story of a young boy trying to find his way home. wartime britain's home front depicted as a place for displays of stoicism, but also, as mcqueen makes clear, bigotry as well. # where have you been, my blue—eyed son?# at number six, a complete unknown — a portrait of bob dylan's early years. timothee chalamet shines as the young dylan, but some of the best performances come from the supporting cast, from monica barbaro asjoan baez and elle fanning as dylan's girlfriend. # i walked and i crawled on six crooked highways#. i know you're not the most comfortable person with people. i'm not? no. - in fifth place, a real pain — twojewish cousins go on a tour of holocaust sites in poland. it's a road trip movie and character study. it stars the very talented kieran culkin and jesse eisenberg, who also directed the film with great skill. at numberfour, the room next doorfrom spanish film—maker pedro almodovar, his first film in

headlines any moment or two. first it is the weather with sarah. hello there. the festive forecast into next week looks fairly mild, so a slim chance that any of us will see a white christmas. but before we get there, the weather really changeable in the run—up to christmas. some rain around on friday, some very strong winds through the weekend could cause some disruption and then temperatures will be on the rise as we look towards christmas. to start friday, we will see a weather front starting in the west, pushing slowly east through the day and another frontal system waiting in the wings for the weekend. through saturday, that brings some milder air, some strong winds. by sunday, the air coming in from the north—west so a colder day on the cards. for the rest of thursday evening and overnight into friday, we keep the clearer skies for central, southern and eastern parts of england and wales but more cloud and rain across the north—west meaning milder weather here. six or seven degrees at 6:00 in the morning but we could see a touch of frost for central and south—eastern areas in particular.

a bit of sunshine for east anglia and the south—east lasting through the morning. we have that rain initially for scotland and northern ireland tracking into parts of northern england, wales, the south—west of england, one or two heavy bursts, followed by sunshine and showers moving on from the north—west. temperatures a couple of degrees warmer than thursday, between 8—11 degress but you have the breeze and showers so it will not feel particularly warm at all. into saturday, low pressure is sitting to the north of the uk, lots of isobars on the map, the winds wrapping around the low pressure bringing blustery showers, strongest winds for the western isles reaching 80mph. further south we have this cloud across central and southern england and wales and patchy outbreaks of rain. more sunshine further north but those blustery showers. and temperatures only eight or nine for parts of scotland, but 11—13 for the rest of the uk, so it looks mild but turns colder again into sunday because the winds are coming in from the north—west bringing a mix of sunshine and some heavy showers, some of the showers on sunday a bit wintry, could be some hail and sleet and even some snow of the highest ground of scotland. really gusty winds, 60mph or so in the west. so it is going to be a windy, cold, wintry—feeling day with top temperatures
