locals are completely stand because this is a city that does have its problems, there are shootings here, it is not a quiet city but nothing like this, nobody would have expected terrorism to come knocking in your lanes. there are frequently gang—related shootings —— to come knocking in new orleans. but terrorism has shocked everyone here, and we are seeing bewildered tourists coming out, wondering if the hotel is going to extend their stay, if the hotel is going to extend theirstay, it if the hotel is going to extend their stay, it is bewilderment. the other thing, this is such a big crime scene, five blocks here, and this is also a working even working neighbourhood, so even now we have people coming in with laundry, food deliveries, so it is a real balancing act

from the electric vehicle shortly after it stopped by the hotel's glass entrance early on new year's day. it had been carrying fuel canisters and large fireworks. when a 2024 tesla cybertruck pulled into the area of the trump international hotel, very quickly thereafter that the driver, who was the sole occupant of the truck, we saw what looked like maybe some sort of smoke, and then the truck exploded. the driver was killed and seven other people suffered minor injuries. the blast happened hours after the vehicle attack in new orleans, raising the question of a possible connection. we believe this is an isolated incident. we do not believe there are folks out there supporting this or helping this, and we don't believe there is any other danger to the community right now. elon musk, the boss of tesla, posted on x to clarify the cause of the inferno.
3:14 pm
the police said questions remained, given that the explosion involved a tesla vehicle outside a trump hotel. elon musk is a close ally of the president elect, who is a part owner of the hotel. president biden said the intelligence community was investigating the explosion, but he added that so far there was nothing to report on a possible connection with the attack in new orleans. peter bowes, bbc news. president biden will have a meeting with his homeland security team in the situation room in the next few hours to get an update on the situation in new orleans. we are expecting a police update in about 45 minutes, if it begins on time, and we will carry that live. around the world and across the uk.
