the fbi's has no connections between the new orleans attack and a tesla cybertruck exploding in las vegas. hello, i'm steve lai. officials in south korea are trying to arrest the president of his attempt to impose martial law. investigators that were left with no choice but to an arrest after yoon l to comply with multiple requests for questioning. the rest is proving difficult. this is the scene outside of the presidential residence. you can see lots of police personnel and vehicles as well lining the streets keeping a close eye on the situation and are poured

say 120 officers and 30 officials are attempting to make the arrest and are at the door of the residence trying to get in. the securities him making it difficult. officials already have gone past a military unit protecting the president and hundreds of supporters gathered outside his residence. our correspondent gave us this update from outside the residence. this started before we even woke up this morning. by the time we woke up there was a huge police presence in the capital and they cordoned off the roads leading to president yoon*s address. there were dozens of police buses, thousands of officers on the street. it was about eight o'clock that the first officers went up to the residence to make the arrest. we know at first they were blocked by military officials guarding his compound but they are now managed to get

past them and they are up against the doors of president yoon*s house trying to get in. we can see from the pictures but they are being blocked by the presidential security service who are refusing to open the doors and let the officers go in and make the arrest. we have been seeing live images through the morning but this is the first time i think in the last hour or so we heard the protesters voices and i can tell it is hard for you to hear what i am saying. if you can tell us more about what his supporters have been saying and how authorities are managing the situation with them? these protesters, some have been out here since the arrest warrant was issued. they have surrounded the residence from different directions and they say they are out here to also try and stop the president being arrested. they are riled up and they are angry and what they are said to us this morning is now been echoing some of these
3:03 am
conspiracy periods that president yoon alluded to when he tried to place the country under martial law. the first one is the elections held last year were wrecked, the second one was the country has been infiltrated by these pro—north korean forces. these ideas have really taken hold among his supporters the past month. even though most of the country here is still very upset about the decision to try and place the country under martial law, this core of his supporters have stayed loyal and they are even being railed up by the president himself who came out a couple days ago with this letter to them and thanked them or trying to protect him and the country, he said. they really feel they are here doing this duty, trying to protect south korea. and we can see how fired up they are, we can hear it as well but give us the context stop the majority of south koreans are in favour of impeaching and removing president yoon from office?
3:04 am
yes, they are. president yoon was impeached three weeks ago by the parliament, so he has been suspended from office. he has been stripped of all his powers and the majority of people supported that decision, the majority also wants him to be arrested but this is totally uncharted situation or south korea, they have never had to deal with this before because this as you say is the first time a sitting president has ever faced an arrest and that is why the situation is now so unclear. he is still being protected by his security team so that is why we see the stand—off this morning. people are questioning whether he should still be protected by his security team given that law enforcement officers are trying to exercise and carry out a legal arrest warrant. jean mckenzie speaking from soul. and when kim is a senior fellow at the centre for

really controversial issue and i mean, and i think as we saw how south korea democracy system is resilient, a persan time we really see the bottom of this democracy there is really a fragile democracy where there is political bipolar —— polarisation and no bipartisanship in domestic policy that it really is driving the situation and i think this is what we will eventually see coming up above the surface. eventually see coming up above the surface-— the surface. can you elaborate more on the — the surface. can you elaborate more on the health _ the surface. can you elaborate more on the health of- the surface. can you elaborate more on the health of south . more on the health of south korea's democracy? this is not the first time we have sent a south korean president for vowel of how they in the past have left office?— have left office? this is actually _ have left office? this is actually the _ have left office? this is actually the second - have left office? this is i actually the second south korean president being impeached and possibly probably

impeached. the court case is in process of hard to say what will happen to president yoon but i think this is an ongoing issue, this is the second time for south korea that i can serve the president has been impeached. this is a edger blow to conservatives parties and this is why there is a really strong difference, i guess, pushback from the conservative party to defend president yoon, unlike what we saw in five years ago when the majority of the conservative party decided to impeach the president. this isjust a different to impeach the president. this is just a different political landscape we are in and i think that makes this more uncertain thanit that makes this more uncertain than it was before.— than it was before. how do you see this playing _ than it was before. how do you see this playing out? _ than it was before. how do you see this playing out? there - than it was before. how do you see this playing out? there are many things happening here. that was unprecedented impact.

president yoon is not going to be arrested today, as we can see but the cio will likely try again or try to get a warrant again or try to get a warrant again and try to arrest him again. other alternatives are cio doesn't have a prosecutor power over president yoon. musing power to investigate but not to prosecute —— meaning they don't have the power to prosecute. they may transfer the case to prosecutors. another option is cio may turn to acting president who has influenced over the security service team. already the opposition party acting president to do something asking for cooperation regarding the security team. this is still in process, we fill out out of the nine constitutional report that the

3:11 am
there are basically two processes going on at the same time. what is happening today in seoul is more the criminal side of the story. the other one is what the constitutional court is doing now. president yoon's strategy is to delay as much as he could. the criminal side of the case, while more or less expediting constitutional court decision. expecting the constitutional court might render more partyjudgement, meaning which are demising the martial law measures. the main reason why president yoon is now trying to avoid the arrest is setting the standard to secure more time to postpone

officials say the body in the vehicle was burnt beyond recognition with a self—inflicted non— shot wounds to the head. our correspondent gave us this update. i think the big news out on thursday was the name of the person who is believed to have been inside of the cybertruck when it exploded on wednesday. as you say it is an active member of the military named matthew, of colorado springs, and one of the grizzly aspects of the story is the fact that authorities are being careful not to make a definitive identification because of the fact that whoever was in the cybertruck, the body was burnt beyond recognition. they are waiting for dna and forensic evidence to basically definitely confirm that it was in fact him. his identification was found in that vehicle, military id and a passport, credit cards also found in the vehicle

of sunshine to look out for — just like we had this thursday. there will continue to be a feed of showers, particularly down through the irish sea, and some showers of snow in scotland again. temperatures struggling to climb above freezing in some places — generally around 2—4 degrees. now, as we move through the evening, once again, those showers will continue to tuck in along those exposed north and west coasts, so icy stretches again at risk. another cold night to come, with temperatures falling below freezing. so a frosty start to saturday. but it's saturday, or the beginning of the weekend, that we really start to see the first signs of this change, and we could see some significant snow developing late on saturday, into the early hours of sunday morning. so a cold, crisp, frosty start, some sunshine around, a few scattered showers into the far northwest. during the afternoon, though, this veil of cloud is spilling across the south—west, the first signs of this weather front, and that is going to trap

that cold air, really making it feel quite bitter. just a couple of degrees above freezing for some of us through saturday afternoon. and so as this weather front through the evening on saturday pushes into that cold air, on the leading edge, we'll see snow. it should turn readily back to rain across central and southern england. but areas like the peak district, the pennines, northern ireland, southern uplands of scotland could see some significant snow, and with strong winds, blizzard—like drifting conditions from time to time as well. look at the difference with the temperatures on sunday — double digits down to the southeast, single figures remain in force across scotland. so it's these areas, particularly to higher ground, where there is the potential for some disruptive snow as we move through the weekend. keep watching the forecast.

the impeached president. around 20 officers marched to his presidential residence in seoul since 8am local time. the number was reinforced to 81 hour later. many of yoon's supporters have for days been congregating outside his residence, vowing to block his arrest and this morning is no different. he was suspended for his duties in mid—december after lawmakers voted to impeach him over a short lived declaration of martial law. the south korean court issued an arrest warrant against him which his lawyer have rejected as illegal and invalid. jay song, an honorary associate professor at the australia national university, gave us a sense of what lies ahead. it's almost a surreal situation now. i'm looking at these supporters gathering around his house and also the police, trying to go into his house and the military is actually blocking the access, and the corruption investigation office,
