there, retracing his boyhood steps, coming to the family farm where he was born and raised, he was born back in 1924, raised, he was born back in 192a, nothing to be 100 years of age. and we are expecting the rangers and groundskeepers there, those who take care of this site, which is now a national historic park, to honour the man who they essentially worked for and memorialise. you'll hear a bell rung 39 times. we will definitely bring you that moment when that happens. we have a couple of guests you. i want to bring them back in. but apologies if you have to interact, we want to make sure we don't miss that moment. amber ross, robert strong. amber, as we see this gathering here of park rangers, it is an

interesting site, thejimmy carter national historic site, what more could you tell us about the way that the resident, his former peanuts farm has become a site for people around the world and now the country come to learn more about the former president? it is amazing that the general public has an opportunity to see and experience a little taste of how former president carter grew up. of course there's not too far removed from fdr's little white house, which is of course were former president carter watches general election campaign in 1976. but back to that site there in archery, you noted the fact that children are often incredibly interested in the outhouses, the fact that it doesn't have electricity. but former president carter shared

what an incredible impact that living there had on his life, the influence of his parents, and his siblings obviously, but also offers itinerant farmers who lived nearby, folks like miss rachel, who helped shape former president carter's understanding of race and socialjustice, and the friends that he had there, and in the teachers within the community. apologies, professor, just to jump apologies, professor, just to jump in here, because we are seeing that motorcade now beginning to arrive here in the area of the carter farm where jimmy carter was, area of the carter farm where jimmy carterwas, and area of the carter farm where jimmy carter was, and you see quite the motorcade for a state funeral, many cars and motorcycles, and the main vehicle of course carrying the body of the former president. this is the moment we are

expecting that motorcade to come. and we are expecting that bell to be run by the employees, the park rangers at the jimmy employees, the park rangers at thejimmy carter national the jimmy carter national historic thejimmy carter national historic park. and again this is an area, not a big town, but plenty people out today in the morning hours, it is cold in georgia we have to say. people still braving the elements, braving the cold and coming out to line the streets, get a last glimpse perhaps of the former president, and again summoned the lived alongside. jimmy carter and rosalynn carter part the community in this area, plains, georgia. for many decades living alongside, are not in a very large hole. i think i remember in an interview, it might have been the grandson ofjimmy carter, saying that the house ends up living in much of that later use of their life was valid at something like $125,000,

$200,000, not a something like $125,000, $200,000, nota rich, lavish lifestyle that the characters lived, certainlyjimmy carter didn't grow up that way, and all the way through to his final days, that's exactly the way they lived, the same type of noodle and simple lifestyle. another glimpse of the boyhood farm ofjimmy carter, now a national park. we will be expecting that moment when the gathering there begins to honourjimmy carter, and we will make sure we will bring that moment when that bell rings 39 times, signifying he service 39th president of the us. amber, apologies for the

interruption, but not to make sure that we that solemn moment there, but as you are saying, this is one of those areas where people. by, where not only a place for people to learn, but this is the site where a young jimmy carter grew up, not a fancy area, but what kind of role his father, his mother, had in the community at the time, back whenjimmy carter would have been there? certainly his father was an important influence on former president carter's life, as was his mother, mrs lillian, miss lillian really give back to the community as an itinerant nurse. as you have noted, she went on to serve in the peace corps, and led a remarkable life. but his father was seen
3:52 pm
as a pillar in the community, and someone who was a prominent businessman, but gave back to others in the community. if there are mortgages, if the needed small loans for instance, orsomeone needed small loans for instance, or someone who would offer that to the community. certainly, as i noted and was saying earlier, carter's life was shaped dramatically, not only by his parents and his siblings, but by those individuals in the community. i started to reference missjulia coleman, a chartered teacher of former president carter, and remarkably, reminded her students on a number of occasions that a president might be in the midst. and certainly i think is incredibly important for teachers to share those sorts of messages with the students, that they can be anything no matter their humble
