hello i'm matthew amroliwala. 24 with 26 people still missing. there are fears, that high winds could soon return to los angeles — and again fan the flames of the wild fires there. three are still burning around the city. firefighters say, they now have a small window of opportunity to contain them, before the arrival of winds of up to 70 miles per hour. planes continue to dump fire retardant on hillsides across la — and firefighters are cutting vegetation, to slow the spread of the flames. at least 24 people have been killed in the fires so far. bring this up—to—date in terms of the latest assessment we are getting from officials stub jell—o from the information we've been given, the

5:11 pm
and see will give your picture and see will give your picture and that's it and that is all they need. we are not charging for that, there is no we are trained to help as many people as possible because in an event like this, resources are spread thin and that is where we come in and we again, our clients are engaged throughout the year we have local knowledge went out the properties look like and authorities and these resources come in from out—of—state and out of county and some local authorities and jurisdictions may not have the knowledge that we have at some of our clients. and on top of that, the water usage and such, we are not touching hydrants, those hydrants are for municipalities and authorities having jurisdiction and that is not for us to touch. that is something we do not engage with it all. there is a hard, very hard line in the sand on that
5:12 pm
especially with my company. interesting to see how you would be working through all of these unprecedented events and thank you so much forjoining us on the programme. so much focus on what the weather is doing in the wind speeds over the next 48 hours. meteorologist alex dasilva from accuweather, gave us his analysis. yeah. over the last 24 to 36 hours, the winds did come down a little bit from their peaks. and that has allowed the firefighters to get some containment on some of these blazes. you look at the hurst fire, 89% containment, the eaton fire, up to 33% containment and the biggest fire of them all, the palisades fires up to 14% containment. so a little bit of good news there that the firefighters have gotten a little bit of these fires under control. but unfortunately, yes, over the next 24 to 36 hours, these winds are going to be picking up considerably coming out of the north—east, right over those same areas that are dealing with the fires right now. we could see gusts 60 to 100km/h across a pretty widespread area across the los angeles area, even 100 to 130km/h in some
5:13 pm
of this pink area here, just north of the city. and again, this is the area where the fires are, so we could see some rapid spread of these fires. i'm concerned about the embers that could be lifted into the air and travel, perhaps, you know, several kilometres away from the parent fire and that has the ability to start new fires. although there are no flames though we've become so familiar with over the past week, there's so worried about the embers in the winds whipping up like alex said over the next couple of days and those live pictures, if there any more developers from los angeles they will return to that major story. it is a revolution that is coming — whether we like it or not. artificial intelligence may have the potential to transform the world — and the uk intends to be
5:14 pm
at the forefront of that transformation. the prime minister — sir keir starmer — has been setting out his government's intentions — what's called the ai 0pportunities action plan. leading tech firms are said to be investing fourteen—billion pounds — or seventeen? billion dollars — in various projects. they include plans for so—called *growth zones* — where development will be focussed. the aim is for a twenty—fold increase in britain*s computing power. the hope is improved ai could lead to multiple benefits — everything from improving medical treatment to speeding up the filling of pot holes. with me is our artificial intelligence correspondent marc this is the global rates of our lives, some companies are going to make ai breakthroughs and export them. 0thers to make ai breakthroughs and export them. others will end up buying those breakthroughs at importing. the question is, which of those will britain be?

5:18 pm
companies take on more people in suppressing growth in that way too. a lot of criticism about how the government has been handling the economy and expectations going forward and they are looking for ways to grow it so you have got this, it was a long planned speech and it was not rolled out today in response to the recent pressures but certainly it will be something the government wants to focus on in the way of showing that there is a potential for raising growth showing that there is a potentialfor raising growth in the economy in the future. find the economy in the future. and richey sendak _ the economy in the future. and richey sendak held that conference not that long ago and it was a different focus today from the current prime minister —— rishi sunak, less about the risk and more about the opportunities. find about the risk and more about the opportunities.— the opportunities. and if you think back, _ the opportunities. and if you think back, rishi _ the opportunities. and if you think back, rishi sunak - the opportunities. and if you think back, rishi sunak is i the opportunities. and if you think back, rishi sunak is a l think back, rishi sunak is a very keen advocate for al and he held that summit, it was an ai safety summit and there was

a lot of talk about the guard rails which was the phrase the cat being used. would guard rails we put the development of ai and the tone from keir starmer was decidedly different and they would keep people safe but he wanted the uk to be the best state partner for developing ai and he wanted this to be the place where people came to do that. it was a difference shift in tone and also political problems that come with this in a think about the union and look, it*s fine we have to make sure that this doesn*t come at the cost of jobs and concerns about how data is going to be used. around the world and across the uk. this is bbc news.

highland scotland — that runs the risk of some rapid snow melt and maybe some localised flooding. by contrast, —1. we are was still sitting in the cold air across the far south—east. but the wind direction has changed. it*s driving this milder air across the northern half of the country. it is also bringing some wet weather, as well. so these weather fronts are sinking their way steadily south and east, introducing some rain. further south we are still under the influence of high pressure. the rain has seen some heavier bursts across the highlands. it*s moving its way down towards the scottish borders and out of northern ireland. so for the remainder of the afternoon we will see some wet weather sinking its way slowly south and east. quite cloudy skies elsewhere. best of any brightness across east anglia and south—east
5:27 pm
england where we had that colder start, but temperatures starting to pick up. not quite as cold here, five to seven degrees, but we keep those double figures in the far north and west. 0ur weather front sinks its way steadily south, weakens all the time to a nuisance band of drizzly rain across northern england and north wales overnight. further south, if we get some clearer skies, a touch of patchy frost, maybe some patchy fog, as well. low single figures here. we keep the mild air behind that weather front. the front will continue to push its way south and produce quite a lot of cloud around on tuesday. not that much in the way of rain. some brief glimpses of brightness perhaps towards the north and east of scotland and england. temperatures generally between eight and 11 degrees. so a milder feel to things. as we move through the middle part of the week, the high pressure stays influencing the story for most of us. weather fronts toppling across the high might introduce some fresher winds and thicker cloud here from time to time, but with lighter winds further south, fog and some of it dense and stubborn in places, could lingerfor quite some time across central and south—east england. so something to look
5:28 pm
out for on wednesday. again, temperatures pretty similar — between eight and 11 degrees. so as we go through the rest of the week the milder theme is set to continue, mostly dry, but watch out for the fog.
