i the ithe hostages the names of the hostages released today, and by this morning, that still hadn't and the minister prime minister's office was very clear that cease—fire will not begin if the terms of the deal were not adhered to, one of the terms of the deal was the release of those names and identities. several hours later that came through, 11:15am local time and when that cease—fire came into effect, and we've seen people gathering here in the square through the day really responding emotionally and strongly as well to moments when pictures of those three women are shown on the screen, particularly as well when pictures were coming from gaza, pictures were coming from gaza, pictures that were being rebroadcast by israeli television channels, you can really see people here on tenterhooks as they got glimpses of those being helped into the red cross vehicles that took them through gaza before they were headed over to israeli forces to be taken to

re*im military base and from there they are going to hospital to be treated. of course, the crucial reunion with their families as well. that has been the focus of attention here in israel and in gaza in the last few hours as well. since the israeli air strikes stopped, when that cease—fire came into effect at 11:15am, people have been on the move. people who, in many cases, were displaced after the 7th of october, but have moved repeated times up and down the street, particularly people in the north. that is an area which has remained uninhabitable, not safe, for 470 uninhabitable, not safe, for a70 days, since the start of this conflict. remember, there was a time when many of those people had been pushed right down to the bottom of the strip to try and get some respite and safety from the air strikes. many of those people now planning to return home, in some cases in cars, in some cases with donkeys pulling

carts with their possessions, and in some cases people just have what they can carry. after 15 months of war, they have barely anything left. and in some cases, it'sjust barely anything left. and in some cases, it's just people with bags. on their backs or in their hands. preparing that long journey but foot to return to the homes that they left, to see if they are even still standing out. to see what is left of the communities and the lives that they left behind when this war started. a70 days ago. and this is what people in rafah had to say a little earlier today. translation: it is an indescribable feeling for rafah and the entire nation. at first, in rafah, we see the destruction, destruction we have not seen before. we were talking about a genocide, but it is more than genocide. may god be with our people and grant them patience and have mercy on our martyrs and heal our wounded. we hope that this truce continues and this is the end of the bloodshed, the torrent of blood, which our people paid a heavy price for.

our people gave a lot. that movement has really started in earnest in the last few hours, people even moving this evening in the dark. another key element of this is the movement of additional aid into gaza, the aid trucks which have been waiting, lined up in egypt to come across the border. one of the tenants of the ceasefire agreement was that 600 trucks per day of aid should be passing into gaza each day. that will help the humanitarian situation but aid agencies, ngos, charities, have been very clear that the scale of need after 15 months of war is so great that it will take time to get enough basic things like food, water, sanitation products, medical products, all sorts of things are needed in

gaza at the moment. while that will step up, it will take time to get everything in that is needed. bbc arabic*s reporter sent us this report from the egypt side of the rafa crossing. this is rough crossing from the egyptian side and it is the first day of the ceasefire from hamas and israel. the first aid trucks have been seen entering gaza this morning. since the ceasefire came into effect. the united nations food agency says its aid trucks have entered into gaza via two crossings. they came in the north and kerem shalom in the south. other aid trucks have been seen entering the strip via the rafah crossing. the first aid trucks carried life—saving wheat, flour, and ready to eat food parcels for people in the desperate need.
6:05 pm
the world food programme says gaza relies heavily on aid forfood. and in recent weeks just a0 trucks of aid were getting in on average, while pre—conflict around 500 trucks entered the gaza daily. the ceasefire deal requires 608 trucks to enter each day. that reporter from bbc arabic, describing the scene on the egypt side of the rafa crossing a few hours ago. we have been getting various bits of pictures through the day. these particular pictures that you are seeing now is the moment that the three israeli hostages were handed over to the idf, the israel defence forces. we saw pictures from earlier where they were handed over to the red cross in gaza. we saw people crowded around the cars
6:06 pm
and these pictures that you are seeing show the actual handover to the israelis, a key part of that process where they are actually handed over to a special team that is put together to receive them, people who are able to give them physical medical support if it is needed. imagine where and how they have been held for the last 15 months or so. if they had been held in tunnels, it could be the first day like they had seen in a70 days. the first time they have seen people, crowds, potentially a really overwhelming moment. we arejust really overwhelming moment. we are just looking at these live pictures of the helicopters in pace in southern israel taking off —— helicopters in re*im. with the women on board. the final stage of that handover journey from hamas captivity to the red cross, to the israeli authorities. now they will be taken to the sheba medical

center, a shortjourney by air. they do this by helicopter to make that journey as they do this by helicopter to make thatjourney as short they do this by helicopter to make that journey as short and simple as possible, deliberately doing that, taking them to a proper hospital with facilities where they can get the medical and psychological care that they need. my colleague, jonah fisher, is at sheba hospital. i know various facilities have been put in place to deal with the huge amount of international interest that is happening. everybody wants to see the end stage of this particularjourney see the end stage of this particular journey for these three women. particularjourney for these three women.— three women. that's right, there is considerable - three women. that's right, | there is considerable media interest in this. a whole line ofjournalists interest in this. a whole line of journalists stretching interest in this. a whole line ofjournalists stretching out to my right who are reporting live on this. we are expecting that when those helicopters do finally take off from re*im to make the relatively short journey to here on the outskirts of tel aviv, this is sheba medical center, it is one of the biggest and best hospitals in the middle east. it could cope with pretty much
6:08 pm
whatever medical needs that these three women may well have, when they are brought in. there are a few images emerging of them with bandages. emily damari, the british is ready hostage, there are pictures emerging of her with bandages on her had —— british is really hostage. she has already received some medical treatment. —— british israeli hostage. she was injured in the attacks on kfar aza when she was injured. quite likely shot in her hand. they will be brought here, the three women. doron steinbrecher as well as romi gonen. they will be brought here and they will have their medical condition assessed further by the many experts in this centre. one would think probably they would

spend the night here. just as you are speaking, i am looking at some first photos that have been released by the israeli government press office with the moments of the reunion. where the women are having a reunion with their mothers. we will show these pictures in a moment, we will get them processed and put them on the screen so you can see them. i notice a tissue being held, lots of embracing, and you can see as well, the released hostages, the released women, they look to be in good condition. obviously, there is always a lot going on beyond the surface. you know, we can see... i'mjust looking. we will get these pictures processed and up on the screen. so so you can see them. this is a key moment. as we
6:10 pm
were saying earlier on, this is a key moment on thatjourney for the freed hostages and the family as well. the moment where it feels like it has finally come to an end is that moment of reunion. yeah, and it will have been 15 months in which they have hung onto every little scrap of information, has emerged. some of these families have had a small little bits of videos, some of them had, for example, mention of their relative in other videos. 0f of course, every little twist and turn of the negotiating process will have been closely followed as well. last year in the summer, there were hopes that there might potentially be some sort of deal, a deal which isn't very different from the agreement which has come into force today. even in the last 2a hours or so, one can hardly imagine how these mothers must
6:11 pm
have felt when they heard this morning that hamas hadn't handed over the names of the three people who they were going to release today. there had been widespread speculation that there will be three women. obviously, their hopes would have been high. and then they would have been, potentially, extremely concerned again when we had that delayed to the start of the ceasefire this morning while israel complained it had not been given the names. one would imagine incredible and extremely emotional scenes near the border with gaza today when those three mothers were reunited with their daughters after a 15 month separation. jonah fisher, thank you, our
