heading to the wsl. hello there, and welcome along to the programme, and another exciting, enthralling and exhilarating night to bring you in the champions league on wednesday, and an incredible turn of events in paris as psg came from two goals down to beat manchester city — a result that leaves the premier league champions in the elimination spots ahead of the final round of group phase games. city were two goals up in quick succession in the second half, thanks to jack grealish and erling haaland. but psg struck back even faster. ousmane dembele and bradley barcola had them level before joao neves put the french side ahead and the 4—2 victory was sealed thanks to a stoppage—time goal from goncalo ramos. the result hauling psg into the play—off spots with city needing to win next week in order to save their campaign. arsenal all but secured their place in the automatic spots for the last 16 of the champions league,

with a comfortable 3—0 win over croatian side dinamo zagreb at the emirates stadium. martin odegaard with their third. and holders real madrid hammered red bull salzburg 5—1 to put their early season poor form in the competition behind them, kylian mbappe on the scoresheet for them with two goals each from rodrygo and vinciuer. in the other results, a huge win for feyenoord, beating bayern munich 3—0. celtic are into the play—offs after their win. and victories too for both milan clubs, both sides in the top eight going into the final round of matches. undoubtedly, though, the game of the evening at the parc des princes. manchester city now then with a job on their hands to stay in the competition. we had the last chance at home and we will do everything there. he is not because we do not deserve it, so tough games with the game against inter, especially in feyenoord, to put it in that position, but notjust about that, we can qualify but we have to after that, you have to recover players and do it

better it's as simple as that. they will have to accept it and sport is like that. borussia dortmund have parted ways with head coach nuri sahin afterjust seven months in charge following tuesday's 2—1 defeat to bologna in the champions league. the former dortmund midfielder was appointed injune last year, butjust one win in nine matches, including four—straight defeats since the team returned to action after the bundesliga winter break pushed the club to act. a winning start for ole gunnar solskjaer at besiktas — the former manchester united manager was appointed at weekend, and saw his side beat athletic bilbao in the europa league. it's been four years since solskjaer was sacked by united, but milo rashica's two goals helped his side to a 4—1 win, inflicting bilbao*s first europa league defeat of the campaign. besiktas are now 18th in the standings before thursday's matches and the final round of league stage fixtures next week. bilbao stay second. manchester united take on rangers in an all—british clash

in the rest of the europa league ties on thursday. their head coach ruben amorim has defended his players in the wake of his comments after their 3—1 loss to brighton in which he suggested they were maybe the worst manchester united side in history. amorim insists the blame is firmly on him as coach. the message that you guys show was that i was putting on the players. what i was saying is you have to look really hard to find a team of manchester united in ten games that lose seven games. and that is on me because it is the same players doing worse with a new coach. that is my only concern in the moment, but i'm not taking anything from the players. what i am saying is that we have to improve. now, the usa defender naomi girma has agreed terms tojoin chelsea on a long—term deal for a world record transfer. she won olympic gold in paris with the usa last year and was nominated for the bbc women's footballer of the year award. she spoke to us about
4:50 am
her love of defending. there is so much strategy that i love that goes into it, and i think there is, like, technique, there's reading the play, but also, you are always doing things for the team and my favourite part about playing soccer, football, is being on a team and that aspect of it, and you are working with your backline, you're trying to organise line in front of you and there is that camaraderie in the back and grind it out and that is always such a special feeling and i always feel like i have a good relationship with the goalkeepers i play with, the centre—backs i play with and it's such a collaborative effort to be successful, a lot less individual i think it can be in the front at times, and i love that, i love how it all comes together, and without that piece, it is really hard to win. we play a big part, but not as publicly. exciting times ahead

for her no doubt. for more on the naomi girma move, the women's football podcaster, journalist and broadcaster meg linehan spoke to us from vermont about the significance of the record transfer, and what a coup it is for chelsea. it was only really a matter of time till we hit that million—dollar mark in terms of women's football transfer, but the fact that it's naomi and other things, we can approach and the fact you have a us player going to europe where the money is just going to be bigger right now, i think. i remember one of the first camps that naomi was at, megan could not stop talking about her, and it's not just her vision, her consistency, the way she can read the field, but everything that she brings off the field as well, she is this kind of very quiet leader type,
4:52 am
she is very much in the vein of carlow, becky, these big legends of the us women's national team centre—backs, so notjust her defending which is very good and having seen it in person for years now, i think it will blow people away, but now she has also brought scoring into her game. it's really — you are getting everything with naomi girma. i think for her, it is a matter of getting significant minutes. obviously, she is getting that with the us women's national team, played in the world cup in 2023, the olympics in 2024, but making sure she is in big games, i think champions league will help on that front, the training environment, not a knock, but san diego is kind of going through this bigger a moment and turning over and having to rebuild the team, and so for naomi girma, i think she has to be in the most elite environment she can be between now and 2027. england suffered a crushing defeat against world champions india in the first t20 in kolkata. the new era of white—ball

cricket under brendon mccullum then starts with a loss. jofra archer impressed with 2/21 in india's chase, but the hosts still romped to a seven—wicket victory with 43 balls to spare, england's heaviest t20 defeat in terms of deliveries remaining. the second t20 in the five—match series is on saturday in chennai. the formula i now. lewis hamilton has had his first experience of a ferrari formula i car at the team's fiorano test track. the ao—year—old seven—time champion tested a 2023 car on wednesday as part of his acclimatisation work with his new team. his test follows two days of work at the ferrari factory in maranello of which the fiorano track is a part. rally driverjosh mcerlean makes his step up to the big time on thursday. the 25—year—old from northern ireland will make his debut in the top tier of the world rally championship, and the first of the 14 rounds across four continents is the monte carlo rally. andy gray reports. reaching the world rally
4:54 am
championship has been a dream forjosh mcerlean since he first stepped into a rally car at the age of ii. now, that will become a reality as he drives for m—sport ford for the full wrc season, which starts with the iconic monte carlo rally. it was always a dream, a very big dream, at that from a young age, all young drivers dream of this moment. but, yeah, it's become reality now. i think the thursday night of monte carlo will become very real when we are heading up to the mountains and into the snow. it's definitely going to be a surreal moment, but one we have to focus on, because it is a job in hand, and we have to be professional about it. the 25—year—old has been testing his ford puma rallyi as he builds up his preparations to compete in the pinnacle of the sport. so, last year, we were in a rally2 car, it's the level below rallyi. in terms of sport,
4:55 am
or motorsport, it's basically formula i of world rally, and it's the top level, you can't get any further up. so, yeah, it's the top level, it's top professionalism and, yeah, you're racing the best in the world. the competition will be stiff. of the nine other wrc drivers to start the season, four are world champions and five are rally winners. with that in mind, mcerlean is happy to be the underdog. you can use that to your advantage. obviously, you are going into some rough technical rallies where attrition comes into it a lot. yeah, i'm not saying we're just going to go to drive round either, we want to perform, we have to perform. we are at that level now and, yeah, i want to do the best i can for everyone involved. his childhood dream will come true this year and now mcerlean will want to spring a surprise against some of the sport's biggest names. andy gray, bbc news. you can get all the latest sports news from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website. that includes roundups from the champions league matches. that's bbc.com/sport. from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. we will see you again next time.

hello. the weather is certainly turning a lot livelier over the next couple of days. thursday bringing some wind and rain, but for friday, storm eowyn, and so this met office amber warning with the risk of 90mph wind gusts in some parts of the uk. now, that storm is developing right now in the atlantic. this is the satellite picture from a little earlier on, and you can see this stripe of cloud and just the beginnings of a hook appearing in that cloud as that area of low pressure begins to form. and it is going to strengthen, it is going to deepen rapidly as it approaches the uk, arriving and moving across the north of the uk during the day on friday. more on that in a moment. we start with
4:57 am
thursday's forecast, which brings this band of rain eastwards, some snow developing over high ground in the north of scotland as that wet weather arrives. some very windy weather around the coasts of wales, the south and the southwest of england — gusts of 50 or 60mph here. some sunny skies following from the southwest as the day wears on. temperatures around 5 to 9 degrees in most places. now, during thursday night, that first band of rain clears, but then here comes storm eowyn — this swirl of wet and windy weather, we're going to see some really very, very strong winds indeed across the republic of ireland. but those winds at that core of really strong winds is likely to migrate northwards and eastwards. and so we have our met office amber warning. these are the areas covered by that amber warning — inland spots seeing gusts of 60 to 70mph, some coasts and hills 80 to 90mph. and in fact, it is possible that some very exposed spots
4:58 am
could see winds even stronger than that, pretty unusual for the uk. and then we also have widespread gales even away from that amber warning area. yellow warnings covering other parts of the uk. also, some outbreaks of rain, some snow for a time up towards the north. and those temperatures, well, i think, they'll be the least of our worries, but actually a little bit milder down towards the south. now, as we head through friday night, our area of low pressure, our storm gradually pulls northwards. still very, very windy, you'll notice in the north of scotland for a time on saturday, further gales to come here. another weather system pushing in from the west bringing rain, some snow for some of us. and then actually through sunday and into next week, it looks like we could see more wet and windy weather.
