sentencing here to resume after a lunch break very shortly. we are expecting at 2pm, we have reported inside the building and we also have access to a video link which shall uk correspondent has been watching as proceedings got under way. there was a delay and they started later than expected. axel rudakubana has not made it easy for the families who are here today. easy for the families who are here today-— easy for the families who are here toda . .,, ~ , , here today. nope. an immensely difficult day _ here today. nope. an immensely difficult day for _ here today. nope. an immensely difficult day for the _ here today. nope. an immensely difficult day for the parents - difficult day for the parents and for everyone else, the injured children, parents of the injured children, the injured adults. a day when they were supposed to see the person who carried out this appalling crime in the dock and facing justice but we barely got under way this morning when axel rudakubana started shouting rudaku ba na started shouting from rudakubana started shouting from the dock that he was feeling ill and that he wanted to see a paramedic. they tried to see a paramedic. they tried to carry on but eventually the judge ordered that he should be

taken out and he was held in a room in the court and if he wants to watch it he can on the video link. we then add the lawyer outlining what happened that day and in brief a group of 26 girls who had come to attend a taylor swift dance event which involved dancing and making friendship bracelets. it was when talus —— when taylor swift was on tour in the uk. in the middle of them enjoying that event axel rudakubana booked a cab from his homejust outside southport, his home just outside southport, dressed in his homejust outside southport, dressed in a hoodie on a summers day in the medical mask on, he arrives at the dance studio and was dropped off, it refuses to pay the taxi driver and walks into the building and within 30 seconds they were terrible screams, some of which we heard from the video recordings of that day could be heard coming from the dance studio. girls were seen
2:06 pm
running out of the dance studio in a panic. some of them clearly injured. you see one of the girls collapsing on the pavement across the road. and axel rudakubana had stabbed huge numbers of times the three girls who died and also one of the girls who amazingly survived, we saw cctv footage of one of the girls who survived being pulled back into the building by axel rudakubana but she did survive. 0ver the building by axel rudakubana but she did survive. over 32 stab wounds, 23 to the back. what the judge heard was that the police arrived soon pretty afterwards, rushed into the building, we saw the footage of them running into the building and arresting axel rudakubana as he stood over bb king who he had stabbed so viciously and
2:07 pm
then he was arrested and taken away. we had some snippets of what was said at the police station when he arrived at the police station and he said he was glad that the girls were dead, that it was a good thing and at times some of this evidence was unbearable for the families in court and several times people had to leave. 50 times people had to leave. so this is the sentencing. just take us through, we've heard some of it, what do we expect now? how will thejudge some of it, what do we expect now? how will the judge come to a decision? we now? how will the 'udge come to a decisionah a decision? we still think the 'udue a decision? we still think the judge will _ a decision? we still think the judge will pass _ a decision? we still think the judge will pass sentence - a decision? we still think the judge will pass sentence this| judge will pass sentence this afternoon despite the delays. the prosecution still have a bit more of a case to outline and there will be a discussion on the appropriate sentence. we know that because he was under 18 when he committed the crime that he can't be given a whole life order as part of the life sentence. in other words he
2:08 pm
can't be told he will never be released from prison. thejudge will have to sentence him to life and then decide what the appropriate minimum amount spent in prison will be. so it could be several decades but unfortunately the parents of the deceased will hear today about the possibility of being released on licence in some decades. the defence will have an opportunity to say what they think about whether the sentencing should have reductions because of his guilty pleas and is mental health issues. we are not sure they will do that. the judge may feel it's appropriate. and then thejudge will may feel it's appropriate. and then the judge will pass sentence on him. we have got used to this, it's an innovation way when the moment comes when thejudge innovation way when the moment comes when the judge passes sentence they sum up what an offender has done and what the appropriate sentence should be, that will happen on camera and
