hello and welcome. storm eowyn — has brought potentially *life threatening' winds to ireland and the uk — with the loss of power and services and the closure of schools, rail, ferries, roads and transport hubs. this map shows how the storm has developed — packing severe winds. in galway on the west coast of ireland, a record—breaking gust of 114 miles an hour has been recorded. a red warning remains in place for parts of scotland — and an amber weather warning is in place for the rest of scotland, northern england and north wales. people have been urged to stay at home — and across the island of ireland, nearlyi million people have lost power. hundreds of flights across the uk and ireland have also been cancelled. here's sara girvin who's in donaghadee in northern ireland.
4:02 pm
we have been here on the coast of county tyrone, and early it was difficult to stand on two the winds were so strong, but we feel it is now calming. in excess of 100 mph, the winds. and in the republic of ireland, a possible record of 140 mph was recorded, but the newest issue has been power supplies. about two and 40,000 people are without electricity in northern ireland —— 240,000 people. in the republic of ireland the figure is more than 700000 and we are told that tens of
4:03 pm
thousands more in the republic of ireland are having problems with water supply. that shows the effect that storm eowyn has had. as you can imagine, there is a lot of work going on here to repair power lines and people are being asked not to touch power damaged ones, as they come across them, as the work goes on, and we have also seen a lot of pictures and reports of closed roads, fallen trees, a lot of damage to properties and public buildings as well. this on a day where there has been major disruption with every school in northern ireland closed. no public transport and no buses and trains and warnings that the disruption may continue into tomorrow. we have had a lot of messaging asking people to stay indoors and not to travel and that has been heeded but since the red warning lifted in northern ireland at two
4:04 pm
o'clock, we have seen a lot more people venturing out for the first time, maybe walking a dog or going about their daily business because it has now been taken over by an amber weather warning which will last until nine o'clock this evening. so certainly more disruption to come, more poor weather but there is the hope that the worst of storm eowyn has passed. that the worst of storm eowyn has passed-— that the worst of storm eowyn has passed. awful delay on the line so i will— has passed. awful delay on the line so i will not _ has passed. awful delay on the line so i will not risk— has passed. awful delay on the line so i will not risk asking - line so i will not risk asking you another question but thanks for bringing us up to speed. right across the coastal regions, this is cornwall, and you can see the size of the waves. that is what it is like in so many different areas of the coastline. this is the coast in wales, and that is pretty wild. look at the size

of those waves. that gives you an impression of where we currently are with the storm. now to david wallace lockhart in glasgow. u nfortu nately unfortunately the line has glitched. we will try to get that back. 0ur correspondent ben schofield has this latest from manchester. welcome to a rather sunny but also very blustery west yorkshire. we're over the m62 here, not farfrom huddersfield. somewhere called ainley top, which is a lovely beauty spot. it's just over there to my left. as you can see, the traffic is flowing rather well in this part of the world. the m62 heads off towards manchester in that direction. it becomes the highest motorway in england as it travels west. now there are parts of the major road network that are closed today.
4:06 pm
the humber bridge and the severn crossing as well have been closed to high sided vehicles, at least, if not more traffic as well. the a66 also, which links scotch corner on the a1 with carlisle and penrith over on the m6 is closed to all traffic today, notjust high sided vehicles. that was closed from midnight overnight and you can see why — there are at least four reports of overturned lorries on the roads in the north of england today, one of which was on the a19 in county durham. there was another on the m6 near carlisle and two that i've seen reported by highways england, one by darlington, another near durham. so there is realjeopardy out there on the roads. drivers here seem to be taking it as safely as possible. the advice from highways england is to slow down in case of debris, to avoid exposed stretches of road, and, of course, to keep both hands on the wheel in case of gusts
4:07 pm
like the one we're experiencing now. that was ben schofield showing some of the pictures there. we have pictures from edinburgh of the plane coming into land. these pictures tell you everything you need to know about the wind speed. who would like to be a pilot in those conditions? that is really tough. almost the last few metres before the wheels touched the runway, it was going sideways. well done to that pilot. we were trying to go to david in glasgow. the conditions defeating us at the moment and we have not been able to re—establish the line. i spoke to him about an hour ago and he gave us the latest.

yes, in south lanarkshire, not a million miles from here, we have had winds of over 100 mph recorded, and we are actually shielded by quite a big building where we are standing, but a few people, one got knocked over by the wind, and a hat was blown off and it went straight into the river clyde, which is more like the sea today. this particular bridge over the clyde, it has plastic sheets as part of the roofing and we have watched as some of them have actually been ripped off, so that gives you a sense of the damage and the great strength of wind we are seeing. there has been disruption and there are no trains today across scotland and we are not actually going to have trains until at least midday tomorrow,
4:09 pm
even though the red warning is due to end at five o'clock. massive disruption to flights from airports and to the ferry services in scotland. it feels as though people have really paid attention to the stay—at—home message that has come from the authorities. people getting one of those emergency alerts on their phone, many people getting that yesterday evening, telling them only to travel if it was absolutely necessary. there has been widespread disruption with trees falling onto roads and power cuts in parts of scotland as well. it is stressing why this is one of those red warnings that comes with the risk to life warning that comes with it because these are pretty strong winds. glasgow is used to the wind but not on a level like this. that is the latest from scotland. these are pitches wales as the waves continue to lash the coastline. the winds

going to do a good job. i don't know if we have any seen —— i don't know if we have ever seen a disaster like that there? has anything bigger happens like that in the whole country ever? i don't want to say what it looks like, but it looks like something hit it and we won't talk about that but it is a bad situation. i'm going to meet with some government officials but more importantly, and millions of gallons of water are waiting to be poured down through the pipes that are already built, they have been up already built, they have been up 40 years in about 20 years ago they turned off the water, and it is the water that comes from the pacific northwest, some of it comes out of canada, and it probably has flowed there for a million years. they turned it off and routed out to

the pacific. in the meantime you don't have water in the hydrants and the sprinklers and it is the craziest thing i've ever seen. it is the craziest thing i've everseen. everyone it is the craziest thing i've ever seen. everyone is trying to figure out, why are they not turning it back? ifind it hard to believe. without doing that, you are going to continue to have problems.— have problems. what you prepared _ have problems. what you prepared to _ have problems. what you prepared to do _ have problems. what you prepared to do if - have problems. what you prepared to do if opec . have problems. what you prepared to do if opec do j have problems. what you - prepared to do if opec do not prepared to do if 0pec do not respond _ prepared to do if 0pec do not respond to— prepared to do if 0pec do not respond to your— prepared to do if 0pec do not respond to your call? - prepared to do if 0pec do not respond to your call? we - prepared to do if opec do not respond to your call? we want them to cut — respond to your call? we want them to cut the _ respond to your call? we want them to cut the price - respond to your call? we want them to cut the price of- respond to your call? we want them to cut the price of oil- them to cut the price of oil and that will automatically stop the tragedy taking place in ukraine. it is a butchering tragedy for both sides, by the way. tremendous number of russian soldiers are dead and a tremendous number of ukrainian soldiers and a lot of people are dead from the bombing of the cities, but right now it is a bullets hitting men, mostly men, most cases, and over a

million men have been killed. they are losing thousands of people per week. it is crazy. it is a crazy war and it never would have happened if i was president. it is crazy that it happened but we want to stop it. one way to stop it quickly is for 0pec to stop making so much money and to drop the price of oil. they have it nice and high and if you have it high, that war is not going to enter so easily, so 0pec i've got to drop the price of oil and that war will stop right away. and that war will stop right awa . ~ ., and that war will stop right awa , ~ ., ., , ., and that war will stop right awa. . . , away. what about the century city policy _ away. what about the century city policy in _ away. what about the century city policy in los _ away. what about the century city policy in los angeles? - away. what about the century city policy in los angeles? i i city policy in los angeles? want to see voter id so city policy in los angeles?” want to see voter id so the people have a chance to vote and i want to see the water released and come down into los angeles and throughout the state, they are the things, and after that i will be the greatest president that california has ever seen. i want the water to come down to

los angeles and also go out to the farmland that is barren and dry. they have land that is the equivalent of the land in iowa which is about as good as anywhere on earth, but the problem is it is artificial because they artificially stop the water from going because they artificially stop the waterfrom going onto because they artificially stop the water from going onto the land, so i want to things, voter id for the people of california, they all wanted. right now you don't have it. people want to have voter identification and proof of citizenship, and ideally one day voting but i want that as the start, and i want the water to be released and they are going to get a lot of help from the us. thank you very much. we will see you at the site.— will see you at the site. what about the _ will see you at the site. what about the deportation - will see you at the site. what | about the deportation flights? that is— about the deportation flights? that is going _ about the deportation flights? that is going very— about the deportation flights? that is going very well- about the deportation flights? that is going very well and - about the deportation flights? that is going very well and wej that is going very well and we are getting the bad criminals outcome of these are murderers
