this is bbc news, the headlines. israel has released 200 palestinian prisoners in return for four female soldiers held by hamas, in the second exchange of the gaza ceasefire deal. four israeli women soldiers were freed in gaza city in a ceremony tightly controlled by hamas — surrounded by dozens of armed hamas fighters. once back in israel, the women were reunited with their loved ones. the soldiers were captured in the october seventh attack 15 months ago, they were seized from an army base on the border with gaza. israel has accused hamas of breaching the terms of the ceasefire because female civilian hostage arbel yehud was not included in saturday's release — and has delayed the planned return of displaced palestinians to northern gaza.

liverpool are leading the league on points and goals this season and slot doesn't mind where they come from. vehicles mind where they come from. from all positions so from vehicles from all positions so from the ninth, iith vehicles from all positions so from the ninth, 11th and seventh position and it is very pleasing to see because you start with that goal as well because vehicles from the midfield as well. these guys can score goals we have to make sure the team we bring them as much as we can in positions for them to score a goal in the will provide us with goals and assists. it was looking decidedly dicey for arsenal all afternoon — especially when a highly controversial myles lewis skelley red card in the first half gave them a headache at wolves. however, ricardo califiori's left footed strike(wipe a headache at wolves. however, ricardo califiori's left footed strike earned mikel arteta's side three points. joao gomes also saw red on 70 minutes for two yellow and substitute califiori's effort means it's now 13 unbeaten in the league
7:34 pm
for arsenal — who ensured they didn't lost any ground in the title race. we are not going to give up, thatis we are not going to give up, that is for sure, we will face any challenge and it is attrition we have done today, whether we win or not, i think that will be different question, but how we are going to try, 100% guarantee that we are going to be there. nottingham forest have slipped three points behind arsenal now in third after being thrashed 5—0 at in form bournemouth. dango outtarra scored a second half hattrick at the vitality stadium to extend the cherries unbeaten run to 11 games. bournemouth were sixth for a couple of hours but manchester city have jumped ahead of them and into fourth, coming from behind to beat chelsea in the late kick off. it was a debut to forget for city defender abdukodir khusanov, his mistake allowing noni madueke to give chelsea the lead afterjust three minutes, but pep guardiola's side equalised four minutes before the break, josko gvardiol reacting first to a rebound to tap
7:35 pm
into an empty net, before erling haaland took advantage of robert sanchez*s poor positioning to lob the chelsea keeper and give city the lead and phil foden raced through on goal and fired home with three minutes left to seal all three points for city at the etihad. two other scores to bring you — with huge signifance in the bottom half of the table. iliman ndaiye earned everton back to back wins under david moyes in his 700th premier league game. they beat brighton i—nil. meanwhile bottom side southampton let slip an early lead, beaten 3—1 at home to newcastle — a sixth straight home league defeat — a new, unwanted club record. it's the longest active away day in the football league and plymouth argyle made the long journey home a bit more bearable for theirfans with a 90th minute equaliser to draw 2—2 at sunderland, and deny the home side the chance to go third in the championship. elsewhere, norwich

7:38 pm
it's the best games to play. to walk out on stamford bridge with the fans behind us and it's so loud and yeah, it's an amazing feeling. it's an extra pressure in those games. you never know what to expect, but, it's the games you love to win and hate to lose. and yeah, it means something extra for everyone involved. we want to win everything. having said that very openly, but we know how much hard work we have to put in every single day to try and achieve that. and, you know, everyone is working so hard, sacrificing so much to be here and what will be, will be, but we're going to give it a shot. as the old addage goes, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. madison keys embodies that spirit more than most.
7:39 pm
at 29 years of age, having tried and failed 45 times to win a major title, not many gave her much hope against defending champion and hard court powerhouse aryna sabalenka in the australian open final. but the american emerged victorious in a thrilling three set tussle in melbourne — watched by nick parrott. finally, on top of the world down under, madison keys has faced plenty of obstacles in her career. the final one standing before her in a place in history was the imposing aryna sabalenka. the belarusian was aiming for a hat trick of australian open titles, but despite struggling with injuries for much of her career, keys is a powerful player and made the perfect start. she stunned sabalenka in the opening set, hitting 11 winners. but the american also showed the deftest of touches.
7:40 pm
that look from - sabalenka said it all. after the first set, sabalenka felt the need to go off court to clear her head. she still lacked fluency, but momentum headed her way as she went on to level the match. the decider was tight and tense. it wasn't until the 12th game that keys found a way through. sensing herfirst major title was within reach, she upped the ante enough to turn her world upside down. nick parrott, bbc news. some great stats for this one. only marion bartoli, goran ivanisavic and flavia pennetta have taken more attempts before winning a grand slam. she defeated three top ten players, including seed numbers one and two. and sabalenka had won 33 of her previous 3a matches on australian hard courts. major titles don't come easy, but they seldom come much tougher than this. let's get some reaction from both women then, starting with the newest member of the grand slam winners club.
7:41 pm
i'm just really proud of myself, and i didn't always believe that i could get back to this point, but to be able to do it and win isjust... it means the world to me. ijust kept telling myself in my head, you like, "be brave, go for it." just kind of lay it all out, lay it all out on the line. and kind of at that point, no matter what happens, if i do that, then i can be proud of myself and just, you know, itjust made it a little bit easier. it's definitely not the result that i wanted to have, but i don't know. i think she just stepped in and played like nothing to lose at the end and wasjust going for her shots. she fight throughout the tournament. she had a lot of difficult matches. she fought for it and in the final she was playing really aggressively. double british success to bring you too. starting in the doubles where henry patten and partner harri heliovaara won a dramatic men's final.
7:42 pm
they lost a mammoth first set against simone bolelli and andrea vavasorri, squandering ten set points in a 24—minute, 3a point tie break. patten and heliovaara roared back to win the next two 7—6, 6—3 to add to their wimbledon crown from 202a. the match finished just before 2am local time. and alfie hewett added the men's wheelchair singles title to his doubles win with gordon reid. hewett beat defending champion tokito oda 6—4,6—4, having lost the last three major finals between the two. he caught up with my colleague gavin ramjaun a little earlier. things don't get much better than this, so we prep and train
7:43 pm
a lot for these moments and unfortunately i have been on the wrong side of them in recent months and years so to get this one and to get over the line at the end, it was a really special feeling. this is an opponent you are building a rivalary with, tokita oda, a straight set win and a convincing one, what is it like with that rivalry, what is it for you, what is the feeling like? it is a tough one to lose especially in major finals against them so one thing for sure, he is making me a better player and pushing my limits and not only me, he is pushing the whole field of wheelchair tennis to improve and the better in their games and that is why it feels extra special to do it and the way i did it as well feels quite clinical and executed well, i wanted to go out there and so enjoying it at the moment that we are having, though sometimes it is not so good being on the receiving end of a loss, but in sport you cannot win everything. this is your tenth in the men's wheelchair singles, it adds to the doubles you one with gordon on friday, which is another phenomenal achievement, how much more is there to achieve in your sense, what would you say is your next
7:44 pm
ambition? numbers is not something that i focused on, at the moment, i really am just looking up, trying to be better and i know a lot of people who are athletes say that, but we spend a lot of time preseason working hard on my game and trying to be better in certain areas and whether it was against tokito or another player, to be able to perform at my ability or to the best of my ability, it is remarkable and it is remarkable to reflect on that and we will celebrate this moment and take it away and go again, the tour does not stop. lots of talk about unbeaten records in the football earlier. how about this one in horse racing? consitution hill survived a stumble at the last hurdle to win the grade two unibet hurdle at cheltenham and make it ten wins from ten. he's favourite to regain the champion hurdle at the same venue in march. great britain's leading four—man bobsleigh team, piloted by brad hall,
7:45 pm
claimed a second world cup win of the season in st moritz. together with team—mates taylor lawrence, arran gulliver and leon greenwood, the quartet finished point 2—i seconds and leon greenwood, the quartet finished .21 seconds clear of the field. britain's elfyn evans has moved up to second overall at the monte carlo rally with just three stages to go. but he trails toyota team mate sebastien ogier by 20 seconds. the frenchman is aiming to claim victory for a record extending tenth time. we'll head back to australia where england women's calamitous ashes tour hit a new low as they were thrashed by 72 runs in the final t20 international. only two batters made double figures as they were, once again, totally outclassed. henry moeran was watching at the adelaide oval.
7:46 pm
during a tour that has seen plenty of failure, for england, this was unquestionably the worst performance, their second lowest total in t20 international cricket, a crushing win for australia, who have now won all six matches of the women's ashes so far. alex hartley, world cup winner with england in 2017. that was miserable for england. yeah, it's a case of "here we go again," isn't it? and actually that was the worst performance from england by a country mile. you think that second odi when they didn't chase 180, that was pretty poor. there was a lot of mistakes in that. but in the first innings england were ok. they did well. and then their the batting. it was just i felt so sorry for heather knight. it was almost like watching wickets tumble and tumble and tumble from while shejust sat on the bat handle at the other end. and, you know, it's a pretty deflated captain and you can see why there's just no one stepping up. what's going on?
7:47 pm
i don't know. i honestly, i don't know because i've seen this england side play for the last five or six years, and i haven't seen them play in the way that they're playing out here, whether or not they are listening to outside noise, when they're saying that they shouldn't be or they're not — maybe they are. also, australia are better than england. australia are by far better than england. they've got better skills, they're better in the field. you know, they are better. and there was a few mistakes today for me. beth mooney showed how to bat, she got 94. i mean she got 94, england got 90. i've got it written on my hand. but she played down the ground. she kept hitting shots down the ground straight back. england cross—batted shots kept getting out. and you can't do that on a wicket like that. it's getting to the point. we heard from grace harris, the australia batter, that they wanted to embarrass england or she said that they are embarrassing england. yeah, they were tonight and i'vejust spoken to darcy brown, who said the same. you know, we're thinking about the whitewash. we think we are now thinking about embarrassing england. and i actually think they embarrass themselves tonight. yeah. it's not been a good tour for england. it certainly wasn't a good game here in adelaide. and heading towards that test match at the mcg,
7:48 pm
the prospect of history for australia, a clean sweep across the multi—format series. well our team out in adelaide certainly not mincing their words — or disguising their knack of keeping score on body parts. but what does the head coach make of it? canjon lewis work out what's going wrong? probably one of the things that stood out for me across this tour is actually we've practised really, really well, but we haven't played very well. so the bit that we're missing is the bit where we cross the line as to how we how we go out and perform. if we, you know, we're doing a lot of really good stuff in practice, which is, i think, for the players and the coaching staff is really frustrating because we feel like we're in a good position. we've got some really good players and we haven't been able to transfer that onto the field, which is a great shame because, you know, i think this is a great opportunity for us to to show what a good cricket team we are, and we haven't been able to do that. if you were looking to england's men to provide some sporting salvation in chennai — well you'd be out of luck. it was a darn sight closer mind
7:49 pm
you, with india winning the second of five t20 internationals in the final over, in a game that ebbed one way then the other all afternoon. joe lynskey reports. this was t20 cricket in the balance to the finish. after the tension, india found away they'd won this thrilling after the tension, india found away. they'd won this thrilling match with just four balls to spare, but england know their target should have been much more. jos buttler was set but watched others fall around him. harry brook was bowled, having madejust 13. brydon carse with the tail dragged england forward. big shot. big connection. but when hejust made his start, then came hesitation. that run out left england with a low score to defend. but india were toiling. and now carse was emphatic. england had belief, but tilak varma cut through it. india's new star is just 22 years old and with eight wickets down, he faced the last over. india now lead 2—0 in the five match series.
7:50 pm
but cricket like this contest goes back and forth right to the end. joe lynskey, bbc news. it's the last weekend of premiership action before the six nations takes centre stage. gloucester beat leicester tigers by 38 points to 31 in a thriller at kingsholm to take the slater cup. leicester were thumped 80—12 by toulouse in the champions cup last time out but adam radwan*s try helped establish a 21—14 lead at the break. the tigers increased their advantage in the second half but gloucester fought back and chris harris scored one of the tries of the season as his side began to overwhelm the visitors. they led by ten going into the last quarter of the match and seb blake's try effectively put an end to leicester's challenge. gloucester move up to third place. the slater cup is awarded to the winner in honour of ed slater who played for both clubs before retiring from rugby after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
7:51 pm
elsewhere exeter chiefs enjoyed only their second league win of the season. they ran in five tries to beat saracens 31—22 at sandy park. ethan roots' score the best of the bunch. in the united rugby championship — it was it a corker in south wales where scarlets held on to beat edinburgh 30—24. the home side took control of the game with loan nicholas scoring one of scarlet*s three tries. edinburgh's late fightback saw them score 12 points injust ten minutes — but it wasn't enough. elsewhere, cardiff lost at home to sharks. in premiership women's rugby, harlequins missed the chance to leapfrog gloucester—hartpury at the top of the table after they were beaten at home by saracens. the win lifts sarries third though. loughborough lightning stuffed leicester tigers 61—12 in a one sided east midlands derby at welford road. elsewhere bristol's playoff push was dented — losing 39—38 to trailfinders. now, the tension of any professional sport can be high as athletes try to execute theirjobs to perfection — but a new bmx competition in manchester will see riders encouraged to try tricks
7:52 pm
they've never attempted before, with the promise they won't lose points if they fall. it's been launched by former pro sebastian keep — he's been speaking to our reporterjames dunn. known on the scene for his creativity and bravery... you're a lunatic. ..from riding world war ii relics to building a giant man made super ramp, bas keep has been re—inventing bmxing for more than 20 years. and he's doing it again with a new competition where riders aren't punished for falling. sometimes when you go to some of the olympic events, you see the riders complete this sort of 60 second polished run that they've practised a million times at home, and they do
7:53 pm
all these amazing tricks, but it's all so smooth that sometimes the people in the crowd, if you look at them, they're a bit it looks a bit easy, but when you see a rider try a trick and fall, suddenly the crowd wake up and they go, "wow". just going all in, trying to flip tailwhip over that volcano. red bull's new format will feature some of the biggest names in the sport with multiple olympic medallists, but there will be no polished performances here. riders will have to go big or go home. i think you definitely see tricks that we've never seen before, because the riders will be able to go again when they fail and there's nothing like when the crowd gets behind you and you're trying to trick. it's like when all your friends are going, "you got this, pick yourself up, you got this." and itjust enables the sport to carry on progressing upwards. it's a concept based, pioneered with his viral video walls, with one hugejump that consumed him for years. it was one of those that when we visited it, it was too big. you know, there was a few of my friends as well that were genuinely, like,
7:54 pm
worried for my life. he made thejump, and the image of bas flying through the air became iconic within the sport. even though he fell as he landed because. even though he fell as he landed . because i didn't actually ride away completely clean. there was a bit of an uproar on the internet of people complaining, you know, that i didn't pull it. but for me and the lads involved in the project, we were just like, he's alive. you know, i visualised the photograph and the image of me jumping so much that ijust needed that to become reality. i needed to do it. and lots of people in the bmx community tend to say it's one of their favourite photos of all time. but the tricks are coming now. bas keep wants the sport to reward athletes who take a chance and try something. his new competition in manchester this april will do just that. james dunn, bbc news, hastings. and we're approaching peak season, for people lucky enough to go skiing and snowboarding, but i'm pretty sure few, if any, will be able to attempt this — it's a snowboard first. japan's hiroto ogiwara landed
7:55 pm
the world's first backside 2160 in competition. it was in aspen colarado last night. the 2160 is the number of degrees of rotation. unsurprisingly, it was enough to win the pacifico men's snowboard big air at the x games. reminder of our top story: liverpool maintain their six point lead at the top of the table after their 4—1 win over ipswich. elsewhere that win for man city over chelsea moves them up to fourth — chelsea drop to 6th. what a few weeks bournemouth are having — just a point off the champions league spot. brighton lost ground but stay 9th daylight for everton at the other end of the table. seven clear of the drop zone and bottom four afterwolves, ipswich and southampton all lost. leicester play spurs tomorrow. it's 19 losses in 23 games for southampton now. plenty more reaction on the bbc sport website and app and here with karthi on bbc news throughout
7:56 pm
the evening. but from me and the rest of the sportsday team — thanks for watching. hello. storm eowyn has been clearing away northwards, leaving most of us with a better looking day today. certainly calmer than it was yesterday for this weather watcher in fife. a little bit of sunshine overhead as well. something wintry on the ground for this weather watcher in enniskillen. but tomorrow, things go downhillagain, particularly across southern and western parts with some wet and windy weather. so yesterday's storm system clearing away northwards. you can see the swirl of cloud on the satellite picture. this little band of cloud is moving eastwards right now, bringing some hefty showers. this shield of cloud is another developing low and that will start to influence our weather from tomorrow. but for the time being, through tonight, this band of hefty showers continues to journey eastwards.
7:57 pm
some wintriness in the showers across the north, particularly in scotland, where things will also be quite icy and it will be pretty windy for a time across the north west corner of scotland. temperatures widely dropping close to freezing, below freezing in places. a little bit milder you'll notice, though, down to the far southwest, ahead of the arrival of this next area of low pressure. now, this looks like a pretty deep low, and it has been named not by the uk met office, but by the spanish weather service. it's been named storm herminia for impacts it is going to have in spain, but i suspect it will also have some impact here because tomorrow we will see outbreaks of heavy rain driving northeastwards across england, wales, northern ireland into southern scotland. bit of snow over high ground. northern scotland staying mostly fine but with a few showers. but it is going to be windy for parts of northern ireland, western coasts of england and wales, down along the south coast as well. gusts of 50, 60, 70mph in the most exposed spots, so that could cause some issues and temperatures of four to ten degrees. and instead of clearing through quickly, this area of low pressure isjust
7:58 pm
going to spin close to the uk as we move out of sunday and on into monday. so for monday itself, we will see further showers or longer spells of rain. some places, particularly say parts of wales, central and southern england, could have enough rain to give some flooding issues. it's still going to be pretty windy. gales around some exposed coasts and temperatures in many spots around five to nine degrees. stays unsettled through tuesday into wednesday. things then look like they will calm down for the end of the week.
