throughout the day, we are going to be speaking to all of the major political parties, to get their take on what they would do to reform the nhs. let's speak to the deputy leader of reform uk, richard tice. welcome to bbc news. first of all, i will be asking everyone the same question, but what are your constituents telling you of their main concerns when it comes to the nhs? i of their main concerns when it comes to the nhs?_ comes to the nhs? i think everybody _ comes to the nhs? i think everybody knows - comes to the nhs? i think everybody knows that - comes to the nhs? i think everybody knows that the | comes to the nhs? i think- everybody knows that the nhs is broken. my constituents know it needs reform. i think that is recognised across all the parties. the question is, how you reform it. we have put forward very clearly that it is

not a question of money, it's a question of productivity, about cutting out the waste, mismanagement, the bureaucracy you havejust mismanagement, the bureaucracy you have just heard from previous contributor. the huge increase in money going in, but thatis increase in money going in, but that is not recognised with similar numbers of operations. what we are going to do is use much more of the independent sector, of course, health care should still be free at the point of delivery. that is absolutely sacrosanct. but we need to have the independent sector to be producing far more of the operations, consultants, scans and appointments. bluntly, the independent blu ntly, the independent sector, bluntly, the independent sector, some is not for profit, some is for profit, is a lot more efficient. we polled it, and about 80% of people don't care who sort it out, theyjust want the pain gone, the agony gone, and sooner rather than later. if we carry on like this, with an unreformed nhs, the waiting list will stay at these totally unacceptable

these totally u na cce pta ble levels. these totally unacceptable levels. , , ., these totally unacceptable levels. ., levels. lets pick what you said they are- _ levels. lets pick what you said they are- are _ levels. lets pick what you said they are. are you _ levels. lets pick what you said they are. are you saying - levels. lets pick what you said they are. are you saying that i they are. are you saying that you want to encourage people to take up private health insurance, a plan that some other countries like france have? is other countries like france have? , ., ., ., ., have? is a combination of two thins. have? is a combination of two thinqs- what _ have? is a combination of two things. what was _ have? is a combination of two things. what was said - have? is a combination of two things. what was said in - have? is a combination of two things. what was said in the l things. what was said in the election was that those who can afford to pay a bit more, we should encourage you to do so, because by doing so and going independent, you will free up pressure on the nhs. that means everybody will get treated faster. so we should give basic rate tax relief all of those who go through private health insurance or through self—pay. that will be a good thing because it could ease the pressure on the nhs, it means everybody gets treated faster. the key point is if you can afford to pay a bit more, we will incentivise you to do so and that will be a good thing. i repeat the clear point, even wes streeting, the health secretary, agrees that we need to make more use of the independent sector. the nhs itself should be buying

millions of appointments and scans, and operations, from the independent sector, which will mushroom incapacity, competition is a good thing, it drives up standards, drives down costs, everybody is a winner. ,, ., , . ., winner. should be clear, your premat— winner. should be clear, your preposal will— winner. should be clear, your proposal will lead _ winner. should be clear, your proposal will lead to - winner. should be clear, your proposal will lead to private | proposal will lead to private health companies, private hospitals doing more routine nhs work?— nhs work? they already do seven. the _ nhs work? they already do seven. the health - nhs work? they already do | seven. the health secretary nhs work? they already do - seven. the health secretary and i have talked about the fact that they need to do much, much more. they can be much more efficient. i know a surgeon who can do to marconi operations... sorry, when he does in the operations in an nhs hospital, he can do to muck in the morning. he goes to a private hospital he can hospital down the road, he can do three in the morning. they are better organised, more efficient, more setup. that is the sort of efficiency we need to get out of health care. let's talk about the word health care, not who provides it. , a ,

health care, not who provides it. , , ., ., health care, not who provides it. let me pick up on that, you sa that it. let me pick up on that, you say that these _ it. let me pick up on that, you say that these private - say that these private hospitals are better run and more efficient, but also they are better funded, more efficient, but also they are betterfunded, they are run as businesses.
