european leaders have lined up to show their support for, as politicians express fears for the future of western security. british prime minister sir keir starmer will host ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky at downing street this afternoon. the ukrainian delegation is now in london, after flying in from the us. this was the moment the plane touched down ahead of tomorrow's meeting with european leaders in london for a security summit. the meeting between the two leaders follows president zelensky*s clash with president trump and vice presidentjd vance in the oval office yesterday. president trump accused the ukrainian leader of "gambling with world war three", and of not being gratefulfor the support of the us.

president zelensky made it clear there should be "no compromises" with president putin. following those exchanges, the president of ukraine was ordered to leave the white house, and the american minerals deal was not signed. the us president later said president zelensky could return our diplomatic correspondent, james landale reports. ahead of a meeting with the prime minister and european than the intemperate shouting match he got at the white house. in extraordinary furious exchanges, donald trump and his number two angrily railed at ukraine's president, accusing him of being disrespectful for resisting a ceasefire deal without security guarantees. with respect, it is disrespectful coming don't tell us what to feel.

who replied to everyone saying simply, thank you for your support. but is that support enough? as the war continues, russian drones striking a hospital overnight in kharkiv, ukraine and europe now face a tough question, how long could they resist russian forces if donald trump pulled the plug on us military aid? james landale, bbc news.

white house is going definitely to suit russia very well. lets to suit russia very well. lets ick u- to suit russia very well. lets pick up on — to suit russia very well. lets pick up on that _ to suit russia very well. lets pick up on that final - to suit russia very well. lets pick up on that final thought because donald trump has not beenin because donald trump has not been in the white house for very long in his second term butjust how, in your eyes, has the relationship between russia and the us been reset since he has come in?— has come in? well, definitely, we see more _ has come in? well, definitely, we see more conversation - we see more conversation dialogue. vladimir putin this week made a speech in front of russia's fsp, the security service and he said that this new line that donald trump took, and his relationship with russia, definitely shows promise. but not more than that. we sell those meetings in saudi arabia. we saw talks in istanbul. there are talks of

how russia and the us are going to restore a number of embassy personnel in america and russia. this is a very important, of course. this is a development that would be difficult to imagine had joe biden, for instance, stayed in the white house. and it is a completely different kind of rhetoric but so far i think it is very important to divide what we hear, what those leaders are talking about and what is actually happening. so far, nothing substantial, you know, has happened yet. there were still raging and still going on. russia and ukraine are still fighting, as we are speaking, right the us is still sending this military aid to ukraine. us are still involved in training ukrainian soldiers, sharing intelligence which has been crucial for ukraine being able to fight russia. so it is able to fight russia. so it is a very delicate situation. it
2:15 pm
is definitely a new environment and i think both sides, they have acknowledged that on numerous occasions. but i think it is important to understand that donald trump right now once a quick deal, as he said many times. and that suits vladimir putinjust find many times. and that suits vladimir putin just find that both putin and russian, you know, minister of foreign affairs lover of, they made it clear that yes, russia is ready for a ceasefire but only if it happens under russia's conditions. so far does not feel that russia is ready for any compromise. and even the topic of, you know, european peacekeeping mission in ukraine which has been peacekeeping mission in ukraine which has be europe, it has ukraine for a europe, it has been discussed right now, we *what been discussed right now, we * what is been discussed right now, we *what is russia's don't know what is russia's position on that. the russian foreign minister said it is of the table. we absolutely of the table. we will have to see how it is and what going to unfold and what compromises, veni, russia is willing to make trump
2:16 pm
importantly, if donald trump does make how far is he ready importantly, if donald trump does ma having far is he ready importantly, if donald trump does ma having those 1e ready to go on having those discussions with vladimir putin? is he going to conferences, recognise sovereignty over some of the occupied territories of ukraine * the most which has been one of the most important of putting's conditiens? to conditions? is he going to pursue europe to lift any sanctions and what leveraged will be here? we'll have to see how it is going to unfold. so, how has the exchange been viewed in kyiv? there is no respite from the day to day, full scale invasion. it continues to combat. if you look at donald trump

perhaps suggesting the door is still open, perhaps if you look at president zelensky still thanking america after that extraordinary exchange, perhaps but it increasingly feels like this was less to do america into a deeper level of cooperation. house was suggesting. for $500 billion worth of natural minerals. and we thought that perhaps ahead of president zelensky*s provide the security guarantees, the military promises it wants to prop up any ceasefire in the future, that they still need america to be there in case, in case
2:18 pm
to commit to that despite lengthy diplomatic and you saw a president zelensky there, um, seemingly to a couple last night. they were pleased. there are some mps who felt he could have been a bit more tactile in the face of, and vice president of the united states. but broadly speaking, there's a rule in ukraine. whenever the country is under threat, be it from the invasion or whether its president zelensky himself, it
2:20 pm
or whether its president zelensky himself, take that so deal, ukraine can take that so there is an option here where europe delivers for ukraine and i think that is very uncertain. europe has got a lot of the same problems and there is this constant fear that you must have the us as a backstop. the us must be in europe addressing the potential price of that could be very high so it comes down to, does europe pull together today will eventually do it in a few years, which could be much more expensive? or will europe never pulled together and actually will sink into slight obscurity in the world stage in favour of greater powers. this is a very crunch meeting. it was all ready. it is going to be, i think in the light of what has happened now, and if it fails then, yeah, ukraine has few options and it is the case of a price that they will pay for that. sir lawrence freedman is a professor of war studies at king's college london. here is his assessment of what support ukraine will need after president zelensky*s

a little bit of reassurance, perhaps this morning in that very brief statement from the vatican. we do get these short morning updates. and this morning, the vatican simply said that the night was peaceful and that the pope was now resting. ithink, you know, obviously coming after the more dramatic news from yesterday, which was the second time that the vatican had used the word "crisis" when describing what had happened to the pope. i think that will be a little bit of a relief for many of the catholics who are following this very, very closely right around the world. yesterday, what the vatican said, and they were obviously quoting the doctors, they said that there had been an isolated breathing crisis. and essentially we then had a briefing where officials explained to us that the pope had had a coughing fit, a spasm of his lungs, and he had been struggling for breath because he was sick. his lungs had to be aspirated, so they had to be cleared of obstruction.

to the east of the pennines, and also across southern parts and central parts of england as well as wales. temperatures a fraction higher, around ten to possibly 13 celsius, and the high will stick around through the beginning of next week. in fact centred around the alps and the balkans. we are brushed eventually by weather systems in the northwest of the uk, so there's always going to be a bit more cloud and maybe a few spots of rain, but further south, my goodness, look at that.
