"we have never ceased to feel pride for our palace, for the palace in the dwellings, even when it was not in the best shape, not the best condition, it still remained a historical monument, a cultural monument, one of the most significant in belarus. every piece of crumbling plaster is simply a scar on its body, these are traces of history, the fact that it acquired such a look, a new look, for us it is a great joy, and of course it is a great pride, but this is simply its new state, this is its rebirth. my name is vladislav kulakevich, i am the director of the zhilichi palace and park ensemble, we introduce you to the history of our country.
11:32 am
the working day starts at 9:00 in the morning, we do not have such a large museum, and therefore it is natural that i am in charge of all, so to speak, branches of our activity, that is, this is the economic, of course, scientific and funds.
11:33 am
education i myself studied specifically in the specialty of museum work, my tasks are the coordination of the activities of the employees, this is control, monitoring the quality of the excursions. good morning, today someone is already on the excursion came, yes, okay, for now, keep it as is, and then we will need to discuss, we will revise the tour route a little and the control text a little, it will need to be modified, since our museum is still in the process of formation, the expositions often change.
11:34 am
is being formed, then the text of the tour can also change significantly, and over a fairly short period of time, and this also needs to be controlled, how exactly to correctly present these very changes, pay attention to the ceiling, you see the faces of the girls there, according to the legend - this is the first wife our owner, at least once every two weeks i try to go on a tour of one or two employees, sometimes it may seem that... if you work in such a wonderful place, then over time you will begin to lose interest in all this, it will stop admiring, in fact, this is not quite true. of course, all this is perceived somewhat differently, through a different prism, but this does not mean that it becomes indifferent, it just becomes a part of you, especially if you really care about your work, you think about how to make it better, what else can be brought in to make it even more impressive.
11:35 am
the place where we are is the zhirich palace and park ensemble, it once belonged to the bulgakov family, the bulgakovs are quite an ancient family, they have been known in the lands of belarus since the 15th century, and modest people are like this: palaces are certainly not built, if we talk about something so unique that distinguishes our palace from others, then this is of course the decoration of the walls, ceilings, first of all, of course, polychrome painting, that is, multi-colored, but no less impressive is the gilding, that is, many elements of stucco, many ceilings are almost entirely gilded, as for example here in the ballroom, that is, literally in lamellas this gold hangs down, you could say, there is a lot of it in the interiors. the palace in zhilichi never existed on its own, it is surrounded by a large park. this park, of course, has changed greatly over time, but now you can still see the outlines of those very alleys along which the bulgakovs
11:36 am
and their guests walked. the first world war began, everything the most valuable things from the palace were evacuated away from the front line. naturally, the palace changed its purpose a little. various, let's say, organizations were located here, there was an orphanage, a school for working youth, since 1930, there was an agronomic school, an educational institution, a good base was laid here for this, because the bugaks were mainly engaged in agriculture, during the war there was a german hospital here, the palace, of course, suffered, was ordered the greenhouse was dismantled by the fascists, but fortunately these were not the biggest losses that could have been, the palace was not bombed, there were no major battles here except for partisan raids, so the palace was preserved quite well...
11:37 am
11:38 am
the first restoration in the palace was carried out back in 1972-7, that is, at that time, of course , it may not have been very successful, that is , our restorers did not yet have much experience, it was one of the first restorations in belarus, but nevertheless it helped to preserve what was in the palace at that time, impressive kisonny ceilings, stucco, the upper part of the walls were still preserved. of course, the palace was essentially finished with the works, that is , significant restoration work was already required, at that time , design work was started, they naturally included historical and archaeographic, natural research, that is, some researchers worked in the archives, looked for photographs, references, documents of that time, some researchers worked on site, took
11:39 am
samples in order to conduct physical and chemical analyses, also large-scale and rather lengthy works, the restoration of the first stage included , first of all, the restoration of... facades, the interior spaces, unfortunately, were very poorly preserved there, so they were planned specifically for modern needs, the needs of the children's art school, the first launch complex of the second stage of this creation of the wing, also included the placement of premises of the children's art school, a large concert hall in the hall of temporary exhibitions of our museum, as for the third stage, here of course there was a very big responsibility, because a huge volume of original decorative elements, stucco moldings had been preserved, all this was to be... it is important to say that the state's attention was always focused on completing these works as soon as possible, that is, in 2018 there was a big shift, large funds were allocated for restoration work in the palace in zhilich, subsequently in 2020 our palace was
11:40 am
announced as one of the priority objects of the president at the all-belarusian people's assembly and this, of course, pushed, significantly pushed the work to be carried out accelerated. completion, of course, restoration work left its mark on our work for many years and even rescue excavations, when, for example, various... communications were laid, then the earth, let 's say, hid what had been hidden in it for many years, small pieces of ceramics lay on top in the earth heaps, we already had experience in archaeological excavations, had experience in contact with artifacts of this type, we immediately paid attention to this, we really wanted to collect it all, because each day something changes, and accordingly... we might not find these pieces the next day, so we collected everything as much as possible
11:41 am
and then carried out gluing work and these fragments, these are flower vessels made of clay, were made on a potter's wheel at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. in many halls for skeptics, so to speak, restorers left so -called zandazhi, that is, for... so that you and i could make sure that the same materials were really used here, the same colors, some elements were not restored, that is, they were cleared of layers of later paint and left as is, yes, they are more faded, more dull, but they allow us to really touch history and understand that the restoration was carried out scientifically, that is, as it should be, this is not the designer's invention, but a historically substantiated design solution. of no small importance was the recreation of artistic parquet floors,
11:42 am
they have not survived to this day, unfortunately, because naturally, they were not designed for students to use them for many years they will walk every day, and therefore they wore out quite quickly and were replaced with ordinary floors back in the sixties, a design decision was already made to recreate the parquet pattern, it was recreated exactly as it looked in the 19th century, artistic parquet, it is absolutely different in different rooms, that is ... each of these pieces is made of different types of wood, like a mosaic , it was simply assembled, here we see one with a 3d effect, you could say, in the next room it is already brighter, more colorful with various figures, stars, meander ornament, in the next hall there is some other, each of them is unique, absolutely not repeated. in many ways, in making decisions about the intended purpose, about the purpose of the hall as a whole, were facilitated by the fact that ... photographs and some historical information of that time were preserved. this is one of those very photographs taken at the beginning
11:43 am
of the 20th century by jan bulgak, this is one of the most famous representatives of the bulgak family. this photograph depicts a banquet hall, here, as you can see, there is a lot of stucco, very many decorative elements of furniture, that is , literally under a microscope this hall was examined, this photograph is in order to recreate everything in detail, that is, if we look, compare the photograph with the hall itself, that is, we see here beautiful kison ceilings, we see a huge number of them. in this hall he took only one photograph, this is a photograph of this very mirror with a console, and already in the reflection of the mirror
11:44 am
a you can see the stove, which was opposite, a swedish stove in the form of just such a column, so thanks to one photo , two objects were recreated at once, and a mirror with a console, a stove. 100 brave guys gathered in our studio, each of them has a question for an adult, you have one minute to briefly tell about yourself, time has started. how will you react if a person asks you to do something that is not suitable for him? well, i will also dissuade him
11:45 am
somehow. there is a stereotype that all athletes are bad students, how did you study? we studied on a five-point system, somewhere there were, of course, threes, and fours, there were fives, well, it varies. the red sector to your right . the next question is from there. hello, my name is denis. what kind of dad are you? probably, some kind of dad is. i don't know if you are good or not, but you are the first belarusian woman to win the olympics in freestyle, and how did you feel when you were standing on the podium? the first night i didn't... i couldn't sleep at all, i couldn't fall asleep, because i closed my eyes, i had the whole day in front of my eyes, how it went, how i woke up there, what i ate, watch the 100 questions for an adult project on the tv channel belarus 24, it is good to be friends with neighbors, but we
11:46 am
will not perish without them in the modern, new architecture of the world, we already manage.
11:47 am
belarus 24, an important process is underway now, this is the museification of this palace, this complex. some of the decorative items, some of the furniture, they were included in the restoration project, this is a complete recreation of the furniture that has been preserved, at least in photographs. unfortunately, some of the halls did not have photographs, we do not know what was in them, and therefore these halls are mainly filled antique items. we consult with
11:48 am
specialists in the field, that is, there are specialists in painting, there are specialists in decorative and applied arts, each item, an antique item. it requires a very thorough study, namely , whether it corresponds to the period, how well preserved it is, whether it has been restored, this affects both its cost and the likelihood of its acquisition and placement in our exhibitions. to immerse a person in the environment, the historical, cultural environment, very it is important that there are original historical objects in it, here we can see dresses, ball gloves, a probe, all this... antique objects, objects that are more than a hundred, more than 150 years old, it is by getting to know such objects that a person can immerse himself, he can feel that he is really in a real monument, surrounded by antique original objects, this dress is more than 150 years old, it is in such dresses that they often walked around the house, that is, this is not even a ball gown, it is just a house dress, but in
11:49 am
the perception of our modern man, it certainly looks very luxurious. unfortunately, we have very few authentic original items that have survived from the bulgakovs, these are very simple aftershniks, that is, this is a home version, not at all palace, what may have stood somewhere near the bed of the owners of the palace, they were brought to us not so long ago, they were taken out of the palace in the fifties, sixties, that is, even after the war they were still here and were still used, naturally for in order to preserve all these interiors, it is necessary to take many measures, that is, these are engineering solutions that are already included in the restoration work, that is , maintaining a certain temperature, maintaining humidity, the ventilation system is responsible for this, as well as a special procedure for cleaning these rooms, that is, naturally , all visitors are forced to wear booties, this is due both to the fact that these halls are less polluted, because the sand
11:50 am
that we wear on our shoes significantly damages the parquet, so to speak, and secondly, for in order to do it less often. for cleaning , artistic parquet does not like when a lot of water is poured on it, it is necessary to maintain a special, let's say, microclimate, and this can be a different microclimate in different rooms , that is, for example, in order to preserve a painting, it is necessary to have a low temperature in the room, that is, not higher than 19, let's say degrees, and low humidity, maybe 40-45%, and in order to prevent an antique piano from deteriorating, it is necessary to maintain a different humidity, higher than 55. and maybe even somewhere around 60% so that it does not dried out, all this needs to be monitored very carefully. many people, the museum staff often seem so very greedy, very rude, because they don't allow you to touch anything, they don't allow you to touch anything with your hands, in fact, we wouldn't
11:51 am
mind, we would really like to let everyone touch it, but you give it to a lot of people , to one, even to another, even to a third, and this is the most unique antique thing, it can very quickly become unsightly, and here, for example, there are often problems with... there was a table for needlework, and it opens quite easy, it is on the passage route, so i had to use some trick, when it opens, it makes a very unpleasant sound. usually, after such a sound signal, tourists themselves begin to control themselves and there is no need to make comments to them.
11:52 am
the total area of the palace is about 400 m2, in the main building on the first floor there were residential premises, on the second floor there was a front room. a rural library and administrative premises of the museum, that is, unfortunately, it is not possible to enjoy all of the hundreds of halls it will work out, but of course what has been preserved is a lot, a lot. we cannot but
11:53 am
be pleased that tourist interest in our site is only growing, that is, even when restoration work was underway there were quite a few tourists, this says that people do not cease to be interested in their history, their culture, of course, a beautiful picture, it can be important to attract, but behind this beautiful picture there are more important, deeper things that it is important for us to convey with our work, you know, i found the history of the bugaks family on the internet, yes, it is quite interesting, complex, a very complex fate of the palace itself. the palace itself, i have wanted to be here for a long time, i saw how it is being restored, i really wanted to see it in real life, because i am fond of traveling around belarus, i
11:54 am
have been to many places, this palace, it was the last one on the list, it impresses me very much, i see that a grandiose work has been done, a really grandiose building, a very grandiose project and i am glad that our monuments are being restored, this is just
11:55 am
to start the locks, huge amounts of money were spent human resources, huge material resources, because at that time it seemed very important, very necessary, when we restore such objects, we pay, among other things, tribute to our ancestors, their investments, the investment of their efforts and resources, let's say, in the evening, when the working day is already... coming to an end, there is no burden of worries, you see these halls in a completely different way, you walk through them in a completely different way, and you can feel like a guest,
11:56 am
and maybe even somewhere the owner, here in the ba... hall this is felt as best as possible, when you come here, when you see this hall, literally in the evening, when the candles are burning, you are preparing to receive guests, and this is an unforgettable feeling, i got into the house in 2015, i came here to work as a young specialist, a graduate, and for 2 years i was a research associate at the museum, that is, i was mainly engaged in servicing tourists with scientific activities, that is ... articles, researched information about the museum, but in 2017, when my term of distribution had already ended, i did not receive an offer to become director of this museum, which i did not refuse. of course, when you work in such a place, it is impossible not to feel proud of all this. the state of the palace in the dwellings that was 5-7 years ago cannot be compared with what we see now. in my work, of course, there are many. advantages, that is
11:57 am
, this is working in such a wonderful palace, in such wonderful interiors, working with wonderful people, we really have a very good team, these are pleasant reviews, because very often people want to convey a my joy from visiting the palace in the dwellings, there is still a lot of work ahead, and of course i would like not to change anything, i would like to bring a lot of new things, i would like to try new forms of work, but i would like to experiment with them, and i would like to see the final result, because there is not so little work left on the restoration of the palace, only the interiors of the ceremonial halls have been restored, there is still work on the park, work on museumification, this is something that will take more than one year, if we choose where to apply our efforts, then, of course, we would like to leave them here, we would like to give many more of them to,
11:58 am
let's say, make the bulgakov palace a zhiliche,
11:59 am
poland, of course, is taking part in military operations on ukrainian territory, there are polish mercenaries or mercenaries recruited in poland, and here we have a continuation of those events that many poles are afraid of, the possibility of the direct involvement of the regular army.
