who have been suspended for the time being in jurisdictions around the world. it is in zürich, singapore, and new york. total caught up in this are at 30. at least nine or 10 of the biggest banks around the world. you're talking about oriented dollars. it would not surprise me. there is a market in the world and the behavior looks egregious. authorities are looking at this and the investigation down the road and thinking that the tail on this will be enormous. >> you have to set aside revenue to fund the wrongdoing. that seems to be where the banking industry is at at the moment.

a court in turkey has overturned the ban on twitter. our middle east editor has more. a little bit of a blow to the ruling party just days before local elections. >> yeah, it kind of is and it isn't. it is innocence it'll add ammunition to those criticizing the government for the last few days regarding its decision to it waswitter, saying ill-conceived and probably illegal from the very start. on the other hand, in practical terms, it hasn't actually changed anything just yet. you still cannot access twitter by conventional means inside of turkey. we discussed the other day the nonconventional means. at the same time, the turkish government, although saying we accept this decision even if we don't necessarily like it, they also say they have 30 days in which to implement it. in the meantime, they might decide to lodge an appeal. there may be more legal avenues and legal globex coming.

saying yesterday, we filed petitions for lawsuits we've been working on together with our independent turkish attorney over the last few days in various turkish courts. it will challenge the access and on twitter. adding they expect the government to restore access to twitter immediately so that it citizens can continue an open dialogue at of the elections to be held at the end of the week. of course the government has intimated it may take a little longer than that before the ban is lifted. this, as you pointed out, head of these elections come the weekend. what would be the significance of these elections and what kind of a threat they potentially could pose? erdogan's name is not specifically on the ballot, but he has been campaigning vigorously alongside the candidates in istanbul.

i suppose what the significance is, if there is a poor showing for his party, that could torpedo his ambition to run for the presidency later this year. there are elections due at the end of august. at the same time, if his party does well, then he can use this as a springboard to the presidential elections. we will sit as a further approval of the way he has been governing turkey of the last two years. a significant election, more significant than local elections would normally be. is theople saying this predecessor to the role of erdogan. >> thank you very much. we will be covering the selections throughout the weekend and on monday morning. >> a london-based company is being held for providing a vital missing piece in the search for the malaysian airlines plane that is gone missing. we were invited inside the

company to find out how this lucky satellite company has seen its profits -- sorry, its profile rocket over the last few days. >> the search for missing theysian flight mh370 is biggest in aviation history. thousands of men and women scouring millions of square miles looking for a needle in a haystack. even with some of the most sophisticated search and rescue equipment available, finding the missing plane has been tough. the biggest breakthrough did not happen in the southern indian ocean. it happened here in the hustle and bustle of the east end of london. in an unremarkable building filled with people doing remarkable things. the satellite businesses 1979, and went public in 2005. it probably has 10 operational communication satellites that

are used by everything from ships to planes to broadcasters. what they do here really is rocket science, but figuring out what happened to mh370 required some radical thinking. a week of hard work and lots of pizza. >> the way they did that was with this. no, not the racing car, but the doppler effect which describes how signal frequency changes over distance. in the racing cars case, that sound. in this case, it was pings between the satellite and aircraft. what that allow the engineers here to do was not only figure out the corridors in which the aircraft could've been operating, but more critically, the direction of travel down here into the southern indian ocean. the hope now is that tangible evidence will be found that will actually explain what really happened. but whatever that is, narrowing

there will be a lot of symbolism involved. there will be a lot of trying to recharge their images with the meetings. obama is trying to recharge his image by meeting pope francis and ramsey by meeting obama. that is sort of the framework within we are working. then you have obama as we speak meeting with the pope. it is a historic moment. in a way his try to recall the old days when reagan met with pope tau, who is also a very cap -- pope john paul, who was also very charismatic pope. some people have spoken about iron curtains. i don't want to get too far into that, that it is a very historic moment and both obama and the pope has spoken against what is going on in ukraine and putin's annexation of crimea.

we will see how that goes. it is a meeting that is both symbolic and important politically. -- heis interesting that is basically in rome to meet the pope. he is not there really to meet the prime minister. the pope is the draw, not the prime minister. symbolically, the pope is the draw. that is what obama wants to show. he was to show he's meeting an important person. also right now, pope francis vrable ratings are very high and he is the man of the poor, the man of social change, which is something that is very dear to obama's heart as well. quickly, there are a couple of things an agenda that are practical, business that he will discuss with renzi. about that we'll talk energy needs. italy gets a lot of gas from ukraine and north africa, especially from libya in which right now is in a lot of trouble , libya. this means italy will have less gas and have to buy gas somewhere. many analysts are saying the

>> welcome back. you are watching "the pulse." >> five banks have failed the fed's annual stress test. they include citigroup and the u.s. units of rbs and hsbc. they missed the grade because of concerns about the quality of their capital. >> for more, let's bring in markets.com chief economist. is this negative for the dollar? >> i don't think so. it is a situation where we have known let's say post-lehman brothers, too big to fail, etc., so the banks are under a terminus amount of looking at each and everything. one thing you have to look at, is it a question of, are they keeping the capital and not lending it?

therefore, their capital base goes up never want complaints about banks not lending. at least two of the banks has a "readjustment." submit their documentation police two or three times to see if it is a situation. lend ratherob is to than just to keep the money. that is what they been doing. >> are not going to have the same problem in europe? we're just months away from the aqr. we need much more lending in europe. it is very fragile. >> anybody from the bank of england down and u.k. says, yes, we are having a nice recovery. but it is not a consumer-led recovery. the simple fact is, if you're starting to worry about our interest rates going up, and i think we have 11.2 mean people in the u.k. that of mortgages. if interest rates start going up, are they going to be having to spend 200, 300, 500 pounds

more? if we are going have any legitimate recovery and u.k., it has to be consumer-lead. one thing we're seeing now in the last two years, more and more people spending less and less of their savings. so we are having a reduction in the savings rate, consumption is not going up, and although we see a narrowing between inflation and wages, is going to have to be consumer-led recovery . it will have to be the banks willing to lend and the people willing to borrow at competitive rates. >> let's talk a little bit about ecb. softening of the line when it comes to maybe a negative deposit rate. maybe the possibility of qwe. >> probably after last week's janet yellen, if your disable under, i think six months, i think the happiest person in the whole world was mario draghi

saying i've been trying to verbally intervene in the europe. the bundesbank, talking about negative interest rates. will we see the possibility of another rate cut? as you mentioned, quantitative easing. i've spoken to two people in the last 24 hours saying, could quantitative easing be the ecb buys u.s. treasury's? that could also adjust the dollar rate. it is interesting. take a look at the euro. one of the four countries, slovakia, that has negative 1.35,ion, and the euro at is a killer effect on their economy. something has to be done. in the last 36 hours, we have had four major people from european central bank and the bundesbank is saying, we need to do something to bring the level of the euro down. >> but they've been saying for
