the administration should deal with. >> there is no way to control the power they have in social media. we have seen the toll that can take on obama. >> this is a group that is while in, nihilistic and has a lot of money unlike its predecessor. president obama slipped on an invisibility cloak. he was rarely seen or heard after -- until after the election. he sat down for a seemingly never-ending round of interviews which aired today. >> i said at the beginning of this year that 2014 would be a breakthrough year and it was a bumpy path. a lot of the work we have done is beginning to bear fruit. it gives me an opportunity to focus on the other hard challenges that i did not always

was a lame duck at home. >> he has 10 months to work with republicans. there are areas where he -- we're unilateral action is possible. he has an opportunity, he will get it done next year. the other thing he can take off his bucket list. >> we need to find out whether him doing something like that would enrage the republican party. make no mistake, it will. whether that will prevent them from cooperating in other areas like trade. >> one reason he is making more face time with economy is the economy is finally alive. after years of anxiety, companies are hiring gdp growth is blazing, and the market is up. if the economy accelerates
5:05 pm
this way the question is what are the big broad bipartisan political implications of that. suddenly we have gdp growth at 5%. >> one we're seeing is that obama's approval rating has ticked up. it is good for hillary clinton because her fate to a large degree is tied with him. i think this made -- this would be good news for the republican party because if the economy is not in the tank they will have to come up with some kind of positive agenda that is more than just slamming obama and with that they do it by choice or circumstance, they will have to come up with something better. that is good for them heading into 2015. >> having a good economy is the only way the -- they will hold the white house. if the economy was in the toilet
5:06 pm
hillary clinton would have no chance. republicans need real policies and in the context of a good economy they would have to make that move. you cannot just be anti-democrat or in type barack obama. i have not heard any positive economic policy out of the republican party in a long time. i do not know what that would the under any circumstance including this one. >> that is where you see excitement or on the candidacy of people like jeb bush. he is not out there demonizing of obama care which is the only tool they have. >> growth is bad for the populist areas of either party. you are dealing with pessimism and fear. populist do not tend to be with the one in the driver seat.
5:07 pm
also making a big comeback is the establishment wing of the gop. jeb bush has been the subject of a lot of media since he said so. he leads the pack in a nomination contest with 23% of the vote. the real question is whether the establishment would have the upper hand, whether there will be a backlash. i do not give all that are because of discussing and a solid growing economy will have a growing position. the fact that mitch mcconnell in john boehner will get caps on please show to show they can ever.

5:09 pm
it speaks to stark racial divides around the country. my question for you given all the coverage and the intensity of emotion, do you think this story will fade in the course of 2015 or become even more heightened and controversy all? >> two weeks after michael brown's killing in the there would be this bipartisan effort to demilitarize police and they would be something positive and as so often happens it spun out into crazy partisanship. it will get worse with every police shooting swarmed over by people driving the protests. >> one of the things we did learn as this happens with shocking frequency where unarmed black kids sometimes the may be guilty or innocent at it happens. michael brown was not an

me it is a matter of time before pot and same-sex marriage or legal nationwide. it is a generational thing and when you look at the polling kids today think should be legal in the think anybody should be able to marry anybody who wants to and it is a matter of an actuarial table as it washes across the country. >> washington is not involved. they have been state initiatives and gay marriage could be national before the year is out. >> you have seen this gay marriage thing happen. it is further down the road than the pot legalization thing. game marriage has driven by generational dynamics and the pot issue will be driven by generational and political -- economic issues. >> there is not a big contingent trying to get it read down.

title to which is the pre-existing regulatory framework. >> i do not know any of these terms. i feel like a dummy. >> the democrats love regulation and the republicans hate regulation. republicans will say if you're going to regulate the internet you will do it under a new regulatory framework which they are calling title x. not the old one called title to. >> who has the advantage the white house and democrats or the newly ascendant gop? >> most of the technology community is on the side of the president. they are also wary of too much regulation. i would say that the technology is in favor of net neutrality but they want it to be done in a way that does not allow the fcc and regulators to script the internet. >> let's move on to another topic. one of the big stories was
