>> this is mike and murphy live in cleveland while we are awaiting the first public appearance of donald trump and his running mate, indiana governor mike pence. live inl be appearing downtown new york at the hilton hotel, where they will be unveiling a message together as a start this campaign together at the contender that donald trump now says was always his first choice as a running mate amid tremendous controversy as to how this pick was rolled out. 36 hours of true chaos in the trump campaign where we saw speculation about who was going to take this job as he moved from saying, i am not having

the 11th our, he was deciding if he would move forward with this pick. we have already had talking points about campaign how they will deal with this rollout. they will not focus on some of the controversies that is separated the two men. is known to be different on certain things such as free trade. he is been a public supporter of deals such as the transpacific partnership. that is something donald trump has been so strongly against. mike pence is also different on donald trump about barring muslims from this country. over the past 24 hours, as they rollout this ticket, they're not going to focus on the differences, or even try to go forward with how they are going to bridge those, but what they will focus on is what mike pence brings to the ticket in terms of being known a star board of conservative principles.

he is a record of being so solid on issues such as social conservatism. he is led the fight of gay marriage. he is let the fight on various different issues on planned parenthood. what the trump campaign thinks he brings is this serious, conservative principle, steady hand, this feeling that this is the man who could secure the country as we move forward in times of tremendous angst and difficulty both on international, as we have seen an attempted coup on turkey. they portray an image of two security to this nation. we see people appear on the stage, and perhaps, very soon they will make this joint appearance. people will be watching for what mike pence says, what the body language between the two of them will be. it is known that donald trump

was focused on someone he would be comfortable with. someone he feels he could really turn to as this will be a very grueling and vicious campaign rked by whether or not -- how are they going to convert the undecided and who they will target? with someone like mike pence, he feels he could really target those voters in key swing states like in ohio and pennsylvania? wisconsin, florida, people who feel disenchanted, people who feel they had been left out of this economic recovery and feeling left behind. he feel that mike pence can get that message across. he feels that donald trump is better able to restore prosperity across the middle class and away from the richest

that are benefiting disproportionately. he feels mike pence will fit the ticket and what he would hoping for that they can solidify the differences. hillary clinton is unveiling her own pick next week in philadelphia. we see people taking the stage. it sounds like this appearance will be eminent. she will be making her own pick the next week. she has been known for interviewing candidates like elizabeth warren, john hickenlooper. she isve still doing her she is still doing her of who can give her that solid credibility she needs. when we think about these choices, they face many of the similar issues.

and thinking about their choices, when you look at donald -- newt gingrich, chris christie, or mike pence. he went with a more conservative choice, mike pence. we see him making the least surprising move of his campaign so far. we will see if she does the same. it is interesting about mike pence is whether or not he will have that electrifying ticket. will he be able to adjust to the donald trump rhetoric, or will he positioned himself as an attack dog? donald trump has shown real strength and real weakness. a look at the past 20 four

hours, this is a moment that really got away from us -- a look at the past 24 hours, this is a moment that really got away from us. they are coming to the stage after an incredibly tumultuous 24 hours in the world with the with theurkey and terror attack in france that left 100 people dead. it is going to be a full 24 hours since donald trump made this announcement on twitter. withdraw hisd to to be indiana's to th governor. there was a noon deadline.

there are split between senior advisers. trump's kids are his key advisers. should they pick someone like a mike pence who they may not feel as much as a personal report with? with? it will be interesting how the donald trump response to them as a man, a person, his family, his personal back story, what he is about, what he is known for. he is a pick that has gone down well with

republican figures. can he bring the kind of enthusiasm we expected this point? we are coming in with cleveland might behind us, a very many day? he has rolled out a fairly unconventional conventional strategy? strategy. his aides think that it gives him a surprise of interest. there will be sports stars, celebrities, rock bands in cleveland, but when you compare that to what hillary clinton is rolling out, she has michelle obama, barack obama, joe biden, her son, her daughter, this .eavyweight establishment

be a celebrity in his own right, but -- what might pence brings in is the element of security and it will be interesting to see how the two men go off of each other. we have not seen them in public that much together. continues his public audition for his nominees, he could with newt gingrich several times in chris christie, who was always thought that that would be the earlier favorite. it is also thought that donald phone some of those rivals such as newt gingrich until after this was announced. newt gingrich said he did not know who the choice was. , until the 11th our,

he could have in fact changed his mind. has said that this was his first choice, but this will be a real test of the personal rapport of the two men. trump always hits on trade-in helping -- trump always hits on trade and making america great again. they will come to a meeting point how they want to position that message going forward. mike pence is not the most dynamic speaker or the most dynamic of men. it will be interesting to watch how they go on attack of hillary clinton, and whether or not they will position themselves to talk about her e-mail service and her personal finance history.

we have seen the polls tightening in recent days. we have a new wall street journal poll showing the swing states, the gap has closed. --lary clinton has as much has had as much as a double-digit lead. botched this sort of bp rollout that he made inroads in the wake of what we saw fbi director james comey find on her server, and how those e-mails -- how that what he found to do incredibly careless. we are waiting for donald trump and mike pence to come on stage for the first time. donald trump made an announcement yesterday on a twitter announcement. this will be their first time to set forth their message and

agenda for their country and what they are going to seek for cleveland next week is what we wait for an unconventional convention. donald trump promised it will be something like we have never seen. speakers ranging from politicians to celebrities. the event is still being finalized. donald trump's campaign has been outreaching to people for weeks that it will be something of a spectacle. mike pence, the governor of indiana, who was revealed yesterday as donald trump's by's vice presidential pick. he is a born again christian. he is a known figure of being a

part ofof evangelical this party that is so important has oneald trump w won over in recent weeks. the question will be a many new voters can he bring in? people who turned out to vote in numbers that far surpassed previous primary cycles. easy going to be a part of that movement? likes to describe his popularity as a movement. what will be interesting is whether mike pence resonates as well with those people in states

like ohio, pennsylvania, wisconsin. the states that have struggled as american manufacturing base has eroded. people who feel disenfranchised. we can now here that they are introducing donald trump and is here with mike pence. return to donald trump as he unveils his candidate. mr. trump: thank you, everybody. a great honor. but we are going to bring them back. i found a leader who will help us deliver a safe society, and a really prosperous society for all americans. pence wasvernor mike my first choice. i have admired the work he has done, especially in the state of indiana. i am going to go over some of those accomplishments in just a minute. fact that admire the he fights for the people and he is going to fight for you. he is a solid, solid person. [applause] mr. trump: governor pence served indiana with distinction in congress. he rose to leadership and served as the chairman of the entire house of republicans. number one.

he really has the skills of a highly talented executive leading the state of indiana to jobs, growth and opportunity, in spite of the relentless obstacles put in his way and every way by the obama administration. it is horrible out there. high taxes and regulations. it is out of control. mike pence is a man of honor, character, and honesty. we know that. hillary clinton is the embodiment of corruption. she is a corrupt person. what she has done with her e-mails, what gives them a so many things, and i see the ads of all the time, she is totally bought it paid for by wall street, the special interests, the lobbyists. 100%. she is crooked hillary. [applause] and i think that

while she got away with murder, in fact, it might be her greatest accomplishment. escaping the recent scandal and 33,000, and the loss of e-mails. it was in a loss. that in of itself is a major crime. other people have been paying tremendous prices for what they have done, which is stealing, compared to what happened with hillary clinton. 33,000 e-mails are missing and that is ok? did not given to the fbi? did not given to the attorney general and that is ok? wipes her server clean. that's ok? these are crimes. these are crimes. it, iw she got away with

think i understand it, but i think a lot of other people don't. but i do believe while she did not pay the price you should have paid, she is going to pay that price when november 8 rolls around. she is going to pay it at the polls. i believe it. [applause] on top of everything else, hillary may 21 $.6 million giving speeches to special interests and a short terrible of time. she's totally owned by wall street. she believes in globalism. not that she believes in it, but the people who give her all of this money believe and it. and she will believe and what ever they want her to believe. believe me, that is it. difference between crooked hillary clinton and mike pence. [applause] pence will never

be afraid to speak the name of our enemy, radical islam, radical islamic terrorism. you saw it the other day with the trucks, screaming out the window, you heard what he was screaming out of the window. you saw it in san bernardino. you saw it at the world trade center. you saw it in orlando. how horrible was that? you saw it in paris. you see it all over. and hillary is a weak person. we are the law and order the law andnd with order party, we are going to change things around. their will be respect again for law and order. [applause] mr. trump: hillary clinton's

foreign policy helped launch isis. if i make one statement, which is fine, she will take that statement and put it on a totally dishonest ads because she has a lot of money because it is given to her by the lobbies and the special interests. i see the ads on for policy talking about donald trump does a for policy. i have been a very successful business person. iraqi said, do not go into , nobody cared because i was a civilian. many many calls i have been making. i said in scotland and the u.k., that was going to happen. i was the one who predicted it and everybody said, he is wrong. itsident obama says if happens, they will get to the back of the line, which is one of the reasons they lost.

actuallyr it a win because they don't want to be told what to do. and they don't want to be told that when people pour into the country, they have to take them even if they don't have paperwork, even if they don't have no idea where they come from. and i said, then brexit is going to happen. i said the are going to break away and everybody laughed at me. the odds were 20%. and then when it happened, she took an add saying donald trump said this or that. i am the one who said it was going to happen. reporterse more fair said he was right. i appreciate it. 70% detent. -- 70% did not. mike pence will never be afraid to speak the name of our enemy. at onethink if you look of the big reasons they chose --

one of the big reasons i chose mike is for unity. so many people of said, party unity. that is from an outsider. i wilon in a landslide. it was a close. it was not close. -- it was not close. [applause] mr. trump: in the history of the republican party, the history, with 17 people running, other people ran against 1, 2, and three. for 17, and i say we because i am the messenger. almost 14 million votes, more than any other person in the history of the republican party in the primary system running for president. [applause] mr. trump: think about it. that is more than ronald reagan, who we love.

more than richard nixon, more than dwight d. eisenhower. more than the bushes. and i mean by a lot, not a little, and that is with 17 people. that means our message is unbelievable. i want to thank all of the loyal people because i have such loyal, unbelievable people and they displayed that just yesterday in cleveland, where it will be amazing. it was on display where we had this group of people, many of whom i have known. and i won't say for party unity, i will say they are wonderful people. they got crushed. and the crushed immediately because people want what we are saying to happen. they are tired of the country that has horrible trade deals, that has no borders, that has taxes that are through the roof,

highest tax nation in the world. regulations that don't allow you to start a business and destroy your business if you do so. and by the way, speaking of destroying businesses, we are going to take care of the miners and the steelworkers and put them back to work. [applause] mr. trump: so they are very tired of it, but i want to thank all of those people, the delegates that were on the different committees because boy, was that something? did we not show them something? unfortunately, the vote was very late. but we had 112. people agree with what we say, they want the wall, they want the borders, they want the things to happen. that i ame are doing so proud of, and nobody else would even make about doing

this. we will call it the johnson amendment. where he took away from the evangelicals, and i want to thank the evangelicals because without the evangelicals, i could not have won this nomination. the evangelicals have been unbelievable. i dominated with the evangelicals. a lot of people were surprised. they said he is not perfect. and you know what? going to get the job done. they are really smart. [laughter] mr. trump[applause] you'remp: and i said going to do something nobody has tried to do. it is the johnson amendment. lyndon johnson was a powerful president and you how to get things done. andas a powerful president we call it the johnson amendment t.

if you want to talk religion, you lose your tax-exempt status. he put into the platform, we are going to get rid of that horrible johnson amendment. [applause] mr. trump: we are want to let evangelicals, we are going to let christians and jews and people of religion talk without being afraid to talk. i had so many great leaders so many times of in my office. the absolute top evangelical leaders, christian leaders, jewish leaders -- believe it or not, some muslim leaders. people would be surprised to hear that. i have the top leaders in my office and i said, why is it that it you are so powerful as an individual, and yet when you get out there, you are sort of timid? and they did not know how to answer the question. it took two or three meetings until i figured. i figured it out.

one great gentleman said, we live in fear of our churches and synagogues. we live in fear that we are want to lose our tax-exempt status if we say anything that is even slightly political. and i looked out the window at trump tower and i pointed people walking down the street, and i said they have the right to speak and you don't. that means they are more powerful than you are. we need to do something about that. how did it start? how did it start? and they said it started because of lyndon johnson. and he had a problem in texas with a certain religious leader. and he did this and he got it done. so we are going to undo it religious leaders in this country, and those unbelievable people, and not because they backed me in such large numbers, but sothat religion can again have a voice because religion's

voice has been taken away, and we are going to change that, ok? [applause] mr. trump: all right. back to mike pence. so, one of the primary reasons i chose mike was i look at indiana and i won indiana big. that is where trump was going down. they agreed i would win new york and pennsylvania and all the places, but indiana was want to be the firewall. is like that the study indiana and i got to study new york and a lot of other places and i saw how nafta side by bill clinton has drained our manufacturing jobs. just drained as like we have never been drained before. nafta again find by bill clinton. nafta is the worst economic deal in history of our country. manufacturing down in some states 55%, 50%.

, 60%. i have a friend who is a great builder. all he does is build plants. the biggest in the world. i said how was business? he goes, unbelievable. really, i am surprised, why is it unbelievable? he said, what we are doing in mexico, you won't believe. mexicobuilding plants in the likes of which we have never seen. so what about this country? how much? that was the expression. not much. mexico, he said he had never seen anything like it, it is incredible. folks, we are going to reverse it and bring our jobs back to this country. we can't be the stupid people anymore. [applause] mr. trump: ok?

and he was better than a consultant. costst a report that millions of dollars. but not for me. it costs other people millions, other campaigns. i will take you what, a guy like this, it is better than anyone you can hire to do a report. standpointsay from a that he was sad about it, it was fact. said, i have never ever seen anything like it. if you look, ford is building massive plants there instead of michigan. we want them to build them in michigan. and you know that i know how to do it. it is so easy. they are not going to take advantage of us without attribution.

going to do that to us without retribution. there are consequences. those consequences will keep companies in our country. everyone here knows what the consequences are, because i will not say that because i am more interested right now and mike. this is the primary reason i wanted mike other than he looks very good. other than he has an incredible family, credible wife and family -- incredible wife and family. karen is amazing. [applause] mr. trump: highly respected. easily ine won very indiana. indiana's unemployment rate has fallen. 8.4% when he was -- was governor.

but it has fallen to 5.4%. the labor force has increased by more than 180,000 jobs. you have to understand, i have gone to a lot of things. and every time i have statisticians. i say give me the stats. and they are always bad. down, down, down. here is somebody who was gone up. private-sector job growth is up jobs.e than 147,000 that is very unusual. governor pence balanced the budget. can you imagine a balanced budget? in budget is so out of wack this country we don't know what to do. he balanced the budget. they don't know what that means. governor pence balanced the

budget and produce a surplus and maintains a $2 billion reserve fund in the state of indiana. theiralso rated aaa, bonds. very few states have them. the best that you can get. aaa. indiana was recently recognized by chief executive magazine as the number one state in the midwest for business. number one. there are approximately 34,000 fewer hoosiers on unemployment now than they were when mike pence took office. so, you have fewer hoosiers, fewer people from indiana. besides that, bobby knight, my friend who really did help me, if you want to reference bobby knight in indiana, we love bobby knight, but he agrees with

everything i am saying. he loved the governor. indiana has the second-most unemployment rate in the nation. nobody isns, where fighting for the better site i am. the veterans have been left behind. if you remember a few months ago, hillary clinton said, they are doing much better. is doing much better. people are dying in line waiting for doctors. they can't even see a doctor. it is a scandal. look at what is happening with the va in arizona. just look at what is happening with the veterans administration hospital. it is corrupt. it is incompetent. it is a scandal. and hillary clinton thought it was just fine. and boy am i going to win big with the veterans. we know that for a fact. [applause] 2.4%rump: so, it is now

for veterans. in 2013 when mike pence took office, the rate for veterans was 6.7% and 31st in the nation, one of the bad ones. now it is almost the best. got them jobs. indianapolis is right second in top 10 metro areas for young college graduates. that is a great thing. mike worked hard on that. he was telling me that was not easy. under his leadership, indiana enacted the largest k-12 education funding initiative in the country. your balancing budgets and giving more money to education. is and that a great thing? -- isn't that a great thing? indiana has the largest school choice program and the nation. 's school choice is where --

school choice is where it's at. he enacted the largest income tax cut in the nation. think of that, we are cutting taxes in balancing the budget. reform,th corporate tax just about number one in the country. cnbc rank indiana first in the nation for its infrastructure. so with all of these cuts and budgets,ese balancing we are spending more on education and infrastructure is kept up. do with themuch to builder -- i build infrastructure. i know how to build a wall. i know how to build infrastructure. it is very interesting. won theuilding ,i

right to have the old post office building on pennsylvania avenue by the white house. that is one of the most sought after projects in the history of the gsa. i really like what has happened. we are going to have an opening very soon. we are under budget, a year ahead of schedule, and the quality of the work is even better than we originally were going to do. [applause] explained and, when i to a government representatives that we are under budget and ahead of schedule, they almost fell over because he never heard those words ever. happened toe what

indiana, which was having tremendous problems, when i see what happened to indiana under mike's work. also his predecessor did a great job by the way who is now at purdue. when i see what happened with respect to the numbers, the state, and everything else, that to me was probably the single most important thing. it is something that has not happened in this whole country. the turnaround and the strength of indiana has been incredible. and i learned that when i campaigned there. and i learned that when i won that stay in a landslide. and i learned that when governor pence, under tremendous pressure, endorsed somebody else, but it was more of an endorsement for me, if you remember. he talked about trump and he

talked about ted, who is a good guy will be talking in the convention. i said, who did he endorse? even though he was under pressure, because i am so, outside of the establishment, it was the single greatest non-endorsement i have ever had in my entire life. i will take it. [applause] mr. trump: so with that, i would like to introduce a man who i truly believe will be outstanding in every way and will be the next vice president of the united states, governor mike pence. thank you. thank you, everybody. i come to this moment deeply humbled. grateful for my wonderful wife, karen and her three credible kids. my three credible kids. incredible kids. let me say, having had the privilege to spend time with this man and his family out of the limelight, i know what all of america will soon know even better --these are good people. donald trump is a good man and he will make a great president of united states of america. [applause] donald trump understands the frustrations in the hopes of american people

like no leader since ronald reagan. the american people are tired. thate tired of being told this is as good as it gets. we are tired of having politicians in both parties washington d.c. tellis we will get to those problems tomorrow. as ronald reagan said, we are tired of being told that a little intellectual elite in a far distant capital can plan our lives better for us than we can plan them for ourselves. donald trump gets it and he understands the american people. [applause] i truly am deeply humbled to be at his site today. when i got this call last wednesday, i could only think of the ancient question -- who am i, oh lord? and who is my family? that you have brought us to this point?

let me try to answer that question for a few minutes. people who know me well know i am a pretty basic guy. i am a christian, a conservative, and a republican, in that order. [applause] while i am currently having the pillage of serving the state i love, i am just a small town boy. grew up in southern indiana with a big family in a cornfield in the backyard. like donald trump, my grandfather immigrated to this country. in many ways i grew up with a front row seat to the american dream. i watch my mom and dad build everything that matters, a family, a business, and a good name. the heroes of might do for john f. kennedy and the reverend dr. martin luther king jr.. i started in politics and the other party. when i came of age, i was inspired by the ideals and

eloquence of our 40th president and i became a republican. the most important thing in my life is that 31 years ago i married the girl of my dreams, karen pence, who will make a great second lady of united states of america. [applause] gov. pence: and while this office is an extraordinary office that wishes to aspire the highest role i will ever play, it is d-a-d, and i am a proud fathers of a college student, a graduate turned writer, and an united states marine. [applause] gov. pence: you know, iran for congress before the code can revolution led by newt gingrich in 1994. i was not successful.

by the time i got elected to washington d.c., sometimes i felt like i was elected after it was over. from almost my first day in congress, i found myself battling the big spenders in both political parties. whether opposing no child left behind, prescription entitlement, wall street bailout, i thought every single day for taxpayers and fiscal responsibility. when i was a member -- responsibility when i was a member of the congress of the united states. after the republicans lost the congress in 2006, i served in leadership. we fought back against the nancy pelosi congress and opposed obamacare, and opposed the tax increases, and opposed their cap and trade and i was part of the team that won the congress back theemocratic -- won congress back from democratic

control. all that happened before i went back home again to indiana. i answer this call for two reasons. first, because i know from first-hand experience that strong republican leadership can bring about real change. just like we have seen in the hoosier state. because hillary clinton must never become president of united states of america. [applause] gov. pence: now, on the first point, i know what i am talking about. in indiana, we prove every day you can build a growing economy on a balanced budget, low taxes, while making investments in

education, roads, and health care. indiana is a state that works, and it does. [applause] gov. pence: indiana works because republican principles. work every time you put them into practice. today we have a $2 billion surplus in the highest rating in the nation. governor,ve became businesses have created more than 150,000 new jobs and we have more hoosiers going to work than ever before in the 200 year history of the great state of indiana. that is what republican leadership gets you. heart, thatrom my is what the no nonsense leadership of donald j trump will bring to washington d.c. [applause] gov. pence: elections are about choices. elections are about choices and i joined this ticket because the choice cannot be more clear, the

stakes cannot be higher. americans can choose a leader who will fight to make america safe and prosperous again and bring real change, or we can elect someone who literally personifies the failed establishment and washington d.c. obama andof barack hillary clinton's policies have weekend america's place in the world and stifled the economy. terrorist attacks at home and abroad, grim and heartbreaking scenes from france just a few short days ago. the attempted coup in turkey, all attest to a world spinning apart. history teaches us that weakness arouses evil. hillary clinton and barack obama's foreign policy of leading from behind, moving redlines, painting reset with a

resurgent brush and the rise of isis is a testament to this truth of history, and we must bring a change to america's stand in the world. have four more years apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends. america needs to be strong for the world to be safe. on the world stage, donald trump will lead from strength, he will rebuild the arsenal of democracy, stand with our allies and hunt down and destroy the enemies of our freedom. donald is committed to repeal obama care, lock, stock, and barrel. hillary clinton looks at obamacare is a good start and want to take bernie sanders down the socialized cap. donald trump supports and all of the above strategy and will end the war on coal, hillary clinton actually promised an energy plan that will close american coal mines and put coal miners out of work. where donald trump wants to build a wall and temporarily suspend immigration from countries come from countries compromised by terrorism, hillary clinton plans on ignoring the supreme court reimposed executive amnesty and would increase our refugee program by more than 500%. where donald trump will appoint justices like the lace antonin scalia a, who will uphold our

constitution, hillary clinton will appoint supreme court justices who will legislate from a bench, abandon the sanctity of life, and we write our second amendment. ourvery american who shares convictions, i say to you, join us. ,or the sake of our security for the sake of our prosperity, for the sake of the supreme court that will never turn it back on our god-given liberties, let's come together, as a party, and a people, and a movement to make america great again, and that day begins when donald trump becomes the 45th president of united states of america! thank you for the honor! thank you for your support and god bless the night states of america!
