all moving forward. >> they kind of exercise things in waves? i used to do step aerobics. >> it still exists. >> thanks morgan for working her muscles all day. way to go silvano and brad. nbc sports will present six spartan races this season. it's time for favourite.right now. i think it's over to melissa lee. . >> life on the nasdaq markets site, fork city, time's square, i'm melissa lee, this is favourite money. shares are moving higher, netflix says it now has more than 50 million subscribers. we'll have the latest from the ceo reed hastings coming out. a blowout, chipotle shares surging. i couldn't resist that, surging as the restaurant comp sales are greater than expected our
5:01 pm
traders tonight, it's not that funny, guys. the stock hit a record high in the after hours session dom shoins us. >> i lick the burrito comment. revenues 1.05 become. wall street was looking for 1 mint million. who is impressive about this beat remember they raised prices, traffic continues to drive in these stores. so they're same comparable store sales increased by over 17% during this past quarter partially because of the increase in prices, they say because of increased traffic in the stores some interesting
5:02 pm
highlights off that the company did say some customers switched tear joyce to steak after the expenses went into effect. so, in es dens sense you have chipotle saying they did beat on bottom numbers and sales numbers. they had, you foe the price increases overall sill it's going to check offer sometime in the next few minutes here. we will bring you the details. for right now, the stock tells you the story. it's up to a record high in the after hours trade. >> thanks so much, dom. we should note since april 28, stock is up. guy adami. >> it is an unbelievable quarter going from steak to chechen. mar jens improve it's up 17.3%. what does it mean for the stock?
5:03 pm
you think chipotle would have a short interest in it's ridiculous for a company with a 35 multiple. i don't think you chase it here. we liked the name for a while. i think jack in the box continues to be the way the play it downstream you made pe choose. i'm buying jack. >> does this alleviate concerns about the consumer if they are willing to pay more for their burritos and others? >> i hope so. i don't know if they are taking a share from everybody else. it's a phenomenal quarter, though. i was surprised by their lack of short interest. so people got it right. i wish i were one of them. sadly, i don't own any of them. >> the only way the company trades at a 45 current or next year is by having a fan base or a customer not caught up in any cyclical consumer pressure. in fact, that's the imageic here. these guys have store return
5:04 pm
levels above anybody in the industry. if you think they can continue to grow at these levels, it's crazy there is no way i would touch a number in this space. when mcdonald got beat up, to me it only highlights the values in a mcdonald's which isn't lying, two different busy models and levels of their growth play. at this point you have to assume this price level and the increases will weigh on them at some point. >> valuation is a question timplt forward pmplt emplt is 46. if you look at starbucks, it's 29. panera is 21. >> those are high multiple guys if their space, by the way. >> it looks like the number of stores they are planning on opening, that's a good slip. >> almost 200 stores the growth is there. >> all negties have been out the stock has not broken down. it's held the 50 day. for point of reference, which
5:05 pm
tim says i wouldn't go out and buy i.t. has to hold the 623 level. that's the level it needs to hold on a technical basis. >> is this good news? does the mean that starbucks, you are in, right, should command a higher market? >> i'm a big fan of starbucks, i think they are not totally relying on one business model. i think cmg has a very different examiner base tan manying dodgeal's does. i think ul patally you will get to a place where the growth will be tough. cmg's growth is coming from new york city. the business client el is going to paint mover money that is not going to work everywhere. >> this menu pricing is supposed to be a sec half story. i don't think it's priced in yet, now, having said that. >> you don't think it's priced at the end of april? >> if the stock continues to move higher. >> at this point.
5:06 pm
>> it did hold 623. i think in the next couple of days you can get more gain and squeeze more juice out of this. >> i don't leak it here. i think to your point, for the long boat guys back in the beginning of pay when the stock was trading i think at $500, a 641 price target. >> we have more on johnson & johnson. let's go to dom chued a headquarters. >> from burritos. johnson & johnson board of directors authorized a $5 billion share per purchase program. the company said there were purchases made at management's discretion from time to time on the open market. the repurchase program has no time limit and may be suspended for periods or discontinued at any time anyways that the headline here is you have another big company, this time johnson & johnson, a dow component, saying they will put in place a $5 million share program. back over to you. >> thanks, dom chu, tim seymour,
5:07 pm
a reason to be excited? >> i think so. it's an impeccable balance sheet. i think the dollar strength. a year ago, people were worried about multi-nationals and dollar weakness so in other words repatriateing those numbers back will actually be a tail wind for these guys. these to me is one of the great multi-national stories. >> let's go to netflix t. conference call is under way, michael past over has an under rating on the stock it's good to have you with us. you expected better than expected results in this quarter. what stand out? how do you get to underperform given this quarter? >> what stands out, they continue to grow domestically. that's a beggar part of the growing story than the international growth and they keep growing at a decent clip 570,000 netflix subscribers.
5:08 pm
you think thigh will run out eventually. they don't. they keep growing. i think they keep growing because they keep offering better and better content. so they're doing a fine job at a service compelling for consumers. the reason i have a low price target is i hate to use a bad pun, recommend is the new black. lock at tear cash flow. it is significantly lower than their net income they're being valued on an ets basis. i think investors are blissfully looking through the fact they generated negative cash flow over the last then quarters. yet, they're being rewarded as if that's never going to reverse. that negative cash flow is an investment in content that has to hit the income statement in the future. when it does, i think earnings will be severely depressed. i think they will not grow earnings the way people expect. i think the stock price is going to come if pretty hard. i think my number is close to what will happen. >> if i can read through the
5:09 pm
leans, i believe there is a huge rehafrtings prem number in the stock. but for one misstep which the market punished him for, he has done absolutely everything right, the subscriber growth will continue at some point he will be able to monetize it better or more appropriately. is that true? how much of a reed hastings premium is in the netflix right now? >> i think that reed is a very capable guy, a very visionary guy. he is trying to rebuild netflix and hbo's image, so far, that's doing very well, yes, the stock should have a premium. that guy really is talented. i think some of the things he does investors should look at him and skew like talking about contribution profit which is revenue minus cost of goods minus marketing. he is ignoring $ 70 million of tech spending, which is something leak $6 a share. you can't ignore tech spending. as he grows, subscribers in other countries, he has even more tech spending.
5:10 pm
he talks about 30% korns contribution margin. he ignores the technology spend to get to that mar general i think the street has bought into his ling go. i think he is being rewarded and over the long run investors will get locked. >> it sounds likes you are saying reed is pulling the wool over everybody else's eyes. are you the one actually seeing the truth of this situation here with fet flicks stock? >> melissa, i swear to you, it's like the may tricks. i see it. i can't believe the ret of you don't. i can't believe it. >> he is right the market will prevail. michael as always good to see you and talk with you always, he makes fair points. he has been making them a long time. what do you do with the stock? >> in this land, i am probably out of my almost but i will say
5:11 pm
the international expansion is where i think these guys can lever the scale and all these investments and where they exist the business to be cash positive in the fourth quarter. so if one of michael's big question is these guys will turn it around and can ininvestor so much. i think they will start to do that. to me, there is no disputeing these guys are a secular shifrt and they're not getting cable as much as they're getting netflix. i buy that. i don't buy the valuation. >> hoo i prices for the new subscriber, the second half is raising prices for everyone, why wouldn't you karen as a fet flicks user pay 16 instead of 10 or whatever the rates are? >> i would. the value is definitely there. like tim on the valuation basis to get there. one thing ability reed hastings, i was skeptical to make it to a content provider. i to the, no way does that work. he's done a great job with that, too. >> if you paid a premium so far
5:12 pm
domestically, there is a lot of radio. >> you foe they have to spend more in the fourth quarter? >> i heard michael say that. we bought the stock based on this. momentum seems to be flattening a tad now in the stock on technic also. i think with international growth there is a lot more room upside for this as well. >> we will continue tracking this call. meantime the pep giant has acquired beaver to announce a deal. can tim cook deliver for freet tomorrow? that's coming up. hatsbrought shares under pressure after this morning's weaker tan expected earnings report, can 3d prempbted ponys be the answer? we have an interview with the hazard of ceo. that's next. .
5:13 pm
5:14 pm
5:15 pm
hasb roh oro out with earni matching eps stills falling short of revenues.
5:16 pm
joining us is brian gold president and ceo of hasbro. good to speak to you again. >> hi, guys. >> you had strength in the boys demonstration, which many analysts expected up 32% for the quarter. the miss was the gains down 12% and preschool down 6.6%. what happened with these two soft areas? >> if you look at the games pos for the quarter was up double digits. our inventories were down double digits. we all foe gains are second half of the year focused. we have a number of new initiatives including a customizable monopoly, for the first time, people can play monopoly the way they want with all their own photographs from their social media sites. so as we talk about cuss somization, building that into
5:17 pm
the games business, we feel good about where our business is us the far year-to-date. >> last time you brought along transformers doi toys it was the premier. the transformers rollout was delayed if europe as well as south america because of the world cup. does that mean third quarter in terms of transformer toys for you? >> historically, third quarter and fourth quarter have been bigger for point of view years over the last three movies, we certainly expect that here. we had a great result thus far with transformers. we are excited about the global box office in the nearly 8, $900 million. again as we go forward, we launched in brazil just now and other countries most world cup and we feel very good about transformers result. . >> let's talk about this 3d printing my little. ponys what can you do?
5:18 pm
>> it's about getting creative makers, a whole area of customer, consumers and audiences the cans to make the products for the lands they love. in this case, we are allowing five artists to create their versions of my little pony and lou fans to go online and change the art if real time and allow them to customize and create and order their very own version it could but nikkei or one of a kind version and have sameways print it for them and send it to their homes. >> we will leave it there. thank you. >> brian golder the president and ceo of hasbro. the stock was lower? >> same valuation as matel. basically the same dividends. effectively the metrics, a big short interest there in hasbro. you have seen the stock have a nice run to the upside it gets
5:19 pm
down to 50. you boy it with both hands. >> not only do you buy the transformers, you also have a course back-to-school and christmas and holiday. >> the stock is priced lackluster enthusiasm. again, it was clearly pointed out some had the calendar fell. i believe that. few look as guy said support for the stock with this international expansion, they're moving entertainment. i think it looks interesting here. you have to stop yourself 48, 49. >> coming up next, den nit gartman rolls out the shares in russia him could it be points for another big move? we are playing a little take your position ahead of tomorrow's news. ...for the year. hi. sorry.

5:23 pm
. >> we are back with "fast money," i'm eamon javers in washington where the subsummitt is putting out a new report critic allege of a number of banks and hedge funds. let me get to the details of what it is they're saying. a senate subcommittee is saying two global banks and 13 hedge funds dodged taxes in 15 years. they say a financial product created a fiction that the hedge funds controlled these assets and traded in accounts to avoid long-term capital gains or guarantee capital gains. they have avoided leverage limits under scrutiny stifel nicolaus said it has been fully compliant with all applicable
5:24 pm
laws. barclays is fully compliable. the reg fund says it has taken action. it has been appropriate under current law and the hedge fund said it was engaged in a lawful financial instrument. so, guys, a lot here to take over, including the subject of a big hearing on capitol hill tomorrow. >> let me make this clear, they're not saying they broke the law the firms don't like them to do? >> that's right t. committee is saying that they were age dodge taxes be i the hedge funds opening these options account at the bank and instead of this being a separate investment by the hedge fund, it managed all the trade, conducted the trading a at this time around was responsible for the profit and loss and wasn't an investment, it was a trading vehicle. they should have paid taxes as if they were trading instead of a longing-term capital gain. >> thank you so much. i don't know, investigate something where they didn't break the law?
5:25 pm
>> that's what the alternatives are that's the whole point. it's a synthetic way and it's tax efficient. that's why you do it. >> for this kind of investigating, do something about it if you don't like it. >> i don't know why they can't get to that end point of the tax law. >> things they don't like you to do but are ill local. >> that do things that are tax efficient. >> how about if they had a hearing with senators and said we don't like that you guys. >> investigate everything. >> you can't get anything done if your business. >> and a hedge fund two credit limits that's up to the bank to decide the bank should make that decision. >> we have to get to the late effort in russia and ukraine, pressuring vladmir putin to allow safe access as to malaysia flight 17.
5:26 pm
so what is the best way to trade renewed tensions out of russia? dennis, great to have you with us. >> mel, always good to be here. thank you. >> i want to get the backdrop to all this that is what do you this i? do you think things will get worse before they get better? what we see since the cell phoneth when the plane was down was basically the s&p 500 is flat t. bond market though has moved higher, the beginning of july we take it back to there, the cltc is up 4.5% or so. what do you decide? >> it's pretty impressive that stocks completely disregard water going on in the geopolitical circumstance. the sparkt wants to go higher. it's been going higher it will probably go higher. everybody that bets on the circulation voting on stocks is proven wrong, every time i think it's going to happen, it doesn't, stocks are driven by
5:27 pm
the feds and earnings. the bond market i think cares a little about what's going on and athink energy cares and clearly the grain stockmarkets care. a lot of people bid up wheat which i found almost comical on expectations the situation in the ukraine was going to cause a tur tailment of wheat exports, which i thought you were going to get an increase, ukraine needs that money, it has excess wheat with which to export at the same time the bond market wants to go higher. money is moving away from europe and it's moving to the united states, it's going to park if debt security. >> hold on, let's go back to the bond trade here, can you still be long equities? >> i think the two don't have to move in contravention to one
5:28 pm
another, they can, in fact, mof in convention to one another. >> is that the way you see it? >> i think that's the way you have to see it at this point. i think the way to play it the easiest way, i'm a spreader. i grew up on the board of trade. so i'm always a buyer of one thing, a seller of something else, in a bold move you want to own the bond market. you want to own 30 years, be short of the ten year. you want to own the knob spread the value is as larger on a 30 year instrument than the ten. you want to own the back end and be short the front end of the curve at this point. >> you mentioned gold cared. if i told you given the sell-off prior if gold there will be a plane shot out of the air over russia, crazy tensions now with israel and palestine, i would have said gold would be up minimum 75 bucks and can't get out of its own way, do you think it cares about what's going on? >> in the old days, exactly,
5:29 pm
gold would have been 50, $60 bid. it is interesting, somebody is holding gold down, i don't know what it is or who it is. as everybody foes on this show, i tend to watch gold not in dollar terms but in terms of euros. i am quite bearish of the euro at this point. i must say, i can't believe it hasn't dried up dramatically, gold is doing quite well in terms of euro. we are trading right around 975 euros to the ounce of gochld a movement above a to you would be impressive. i would have thought we would have gotten that given those circumstances, ib will have to admit. gold did not go up if dar terms 30 or 40 euros. it's somewhat surprising to me. the trend for the last several months has clearly been in favor of euro terms in gol. that's been working very well. >> dennis, good to see you.
5:30 pm
den nit gartman of the gartman letter we have seen so many many stocks pull back since the 17ing. take a look at key waves the index is down 8%. is there something you would buy? >> kiwi the index is russia it should be core rated to the mark ro, i don't think the consumer is deteriorateing as rapidly as the macro, they're dollarized the economy in many sense, the lows that we hit in the first run dwoun down, around 2950. i think the stock trades to at least 28 here. i think both are interesting. i would not be running back into it. a couple companies, a big cellular play is up small from
5:31 pm
where it was prerussia. i say on thursday you need to stayyear clear of russia and germany stays clear on. the latest headlines fresh from the call, ceo reed haftd hasteings, that's next. why herbal life shares some think could fall 20% by the end of this week. stick around, back if two. of the services your vehicle needs. .

5:35 pm
forefront is what is driving netflix' stronger than directed earnings growth. hastings says he sees a global trend which netflix is able to capitalize on. >> we seen really is a tremendous option of on demand viewing. consumers around the world, whether argumenty fa, brazil, fempb land the up kwchl, it's been really quite consistent. so there with is some accelerators we talked about with the smart tv, but there is problem for the better symbol how strong this on demand fe tom na during the world cup we would see a dropoff around the world, particularly brazil. >> there are some serious questions about netflix' plans to launch in coin, which hastings dodged, the ceo says it's early, it's a massive potential market. they made it clear they see
5:36 pm
plvsh plenty of room across and in the u.s. they reiterate the ft neutrality propos proposal. he hates to see them black out some sites. addressing content costs that, i say there is value in the original content in the u.s., there is value around the world and, pacific, they will be shifting more of their original content investment because of the original playoff. >> let's talk about the payoff. netflix, 10% of that will get spent on the original content. that is driving things. is that a concern? >> of course. that's a concern. one of the main concerns for the bears literally $250,000 in the stock.
5:37 pm
it will come home to roost. >> i guess the magnitudes they see growth the stockholders will continue to be rewarded. >> as much as this quarter. there is other stuff coming out. i don't know a thinking about bo jack horseman, i'm looking at the roster, hemlock grove ul patly, despite the few content which should be cash gen rative, there are comforts, the european expansion is what everybody wants to see, no question to worry about. >> time for pops and drops, cbs outdoor, karen. >> enough to deal, ben wagner another outdoor company with great locations, they will be acquireing them. it should be a treat. good deal. >> pop for king tij tal up 3%. >> it went from 17 to 23 in a
5:38 pm
couple days. you have a lot of analysts upgraded the name the report at the beginning of august the technical short covering. >> chinese internet stocks are getting all time highs kissing 200. 60% growth expected. 30 times multiple. where are you going to do this? this is very interesting. >> drop for bb & t. >> headline audited by hud. they missed stills so at this point do i think it's viable? it pierced all of its moving averages. i think you got to wait until it holds about 37-and-a-halfish. >> we got a pop for old school prison stripes. the popularity of the orange is the new black sponsored a michigan gal to chanening from orange to classic stripes t. sheriff for the sag faw county jail claims this isn't a fashion statement.
5:39 pm
prisoners spend time on group crews and they don't want confusion between fans and real inmates who dress like this the people on orange is the new black. >> ever been in the sla him? first of all, juve records are sealed. >> i feel orange. >> there you go. >> totally not flattering. >> let's get another check on chipotle, hitting record levels, dom chu on the call joins us with the latest. >> it's wrapped up. giving the analysts optimism about the stock. of course, you talk about the people short in this earnings report. still it's interesting, they did speak about the substitution effect. you want to place something from cfo jack hartung, steak price did go up they did see some substitution people opting for chicken. listen to what the qfo said.
5:40 pm
>> because of the recent inflation in beef, beef prices will remain elevated for the foreseeable future. state prices were raised and chicken prices raised about 5%. we expected some customers would trade down from steak to chicken and we have, in fact, seen some shift from steak to chicken. >> that's one substitution. they said they will take more risks into other parts of the market they may be wouldn't have otherwise. because they've had such succession in every part of the market so far. back over to you guys. >> still holding onto the after hours margin. i would imagine they aren't that different. >> i don't know how much steak went up. they raised chicken along with i it? >> you got to come to me on
5:41 pm
this. >> i don't know, just a guess. chicken prices go higher according to our executive producer. >> thank you. still ahead, apple is set to have earnings report tomorrow. they take tear positions ahead of the release. that's next. .

5:44 pm
apple reports third quarter earnings after the bell followed a busy second quarter and head phones and is seven tr one stock split. let bring back financial senior tech an a lift colin gillis. great to see you. >> great to be here. >> what are you expecting? >> here's the thing with apple. they extracted the first billion on the smartphones sold. you have to be concerned unit shipments are growing slower than the market. 7% in the march quarter. this is an industry growing at 25%. the second concern is they're weak in the services layer. the 66s will try to address that. >> and the ibp deal. >> right. >> the third bit is all the pet tricks are slowing. it's the law of large numbers so
5:45 pm
particularly for the june quarter in front of the refresh. you have people holding off purchasing. i'm looking for a pullback. >> you are looking for a pullback. in terms of the second half of the year, we are looking out towards new hardware, trourks more clarity when it comes to the ibm apple deal it could bolster equipment services. >> i think a lot is baked if. the iwatch, a product no pricing will sell 50 million units in year one. >> do you price that? >> there is a lot of talk about it. i think there is 10 million units and plenty of reports to sell 30, 40, 50 million. >> colin it's still iphone ipad,
5:46 pm
if any company has the ability to knock it out of the park, when you talk about wearables, people will be automatically drawn, it will be on everyone's kids list, everyone's christmas lift. don't you think apple leads? >>le does lead, it's that kind of commentary that makes me cautious the wearable discussion may be underwelling? >> are you scentable about the category? do you think people will want wearables for christmas? >> we have to see a. piece of me is skeptical, 20 million, 30 million, those are significant number numbers am i skeptical? yes, i don't think that will happen. >> let me ask you something. you are near the low on the street. are you not the lowest. where is it? a multiple, an earnings? >> we had multiple expansion.
5:47 pm
the stock is up twiefr%. the earnings didn't change. it's pure multiple expansion. karen you know for a tech company like apple. they can change quickly. for a value play, you have to be careful they get behind the curb and the land stap could change. >> guy adami, he said apple will hit its highs, what happens after a hits in. >> i think they may not agree with this. they come out with a quart ter knee jerk is a speak higher. it will be the devil will be in the details in terms of what happens from there. i can see this company reporting, a spike in the name. a sell-off in the ensueing day. we will find out in the next 40 hours. >> i am long. that's my bottom line. i don't know if it's this quarter or not. ultimately, i want to be here.
