6:01 pm
all-clear sign when you think a troubled business is ready to turn around, you need to buy its stock before the bad news come in and that's the take away from today's fantastic action the nasdaq jumped. the best examplelook at the semiconductor stocks we have seen a remarkable reversible in this leadership group. the semis let us down last quarter. the lynch pin move is micron with a chommon theme, you can't wait for the price of d rams to bottom these analysts have been upgrading and they are absolutely right
6:02 pm
the stock market is a forecast machine. people are buying micron hand over fist because they expect the company to be in a better place in the second half of the year especially since micron is selling for four times the earnings the cheapest stock in the book there is one problem, though before we get to the second half where can he newe need to play through the first half buyers will be able to look past that have they steeled themselves in number cuts, or will they panic and stopping this entire rally in the tracks. that is the dilemma. first of all, why did micron get obliterated in the first place supply and demand. particular a ton of supply with lack of demand
6:03 pm
basic building blocks of the new economy. just like paper and chemicals to the basic building blocks of the old economy. those comments acted as an accelerant sending the whole tech sector into a tail spin the intensefication trade war with china didn't help demands seemed to peak just when new supply was come can online to build new facttories and when that happens, that is when stocks got crushed from tight to glut the stock did not react well so why the heck is it rebounding like crazy management told us business is
6:04 pm
awful. aren't these bullish analyst jumping the gun? this rally is about a turn in the second half. if you believe the trade war will simmer down and fed chief will hold down on the interest rates, then an expansion can start. it is not gun jumping if you listen to what micron ceo told cnbc this morning in las vegas. >> what's important to understand is the content within the smartphones, the amount of memory, the amount of flash that is needed because of multiple cameras and aig features so yes, near terms
6:05 pm
micron continues to execute well on its plans >> what a great interview and that is exactly what we want to hear get this last night chip maker with a lot of cell phone exposure pre announced a shortfall yet the stock rallied today. you have to buy ahead of time, and that franchise is totally in tact what about broadcom? then there is nvidia cryptocurrency mining. remember, nvidia couldn't figure out whether the customers were using the chips for gaming or crypto mining. that excess inventory is being worked off too, so the stock is bouncing analysts put out a note and the
6:06 pm
note argued you would be gun jumping if you bought now, and that caused a one day sell off by the time we know for sure that business has turned, you will have missed the move. i like nvidia here one reason i believe their adoption will be far more rapid than wall street expects the strength in those areas will be obscure or one about my other faves? land's machines help manufacture all of the machines in glut mode this stock always bottoms more i don't expect this quarter to be anything to write home about. the surge plus 5.2% because of the current quarter seems odd. but it is what you have to do to
6:07 pm
get ahead of next year's numbers. this move is all about anticipation or ant ici-pation. sure enough, this morning the largest home builder in america reported a shortfall yet stock ended up rocketing 8%. in the conference call, rates have improved. housing accounts for 10% of the economy but punches well above its weight i want jay to let it happen. i am sure some of you are thinking wait a second, jimbo how the heck do we think about a
6:08 pm
recovery it is more complicated than that during the fourth quarter we saw a real break down. i think the fed has cooled just enough that they can afford to take a breather when it comes to more rate hikes. all of these stocks more room to rally. if you wait for ironclad proof that a trouble business has turned itself around, you will miss most of the upside from that turn. that's why these remarkable rallies like stoics like micron make sense and the next time stocks drop, think about this group, it has bottomed and the rally is just beginning. let's take calls i want to start with, how about marcy in ju marcy in new jersey. >> caller: thanks for taking my call i am your loyal fan.
6:09 pm
what is your forecast for boeing considering its recent precipitous drop yet yesterday delivered 806 blaynes. will its stock rise like a rocket ship if there is a deal with china or other variables. >> the way for the chinese to be able to come to the peace table and get things rolling is to say we want double the number of planes that would be the signal i say and buy buy buy to the greatest manufacturing in america, boeing. nancy in oregon. >> caller: hi, cramer, i love your show. with altria down their biggest move with chronos marijuana company. do you think they are a buy or not and why?
6:10 pm
>> no. i think you should be buying consolation brands chronos is a good company, it is number two to number one which is canopy. >> wow how about these viewers? today's theme is you have to buy ahead of the bad news and you can't wait until the all clear today's drop in consolation. i will find out if the decline of corona and modelo is a buy. has the sun set on the greatest crater of any company? and canopy growth is surging checking in with the ceo stay with cramer
6:11 pm
>> announcer: don't miss a second of "mad money." follow @jimcramer on twitter have a question? tweet cramer, #madtweets send jim an e-mail to madmoney@cnbc.com or give us a call at 1-800-743-cnbc miss something head to madmoney.cnbc.com. to the spark cash card from capital one. i earn unlimited 2% cash back on everything i buy. and last year, i earned $36,000 in cash back. which i used to offer health insurance to my employees. what's in your wallet?
6:12 pm
6:13 pm
hey, batter, batter, [ crowd cheers ] like everyone, i lead a busy life. but i know the importance of having time to do what you love. at comcast we know our customers' time is valuable. that's why we have 2-hour appointment windows, including nights and weekends. so you can do more of what you love. my name is tito, and i'm a tech-house manager at comcast. we're working to make things simple, easy and awesome.
6:14 pm
okay what the heck just happened to the stock of consolation brand stz? they have a bunch of wine and liquor brands, down more than 12%. consolation sales and earnings both came in higher than expected what really crushed the stock was the guidance slashing the forecast down to 92930. all i can say is ouch.
6:15 pm
as consolation stock has gone down 32%, these levels too cheap to ignore. let's check in with the outgoing ceo. welcome back to "mad money." >> rob, i am going to come to you first, magnitude of decline, an overreaction given the fact that you made the quarter? >> yeah, number one, the quarter was a great quarter and the total reaction was to change in our guidance which was really from 9.35 to 9.50. the guide i can't think that yo included 25 cents that needed to be deducted from the guide
6:16 pm
the change of our guidance is also totally a function of i would say a disappointing or our anticipating a disappointing year on the wine and spirit side and i think even more specifically, okay, where the disappointment is is in the low end of our wine business and that's our portfolio of wines that are under $11 basically which that segment of the wine industry is performing very poorly. it is something that we identified actually several months ago and we said that we were pursuing strategic alternatives for that segment of our business and in fact we are and expect to come to some conclusions relative to that in the near future. so i guess i would just conclude by saying the business, the
6:17 pm
growth, even the margins are 100% in tact except for as i said some disappointment in the low end of the wine business we did have a little bit of margin delusion on the beer side which was really due to a one time expense in the third quarter. and other than that, we are expecting margins to remain flattish at the very high level of roughly 39%. >> okay. let me ask bill. bill on the conference call, he is talking about in beer, corona extra core brown 10% corona light down 8%. modelo eespecial. >> when you look at our beer
6:18 pm
business, our year-to-date depletions areup 9%. and as we said on the call, our december depletions which represent 60% of the coming quarter are up higher than that amount so we are very pleased about our beer business. one of the things he was alluding to was the introduction of premier we have done roughly twice the amount of premier. and that has had some attachment to our other beer portfolio. when you think about the corona brand franchise, we have an extremely strong brand family. >> he also alluded to, and i wrote down the term, he said listen, you got to worry about balance sheet risk i don't know, i mean, i have seen the amount of money you throw off, i am not concerned but maybe you can address it. >> one of the things we also
6:19 pm
announced today wassed fact that over the next three years we are going to return $4.5 billion to shareholders this is on top of any of the exercise of the warrants that we have in canopy this remains a strong cash generation business. and frankly, i don't understand that question. we are in a great position and we continue to be in a great position and the strength of our beer business is going to continue to be in a great position going forward. >> we added to that that we would also get back into our target debt to ebitda range. and on the assumption that we exercise the canopy warrants so i mean, i would say neither bill nor i understand exactly what pablo is saying in that
6:20 pm
regard. >> fair enough the elephant in the room is actually a positive almost, we are going to have canopy on tonight. and the numbers are extraordinary. should we start thinking about the let's say the growth of canopy and stop worrying about this low end spirits where maybe people are trying to get high off low end spirits and you have got both bases covered. >> two things. we do think the health of the base business and the beer business is critical and the good news there is it is extremely healthy as bill said 9% growth year-to-date and even going into december, double digit depletion growth so we're very confident about the beer business and where that's heading literally no change there. as far as cannabis goes, i think it is all a good news story.
6:21 pm
there has been a lot of, i would say negative press and hyperbole about it and the canadian government has come out and said the run rate currently is roughly $6 billion which is exactly what we said it would be we have a roughly 20% to 30% share of that. and anticipating that canopy is going to be a billion dollar in revenue business in the next 12 to 18 months and in addition to that, we said and we still stick by this, because as i said, there is no change, the news is getting even better, that the canopy bill will be decreeted in 2021. i think we have all the bases covered. the one sore spot in the business, the low end wine business, i can assure you that issue will be dealt with and in
6:22 pm
fact we were already as i said pursuing strategic alternatives relative to that even before this quarter so you know, i would say way oversold the stock is an absolutely fantastic value. in fact, my brother and i acquired 1 million shares in the last week or so. >> well, there you go. >> a million shares. not a million dollars, jim, a million shares actually 1.1. >> there you go. that is the most statement ever come on "mad money." more than a million share buy, that says more than we ever say on air "mad money" back after the break.

you can zoom out into the future and you look back and you ask the question, what was apple's greatest contribution to mankind, it will be about health our business has always been about enriching people's lives and as we have gotten into health care more and more through the watch and other things that we have created with research kit and care kit and putting your medical records on the iphone, this is a huge deal. >> that was yesterday. how do we evaluate a stock like apple today? do we judge it for what it is now, a tech hardware company that we just learned may be cutting its iphone production by 10% or judge it at what it could become yesterday i walked away from my interview firmly convinced that
6:26 pm
it is worth 11 times the earnings the slow drip of bad news continues. is it possible that i am digging in my heels on a name that doesn't have what it takes anymore. am i holding on to apple like a lovey blanket. no let me tell you why. the only thing analysts seem to care about is the iphones that account for 6% of its sales. i figured apple shares would be down at some point that is what happened. then a few minutes after that 10% cut story broke, i was watching squawk and a medical doctor came on he talked about how they are using artificial intelligence to predict heart failure by reading
6:27 pm
a patient's electro cardio gram. how do you get that ekg? you can go to your doctor or you get a smart watch with an ekg app. and that is why apple is such a conundrum. the apple watch is better than going to the doctor's appear they just need to set up that handshake i keep talking about so apple can pass on the ekg results to the right person. we should be asking when, as in when it happens. it is not like there are 7 million americans that should go by the watch thee hundred 18 million americans that should get
6:28 pm
tested and if you do that, you got to buy the watch. and if you do that, you got to buy the phone and if you buy the phone, you are part of the eco system people worldwide that could avail themselves to these services and by avail themselves i mean pay apple for the privilege. you get that hand shake to connect the watch to mayo clinics network and that could prove positive headlines until then, the stock trades on every little data point that gives us some insight into iphone hardware sales. for this one program at the mayo clinic, that's one example i happen to see on television this morning. but there are other services the one that gives apple a razor razor blade business model
6:29 pm
wall street will only care about the razors and not the razor blades and that is wrong that is why i expect apple stock to stay mired at this level. except as i said at the top of the show, you won't be paying 153 bucks for this stock when that happens you will be paying well in excess other than the number of lives that the company will have saved. let's take calls let's go to anthony in florida >> caller: big booyah from florida, jim. >> liking that i am in san francisco, good to talk to you. >> caller: good to talk to you my question is about nokia with the new 5g rollout how do you think that will benefit. >> i don't want you to buy nokia. you want one, sky works solutions is the way to play 5g.
