sports bar, i told him look i can't recommend it when my daughter was luc a's age we would take them to a dave and buster lose fortunes to pick up a 20 cent trinket to me it was a big waste of tame i like dave and buster the concept. it's part of what we call the experience economy but a funny thing happened to experience economy thesis. it turns out cruises, clamping and dave and busters, that doesn't translate into earnings power to say nothing of staying power with the consumer. all right.
6:05 pm
so the last time dave and busters missed guidance we see the same the thing with some cruise lines like carnival a well run institution and camping. dave and busters is off the table what kind of stock would be right for a 10-year-old like luca i always say don't over think it if you got a kid by that kid in kids shares in disney. disney plus, why the stock jumped 3% today. when you're buying stock for a young kid, you should go with the stock of a company they know now i personally can think of a brand no better than disney. you need that personal knowledge. why? this is one of the most important parts of investing i teach. stocks go down disney is something tangible you can see it you can figure if something is

[ cheers and applause my bad my bad wrong moment how do those stores do versus the company average? >> those stores perform if not

6:20 pm
front and center mental health commitment for veterans >> we had starbucks partners sort of raise this topic to us just in the last couple of years. not loin for veterans, but also just one in five americans are suffering from some form of mental health issue. it could be as simple as stress and anxiety, could be depression certainly for those veterans who return from multiple tours of duty, you know oftentimes they have unique needs. as a company we've announced extending our health care benefits to include mental health and well being. much of this is about breaking the stigma of mental health. it's encouraging information say it's okay to ask for help and we'll make sure wework together break that stigma and that we provide those services for all our starbucks partners and especially our military vets >> that's why you and i believe business can be the greatest force for change in our society. i want to speak about the stock

[ cheers and applause we're here at the air force academy celebrating veterans day. a little ahead of schedule i want to point out there are better ways of honoring the brave men and women who fought for our country than telling them how great they are. nothing wrong with a hand shake or a thank you for your service but nothing on a hand shake and you're hired so tonight i'm urging you to buy stocks of companies that aggressively hire veterans not because it's the right thing to do. this is "mad money". we're more concerned about helping you to try to turn a profit in the stock market so you can do the right thing for whatever that may be there's only one reason i recommend stocks because i think they will be good investments. companies that hire lots of veterans have strong stocks. turns out having a highly trained highly disciplined,
6:27 pm
highly trustworthy, highly dedicated workforce who would have thought we just heard from the ceo of starbucks. a company deeply committed to hiring vets and military spouses over and over again. last year starbucks came out with a new goal hiring 25,000 vets by 2025 got there six years ahead of time going forward the coffee chain plans to hire 5,000 more every year on top of that starbucks offers expanded benefits and bought starbucks military family stores where they can work and transition back to civilian life starbucks stock pulled back from it's recent highs. i think it's a buy down here is it a back up the truck buy. the ceo says i trust him. next up there's jpmorgan chase that is the massive bank that's made incredible efforts to support veterans they may be better on this issue
6:28 pm
than any other company i follow. offering jobs, mortgage free homes and career training programs in 2011 jpmorgan under the leadership of jami dimon formed a coalition with several other companies. they set a new goal. 300,000 jobs they've blown past that one. hiring 550,000 vets. that's working jpmorgan hired 15,000 vets since 2011, offered mortgage free homes to military families and enrolled 30,000 participants in a free career training program at the institute for veterans and military families also done what you would normally expect from a bank helping people with entrepreneurs by giving them access to capital. when we reached out to jamie dimon he said these brave men and women have great leadership qualities and demonstrate exceptional teamwork
6:29 pm
we're fortunate to have them as colleagues and salute them do you think it's a coincidence that jpmorgan is the best run bank in america with a stock that's up 30% for the year when you look at the raw numbers. home depot stands out. 35,000 veterans on the payroll 10% of their workforce from 2011 through 2025 they spend half a billion on veteran related causes home depot knows it can do well by doing good. disney last night create quarter. more on that later worth noting ceo bob iger started a major push to employ retired service members in 2012. communicated with him before the show he told me he's hired more than 10,000 veterans and providing career support seems to be working out well for disney that stock was the best gainer in the entire s&p today.
6:30 pm
a lot of that is because they are doing this disney plus and i think it's going to be terrific. southwest airlines this whole industry loves military pilots. southwest has over 8100 employees who served in the military or currently actively serving as well as more than 1400 military spouses. those are huge numbers nearly a sixth of southwest air force. true much competition and some problems with boeing but lately they've been gaining attitude and southwest rallied 20% since august the ceo has often told me he wants to hire you because he wants to run the best airline. there are a couple of utilities very good on this front. southern companies exxon. southern's new veterans bamake 10% of the workforce i got to tell you those are high paying jobs. walgreen made a major commitment
6:31 pm
to hiring vets they have a program to fast track that for store management positions. let's not forget about a little pride here comcast parent coffee this network comcast is one of the founding members of chamber of commerce hiring 100,000 military and spouses campaign they employed 21,000 members of the military communities by 2021 i tried not to comment on comcast because i'm not an impartial observers but these guys know what they are doing when it comes to this room, to the vets and shareholders and customers. the bottom line, i am glad so many companies are making major efforts to hire veterans both because it's the right thing to do. but much more importantly because we're "mad money". it's good business no compromise. not just some patronizing feel good story when you look over the firms that made the largest commitments their stocks are fantastic performers this is one of those rare cases when you do well buy doing good.
6:32 pm
let's take questions yes. >> hey, jimmy name is michael wallace. i'm from tampa, florida. i'm a huge fan of your show. in our junior year we each cadet has the opportunity to take out the cadet loan which is a $36,000 loan, with an extremely low apr. i was just wondering from your opinion, would you recommend taking the loan and if so what would be the best line of effort for it >> look you guys are involved -- i should say men and women -- i think that because of the commitment that you have to our country and to what you do, i do think you should invest but do it in an x fund. if you have some real great insight to have one or two stocks but you should invest that rate is lower than i think you can get from a mutual fund that pays good dividends that's what you should do. that's how you save money.
6:33 pm
i salute you for that. i don't understand why the tampa bay buccaneers aren't better couple of wide receivers yes. >> my name is jason schultz from illinois a company called square. with ongoing shift in electronic payments there's great potential for the company especially with major growth overseas. however the company has not been part of an economic downturn since its ipo. is it a buy? >> i like the quarter very much. they put up great numbers. stock is up. i think the stock goes from 63 maybe up to 70, 75 got rid of caviar. good move. i hate the food delivery business very smart stock went down ever since the previous cfo left to go to a very good project. i think that you are now able to buy that stock at a discount

6:37 pm
with big winners, big losers everything in between. how do you distinguish between the haves and have notes ahead of time. let's ask the landlords. last time we spoke to jim taylor, he owns hundreds of open air shopping centers, places where people still shop unlike malls which have become bowling alleys and waste lands they are selective with their anchor tenants they want stores that drive traffic and happy to let go of anyone who is not doing good business when that lease runs out. we looked over the top ten something jumped out to me three of the top seven are off price chains they are cramer faves, tjx, ross and burlington stores.
6:38 pm
tj maxx is their biggest tenant. these stocks will continue to roar higher. look over the other shopping center regency center supermarkets but still sjx top five tenant and most recent investor presentation, tjx and ross stores as two of the best tenants opening lots of properties they call out tjx and ross as members of the top 25 tenants. strip, camco, tjx is their largest tenant with ross and burlington top 15. these off price chains are still expanding. so what makes these companies such great tenants i think the landlords love them for the same reason customers
6:39 pm
do tj maxx and ross are treasure hunt stores. you can find deals they buy fancy stuff from department the stores that are desperate to unload their old inventory at a huge discount, they got the cash, and they mark it up a bit and sell it back to you. that's why shoppers keep coming back they generate more traffic that benefits their neighbors in the same shopping center they are all the winners from the road kill losers in the mall this is all about value, people. you simply can't find deals this good online unless you go the websites of these very same chains for people to get up off their couches and shop at a store you have to offer them something they can't get online. it's working tj maxx and ross stores and burlington are in great shape
6:40 pm
financially. landlords like a tenant with good credit. only better than a tenant with good credit is one who has good credit and want to rent more stores from you. ross stores 1800 they are going for 3,000 burlington is only 700 stores. they want 1,000. what really sets the off price chains apart is their counter cyclical nature. that's an authentic wall streetystreet -- street jibbarrish. cash-strapped consumers look for bargains this is a fabulous economy for the consumer in all three of these stocks are on fire but the fact that they benefit from a slow down means landlords can sleep sound at night
6:41 pm
they don't need the to worry about a ross going under when we have a recession tjx is the top dog it's the parent of tj maxx, marshals, home goods this stock has a 17% gain. it's up 32% year-to-date excellent numbers. tjx has the off price business down a science ross stores compared to ross desfor less, stock is up 34% for the year company is growing rapidly for a brick-and-mortar retailer. 1,087 stores and opening 100 new ones per year. i like it going into the quarter. last but not least burlington stores is different. has the same old price model but smallest of the three. the company has gotten much better at manage inventory merchandise flies off the
6:42 pm
shelves much faster than it used to we own burlington and this week we did trimming because the stock had a huge run in a couple of days. i believe in burlington. but my discipline tell me you need the to take something off the table after a major rally. the stocks of these off price chains are much cheaper than they should be people on wall street wouldn't be caught dead in a the tj maxx. they wouldn't. not me i just got a nice pair of slacks for 17 missy -- macy's. how do you think i got rich in the first place. burlington at 24 times earnings. that's a bargain when you consider the earnings growth they have. let me give the bottom line here the bottom line is maybe the best way to determine who is a good retailer is to listen to
6:43 pm
the landlords. shopping center retail investment trust love, love tjx, ross and burlington the tennessee. so maybe, therefore, you should too. "mad money" is back after the break.
