customers who have come to macy's in the online doors it is a company that its best days may be behind it but its worst days i think are behind it short interest has a lot to do with this. if you look at cds and credit guys who talk about some of these more beleaguered guys, the story over the last three weeks is that you have seen some tightening of the macy's sheet and the cash flow is expected again into the fourth quarter. i like macy's. beauty may come back but maybe not quite as much. if you had a look at department stores over specialty reatail,

department stores are stealing the thunder even though they are broken >> everybody is on zoom calls. but lipstick and concealer and blush and all of the stuff to get ready for all of these video conferences. no judgments if it is in fact you, but you didn't like ulta as your top pick. >> i didn't. we are going into the holidays and last thing you want to do is purchase something and end up with a lump of coal. we have talked about challenges to the supply and demand system. for me it's a company like target they have a vertically integrated business model, wide array of offerings, trades cheap to walmart and it navigates to some of the other challenges we see in the other sectors for me it's what i deliver to my

friends and family and make sure there is downside protection >> mike, you also liked target will a post pandemic environment be such that target can maintain its multiple >> both you and bonawyn hit on key things for target. one, target is trading at a discount to walmart. one of the reasons walmart is trading at that lofty value is because they are trying to figure out digital and ones that can transition to digital landscape will be important. i hit it target will follow walmart. amazon, look how it's priced relative to the market right there with the s&p, but we

have the potential what you were referring to is the fact that some names like target have been bolstered by the rush to buy needed goods and target has been an important supplier of those, but target and walmart have been making transition into grocery phase. i do like lulu i don't think target is completely out of the woods, but i think they are somewhat out of the woods. there is still material upside for macy's if they pull it off as far as lulu is concerned, i think they are becoming a life-style brand companies i would look to for example might include things like nike so i think there is potential in lulu as well, but

target is my pick. >> i know grasso is dressed up on the top, but on the bottom it is sweat pants you stood up the other day and you had on sweatpants. why wouldn't you like lulu >> today i am wearing green christmas pants with trees on them to clear that up who of did well this year is not going to do well next year but whoever didn't do well will do well in the next quarter or so tim laid out a great fundamental story on macy's. they are down 34% for the year but up 90% in december ulta up 10% for the year and up

43% for november target up 40% for the year and up 20% so you see the pattern there, that if you did well, it's hard to replicate it come 2021. i love target, love lulu they doubled their market offering stuff for men as well but the problem is, in order to do well in 2021, you have to do better than you did in 2020. the bar is extremely low for macy's all of this tail wind for names that didn't perform this year that will in the next quarter. >> that's dogs of retail you take the dogs this year and they will be top performers next year tim, do you buy into that mentality? >> by the way, last night we were shocked to learn that b.k. was only wearing yoga pants

these days perspective on what has happened to the world i would prefer steve te's chriss pants. i think the fourth quarter will be solid i think they are to be owned up until you get four q earnings. we will have seen a lot of sales pull forward with a number of players, especially with the stay at home and also a longer holiday season i am not sure i want to own a lot of these retailers into next year, but i think the story and runway we will get is through year end i think sales will be strong if you look at trends overall, after a three, almost four-year wicked underperformance to the s&p by xrt, over the last 14 or 15 months, it has outperformed

by 20. retail has started to turn the tide i think a lot of this has been these companies that have changed from being brick and mortar and big box stores that had to adjust to a digital environment. they are doing that. in the same way that amazon is no longer the same tech play, i think a lot of these retailers will be thought of the same way. it is a long way of saying i think you will have a continued recovery in retail >> we should be clear with xrt, the components are unusual, names that you wouldn't necessarily think of as top components of the xrt. so how does that change your view of how this index will do going into what will be their reporting season in the first quarter, mike? >> i think that's a great point. when we look whether it's exchange, trade or product, most

thought of are tech. the biggest representation of constituents of those products, but with xrt, that isn't the case you have a lot of auto retailing, for example those are the things increasingly problematic big ticket items, if you see continued weakness out of consumers where they might be stretched, one of the reasons i like target is they sell the staples, things people need to buy. when you look at xrt and the more discretionary stuff, that's the area i get more concerned. things like lulu, upper end things, they might be more immune >> video game consoles are hot, but good luck finding one. josh >> melissa, the biggest console

launch ever is how sony is describing the launch of its play station v console we don't have the numbers, but presumably that will mean more than they shipped in q 4 2014. it hasn't been easy to buy these consoles from sony or microsoft. microsoft executive suggested its new consoles will be supply c constrained into next year why? demanding is said to be way up as people all over the world look for in-home entertainment due to the pandemic. also, companies do limit volume, at least early on. margins are thin due to new

should be in charge of our currency that's just my view on all of this i think the most important news outside of vaccine news was janet yellen the fact we have a treasury secretary who has been a fed chairman, has thought to provide more support for the economy during periods of stress and comes out of a period of innovation where maybe the fed has stepped way too far. you could make an argument we are merging fed and treasury terrible for the market. something that equities have found joy in there is a push for fiscal that certainly isn't there on the way out. when you combine that with a fed

was notching growth of nearly 70%. amid the pandemic, stronger numbers, it has been a relative underperformer microsoft has been part of the story. it has the advantage of including the app as part of its office 365 bundle. and this could presumably help slack in that battle but for sales force, this isn't necessarily a win. shares ended lower by more than 5% sales force has been active in purchasing obieou and mule soft.

but some say this is not the right time quarterly earnings are next tuesday. we will see if anything materializes by then but not a call you want to miss. >> how do you feel about a potential deal between crm and slack. >> i believe in june or so we talked about slack and whether they were competing or not competing with microsoft slack appealing to more small businesses and microsoft to more behemoth businesses, et cetera, et cetera. in is a natural sequence you have -- a natural sequence

in terms of how you engage with your customer base and roll it up >> grasso, what do you make of it, especially from a crm perspective? >> i think crm had to do it. i understand why they did it i think people are slacked out, zoomed out i think this is a rearview mirror deal. as they started out saying why sales force did it it is a home run for slack i think the best days are behind zoom and slack and i understand that to be competitive with microsoft, salesforce had to do this so i am up in the air whether this is good for them going forward. >> why would they have to do it if you believe the best days of slack are behind it? why do you have to do a deal like that?

>> i don't know if i believe that i think the share price people are paying for, work at home software, may have peaked, but i don't think salesforce is playing offense. -- playing defense. i think they are playing offense. it can give it a whole new outlook. i think the collaboration element of this is a big win for c crm who saw a huge price increase relative to where they were six months ago, they got this thing for free i like the deal. they need to be thinking about tomorrow hopefully we are not all working from home at some point. mel, i would love to see you in the studio but i think collaboration and synergy, i think we have just begun. >> mike, what did you see in the

option space >> we saw a lot of activity in the options space. in the case of slack, more than 12 times average volume on the options side some was on some that expired friday the ones that expire ended up at $3 because the stock ended up at $40. options traders are betting a deal will be announced and are giving us some idea what the value is because i don't think that this type of work flow, whether working from home or office is going anywhere i am a slack user so i can say that >> slacker >> i can say they are trying to compete not only with them but

that thing with fedex and ups it was a big issue last year and bottlenecks they couldn't work through but the performance of those stocks, previous two holiday seasons, more cyclicality, but what we have learned from fedex and ups is they have mastered the b to c side. but what they are doing on ground express and doing things we didn't think they were going to do. i am long fedex. for those people who think it is time to take profits, i don't think we are through that yet. >> bono? >> clearly you might see some cost pressure in the interim, but i think these companies have done a good job.

into bitcoin i wonder how you came about that decision do you think we have a lot of cash because our business generates a lot of cash. is it treasury, money market, what was your thought process? >> well, the story here is due to the rapid expansion of the monetary supply of the central banks, the cost capital has tripled from 5% to 15% over the last year. over the next four years, bond coupons will need to exceed that hurdle we had 500 million worth of cash, but we knew we would generate another 500 million worth of cash. we realized if we held it in cash it would deface by 10 or 15% per year bitcoin is the best safe haven treasury asset in the world

right now. and it is to be revered to gold in all aspects that being the case, a lot of people understand the asset story of bitcoin it is up each year annually. but what they don't understand is bitcoin is a monetary network and it is capable of storing and chaneling energy without power loss we got excited about this idea and saw it as a solution not just for the 300 trillion of tap cal -- capital in the world it's compelling. >> sorry to interrupt. cash on a balance sheet and wanting to preserve the power of that cash is one thing investing it in something that is speculative is another. are you a software company or a bitcoin hedge funneled d at thi

point. why bother with the software part of the business if you truly believe bitcoin is going to go up 100% every year going forward. >> we do have a software company generating trash, but if we allowed it to depreciate 15% a year, we would be losing on the p and l so that didn't make sense. the traditional concern about bitcoin was it might be hacked or copied or banned. after a decade, it has not been copied or hacked or banned so it is volatile in the first decade, but in the next decade it doesn't look to be that volatile it looks like it's emerging at the primary treasury reserve asset. >> how do you view the bitcoin

part of the business and you trim your bitcoin to be conservative i am not sure what your bitcoin position is. you initially invested 400 million or so back in august and that position has to be enormous by now >> we love the enterprise business, intelligence business, but we don't want to capitalize the company by going to zero and don't want to allow our treasury to debase by 10 or 20% per year. i think as investors understand the bitcoin story, they will my great and that will be a cycle of adoption, followed by value, followed by tech knonology

with who was it -- dan was down on ford what do you make of adam jonas's call >> well, adam has always been a friend of the show, very thoughtful this is a relative value call. they went from overweight to market perform on ford they are not negative. his point is the market is now pricing the ev as an opportunity, not a threat to the companies. that's his thesis. therefore, if anything, i think he's goosing up the multiple on gm he moved it up to 5.51 per share. ten times a $55 stock, somewhere around there that's the story but the move to all in no hybrids and adam's point was no europe, these have been a

seeing today believe me this is not what we see on the wednesday before thanksgiving today and sunday are expected to be the busiest i would take back today being one of the busiest since before the pandemic we have really seen slower crowds than what we see. about a million people are expected to fly today. you will see greater than a million on sunday. this is this week whether you take today or last weekend or this coming sunday the busiest day since we have seen since the pandemic. the passenger level remains extremely weak they're down 50% yesterday down 50% to 55%. nowhere close to where they were before the pandemic. airline stocks have been moved higher one stock in particular we want to talk about, by the way it was mixed today with many of the airlines stocks finishing higher after trading lower early in the session. delta airlines worked out a deal
