6:00 pm
here >> guy >> the mighty thor a lot of pentup demand for those. i look forward to jim's interview tonight on "mad money. >> we will see you back tomorrow night. my mission is simple to make you money. i am here to level the plain field for all investors there is always a bull market some where i promise to help you find it. "mad money" starts now hey, i am cramer, welcome to "mad money." welcome to cramer-america. my job is not just to entertain you but to educate and teach you, call me at 1-800-743-cnbc or tweet me @jim cramer. after a day where the dow slips 201 points we entered the two markets
6:01 pm
phase. we got the real market, actual companies trying to hit the rest of it and we got the dream market filled with start ups that are desperately trying to be part of the alternative food chain. the real market is running out of steam they had their days in the sun not much momentum now. then there is the dream mark which has incredible momentum even if it is ridiculously over heated, frothy and i got to tell you downright dangerous. i am talking about the market for alternative fuels to power cars and trucks. consider if you will a non-start up called plug pal we have them on the hydrogen fuel where their stock is up more than 1,000 % for the year and nearly $60 billionmarket cap or how about ballard system
6:02 pm
and don't forget bloom in the morninm nerge, energy, stocks at 20%. velodyne lidar, up 2%. how about quantum scape. the darn thing more than doubled than last month. oh, let's not forget at the electric charging stories. stocks surging 2500% congress passed an alternative fuel packet credit
6:03 pm
why not? another charging station place easy come and easy go. then there is the mac daddy, quantumscape the company is developing a faster and better charging batteries, they say it is better than tesla 39% run. why not? quantumscape is $46 billion. i don't know look, i can go on and on these are a lot of names you get the picture so what's driving these? three things many of these alternative energy have novel technology that used to be too expensive. they have not been able to become real business america is about to have new president. you expect the biden
6:04 pm
administration to be friendly to green energy third is tesla this gives you stunning games. tesla makes a lot of electric vehicles and solar panels. it is worth more than $600 million it does not matter how they see it tesla opens the door for a host of other electric car plays that become public by merging with acquisition companies or made it into the realm so to speak there is the asset light electric suv designer. there is lordstown and how about workhorse. you got chinese competitor nio all of these electric stocks
6:05 pm
have enough connection to tesla that their valuations meant little to these buyers after all tesla have fortunes for years and now is pretty much who to say workhorse should not be the next tesla? what happens when the dream market slams first into the real market what happens when they meet to deal with a company that's not a fairy tale but with business with real earnings it works apple wants to get into electric car business in response to the biggest stock in the market, rallying 3%. apple is tight when you consider they extend 18
6:06 pm
billion on r&d, i would not be surprised if they got electric vehicle some where we know apple likes to disrupt the big market and getting bigger in the oil industry if anyone can give tesla a run for the money is tim cook and his team do you buy it on the rumor honestly, who cares? all trade on hopes and dreams. you can buy apple because it is making a fortune selling, the iphone 12. demand is off the charts given these guys have the best satisfaction number. you have to judge apple based on the lifetime of its value. selling you the phone gets their foot in the door after that they call the subscription avenue, that's why the stock is more upside even after terrific run this year i am not saying we should value apple the way we value tesla or any of these behind me i can't imagine where that would put the stock.
6:07 pm
can we value it like we do clorox or proctor? there is one problem with my apple analysis, i have been saying it for years. i think is till true apple is really working on electric cars, guess what? the upside could be enormous what do do you do if you own th dream stock? because i thought it was time to ring the register, they move so much they keep roaring. you only need to get rich once, people maybe you want to take a little bit off the table. that's all cramer says i want you to make money and not just look at it on paper i want you to take it home i will say one thing though. they'll offer massive quantity to stop right here tomorrow morning they can take care of funding for years to come. they would be nuts not to do
6:08 pm
gigantic offers. they would be fools if they miss this opportunity you know what, who knows plug power didn't offered a long time ago apple, the bottom line, electric vehicles give you a reason to own apple. unlike the dream stocks which keeps weaving higher even when it is ridiculous for them to continue to do so. jeff in florida, jeff. >> yo man, thank you so much for everything you are doing in 2020 you are busting your butt. you a truth to power >> i like to come to play. that's the way i like it
6:09 pm
eviden every day is the playoffs here >> i appreciate your insight of weight watcher >> it is too up and down for me. it is not consistent as i like you have this every january and you have a hit or miss, maybe they hit it out of the park or they don't i don't want that pressure for myself let's go to charlie in new york. >> charlie >> hi jim, merry christmas >> right back to you >> i would like to get your take on boston pr it is a great pandemic performer. should i call it a quit or leave my money on the bar or should i stick around for more. >> there are a lot of companies that are coming in aggressively, it gets them in the market i think they'll continue to be the predominant one though and i think it goes higher still jay in california. >> jim, how are you?
6:10 pm
>> i am good, how about you, jay? >> i am good i am from california happy pier happy birthday to my friend, dr. richard lee, 13 years ago, i gave him your book on his birthday >> happy birthday to you >> i was walking "squawk on the street" and apparently they missed on earnings the night before i bought at $155, since then it has been creeping backup two questions for you. in general, is that a good time for buy regardless of the company? is it a buy or sell? >> i have been watching this stock over the last five days gravitating higher, splunk that tells me you want to hold onto it. i bet you they're getting deals
6:11 pm
done i know they're up against snow flake, that's all a problem. snow flake is king doug myers promises some numbers coming up. the ordeals did not close that should be really close this quarter. the real market looks like it kind of got a little momentum so to speak the ev market is on fire do i think is healthy? what does it matter what i think? buyers keep buying you have every right to buy whatever you want. the apple news today, you know what i am going to say own it, don't trade it i'm siting down with a private company innovative new way to combat covid-19 pandemic i will reveal ahead. i kcontain it, it is a bittersweet day for the container store. twilio is up i will be talking with jeff lawson of the company's position to help with this current

6:17 pm
wear all over the place. we seem to have a lot of ones that's creative but not many that seems to work as well tell me what you can solve this public health problem. >> jim, we started to develop this technology about four years ago really searching to find a material that would kill material and as covid-19 hits, we turn and started to look at the effectiveness of killing viruses and as you mentioned we had over 500 tests done by third party labs we are able to kill a broad range of bacteria and viruses including covid-19 the beauty of this technology is that the materials start out as pal lettes and we can formulatei a wide variety of applications into fiber for filtration and
6:18 pm
cloths for clothing and mass pcs and packaging. we have a wide range of application that this technology can go into. >> it is the answer to a lot of people's most pressing problems trying to stop the spread. >> jim, we are a 70-years-old company, the company that you come in contact everyday that you have not heard of. we have run this material on our world scale assets we are the largest innovated producer of nylon 66 in the world with all of our manufacturing assets right here in the usa >> i wear this for most of the day. phil, i don't want to be too gross so to speak but it does not smell. >> that's the beauty of this technology fch technology if you think of athletic wear of where this technology started,
6:19 pm
your athletic wear smells because you sweat and you have bacteria that forms on the fabric we kill bacteria and viruses at 99 plus percent on contact therefore, you never have a smell form and the beauty of this technology is that it is sustainable. we embed it into the polymers itself, you can wash the material over and over but it does not lose is effectiveness >> we know the n-95 is registered by the government mask is this equal to that? i know it is hard to make certain claims it is stringent on who can claim this kind of protection. >> we have a wide variety of ppe that we developed now and the
6:20 pm
mask that you have which is this mask is a fabric mask similar to this non-woven mask which is made out of what you find at your air filter at home. we have twoped level one surgical mask and level two surgical mask and are working right now with a producer outside of the u.s. on an n-95 this is a nylon proof of n-95 mask that we are able to apply your technology to this has the capability to use in a wide range application. if you think of going beyond masks. think of your hospital workers and nurses and doctors who are in our scrubs, think about if you are a patient wearing a

what happens they're talking about sales growth in the high teens and much higher than expected earnings however, it was a bittersweet note the chairman is turning this company around it is going to happen early next year thanks to the recent run though she's going out on the highest of notes what does it mean for contain ter store. let's speak to melissa wright. welcome back to "mad money." >> thank you, jim, we are going to miss you. you got to tell us how you did it because it is some quarter. >> it has been just incredible
6:27 pm
there is never a perfect time to pass the reign but it felt as perfect as it could get right now. i am so excited for satesh to be joining our company and leading our company. we are in a perfect spot we double down and we double down on digital and we double down online, we got things works for us, i could not be happier there are things that you did that resonates with younger people, everyone talking about tidying up or when you dit td the home edit netfli show when i get past my bound, and i talked to them what they like. they like container stores it is all set up by you. >> i can't take credit for it
6:28 pm
single handedly. we just open opportunities and we go into things with an open mind and home medic has been a beautiful partnership and i believe it will continue to be so we launch a new condo selection mid-january. refine our brand and our purpose and vision that included trying to attract new customers. we have been successful with that >> you know my 26 years old is a huge fan of yours and she told me to tell you that you do something that's a bit of an ethos. you make people's life easier so they set themselves to accomplish other things. that's what i keep hearing about your vision which is and in the end is containers but it is not.
6:29 pm
>> it is not it is much more than just containers i believe that we help our customers truly and not only say time but i am prooif tmprove th their lives. when you reasonably organize, you have more time to do the things that you love we are not about selling items, we can do it all whether it is changing a pantry or a room. we can do it all >> you don't have enough stores. is mr. t going to put up for stores >> 93 stores the runway is incredible i think is finding the right locations and opening the right size store i hope and i feel confident that's apart of his plan he's a retailer.
6:30 pm
as you said he's from sephora and he'sbeen there 21 years. he's bright and articulate and he's got tons of energy and enthusia enthusiasm i think he really respects our brand and who we are and what we accomplish the only thing i have asked, satesh, i hope you come in and double down on everything we did well and you fill up those kbgas i think he's going to be fantastic. i could not be prouder the board and i have been working on my replacement for months and it was exhaustive search >> you have made a sustainable prop you should tell people that. well, why do i need this >> yeah, that was a big initiative it is something we have more work to do we'll continue to do that.
6:31 pm
i think is particularly and should be important to all consumers but particularly important to -- and of your daughters and other younger age and others that satesh will pursue >> people know you will be sticking around in the late summer of 2021 and then what >> you mean then what for me >> yeah, for you >> i sit on the etsy board which i absolutely love. i hope to continue to be engaged with that responsibility and i sit on my alma mater school board here at smu or another board where i can add more values i want to be on a board where i can contribute and make a difference in the right way. i will always bleed blue
6:32 pm
i am always going to be a container store cheerleader and fan because i sold the lead in our brand and vision and our different things ahead for this company. i could not just be more proud and excited. >> well, you have done a remarkable job what a way to of the announcement i heard, thank you for sending it to me so sad of your departure but then when i saw the number, holy cow, this is john elway, this is when you retire, you just won the super bowl congratulations melissa reiff. great to see you again >> thank you, jim, so nice to see you, have a good day "mad money" is back after the break.

6:34 pm
6:35 pm
6:36 pm
uchlt it it is a great year for twilio this stock is up 225% for 2020 we are focusing on one specific shareholder, jeff lawson he made a $5 million commitment to help pitch in a charity for restaurants. they're trying to help people feed, just get some food on the table during a difficult time. people are starving and stealing food given the stock just hit a new time high today. that's the right move. he's doing it big. don't take it from me though,
6:37 pm
let's find out from jeff lawson a , cofounder and ceo of twilio. >> thank you, jim. >> welcome to "mad money." >> i got lawson on and we are talking at it. this is the most ingenuous way to help restaurants which you know impassi am passionate aboud of course help people eat which everyone is passionate about >> earlier in covid, lines and miles long and people waiting at food pantries, trying to get food for relief and people are waiting block long to get some food the source of that food is drying up. you can see this is going to be a very big problem, meanwhile restaurants and all of our cities are closed down, they're struggling and many of them are going out of business so we said is there a way we can pay
6:38 pm
restaurants to do what they do best they have a whole supply chain of food, take that food and create meals and let people who are insecure walk in the door and help them through this difficult time that's where health kitchen started with back in april when we started with. now we are closing in on half a million meals served and now is the holiday time covid is worst than ever the restaurants are in a bad spot and so many cities, that's why we are ramping up. it is the holiday season this is the time where nobody should be without food our hope is this program allowing restaurants and normal times struggle to make ends meet we know it is a brutal business. they have access capacity and extra food they have down time during the afternoon when they could be using that extra food and labor to help their neighbors through difficult times, become apart of the food service and security solution
6:39 pm
we think this is additives so many people have worked on food security and great organizations, one area that i think the system is so stressed right now because nobody and society is not seeing this level of hunger before we just need more and additive solutions to the problem because the scale is so great. >> someone is watching right now in chicago and someone is watching in houston and europe and boston, they want to be in it and they want to help local restaurants. how does health kitchen works? >> my wife and i started the effort in san francisco as well as in detroit which is our hometown we funded and getting these two cities off the ground. we are operating in aurora and colorado and denver and tacoma, washington we feel this can apply, this model that uses technology as
6:40 pm
well, we need people to text in. if there is philanthropists in cities want to bring it to their city, there is a contact form, someone can e-mail me, we think to get the city off ground takes about a million dollars to line up restaurants, commit to the amount of food that those restaurants are groioing to ser. once it is off the ground then people can chip in all sorts of donations to help scale the program. hellkitchen.org. >> this is something that the government should be involved in you are doing a lot to get the words out vaccines and contact trace. tell us about what twilio is doing to stop the pandemic >> twilio is used by so many
6:41 pm
organizations and we are so proud that our product can be used in these ways we saw twilio used for kcontact tracing on top of twilio covers half of the american population. that's implemented in the city and the state level across the united states. more recently we have seen yucae around vaccine distributions a lot of people are focused on how do we get the vaccines out of the world, refrigeration trucks and all that kind of stuff. a lot of organizations and cities and states are using twilio to get to the vaccines, convincing people to get vaccinated so this is really a two-prong effort you have to get the vaccines to people but also get people to the vaccines and there is a lot of ways, text messaging and phone calls in order to coordinate all of that human logistics.
6:42 pm
>> one of the things you talked about, you have a terrific engagement study which talks about the acceleration by an average of six years >> yeah. >> it made sense if you think of all of society face-to-face interactions shutdown over night. every company and municipality and every organization there is, they need to turn all those face-to-face interactions into digital ones this is trends that already happens. if you think of the digital transformation done of so many ways we are doing business, digital transformation makes these services more convenient and easier to consume. the trends that have been going on in our society around digitalizing it and streamlining
6:43 pm
and so many actions into digital ones those trends got accelerated by covid. i love the story of nike, actually nike prior to covid been building an app using twilio flex to enable their sales people, to communicate with the digital customers on the website. hey, these athletes have so much product knowledge, they can help customers not only walk to our front doors but find the right products for them. covid hits and they had to shut all of those fiscphysical storeo a while. nike became digital over night to see ecommerce acceleration at scale is a one way track
6:44 pm
ecommerce is going to be accelerated now. >> if you look at the nike's conference call, it is rather amazing wonder of the world. the real wonder is what you are doing with health kitchen and i am going to tell everyone, i want everyone to tell everybody about this this solves two problems, more importantly the people that can't eat. jeff lawson, chairman and ceo of twilio at an all time high today. thank you very much for everything you are doing >> thank you, jim. >> "mad money" is back after the break. for skin that never holds you back don't settle for silver #1 for diabetic dry skin* #1 for psoriasis symptom relief* and #1 for eczema symptom relief*
