6:00 pm
the 1:00 hour, that if they are not gone by the 6:00 hour, they will be arrested the scene outside the capitol is still -- lighting fires, smashingreporters' camera gear as many hours of this situation unfolding within the capitol has now continued outside the capit capitol. as for the leadership here in washington, we got a recorded message from president trump today. joe biden who gave a live address earlier this afternoon calling on president trump to address the nation more force fly a fully and saying this is not a protest, this is insurrection.
6:01 pm
it is 6:00 on the east coast, i am shepard smith in new york this is cnbc continuing coverage on the siege of washington what remains as we wait to hear from the president kristen welker is urging the president to make a statement. urging the president to come forward and calm the masses, we know there are demonstrations across the country, don't get me wrong, there is not chaos or violent all over the place, it is disquiet and unease demonstrations in a number of cities in washington, the curfew began 30 seconds ago
6:02 pm
they methodically removed the protesters away from the capitol building, they're removing demonstrators from the capitol ground they had worked to send out this message from the murial bowser as they work to restore calm and come up with a plan going forward, the senate must continue its work to count the vote nbc news projected that both democrats in the state of georgia won the election there which means a divided congress, si divided senate, 50/50 which gives democrats control, kamala harris as a tie breaker. the wheel of government have ground to a halt in the middle of thisover taking of the capit
6:03 pm
capitol. as you know throughout the day demonstrators made their way in, occupied the halls of the house of representatives and the na , senate senators were escorted away from gas masks to secure locations. the senate vows to continue their work the police in d.c. and the capitol police are overwhelmed to some degree such that virginia governor set in the national guard and federal troops numbering from 1100 they cleared things. we have the reporting of our senior justice department correspondent pete williams that one person, a woman was killed during this demonstration. we believe the victim of a gunshot wound, we do not know the circumstances. police reported of five weapons
6:04 pm
and 13 people arrested at this moment, i want to go to eamon javers for an update the curfew is in place right now, do you know if it is holding? >> we can see from the images we are looking at is the capitol hill cleared the stairwells on the west front of the capitol. that's where the inauguration of the president of the united states would happen, that's where president trump was inaugurated. they now have the capitol building itself secured. we are looking at some of the political ramifications rolling out, we are seeing calls from a number of democrats on capitol hill for the immediate impeachment based on his conduct today and we are seeing house democratic leaders, this is a statement from a democratic from massachusetts, donald trump is a
6:05 pm
traitor from our country, he must be removed and prevented from further endangering from our country. the information we have tonight is that the senate and house to return at some point when it is safe to continue counting the votes of the electoral college and the process towards making joe biden the next president of the united states. one of the big political questions around that is what's going to happen to the efforts by a core group of trump's loyalists object to the electoral college results and force the counting will that effort continue when the senate continue to count in wake of this horrific incident for america's democracy. hard core groups of republicans loyalists to trump
6:06 pm
that's what we don't know right now. it is a fast political dynamic to watch as it plays out over the course tonight, we don't have any scheduling information about when they can resume the count and move on with the process. shep >> ammothank you, let's listen n here >> they keep these trump rioters away from destroying this building here. >> there is no trump rioters here it is fake news. nobody was rioting nobody blew a girl's head off for no reason. >> that's an act of war. >> he's talking about the person who died earlier today the president has issued another tweet eamon and this is another
6:07 pm
live look. the president issued another tweet. it just falls in every way and appears to be rather asking for calm, egging this on, continuing to say that he won in a landslide victory that was stripped away from great patriotism and been unfairly treated for so long. the president is egging more on this let's listen in here >>the slilive shot signal is no good and you can see demonstrators are hijacking much of it. white house insiders and senior
6:08 pm
staffers are urging the president to take a strong stance on this he says these are things and events happen when the election is stripped away it is another series of lies you wonder how long this can continue can this continue another 14 days i don't know >> reporter: well, look, shep, what the president says to his large group of his loyalists today before sending them up to capitol hill to march on the capitol hill, he says we are not going to stand on this anymore the president says the election have been stolen and he convinced his followers there is an act of treachery here in the united states and he urged them to march to the capitol. he said he would be joining them, that was news to white house aides.
6:09 pm
the president of course did not join them. what unfolded was this riot assault and a tragic death of somebody in a shoot-out of capitol hill inside the capitol building this thing spiralled out of control. it started with the president continuing to implant the idea that his followers said that there is an outrage against the democracy itself here and sending them towards the capitol building we heard from rudy giuliani who called for trial by combat today in front of those supporters before the president sent them to the capitol building. rudy giuliani spoke about combat but what we have seen is some literal combat, fighting and shooting and inside the capitol building as a result of this rioted action and the question is to what degree was this coordinated and by whom? >> eamon, we have new reporting
6:10 pm
from nbc news. the fbi confirmed two explosive devices have been rendered safe including one at the headquarters of the republican national committee, a pipe bomb device was detonated one of two explosive devices found today from the fbi washington seal office two devices were found and safe by the fbi, the information is going. to malcolm nance now, terrorism analyst, when you look at the events of the day, the explosive devices, malcolm, how do you see this and how wouldyou categorize this? what is this >> i have been monitoring this for months and we monomored the chatters and web pages of these
6:11 pm
right-wing extremists. i have been up 2:30 this morning preparing exactly these. we knew a lot of the chatter these people have talked about coming to the district arm, they will come to march to save america in the march for trump in order to express their support for the president. but the thing i was most worried about was what happened today. as you recall in the plot to kidnap governor whitmer of michigan, the plan b was storm the state house with 200 people and taking democrats in the state house hostage, start trying them and executing them that's what the indictment had more their plan b. for them to go from washington d.c., the mall, for a large crowd to come up to the capitol and when i saw them starting to
6:12 pm
move and run towards the gate, they started fighting with law enforcement and trying to breach from the west then other groups went around in the east and somehow capitol hill police let them into the building which is utterly amazing. what happens here is a massive national security failure. we don't know whether the individuals who were armed in this engagement were in fact using these breachers to come in and kidnap people and have armed hostage barricade or execute government officials, we don't know the psychiatry service that they stop them from getting into the house chambers this is absolutely abysmal and what we have here is essentially the start of a trump's insurgency in the united states. >> malcolm, what i don't understand and i am guessing many of our viewers don't
6:13 pm
understand, all of us knew that they were preparing for trouble today. business owners knew as they boarded up and capitol police knew as they courted off they created another perimeter around the capitol everyone involved knew and the chatter on the network was made public for a reason and yet they got into the capitol with what appeared to be the greatest o f ease how is that possible what happened? >> i am sure we are going to investigate. the first thing that needs to happen is the chief of capitol police needs to be fired we have to figure this out i suspect and i am a little surprised because when i went through s.w.a.t. school 15 years ago, i went through with the capitol hill police, they have a group of emergency response team, they're a version of the s.w.a.t. it was the lined officer who were really engaging on the western steps but the officers on the eastern side appeared to
6:14 pm
think this was almost like a very large tour group coming to the steps of the eastern side and then when they started pushing through, they just fell back and let them have the entire entrance. some of their tactics were horrible they had one officer taking out his baton waving and shouting them, go back 10 feet until they pushed him up two flights of stairs they took over the building. how do we not know there was not someone in there bringing in weapons at the headquarter and come in once they start breaching the building and starts killing the people. everyone involved knees to be involved there needs to be a commission to investigate in this because what if it is isis >> you know when there is a
6:15 pm
bigger problem it seems as well. we now know from the reporting o f "the new york times" not yet confirmed that the order of the send out of the national guards facilitated by the governor of virginia and others, that came from vice president pence. not from president trump and on the heels of all of this, i won't read it again. essentially the president after they cleared it and the curfew begun has sent out through his communications platform of choice, twitter, they stole the election, i get it it almost appears as if he's sounding like he's asking for more of this i have never seen a president a moment of chaos not come forward and try to instill calm and do the other things, that must complicate the work of law enforcement officials. >> of course it does what you saw from the 80,000 foot level was donald trump inciting this riot today.
6:16 pm
the fights that was going on was straight out combat. they were breaching the building and cutting open and going up into the area and beating law enforcement officers and pep pe spraying law enforcement officers and the rest was breaching, smashing the door ways and pushing cops. donald trump encouraged this i watched every minute of it and i knew he started talking about having to takeaction
6:17 pm
>> former president george w. bush issued a statement. after this, i want to go to andy carr josh letterman, hang on please this is from a statement of the 43rd president i am appalled by this and the lack of respect shown today for our institutions and traditions and law enforcement. he said in a statement andy carr was the chief of staff for george w. bush he's live with us on the phone andy, i am glad to hear from former president bush. your thoughts on the day and the moment >> i have been crying today because of what's happening. it is so sad and it is motivated
6:18 pm
by the president of the united states, he inspired people to do things they knew they should not be doing this is clearly irresponsible. we do not want our constitution violated the way it is violated. we are proud of our democracy. we recognize the responsibility to be able to change leaders because the people have spoken and the constitution says what the consequences to the action, the votes counted. i am troubled by what's happening. i am troubled that the capitol police were not prepared to deal with this. the real challenge is recognizing that the people that invented democracy, aristotle and plato said the greatest threat of democracy and john adams repeated this is mob
6:19 pm
ruled. we have been on alert that this could happen we have to rally together as a nation and say we are better than this. this is out rarageous this is happening. we want our law enforcement to be able to do what they need to do they'll not stand in our constitution >> andy, stay right there. i have a couple of important questions for you. josh letterman out in the capitol. we were speaking of this woman injured and bleeding coming out. we know a gunshot victim has now died do we know the circumstances
6:20 pm
now? >>. >> reporter: we do not know. i can tell you here on the ground, a lot of rioters as they learn from the incident, they took that as a sign that the police werover reacting and police shooting an unarmed person we have no idea if that person was armed or not here on the senate side, there is a lot of activities over the last half hour or so as the police have tried to reclaim control of the situation we saw the officers who are here pushed everybody back from this entrance to the senate over here where a lot of rioters have been gathering and they moved the perimeters back and established this bike racks as a gate. these were here when i arrived earlier today and were knocked
6:21 pm
down by the rioters as they took basically the u.s. capitol that's back and over the last 20 minutes or so, we saw the gates opened as five buses came in and they were escorted by law enforcement. the lights were all off but we could see the windows that there were riot police in those buses and shortly there ever they got out of those buses we started to here announcement of curfew, warning anybody remaining at the capitol ground is subjected to an arrest. just hearing some of the folks who are still here and rioters speaking to us, they are just getting started. for them the night is still young and a lot can still go on
6:22 pm
right now, here columbia is in . shep >> where did protesters or demonstrators, where did they go where did they push them >> reporter: well, so they pushed them away from the entrance to the capitol and some of them dispersed over towards a union station which is a grove from the capitol we have been hearing from other our reporters that some folks have headed down towards the freedom plaza which is closer to the white house, the frequent place for first amendment demonstrations and protests so we are going to be looking to see whether folks are basically reconvening there now that there is such a law enforcement presence converged on the u.s. capitol of all sides as they try to take control of the situation here >> i know you were there from the beginning, josh, we inside nbc news have known because you
6:23 pm
know we know that there has been a lot of threats and consideration towards security, we know they beefed it up and they said it publicly, they said possibility of these sorts of things when you got there today, did ilt seem like there were extra security and were they prepared? because clearly they were not. >> reporter: there were extra security but not nearly anything on the magnitude of what they needed to control the situation. we know just from the protest permit that was issued for this event today, they were expecting up to 30,000 people. there are some profound questions right now why there was not more of a presence and why it took several hours and maryland and other states to send in their national guards. this is not the u.s. capitol police on hand to protect the u.s. capitol ground so you are
6:24 pm
seeing the surge from all of these other law enforcement agencies as they try to reclaim a situation that spiralled out of control >> josh lederman, i appreciate you. >> i am sure a lot of you seen a feed on your phone that looks like police letting the barrier of line goes and people are going through. all of that stuff need con contact. it is unclear how the capitol gotover run today. there is an investigation underway and the metropolitan police department which the greater d.c. police department is now in charge of the investigation of this woman's death. not capitol hill police, it is
6:25 pm
metro hill d.c. police there is an investigation underway there are wild stories on both sides about how it was that she lost her life. >> all of these people and we know some of them were protrump demonstrators, we don't know who all of them were you have to wonder what did someone with nefarious intent do while in that building or leave behind in that building. there are a lot of questions about security now has that thought crossed your mind what did those people do
6:26 pm
wandering in the people's hall and did anybody leave anything behind i guess the secure link dropped from andy. that's one of the big concerns of the day and the other is vice president, now president-elect biden came forward called for calm and insisted that we get this under control called for the president to make a strong statement the president's moment passed and now what he's doing is sitting inside the white house sending tweets about nonsense. we are left with a government and a washington in chaos. there are so many republicans in recent days who said, you know, privately and quoted publicly without names. is he just you know leaving out the back door and burning it down on the way.
6:27 pm
when you have a rally outside in washington, at 11:00 in the morning on the same day the senate was doing what it was doing and with all these profanities and having your son out there as a warm-up act talking nonsense and saying if you are not a hero, you are a zero we'll be in your backyard. very extreme rhetoric and even compared to previous days. it is escalating and not deescalating you have to wonder to what end we have someone ready, who was that former republican senator judge gre greg is on the line with us. senator greg, i wonder your thoughts in this historical moment >> well, i guess you can call it historical i would call it disgusting and unacceptable and inexcusable and destruction arbitrarily by our
6:28 pm
leader of the constitution it is incredibly discouraging to all americans i suspect with the exception that those who are foolish enough to be participating in this event and it comes down to leadership. what you seen over the last few weeks in attempt of getting an electoral process. it didn't come out the way we wanted to but it was our election it was held fairly all the states have the right to hold their election as they proceed forward and to the extent there were issues about their honesty or correctness they have been challenged in court and those challenges have not been held up so now you got this group of senators unfortunately and the president the vice president who have basically said oh, we don't accept the electoral college because we don't think it is
6:29 pm
fair and we don't think -- and the fact that he thinks he won the election which is absurd the fact that members of my own party have tried to undermine that process and undermine the rule of law and the process undermining the constitution is reprehensible at the highest level and today these folks who some of them i am sure they are protesting and a lot of them are there because they want vviolent he knew that and the people around him >> even as it continued and the
6:30 pm
capitol was occupied and under sieged by his own supporters who would come to hear him, he did not step forward he did not order the guards, the vice president did according to "the new york times. he still had not spoken and his most recent utterances are to egg it on. republicans have shut up and stood by is this time for this president to be pushed aside >> well, i have to say i was not one of the ones who was quiet about this presidency for a long time >> obviously >> he undermined our character and our alliances. he's got 20 days less, less than 20 days now left in his term and it is over for him as a sitting
6:31 pm
president and now he leaves the office in total disgrace you would think he would be embarrassed about it but i don't think he would be capable of being embarrassed. what's more failure is the failure of leadership to both sides of the isle of our political process. l you look at what's happening in seattle and portland and now even worse in washington because we have the senate government being invaded and it is just not correct, both sides of the isle have said this is wrong and this can't stand. we have to put an end to it. >> one more thing before we go, you know earlier tl president sent out that twitter message and i have not seen it and it aired and it was a pack of lies. we cut it off. now, another of those moments that i have not seen after three decades in journalism where in
6:32 pm
journalistic organization, there is as group called standards who says you can't do this and that. we are not allowed to show that video anymore because it was just packed with lies. we are at a new place in america and good republicans like yourself and by that i mean traditional republicans of the old republicans' thought and mind, no one is saying he's got to go. we see the escalation each day and now we have escalated to the occupation of the capitol. >> where does this end, have you thought about it like that >> i do think that obviously, i didn't see the tape and i don't know what he said, i do think it is a bit hyperbole to say this, i mean this is obviously this is an event of violent and it is going to be terminated by the law enforcement community.
6:33 pm
they'll relate to this it will be terminated. i don't think it will continue and i don't think our nation will tolerate it i believe good people will step forward to say enough is enough to stop this we are a good nation filled with good people. we have a culture that's built around the idea of freedom but not violence and as a practical matter, those core values of ours will survive. this president and this day and i suspect this will hopefully be a transitory event and in 20 days we'll have a different president so it will be irrelevant what our current president thinks at this specific time, irrelevant to his power and the presidency >> former senator judge gregg, republican of new hampshire. thank you so much for your time. >> thank you congressional reporter for
6:34 pm
axios, she's still inside the capitol, elena, i presume where you have been throughout the day, is the lockdown still on and the capitol is clear what can you tell us >> reporter: well, still in lockdown i was actually in the senate chamber when they locked the doors and locked all the senators and staff and reporters inside then we were ushered together and evacuated into a second part of the capitol and that's where i am still now i have been asked not to share where we are for reasons i am sure you can understand. we are still here and still in lockdown and we are starting to hear that the building and the complex has been secure, we are waiting for the next step and getting back to session. sfoom what did you hear and see if anything as all of this chaos
6:35 pm
was developing >> well, so i was on the senate side like i said and i was inside the room and in the area when they had split to each session and the college vote in arizona. after not long they begun their debate, you start to hear gunshots on the level below and a lot of screaming and what was happening and a lot of chaos and when staff and capitol police started shoving people into the chambers and they secured it and locked it. i think everyone has been confused and shaken. i didn't see anyone or any shots fired or any of the protesters, i was able to escape kind of with the rest of the senate before we were able to see any of that. we did hear some of the
6:36 pm
commotion as we were stuck inside the chamber >> back to the beginning of it all, as i have said with other reporters, we knew today was potential chaos, they have prepared for chaos did the capitol seemed properly secure to you? you know the place well. >> you know i think is hard to say now. i think there needs to be a comprehensive look of what their planning and procedures were for this to have happen and this stuff allowed, i think they had known for some time now there is going to be mass protests. we have seen some of this planning online for some of the protrump group and so it is a huge failure for capitol police if i am being quite honest and the city not being able to keep it under
6:37 pm
control. >> thanks so much to you and your colleague we have two statements, one from mit romney and one from speaker pelosi the long and short of pelosi's statement is their work is going to continue tonight. >> today a shameful assault was made on our democracy, it was anoited in the highest level of government it can't deter us from the responsibility to validate the election of joe biden. live picture as i read now as capitol police work to restore orders the speaker goes onto that end >> leader hoyer will be sending out more guidance later today.
6:38 pm
we already knew responsibility would take us into the night and the night may still belong we are hope for shorter agenda but our purpose will be accomplished he's calling without question for the questioning of the objection to of the show the republicans are putting on she's hoping that'll not happen tonight. time will tell we'll have a reporting throughout the evening another statement much more forceful came from mit romney who has been vocal in his protestation regarding the president. he does not meant any words quoting now, this would have been read on the senate floor had the senate not occupied by demonstrators. we gathered today due to a selfish man injured pride and the outrage of supporters who he
6:39 pm
misinformed for the past two months and stirred to action this very moment what happened here today he said was insurrection insig cited byh president of the united states, those who choose to continue to support his dangerous game will forever be seen as being complicit and an unprecedented attack in our democracy. they'll be remembered in our shameful episode of history. that, will be their democracy. back to andy carr, is there anything left to be said to this president? you were a chief of staff to george w. bush, what would you do at this moment? >> george w. bush was elected in a controversial and decided by
6:40 pm
the supreme court and we were well treated by al gore who could have been obstructionist, she w he was not he recognized the responsibility i participated many transitions into office including george h.w. bush coming into office and bill clinton when bill clinton came into office, the one term that he succeeded and disappointed that but he made sure things will go well and the baton would be passed and you understand what the baton would feel like before you took it. that was a wonderful experience to be celebrating our democracy. i am also the chairman of the democracy. what's happening of our country right now is tarnishing our democracy around the world and compromising our ability to lead the world. i want us to come together as a
6:41 pm
nation and recognizing that president trump is not going to be the next president. president-elect biden will take the office of the presidency >> we are hearing a reporter's conversation, we should probably turn that down for a second. andy card is with us, the chief of staff of president george w. bush we have report from inside the white house that the president is being urged to speak. i wonder from your experience and your knowledge with republicans across the hill, if senator cruz may back down in the light of these events from this bit of showmanship that's been going on. i guess the police that trump baits, i don't understand it, if you do please share. >> i don't understand.
6:42 pm
you and i are in the same mind i hope ted cruz and house members are looking to contest the critical success of our democracy and question the ability of our democracy to have the people's will be revealed and acted upon so that we have a new president. i am hoping that senator cruz and others anxious to outline what they see is problems with our election and instead take out a buffing cloth and buff and polish our democracy so the world can see it we'll have a new president, he'll take office on january 20th at noontime i am hoping the senate and the house members will recognize the speedometer responsibility of the people they elected by and the under pending of our democracy, the constitution will be implemente and it can't be violated because the will of the president is not
6:43 pm
what it wanted to be it did not work out the way donald trump wanted. he lost. he's proven to be a bigger loser than just losing the election by how he's acting and what he's doing in the transfer of hour. >> do you worry it is more than that and the question looms and lingers for years now and observations without opinion would be what vladimir putin would want we know this because he told us. he wants it to turn it against ourselves and make it in a way where he expands where he has an economy is collapsing and this plays right into his hands and i wonder your thoughts on that and the matter that you fully understand what you describe is very credible >> venezuela was commenting on
6:44 pm
what was happening in washington, d.c. we were the ones that would stand up and be the gold standard for democracy we were the ones that can say we can do it right, we know how to transition power from one person to another person. that's all right, that's what a democracy does yes, we are playing right into the hands of those who are enemies of our democracy vladimir putin and i am sure the chinese are cheering and our way is a better way. no, our way in this country is a better way we want our leaders to reflect that that's why i care so much of democracy. the people is open and the states exercised their significance responsibility where the electoral college have its base and every electoral was certified. people met in those state capitols picked their electorates and sent the vote to
6:45 pm
washington, d.c. to be counted they have the correct votes. they should be certified and opened and counted we should be ready to inaugurate a new president on january 20th, that'll happen i am hoping it will happen quickly. yes, we are in the hands of our democracy around the world >> it is sad as it is. all of this was just a show, you know, this standing up and objecting was a no-no among every single person that understands the process. they're not doing anything but playing for their own political goals, they're not doing anything to advance democracy or the call for a peaceful transiti transition it is all there. that was an under taken without question and factual it is farcical and no one with
6:46 pm
any knowledge of the process or the system thought it was anything of ridiculous or politics only. if they go ahead and do it tonight after the capitol was occupied by the people who came out by the trump rally are we in a different place in our opinion? >> the belt of truth is not worn by enough people right now the truth says this election was not an illegitimate election this election was not filled with enough fraud to say the people's voice can't be heard and the will will be done for the people we got to do it rigthe right wa. everyone in america should be sad today and resolved to make sure we should never repeat it
6:47 pm
>> andy card chief of staff of george w. bush your thought on the statements that the former president made today. >> the statement about our view of capitol hill or the statement when he was saying go out and fight, march to capitol hill >> i am talking about george w. bush's statement today >> he's a remarkable man, he celebrates the intuitions of our democracy and yes, i am sure he's very sad today to see what is happening as people are storming the capitol and denying the process of our electoral, final decision to be made. i was pleased he put out a statement, he tries not to
6:48 pm
comment on everything that's happening in politics. he understands the importance of respecting our constitutions and the institutions that are apart of our government. obviously the capitol is the greatest symbol of our institution of the people's house. that's where our representative are. i want our representatives to know that the american people are celebrating a democracy, we are not trying to tear it down please do not succumb to the mob rule that's being invited right now. >> i am short on time. you said when you first joined us here tonight, andy, that you felt like crying today and -- >> i did cry >> i know i did. george w. bush is a man who talks openly about his emotions and how tears would find him if there is ever been a sadder time, just plain sad in america,
6:49 pm
domestically, i don't remember it i can't imagine george w. bush was dry eyed today >> i can't imagine thank you very much for having me, shep this is a sad day for america. let's not repeat it and restore our confidence and our way is a much better way than a communist system the will of the people is not even respected >> it certainly is >> while you were saying good-bye, something happened the white house just called a lid. that means there will be no statement of the president of the united states. all of the people around him have been urging him my producer have said to me in
6:50 pm
my ear that his family asked him to do so any way, i have to go to eamon javers right now eamon, what was the lid? >> reporter: we don't know white house staffs are grappling with the event that'sover taken the trump administration today i can tell you i have been texting and e-mailing with a number of current white house officials today. one official tells me that there are mid level people inside the white house who are disgusting resignation today but there is no expectation that any senior white house people would resign in the wake of today's event and the way the president has conducted himself. this former white house official telling me about half a dozen of people in the white house today are talking about the possibility of resignation no resignation in protest at all from any trump people in the white house that we know of just
6:51 pm
now. this is described not a huge number the fear is from some of these people they'll be criticized from doing too little too late in terms of any potential resignations i can tell you a former white house official tells me that idea is being discussed right now. i can tell you there is a line of thinking inside the white house about the idea of resigning that if you do that, you will be criticized for having stayed past all sorts of points and done too little and too late and resign of the last couple of days the president is doing what you have been describing and sending out these tweets and failing to take a bold public leadership role here in suppressing this. we are hearing from nbc news that some white house aide shaken by the event that
6:52 pm
