traders. >> inflation is at an all time high for the last 40 years, i want to get your analysis on what you see happening within the next couple months and quarter, two, quarter three. do you think we're heading into a bear market, major sell off or do you think we continue the bull run thank you for your time. have a great day >> it comes as we kick off a rough start for the year the dow down 1.2%. s&p 500 down the real pain being felt in the tech trade nasdaq dropping more than 5% to start the year back to bryan's question, are we headed into a bear market or will the bull run continue good evening to you. s >> how are you i'm so excited
6:02 pm
i'm fired up for this friday night. i don't know the definition necessarily. i don't know if it matters but i'll say this for a lot of stocks, as you know, they are already in not only bear market territory but some of them are in crash territory i'll say this, if you watch sarah abetween 3:00 and 5:00, se does an amazing job interviewing the fed officials. >> thank you we try >> the most important thing going son this 180 the fed has done i'll say this, we learned about the resilience of the market i think you will continue to see that i think 4530 which is about 120 or so is your level to take another look i think grsteve grasso would concur >> do you concur >> i never want to leave guy hanging. i concur on his level to the down side.
6:03 pm
the market sets up to hurt the most amount of people at any given time what does that mean? usually the opposite happens if you're looking for three, four or foive rate hikes you're not going to get them. i feel as if inflation is transitory transitory is a very gray, opaque word. i still think we're in that transitory category. if inflation starts to die down, then chairman powell is not going to be hard pressed to do anything >> that would be good for the market, right? >> it would be good for the market i think you're going to get a very choppy first quarter and then you're going to see everything ignite again. maybe it's not going to be the peletons or the zooms or the really high multiple names but in tech you're going to get
6:04 pm
plenty of great value in tech. i think those names will be bought again >> how does this fit into your view of the market in next few months >> i agree with steve. i think the area most people should be concerned about is the part of the market that's already in a bear market some of the names he just mentioned and that we were talking about in the prior half hour, i'm talking about the constituent stocks. you have to take a look at it on the basis of where rates are not just trying to guess where you think they're going to be three, six, nine or 12 months from now.
6:05 pm
the higher flying end is probably the ones i want to avoid. >> those aren't the only ones in a bear market which is defined as 20%s off the high >> i don't think the story in nvidia has changed at all nor do i think the story of netflix has changed. what has changed is the stocks. the only thing that's changed secondis the inflation fears. the nvidia story is real

chips will have a supply demand issue. right now you can't get any supply you'll see a lot of the stocks fall off a cliff >> let's get to our next question >> i'm nidal i'm from irvine, california. the question is apple. do you buy, trim or hold i bought it at $52 now it's 62% of my portfolio kramer didn't sell it. what do you think? >> first of all, congrats on the gain of apple stock.
6:08 pm
does steve grasso sell it? >> no, i still own apple every time you try to trade am, you lose you're never going to sell it at top and never going to pick that bottom think about what this year will hold ar, vr i know we have been talking about car forever. there's going to be something there whether they work in collaboration with an ev company or not there's going to be a host of positive catalysts for apple i think the stock is headed towards 200. people are going to return to this name. i'm staying in it. i would not like to sell it. he's got an incredible gain. if he wants a trim, trim >> do you agree? talking about whether the demand has been pulled forward for a company like apple with the pandemic
6:09 pm
do you think there's fresh catalysts? >> i think it's always a mistake to bet against the next thing that apple is going to drop on us anybody who tried to make that over the course of the last ten years has paid painful price the real issue that i have for nidal on this is not apple so much but actually the relative concentration portfolio that he just described having. 62% of your portfolio is a lot to have anything in. if you owned your own business, that might make some sense i think some diversification makes sense. maybe meta is another place. you can spread your chips around
6:10 pm
some more. >> my question is on vvisa will an improvement of travel and fin tech companies and possibility of higher interest rates milwaukee visa a long term buy. where do you see at the end of 2022 >> this is a good one because the payment stocks have been under performers >> look at visa. it's at 252 stock all time high seemingly a few months ago it's had a pretty prepcipitous drop when things go sour, the first thing they look at is valuation.
6:11 pm
they are transaction based transactions continue to go higher i think the damage has opinion done to the stock. it usually got the benefit of the doubt sdplp that's a great question we talk about the word legacy is coming to play a lot over the last six months or so. obviously people lump visa and mastercard into that legacy. paypal is getting more of a fin tech thing which was great a few months ago but now the finteches have been beaten up. i don't think visa an mastercard deserve the same multiple as a paypal i think the two, the chasm has closed i think it will continue to
6:12 pm
close. >> down 26% in the last year and taking a leg lower even under visa let's take a tweet question. what is the best etf to buy in these volatile times mike we'll give that one to you >> sure. well, actually i'm going to talk about general exposure and say that to have exposure to the s&p 500 is never a bad idea if you're thinking long term. i don't want to play favorites there's a couple of different ways to do that. the best known is spy. ivv and voo are s&p 500 tracking etfs i think those would be equally good candidates, maybe better because their fees are slightly lower. >> boring. steve, any good etf ideas? >> i'm going to give you probably one that's just as boring it's the staple.
6:13 pm
>> it's even more boring sdplp what do you do in volatile times. like where i can i buy most exciting you're going to get a 2.5% yield on it. you're going to own all those steady, eddie stocks while you can wait it out through the rough time, through the rough seas we all agree the first quarter will be the choppiest of the entire year before we get back on track i would say xlp for $300 >> i wouldn't arguing with you i was saying that's what's working in this market multi-year record highs for all of these names
6:14 pm
the mexican peso, that's exciting >> it's a different call >> not necessarily i wanted to make you happy on this friday night. if you think volatility is coming, i think one of the reasons it will be coming is because oil has opinion going a lot higher, which i do believe to steve's earlier point and i think the oih which is about to break out for the first time in a long time 1.230 is the place you want to be >> oil services. >> you know what funny, i bought a tie bot for the kids for christmas. you got to see this thing running around the house it's incredible. >> good one. have you used that joke before or is that first time? >> no. sd >> got to love the bot we're just getting started here. stick with us. we're tackling questions on air bnb, ford and the banks. keep the questions coming our way. we'll get to them on air we'll be right back after this short break.

welcome back all hour long we're tracking your investor questions. next up, a question on shopify >> my name is dante. i'm calling from south florida today my question is about shock e shopify. i did pick up some shares for 10.65 earlier this week. yen we're entering this unpredictable and unstable environment when it comes to interest rates i want to get your opinion on whether you guys thinkthis was a good entry level for a long term hold with the whole christmas shopping system being incorporated into the next earnings report and hopefully looking promising or if this is situation where the risk outweighs the reward >> let's go do mike on shopify
6:19 pm
it's been declining since november which has taken it down in terms of the 12 month performance. what the you do next >> this is a company trading at a pretty lofty valuation that's not a knock on their business model i think i can sort of see why he was picking it up around this level. if you take a look, it might have looked like we're hitting an area where they could be some measure of support but on a risk reward basis, the high valuation names are just kind of a sticky, tricky place to be in this first quarter. i'd proebbably avoid this one >> what is the right valuation for a company like there in this environment.
6:20 pm
what level does it need to be at >> it's impossible to come down an exact level as far as p/e ratio. he picked it up at an extraordinary price. he went back to, i think you said this in entry of the question, he picked it up on may support level. this stock has price wings on a daily base sis of between 60 and $100 if that support breaks, you're talking about a drastic, but he can make a lot of money day trading with stocks.
6:21 pm
>> do we expect to see earnings from air bnb and what's the outlook for 2022 >> i know you watch cnbc last year we did we did the acronyms where you put letters together to make a word and it's all stocks this year we did it again. the a in my dawn trade was air bnb. if you look at the airlines, look at expedia and look at names like air bnb, they're getting back on the horse. i love air bnb here. i love the name. >> just as a secular growth player, you don't think the
6:22 pm
traditional hotels that have missed out while air bnb was popular because of the way we like to travel and live might get a bigger upper hand over an air bnb? >> maybe i think there's a secular shift that was going on prior. i don't think it's necessarily changed. i think air bnb will win i've talked to people about this it's not just obviously people renting the homes, the apartments, what have you. there's these tertiary businesses that will make money on as well i hate the word but i'll use it on this friday night, a fly wheel effect around air bnb. >> all right you sound like a south side analyst. up next, a question on ford. that stock in over drive this year one viewer wants to know if it's time to pump the brakes. we'll find out later we're rolling the dice on the casinos is this a winning trade in 2022? we have all that and more when we come back
6:23 pm

6:26 pm
welcome back >> my name is araz and i reside in california. being a fairly new investor, i saw it in the ev market. i purchased ford immediately after the news on their new electric car as ford is gaining momentum, is this the right time to add to my position or wait for potential pull back? >> i know you were just talking about this yesterday you are fan of ford, is it too late to get in >> it's later obviously, i'm not trying to be glib. the stock that gone from high single digits to where we are now.
6:27 pm
i think you're probably going to see a pull back might be low 20s, 23.5 or so. i stand by it. i think this stock has a 30 handle on it the question you have to ask yourself is can you wait till the mid to low 20s or you want to buy here or maybe layer in. i love the name. i think on valuation it's still compelling i think it's going to continue to grinds higher >> mike, do you agree? i do agree one of things we have gotten used to is the mid low single digit p/es now ford is trading at nine times. if you're interested in evs, you have exposure beyond f-150 which will be in the largest selling vehicle category if you want to play the ev s
6:28 pm
space -- >> since the coo is leaving, i'd like to know what is your opinion on how this will affect the stock price in the future. thank you. >> grasso, we'll give you that one. >> i'm still long. the stock price has been affected drastically it traded at a high of almost 180 and now it's trading around that ipo price, sarah. it's already been affected the company will come out and say that this departure was already planned. i don't know whether that's true, not true i don't care there's reasons why people leave. i think the bigger news today on a granular basis is tesla was going to push off their delivery of the cyber truck which means that rivian and ford will probably beat them to market on
6:29 pm
that pickup truck. huge seller. ev, huge seller. rivian is going to be there. it's going to be there it has a pile of cash, sarah they're not going to be wanting for any cash this is a stock sitting on billions >> and the amazon partnership. >> and amazon. over 20% amazon partnership as well >> right parking land grab for lithium and hot new trading opportunities. there's no slow down in price.
6:30 pm
lithium on the stock market. it was 85% catching buyers off guard. it's challenging and expensiexp. after a period of low prices, producers have scaled back supply will triple by 2030 but demand will quintuple. all three hit record highs in november but are down sharply since. in addition to being capital intensive, mining projects face political head winds a lot of things to watch
6:31 pm
>> thank you you've been all over this trend. what's the pesbest way to play ? >> i don't know if i have the best way the play it but the highest is mp materials. the stock is up 41% on a yearly basis. mp terms seem to be the pest way to play this name. bhp is only up 1% in the last year we have to invest in rare earth sd >> that's a nice thought materials have kind of under performed as a sector this year.
6:32 pm
what do you think about opportunities that go into ev and stocks that are producers? >> first of all, i love the fact you're dropping nickel at ten year highs you would have been an amazing commodities trader i'll stand by that >> cause i check the daily price of nickel? >> i'm just telling you. you would have crushed it. trust me on this one >> thank you if you believe a secular change, we're in the early innings here. you can deal with the volatility the stock has sold off to me lac is the way to play it. >> what about you mike do you have a lithium play as well >> i think what steve was talking about makes a lot of sense. the pure plays are going to exhibit that higher volatility and the kind of stuff that's tearing up the more volatile
6:33 pm
sectors will play there as well. i think this trading at ten times earnings even if you weren't thinking about that and you're e just wondering whether materials might be all right at these current valuations, i think they are. >> thank you to pippa. thank you to you guys. we have much more ahead on this special edition of "fast money," including your set up for next week we're getting a bunch of questions as earning season gets under way. we're tackling them for you, ne xt -hey, fridge, -hey. did you know autotrader lets me shop for cars by monthly payment,

the long term opportunity for growth, i'd like your opinions specifically on citigroup. thanks so much bye bye. >> love the plug it's not too late to join. you can sign up online jim sends amazing ideas tlouts the day and that man works really lard. guy, what's the right bank to be in and have a potential fed rate hike in march. >> wells fargo has been a monster. i look at a lot of numbers the one i saw sort of laser focused on is tangible book. for citiit came in at $7 t.16.
6:39 pm
i do think citi will trade back the tangible if it's true, it's not bragging. i think citi is interesting here i think citi could be what wells fargo was last year. >> what dro you think of citi? >> both my kid play basketball i'm no help to them at all i've got toleell you. if they played tennis or skiers, i might be able to help them more it's about as wide as i've ever seen it in terms of valuation. i kind of like it here if the market is volatile, ta won't help them great deal of the two, i have to say that
6:40 pm
citi is a good pick. >> jane phrfrazier announced thy are getting out of mexico. she's exited a lot of these consumer banking businesses abroad what is the future of that name and why do you think the stock hasn't really moved up that much on some of her moves >> well, i think -- are you talking to me and steve? i see steve so i'm going to be quiet. >> i missed that too sorry. sometimes i call you grasso. sometime i call you steve. >> oddsly enough they're both my names. i like a stock like u.s. bank taking a totally different direction. i agree with mike and guy that if it breaks out of this level,
6:41 pm
when you luke at a stock like u.s. bank taking a totally different direction it's breaking out of it it look like a double top but it's break out of that level they just call it a shot now there's no more jump in that shot >> which mean it's probably been a while since he's made one. let's go to alex in new jersey >> i'm calling about these fabulous tech deals we have in the market now and more specifically netflix coming out with news today they are going to be raising prices on u.s. and canadian subscribers do you think it will be a god time to buy it my price target is around $620 i wanted to get your opinion of
6:42 pm
what you think >> mike and nice hat to alex in new jersey >> based on the weather i understand y'all have having out there, i can understand why he might be wearing one this is probably more nor the technicians than for me. it's the opportunity and the risk the options market is implying this thing will move about 11% one way or the other we're anticipating some pretty big moves going into this. if you think it will hold this level then this is obviously a technical play to the upside in that respect, i like it there is risk below. >> we do have that news that alex in new jersey mentioned and that is they are raising prices tarting now on the standard package and the entry level package. have you traded around netflix price hikes in the past and what do you think it means for
6:43 pm
revenues. this is a buy. it's right at that august support level. i don't like the fact they are raising prices in this environment. we have to look at how many players. you probably know it better than i but there's more than a handle of players in streaming world right now. i don't want to say the word desperate but it seems as though growth is slowing and they are trying to get a little more juice from a rock now. i don't like it other than the technicals to mike's point, up 11, down 11.

this is up your alley, right for options. >> yeah. i mean, selling covered calls because i don't really see the stock recovering immediately the good news is for the strategy you just talked about, the options premium are exceedingly rich you'll start lowering that cost basis on your holdings if you start selling some upside calls. probably looking at the 26 or 27 strike is where i'd get started. >> let's take another tweet. amazon is up zero percent over the past 18 months shareholders have been begging for a stock psplit. why do you think amazon is drag its feet steve grasso >> stock splits, first of all, i believe and i could be wrong on this and i'm parsing my words that you get a price of a stock that's above $3200, it becomes an ego thing for ceo to say that
