triple jump. she's in group b here trying to join davis woodall in the final. >> the best combination long jump and triple jumper in collegiate history, her first professional season this summer. won every single ncaa championship she was in except one when she was second. not too shabby for the florida gator. >> you will see clay coming up clarity on in the men's triple jump competition. florida has always developed some of the best jumpers not only for team usa but the rest of the world and more. like you said, gaining that experience in world championship, number one. now she's here in her second visit to do more damage. >> first jump is technically solid but a ways to. she's in eighth out of 12.

don't miss the show where deals and dreams come true. watch shark tank sunday through thursday starting 8:00 eastern on cnbc. between the shady bridge and margaret bridge on the right side, hungarian parliament building, down the danube we go to the site of the new athletic center, 35,000 seats, many filled for this round of heats in the women's 1500, world record. that's the first time we get to show that new world record. we'll talk about faith kipyagone
8:14 am
in a moment. let's start on the american side of the story telling and the reigning american champion nicki hiltz. >> they won the u.s. indoor title. then they won outdoor mile and nicki hiltz just had a sensational outdoor championship past the olympic and world gold medalist to win the first out door national title. >> they had a great smile on their face when crossing the line and eugene win indoors in albuquerque running happy, running openly, and in a good head space into this major championship. >> i talked to nicki recently. they were telling me they were just approaching it. they're not focused on the outcome. they're in the present. that seems to be making a huge difference for nicki. i think we have seen nicki run with joy this year. it's been great to see.
8:15 am
>> another story line will follow a couple times today, hassan, another triple and she will appear later on in our evening coverage in the 10,000-meter final. >> if anyone gets to be mad about rain delay it is hassan who is running final of the 10,000 tonight and she needed that extra hour. i am sure she's going to try to get through this preliminary round as easily as possible. >> look at that schedule over the first eight days of competition here in baud pest to try to win or do damage at least on the podium in the 10,000, the 1500, and 5,000-meter, schedule a little bit different for these championships than some of the triples we saw like the ones she trade in tokyo. it wasn't the same hassan last year, not as successful as the year in tokyo. >> in tokyo hassan was
8:16 am
untouchable except one event, the 1500, where she still won bronze. this year she seems to have refound her form. she won her first marathon, won london marathon in 218, is back for the triple. she feels like this excites her, gives a reason to come out. i am sure she's wondering why she wants to do this but i think she'll get through cleanly. >> laura at the line as well, tokyo olympic silver medalist and bronze medalist last year in oregon. we mentioned it in the context of qualifying in the men's chase, if you are just joining and you have been following major global championships, we were talking about sprints where it was two and the next two fastest, no longer the case in these longer distance races. you've got to be one of the first six across the line in each of these four heats to move on. >> we used to be fixated on the
8:17 am
times. it gave advantage to the heats later. none of that matters now. you just need to be in the top six no matter your time. so there is no path to the final if you aren't in the top six. we see laura kind of break out, was boxed in. she's had a rough year. she separated from her long time coach but says she's in a better place. better for her. she's such a gritty competitor. >> they work their way through the first meters in 6612. >> we see hassan at the back. notice that. that's her trademark way of racing. she likes to sit back. when she comes alive, you can see the changes as she decides to engage in the race. she's running the 10,000 so she wants to get through there as
8:18 am
easily as possible. >> hiltz behind mure, a tight pack and hassan beginning her long day in budapest, perfectly happy in the back now with two laps to go. >> i think there are women here feeling each other out. we see the favorites who are expected to be up front hang back and wait. they're eyeing each other, they don't want to be boxed in. there will be a move at some point and they need to have free space. >> hiltz back in the six position as you see the straight on shot down the back stretch after 800 meters in 2:13, hassan for the moment no longer in last but the spread with a laugh and a half to go, she'll have to
8:19 am
cover that. everyone looking for room to run, there is not a lot of room for error. >> that second lap was slower. we start to see people shake things up and they'll come pretty wide. into the final lap they know they need to position themselves well. we'll have a pretty chaotic final lap. hassan, we see her starting to open up and make her way on the outside. >> hiltz now in sixth, jostling on the inside lap to run here, hassan at 9th, 10th position. >> hassan needs to move. hiltz felt very confident in the last championships. we can't tell based on how they look how they're feeling and they felt very confident at this point that they had another to go to. >> a look at hassan. look at how much ground she's
8:20 am
recovered as she moves into third. hiltz in fifth, needs to be in the top six to advance. there are seven up front with 150 to go. >> this is crazy and exciting, and this is a great group of women. this is what we saw from hassan at the tokyo olympics opening up and just obliterating the field. >> hassan and mure, hiltz into third as the american will be comfortably through to the next round and hassan shows patience of a confident seasoned championship runner, gets the job done and can now turn attention to 25 laps later on. >> that was a good warm up for her, right? she just has that poised in the way she moves so quickly. really we don't see that from other athletes. when she decides it's time to move, she absolutely just opens up and it is so quick the way she makes up the track.
8:21 am
>> hiltz getting along as well 4:03. >> it was a quick race and hiltz ran really well, very smart. >> let's get caught up in the high jump competition kjt, a world champion in 2019. >> not only the world champion, she's the class of the field in this event. this is an area where she needs to claw and scrape points back from the three americans who swept the 100-meter hurdles. third attempt right there, very, very clutch for the former world champion out of great britain. >> anna hall will step up, third attempt at 186. >> trying to go bar for bar.
8:22 am
you can see the take off foot slip and a look of shock on anna hall's face as she gingerly gets off the pit here. looks to be okay, but that's a scary, scary sight for the favorite there, the take off giving way ever so slightly. this was the third attempt at this bar, so she'll have time to go back to the restroom, get it looked at, get some physio therapy. we'll have to wait and see what happened and if this is going to affect the rest of her day. >> the rain that came through, there still are some puddles on the surface in some areas of the track but now rather than speculating, let's hear from anna hall who is with lewis johnson. >> the question for you, anna, is what happened on the jump there? >> my leg just gave out on me a little bit. i think it's the time of year
8:23 am
where there are a decent amount of athletes dealing with nicks here and there. i am fine. i will go get some treatment and keep giving it my best. that's all i can do. >> was there an original problem or just a problem in that moment as you tried to make the final step in the approach? >> i have been dealing with some things coming into this meet. but i got to the line as ready as i can be and i feel good about it and still feel like i have a great chance, keep fighting and competing. >> i believe it is new, in that you have a bigger gap between the last events. has that worked to your advantage? >> i think so right now. i have time to get treatment. most of the world schedules have a big gap at some point. this is a little bit bigger than last year. there is a long break after the morning session. but part of that's nice to get treatment and the other part of that is we will be up late tonight and up early in the morning. it just kind of is what it is. it's the same schedule for everybody. just the facts of the matter.
8:24 am
>> thanks for stopping. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> thanks lewis for giving us the opportunity to hear from anna within her competition day. look forward to seeing her back in action a little bit later on. we turn our attention back to the far side of the track. kipyegon. >> she's in the art of her career. everybody is watching what she does. she's at three world records, 1500, mile, the 5,000. she's a force in multiple events but really has owned this event. it's exciting to see her be able to get faster and find motivation to continue to push herself at this level. >> the other thing i reflect upon from having been honored to call the races over the summer, the world records, is the entire community of runners in the discipline celebrating alongside her. she's revered by peers as well.
8:25 am
>> absolutely. i have heard multiple women talk about how they're excited to be part of this history. she's pulled a lot of people to national records, personal bests. being in a race with her assures you it's going to be quick and there is so much appreciation and admiration for her amongst the other women. >> final moments of reflection here before the start of our second of four heats in the women's 1500. from poland, a late add to the group. so there are 14 women to the field. you see the start list unfolding on the left side of your screen as we go down the line here. no americans in this second heat. hiltz, if you are just joining us, did advance to the next round out of heat number one.
8:26 am
all eyes on kipyegon. fourth last year. >> she's moved to the 1500 flawlessly, has seemed to improve as the year has gone on and has been in top three in every race. certainly a chance for a medal at these championships. >> sarah healy of of ireland wearing number seven, third fastest irish woman at the distance and kipyegon will get a warm welcome from the crowd. i have to mention she took a step away to start her family and came back better than ever and represents all that is great about being a top flight female athlete in 2023 and i have to say prohibitive favorite in this event. great thing about championship racing is it's different than
8:27 am
the last months where you put the pace setters and lights ahead of you and do the records. >> i think the worst was 2015 was a silver medal and silver medal in 2019. so she really knows what she's doing. sure we are used to seeing her all summer chase the times. but there is no way she can be two time olympic champion if she wasn't. >> her standing with her hands on her hips saying can we just get this going? >> let's go. >> second heat of the women's 1500-meter preliminary round, top six will automatically advance. kipyegon not going to play the hassan game by starting in the back. she's going to the front right away. >> sometimes the favorites just want to get through, especially on this early round.
8:28 am
anything she runs will feel comfortable and relaxed to her. she's not actually pressing when in front but seeing a clean track in front of her. everyone will be keying off of her. all the women are looking to her and seeing what she's doing. they know she's the greatest of all time and will key off of her. >> you know everyone behind looking for room to run. there is jostling, no margin for error with a group this large in the field even though they're slowing and recompacting themselves as they cross the finish line for the first time. just more dangerous and i guess you choose one of two. either lead it and stay out of the way or stay in the back and use speed to move up in the latter stages. >> that's a dangerous play because every runner thinks they have the best kick. it's interesting. i have heard so many athletes say the early round are the scariest part because something can go wrong. then you don't get to perform
8:29 am
on the way. >> it creates six separate races and they'll be their own system. >> the first lap for this second heat about a second slower but again time does not matter anymore. no time qualifiers in the longer distances. you simply have to be in the top six at the end of the race and you advance to the next round. 800 meters to run alongside kipyegon, melissa courtney brian of great britain, record holder number three all time on the british all time list, healy the ireland runner in third, 800 meters back a few years ago running alongside in fourth, go
8:30 am
through 800 meters in 2:15, a second lap about the same as the first, 67.5. >> that's pedestrian for the women. it's almost lake they're afraid to pass kipyegon. they want her in their sight. now they're saying hey, this is too slow. we are going to make it a little bit faster. >> that was spain, the reigning national champion making her fourth appearance outdoors in a world championship there back in fifth position. healy looking for room on the inside, sabotini behind them, some jostling with bryant maybe taking a stutter step or two. kipyegon. >> i expect both of the women to get through the round easily but it is scary because you can get tripped up. they haven't separated themselves from the pack. everyone still has a chance. you never know what will happen. >> lead now through about ten women as they
