new york could be the sixth state to legalize gay marriage. supporters need one more republican to back the bill before the legislative session ends this week. the big man of the music word has died. clarence clemons was the saxophonist with bruce springsteen's, street band for almost 40 years. his ability to do blues, jazz, funk made him a favorite with other art itselves as well. the 6'4" clemons died from complications of an a stroke. he was 69. in the western u.s., wildfires are sbreding at an alarming rate. and today, firefighters are confronting some of the worst weather conditions in the season. weather conditions, high heat,

low humidity and winds pose an extreme fire risk. >> the number one priority for firefighters, a massive blaze in south eastern arizona. a monument fire. and weather conditions are as bad as they can get. thelma gutierrez is live there from sierra vista. what are they up against? >> reporter:ky tell you, it's going to be hot and you can tell, it's already windy. temperatures are expected to hit 101 degrees. if you take a look at the ridge over my shoulder where it's all smokey, throughout is where firefighters had to fight the fire. the primary defense is air defense. the winds are gusting at 150 miles an hour and so aircraft have been grounded. flames raced down steep canyons

into grasslands, igniting a ten-foot-high wall of flames. high winds forced the evasion of 7,000 residents who fled with whatever they can carry. >> i may not come back to anything. i don't know. >> reporter: it hasn't rained since december. a drought, high temperatures and strong winds has made the fire disastrous. >> looking up at the mountains. very, very difficult terrain. steep, a lot of canyons and elevation there. very difficult to get fire response in there. that is mostly an air response area. as you come lower out of the mountains, you are talking, you know, oak trees and grasslands. and once it breaks out in the grassland there is nothing to stop it. >> reporter: more than 700 firefighters have come from all over the country to help battle the tire near the u.s./mexican

the south and more bad weather. strong storms have flared across georgia and other neighboring states this weekend. knocks down trees and lightning is believed to have struck this house in the atlanta suburb. one of the neighbors caught the flame on video. let's check with jackie jeras. this is the entire year. >> i know, it keeps me in business. >> but it's dangerous. >> yeah there are a lot of dangers out there. and that is going to don't be an issue. severe storms that like the one that rumbled through the atlanta area are going be possible. as we take a look at the map, not a lot of action but we think things are going to fire up here. and the storm prediction center issues a moderate risk of thunderstorms in nebraska, kansas, colorado and iowa. large hail, damaging winds and

isolated tornados are going to be possible here. and the complex of thunderstorms expected to move through the middle mississippi river and ohio river valleys. the other weather concerns, the fires that have been continuing to burn. we heard about the monument fire that continues to be raging out of control at this hour. and the winds today this is the big deal. the winds are going to be gusting as much as 50 miles an hour. that is going allow a lot of torching. we are going to get embers blowing ahead of the fire and starting smaller fires. it's a very large area where we have the fire conditions. and. s pushing towards 100 degrees. relative humidity down there n the single digits. low humidity, below 30%. weapon are talking 7% to 10%. that is extremely dry. the one thing we are looking forward to, by the way, the

monsoon season. seasoned that in india? yeah, we have that in arizona too and it usually gets going around the fourth of july. it gets very, very dry and we get a thermal low. and the water temperatures are cooler. it starting to fill into the area. the moisture in the pacific and that combines to the heat and we start to get thunderstorms. as long as we get that seasonal sift of the winds, we will see the thunderstorms start to pick up. we don't see signs that the monsoon is going to kick it in article. and boy, we need that moisture. we take a look at the drought monitor. arizona, new mexico, texas. all of this area that is dark like that. the dark brown color here. that is an exceptional drought.

testimony resumes tomorrow in the murder trial of casey anthony. for three weeks, we heard from experts who examined the e mains. the defense is challenging the testimony of the experts. yesterday, i asked if the experts thought that casey anthony should take the stand. >> she cannot. she must not take the stand. if she does, slee be convicted and sentenced to death. she is a serial liar. she has no credibility. forget about the claims of incest. it doesn't matter now. the forensics are the key to the case. >> the other thing, frederika.
