town wins a $950 million lottery jackpot. you heard right. all except one guy who missed out on it. we start with this. we're just a few hours away from the start of the nevada caucuses. it is the fifth contest in the republican presidential race, but the first one to take place west of the mississippi we will have much more on that in just a moment. but first, here are some of the other top stories we are watching for you this morning. in syria anti-government activists say the military is randomly bombing residential neighbors. it has been the center of the uprising in syria. activists say as many as 260 people including women and children have been killed in the past day alone. cnn has not independently confirmed the accounts, though. here is what one brave activist told our anderson cooper last night. >> they have been bombarding an

a area for like three hours with tank shells because a part of the syrian army led down to welcome the syrian army. so they bombard randomly with tank shells. in the first half hour we have 40 people dead. now we have about 200 dead. there are still people all around we can't move them. all the buildings and human beings, kids dead, women dead, men dead. we can't get medication in. they're shooting at the civilian cars. we're trying 00 to get medication in there. we can't help them. they bombard them now. people are trying to move bodies out of the street and putting their lives at risk. people are getting killed just to move the bodies from the street, just to move the bodies so they can bury them and they're getting killed for

moving bodies. that's bravery. nobody is helping us. the u.n. isn't helping us, the arab league. people are sitting here and they're dying while they're having a discussion. they kill millions. we will remember that no one did anything about it. >> the details are hard to to listen to. in just a few hours the united nations security council is scheduled to meat to consider the situation in syria and possibly try to force the government to stand down. we'll have a live report there. you have to see the scene here in egypt. protesters have clashed with e police in several cities. they are angry at what is perceived as a lack of police action during deadly riots at a soccer game this week. 79 people died in those riots. nine people have died in these post riot protests as you see here. police say protesters have been pelting officers with bird shot and molotov cocktails. the group of hackers known as anonymous, they're at it again.

this time they secretly record add phone call between the fbi and scotland yard discussing the investigation into hacking attacks. here are some of the conversation anonymous posted on one of their websites. >> ryan cleary and james davis due in court on the 27th. we've set back the further arrests of kayla and t-flow, that being [ bleep ] and [ bleep ], until we know what's happening. >> law enforcement source tells cnn this is basically vandalism. the fbi is now investigating. the army has decided private bradley manning will face a court-martial for allegedly orchestrating the biggest intelligence leak in u.s. history. he is blamed for leaking sense is tiff military and diplomatic material to wikileaks. manning could face life in prison if convicted by the military court. no date has been set are for the trial yet. a massive hard boiled egg recall is under way. a minnesota company is recalling around a million eggs that went

to 34 states. those eggs could be tainted with listeria which can cause sometimes deadly infections. none of the eggs went straight to consumers, though. they are usually used by grocery chains and other stores in things like egg salad or maybe unprepared salads. for more information go to fda.gov. the justice department has dropped its investigation into claims that champion cyclist lance armstrong used performance enhancing drugs. lance armstrong says he is gratified by that decision. fellow cyclists claimed armstrong was doping when he won the tour detransseven times. the justice department is not explaining why it dropped the case. big story today, want to get back to politics in the nevada republican caucuses. this is the first contest west of the mississippi. voting there is still a few hours away. here is one of the latest polls out of nevada. you can see that mitt romney holds a double-digit lead over

newt gingrich. cnn's joe johns has more on the final rush for support. >> reporter: susan, as the race for the nevada caucuses enters the homestretch, the mitt romney campaign was hoping their candidate was well positioned to score a victory here just like he did four years ago. it was a bizarre week in politics, though, with donald trump stirring up a publicity firestorm before finally publicly endorsing romney for president. romney did not help his own case with his comments on cnn that he was not concerned about the poor because there's a safety net for them. he later said he misspoke. meanwhile, newt gingrich, the former speaker of the house, tried to capitalize on the romney misstep promoting his own plans to create jobs and improve the economy. texas congressman ron paul was also attracting large crowds in the state of nevada with his anti-war smaller government

jobs added last month. the unemployment rate has dropped to 8.3%. that is down from 8.5%. at this rate all 4.6 million jobs lost during the obama a administration could be recovered by election day. here is the president. >> these numbers will go up and down in the coming months and there are still far too many americans who need a job or need a job that pays better than the one they have now. but the economy is growing stronger. the recovery is speeding up. and we've got to do everything in our power to keep it going. >> here is a breakdown for you. the group that saw the biggest gains, after rican-american unemployment is still the highest of any ethnic group but it came down more than two full percentage points in january. hispanics dropped half a percent and white men over 20 dropped 3.3%.

those jobs numbers had a profound impact on the financial markets. the dow jumped 150 points to finish at its highest point in four years. the nasdaq was also up hitting its highest point in more than a decade. it has been kind of a warm winter, haven't you noticed? new york, i believe, in the high 40s today. it is february. meteorologist reynolds wolf is in the weather center with what is coming up and colorado has been the big story, but i assume that it's because it happened all at once. >> absolutely. colorado has really had a deficit of snowfall. many places have been making their own snow for quite a while. many of them stopping now because they have a great dose of snowfall. if you take a look at the map, it's not just the snow story today. the snow leaving the rockies, moving into the central plains. some could see a foot of snow. if you follow the line of storms it curls back over to the great lakes and south to texas. nearly 1,000 miles, in fact, with scattered showers and storms, perhaps even flash flooding before the day is out. it's a busy weather day. we'll tackle it all in a few

are you flashing back to christmas? the storm is moving east. good news for you. fun skiing out there. welcome back. it is 11 after the hour. parts of colorado have been slammed over the past day or so by a major snowstorm. airlines were forced to cancel hundreds of flights. a snow removal crew of nearly 500 plan to work throughout the storm to keep the airport running. but more cancellations are expected today because of that backup. meteorologist reynolds wolf is here now, and the big story is denver. it's moving out of that area which is good news. >> huh? >> huh? >> i'm sorry. ♪ the weather outside is frightful ♪ >> hearing that this time of the year, are it's like having cotton candy with steak sauce. the two just don't fit together. >> i thought the same thing. how odd. >> the same mindset. we're seeing the big transition into parts of the rockies and into denver where they had the backu

backups. they had the travel nightmares. now they're beginning to move into the central plains. as you gander at this map, one big white area in the middle of the map. at least to omaha and wichita. yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is your snow to the tune of 8 to 12 inches before all is said and done. a delay under an hour. minneapolis due to the fog, minor backups. the same deal in cincinnati but because of rain. houston, thunderstorms is the bottom half of the system and in san diego, if you've ever flown into san diego, it's pretty close -- at least the airport -- close to the bay area. might have the marine layer that might keep you grounded for a little bit. delays expected under an hour. this is the big ice -- you see denver on the left-hand side of the screen. that's where you will have your advisories, your watches, your warnings and the big target we'll see will be around omaha, n nebraska. for the next 24 hours we expect it to stack up. anywhere from 6 to 8. i'm going to call for a bit higher. i would not be surprised if we have a few drifts in excess of a foot of snow. other than that strong showers

keaton on where to take the president's body. >> regards to the taking care of the remains of the president kennedy and we are planning on having the president's remains taken directly to walter reed. probably mrs. kennedy will also be going out there. but we will clarify that later. >> oh, all right. >> reporter: but it wasn't clarified. just minutes earlier secret service head jerry bane called another official with the president in dallas saying the remains should be taken to another military hospital. >> arrangements have been made for a helicopter for the bethesda naval medical center. >> reporter: the president was taken to bethesda. for decades they say his autopsy was mishandled, even part of a conspiracy. >> the government had no protocol for having an youautop something no one ever thought would be necessary. they were completely unprepared. >> reporter: the tapes were

discovered by historical documented dealers from general clifton, a top aide to president kennedy, then donated them to the national archives. the recordings were made by the white house communications agency and include radio traffic from the president's plane, air force one. part of the recordings, which are not new, are still riveting like when a distraught lyndon johnson and his wife get on the phone from air force one to console president kennedy's mother. >> i wish to god there was something that i could do and i wanted to tell you that we are grieving with you. >> yes, well, thank you very much. thank you very much. i know. i know you loved jack, too. >> mrs. kennedy, we feel like we've just had -- >> yes. >> all right. we are glad that the nation had your son as long as it did. >> yes, well, thank you, lady bird. thank you very much. good-bye. >> reporter: it leaves us all wanting to hear more, but some of these recordings we may never

richard." one sailors claims they were rough housing. >> i say it's horse play, and they say hazing. >> he also told affiliate kgtv the victim lied to investigators and added the navy rushed to judgment without having all the facts. kgtv reports the sailors have an opportunity to appeal but are unsure whether any of them have pursued that course of action. >> one, two, three, four, and five. >> an officer beating the odds in south carolina after losing part of his leg in a motorcycle accident last february earned a spot back on his s.w.a.t. team. what drove the hero to come back? >> it's the gratification of taking somebody wanted for a violent felony and bring them to justice. it's real rewarding. and a dramatic dog rescue caught on camera in rhode island.

>> it kind of happened quick so you're just doing what you have to do to get out there quickly and as safely as possible. >> brave fire men braved freezinging waters for 15 minutes to pull this black lab out of the ice. he was about 30 yards offshore and now back on dried land. lucky guy. speaking of animals and dogs, it's a big and growing epidemic in the country. obesity, though, among pets we're talking about. a brand-new study shows just how bad it's gotten and what could be done about it. josh, when i see these pick tuesday, you see them on youtube, of these overweight pets, i have to tell you, it looks cute. >> they're adorable. >> but it can be hazardous to their health. >> this is what the problem is. it's become normal because they're so cute. there's a new study that shows that more than half actually of the dogs and cats are overweight or obese as defining of this organization that focuses on

this issue. they have a new report out next week they gave in advance to us at cnn so we took a look at what's causing this and what pet owners should know. this is dodger. he's a mixed breed rescue dog. and this is his owner, kim stevens. and talk to me about him. what's his weight right now? >> his weight is about 82 pounds right now and he should be 62 pounds. >> so that's a lot of extra weight. >> yeah, that's obese. are. >> reporter: how does that happen? how does the dog become fat? >> too much food and not enough exercise. >> reporter: what do you think? you should eat less? get more exercise? what do you think? we're going to talk to a vet, an expert, and get some advice from him. so this is ernie ward, a veterinarian, and head of the association for pet obesity prevention and he will talk to us about what's going on with dodger here. >> this is one of those cases they're deceptively overweight or obese. he's carrying a lot of extra fat here in his abdomen and this is what gets us all in trouble. it's the belly fat that's the most dangerous because that's

the type of fat that is he creates all the harmful chemicals. the foods we eat today are so different than 40, 50 years ago. they have more calories in a smaller amount and the other part of the equation which think exercise. gosh, let's walk dodger for 30 minutes that will burn off all that extra energy. the problem is output does not beat input when it comes to losing weight. you are not going to get in this type of shape, josh, if you just go exercise every day, it also has to be what you eat. >> reporter: what about treats during the day? the dog learns a trick and you want to give a treat. what's the best way? >> treats are calorie grenades and they just blow up excess weight. we have to be careful. think about crunchy vegetables like baby carrots, broccoli, asparagus. we have to calculate the number of calories and gradually reduce the calories so dodger's diet is not about starvation or deprivation.

it's a gradual, safe weight loss. i want you to commit, both of you to commit to a 30-minute brisk walk per day. if you can do that, you'll see dodger lose weight and you'll be fitter for sure. in the end, what do you think will be your motivation? what will motivate you to help? >> i need to turn myself around, too, so we'll work together as a team. just because he is a really awesome dog and i don't want to lose him. i love you. >> reporter: and he's a good example because you look at him and at first you don't see he is obese but a lot of these pets are obese and people haven't learned to recognize what it is. susan, they are adorable. he's so cute. i love that dog. they are getting serious health problems, kidney problems, crippling arthritis. >> it is a serious issue. we were talking while that was running, he doesn't look obese. that dog looks quote/unquote normal. how do you know? >> what you need to do is go to the vet. if you think there's a possibility and the energy level

we haven't heard much lately from them. this is called the no sleep slumber party in washington, d.c. the protesters and police there are clashing. police are in riot gear, on horses. in downtown d.c. by "k" street. again, the protest is in full gear this morning. we're going to keep an eye on that. we hear you're tweeting regarding that and the protesters are as well. checking the top stories now. that massive snowstorm that pounded kcolorado is heading's. bliss ard like conditions have closed highways for miles. parts of kansas and nebraska could get up to a foot of snow. hundreds of flights, about 600 were grounded at denver international airport. for the first time relatives of a teenager who survived that fiery pileup on i-75 in florida, they are speaking out on camera, so devastating. the 15-year-old was hospitalized in fair condition.

her parents, uncle and sister all died in the crash on sunday. members of her church say they are afraid she could face deportation back to brazil. martin savidge spoke exclusively with her aunt. >> the best place for her. here or there, i am sure she would prefer to live here. she has been here three years and a half. we came together and she is an american girl. >> u.s. immigration officials say she is not facing deportation. so devastating losing her entire family. well, all political eyes are on nevada caucuses. rick santorum is vowing to challenge the indiana republican

party. it says he didn't get enough verified signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot for the may 8 primary. we shall see. we are a few hours away from the start of the nevada caucuses. voters there will gather behind closed doors to pick a winner in the presidential race. unlike past contests none of the candidates are out and about in nevada today. no, they're not. here is the latest local poll, though. see how much it means. we can see mitt romney has a big lead. does that mean it's over? he's hoping to keep the momentum going after his winner take off triumph this week and that was a key state, of course. despite being the perceived front-runner romney continues to battle the impression once again that he is out of touch with the general public. it started with this remark to cnn's soledad o'brien. >> i'm not concerned about the very poor. we have a safety net there. if it needs repair, i'll fix it. i'm not concerned about the very rich. they're doing just fine.

i'm concerned about the very heart of america, the 90% to 95% of americans who are struggling and i'll continue to take that across the nation. >> newt gingrich immediately jumped on that comment. romney later said he misspoke, kind of back tracking. he may not have helped his image when he made an appearance with the one and only the donald, billionaire developer donald trump at trump's hotel, by the way. he endorsed romney saying he wouldn't mount an independent campaign if romney is the nominee. joining us now atlanta journal constitution journalist and political blogger kyle winfield and lee may, a democratic county commissioner in suburban atlanta. let's talk about mitt romney and that comment about the poor. how damaging was that? >> well, you know, it continues the perception that mitt romney is out of touch with the american public. part "b" of his statement about not being concerned about the very poor was that they have a safety net and if there are any

problems in that safety net, he'll fix it. well, i don't know what part of the can country he's from but it if you go to any metropolitan city in dekalb county here in georgia or atlanta city, under any major bridge, underpass, look at any highway exit you'll see people with signs that say i'll work for food. there's clearly an issue with that safety net program. and for him to say if there is an issue in that program, it's problematic. i don't think it will hurt him in the republican primary. the problem is the president is building up his notes for his ammunition for the general election and i think he will revisit those comments over and over again and the american people will continue to think about that in their minds about whether he really is in touch with their plight in life. >> kyle, to you, do you think this is damaging in terms of he's kind of back tracking and saying i, quote, misspoke. come on. you're running for president. are you buying that? >> well, it's going to be damaging for some of the reasons lee just outlined.

what i'd like to hear from him over the next month because we have a series of caucuses in which he did well four years ago, he's expect ed to do well now. i'd like to hear him work on his message about why he is the candidate who says he knows best how to fix the economy, how to create jobs, and that works for all americans of all income levels and not get caught up into talking about this group or that group. he needs to talk about what he would do for the whole country. >> let's talk about who is backing who. we saw donald trump there which was a spectacle. we know that. we have to mention it. donald trump. and herman cain backing newt gingrich. do these candidates have a say on who backs them and could it hurt them? >> i think it really doesn't matter to people who are endorsing who. donald trump, the don, i think he was going to be supporting newt himself.

it's all about ratings. herman cain continues to be relevant in the republican party primary. i think republicans will go with who they think will win the election in the general election. i don't know. i don't give them much credence. >> what about ron paul? we should never count him out. he keeps going and going. as the other candidates are dropping off, he says he's in there for a long haul. >> he is in it for the long haul. next to mitt romney in terms of organization of his campaign and resources. he ran four years ago as well. i think in that's kcaucus state he's positioned to do well, also. does that mean winning the nomination? i don't think so. but he's in a position perhaps to have more influence. >> i think he stood out because while the others were bickering ron paul said, wait a minute. i don't care about that. let's get to the real issues here.

so you have to give him credit for that. >> absolutely. he's going to always stand out because he has a message that is clearly different from the remainder of the republican field. he always has that energy that pulls in the youth. he's still attracting the youth and that message is resonating. >> he really is. he has never ending, i think, energy involved in this. real quickly, a couple seconds left, obama and the unemployment rate. does he have a chance to get this stuff together and quickly and fast, and is that transparent if he does? >> well, good news, from 2008 to 2009 under president bush's administration unemployment went from 5% to 7.3%. 2.3% difference. you're now seeing that number begin to decline. it's heading in the right direction and i think you can see his policies are working. >> kyle, one second left, too late for obama? >> i think we're still seeing people staying out of the labor force and those are people who are without jobs as well.

unfolding this this morning in syria, intense shelling being reported in the city of homs. activists say at least 260 people including women and children have died. they are being massacred in the embattled city the last day alone. one witness said he saw ma schet machetes being used. we are joined with the latest.

>> reporter: residents and activists have been describing to us a scene of utter carnage and horror. they say what's going on in syria and in homs is a massacre. government forces are shelling them but there are snipers there, women and children being killed. the syria observatory for human rights say over 200 people have been killed in homs and over 130 in the neighborhood. here is how one activist on the ground described the scene to us. >> the situation is really, really bad. they have be been bombing for more than four or five hours now. we have more than 200 people dead and no one will do anything about it. there are still human beings in the structures of the buildings. people are in the road we can't move out of the road. if you move the bodies you get shot. you get shot for trying to move the bodies. we can't get any medication inside the areas that need help. they're shooting at ambulance.

people who need medication, people who need to be moved to the hospitals, they've been shooting at civilian cars, civilians trying to help get medication to them. there are more bombs and with tanks, shell tanks. there are more than 300 shells landed alone. >> reporter: now while more inside syria say this massacre is going on and calling for help, they are denying it. there was a statement issued they called a media campaign that uses fabrication, false hood and escalation in order to affect a decision at the security council and cover crimes and attacks by armed terrorist groups. susan? >> the man we heard from says he tonight care what happens to him. he wants to get the story out, mohammed jamjoom, thank you.

colorado. the ski resorts are excited but not if you're traveling there. it dumped as much as 2 feet of snow, grounded flights and shut down parts of major interstates. this storm is nowhere near done yet. i want to bring in reynolds wolf again. reynolds, it's moving east, and i asked you during the break, doesn't colorado normally get snow during this time of the year? you said yes but not all at once. >> this is the first big snowfall they've had and the ski resorts have a huge deficit in terms of snowfall. to tell you the truth they probably could use two or three of these. it's great for the skiers but terrible for anybody traveling. certainly some tough times to say the least. it looks like a screeching halt. parts of the ohio valley and possibly some storms in the deep south, too. that's what we have. >> thanks, reynolds. we'll check back. the world's biggest lottery, take a listen.

they pitch in for the world's richest lottery. we're talking with about billions here. tell me about this lottery. >> it's amazing and it's not just any lottery, it's probably the largest and oldest lottery in the world. it's about 247 years old. this is a $3.3 billion lottery. now this town which is made of mainly of farmers and construction workers, 70 families got together and bought tickets and the reason they bought tickets is they wanted to support their homeowners association who got a percentage of the lottery sales. but they landed up winning between them $940 million. something along those lines. can you imagine? with the exception of one man who was left out. he wasn't there. this man is a filmmaker, so you might say he wanted to take two on that one. >> why was he left out? was he not in the area at the time? >> he apparently wasn't there and just didn't think. what are the chances of actually

winning? and it's around $26 if you buy a part of a ticket. and there's another lovely story about a farmer who was trying to pay off his irrigation system. so he thought he'd won around $125,000 for his $26 ticket but then his wife said i also got a ticket so it is $250,000 and his son had another two so they have $507b,000. some people depending on how many tickets they bought but this lottery is an institution in spain and as you saw earlier with the children singing, and i want to show you some more of that, it's something that everybody participates in. so take a look at the children, usually and historically orphanage children would sing out the winning numbers. >> okay. ♪ >> and in this case the winning numbers were 5-8-2-6-8. but can you imagine for a family

who is struggling suddenly this entire village near the pyrenees mountains in spain you have all these millionaires? but that brings along its own problems because you have marketers and opportunists now trying to get in on some of the action. >> some lucky numbers. i have an idea, though, nadia, the guy who was left out is a filmmaker, go to hollywood, make a film about this story. you could start out with the children singing calling it el gordo. >> susan, that is such lateral thinking. i will tell you what he was very happy about, this filmmaker, that he had an entire plot of land he'd never been able to sell and he's now managed to sell it. look forward to the movie and hopefully he'll be in touch with you. who knows, there could be a collaboration. the good news is there's another lottery coming up in spain. not quite as big called el nino. maybe that's where we should be off to. >> el nino. got to ask reynolds about that. steven spielberg, look out.

welcome back. it is 6:57 here in atlanta if you're just waking up. i want to tell you about some news that may have been off the radar for you. the do not fly list doubled over the past year. the list went from about 10,000 people to 21,000. one of the main reasons, remember the christmas day underwear bomber in 2009?

well, it turns out the teen's father had gone to the u.s. embassy to raise concerns about his son, but that didn't get his name on the no-fly list. so the u.s. can now put people on the no-fly list from a single source if the source is considered credible. in yellow springs, ohio, a college is waiving tuition fees for all students who enroll in the next three years. in 2008 antioch college had to t temporarily shut operations for various reasons but recently the school received a surge of donations from its alumni that added up to $51.7 million. now the school is up and running and working to attract students by offering full tuition scholarships worth $106,000 per student. and you are looking at the first pictures of the far side of the moon. these are from nasa's mission which took them from the moon's south pole. the reason it's called the far side of the moon is because of the way it rotates on its axis if relation to its orbit around

from the statue of general mcpherson. now it is in the middle of "k" street. so these folks are not giving up and they're not going away easy. did d.c. police are standing by. they are looking but they are not doing anything. i see about half a dozen workers in hazmat gear, white hazmat gear, setting up barriers on this portion of mcpherson square. it's the portion that faces "k" street, and they may be going through the tent at some point looking for health violations would be the only reason i would see them wearing hazmat clothing but right now at the intersection of "k" street, vermont, 14th has been splayed out in the middle of the street.

now, of course, this street has been blocked off prior to the action here in mcpherson square so there is no traffic coming by on "k" street. >> our thanks to bruce there in d.c. some of the other top stories. in syria anti-government activists say the military is randomly bombing residential neighborhoods in homs. homs has been the epicenter of the anti-government uprising in syria. activists say as many as 260 people, women and children included, have been massacred, slaughtered, in the past day. cnn has not independently confirmed the accounts. here is what one brave person told our anderson cooper last night. >> they have been bombing the area of homs for about three hours, tank shells, part of the syrian army defected and went to that state. went down to welcome the syrian

army. so they bombard randomly with tank shells. in the first half hour we have 40 people dead. now we have about 200 deaths all around homs, people are underneath debt construction. we can't move them. all the buildings, bodies, human beings, kids dead, women dead, men dead. we can't get medication in. they're shoot iing at the civiln cars trying to get medication in there. we can't help them. it's happening all around homs. they're bombarding us. people are trying to move bodies out of the street and putting their lives at risk. people are getting killed just to move a body from a street, just to move a body so they can bury them, and they're getting killed for moving the body. that is bravery. no one is helping us. the u.n. isn't doing anything about it. the arab league isn't doing anything about it. the discussion, people are sitting here and dying. the syrian people are not going

to stop until they kill millions. we will remember that no one did anything about this. >> he is known as just danny, says he doesn't mind showing his face if he can help other people there being massacred. in just a few hours the united nations security council is scheduled to meet to consider the situation there in seyria. and possibly try to force the government to stand down. we'll have a live report. check out the scene in egypt, protesters have clashed with police in several cities there. they are apparently angry at what is perceived as a lack of police action during deadly riots at a soccer game. 79 people died in the riots. nine people have died in these post riot protestsments police say they have been pelting officers with bird shot and molotov cocktails. the protesters there have been doing that. the group of hackers known as anonymous are at it again. this time they're secretly recording a phone call between the fbi and scotland yard discussing that investigation into hacking attacks. here is some of the conversation anonymous posted on one of their

websites. >> ryan cleary and james davis due in court on the 27th. we've set back the further arrests of kayla and t-flow, that being [ bleep ] and [ bleep ], until we know what's happening. >> a law enforcement source tells cnn this is basically vandalism. the fbi is investigating. the army has decided private bradley manning will face a court-martial for allegedly orchestrating the biggest intelligence leak in the u.s. history. he is blamed for leaking sensitive military and diplomatic material to wikileaks. manning could face life in prison if convicted by the military court. no date has been set for trial. a massive hard boiled egg recall is now under way. a minnesota can company is recalling around a million eggs that went to 34 states. the eggs could be tainted with listeria which can cause sometimes deadly infections.

none of the eggs went straight to consumers. they are usually used by grocery chains and other stores and things like egg salad or maybe you can find them in salads. for more information go to fda.gov. the justice department has dropped its investigation into claims that champion cyclist lance armstrong used performance enhancing drugs. armstrong says he is gratified by that decision. he says he can focus on other things like being a father now. fellow cyclists claim lance armstrong was doping when he won the tour de france seven times. the justice department is not explaining why it dropped the case. let's turn to politics and the nevada republican caucuses. this is the first contest west of the mississippi. voting there still a few hours away from now. here is one of the latest polls out of nevada.

you can see that mitt romney holds a double digit lead over newt gingrich. it's a big one. cnn's joe johns has more on the final rush for support. j joe? >> reporter: susan, as the race for the nevada kcaucuses entere the homestretch, the mitt romney campaign was hoping their candidate was well positioned to score a victory here just like he did four years ago. it was a bizarre week in politics, though, with donald trump stirring up a publicity firestorm before finally publicly endorsing romney for president. romney did not help his own case with his comments on cnn that he was not concerned about the poor because there's a safety net for them. he later said he misspoke. meanwhile, newt gingrich, the former speaker of the house, tried to capital iize on the romney misstep promoting his own plan to create jobs and improve the economy. texas congressman ron paul was also attracting large crowds in the state of nevada with his anti-war smaller government

the first big storm in colorado has grounded about 600 flights, shut down parts of a m major interstate. the storm is nowhere near done yet. we were talking earlier, reynolds, the ski resorts are happy. if you're traveling, not so much. >> most definitely. the worst is over in denver. that's the good news. they still have a little bit of cleanup. what's more amazing you look at the storm system it extends over 1,000 miles and means so many different things to different people. on the gulf coast, showers and thunderstorms. some rain and a few thunderstorms. along parts of the ohio valley, basically the same deal but it's going to be the back half of the system where you have the moisture that will be kicking in, with the cold air maybe snow. chicago, fog will be an issue. minneapolis, cincinnati, houston

and san diego some because of fog. others because of thunderstorms like houston, namely. cincinnati mostly just some scattered showers. now in terms of your snowfall totals, boulder, colorado, this is the high point. 20.4 inches in denver right along part of the front range. you have 14 inches of snow. just about a foot in north platte, nebraska. we'll see the heaviness in nebraska today, even into parts of kansas. in fact, anywhere from 8 inches to a foot with wind gusts from 15 to 30 miles an hour you might see some drifts that may extend into places like withiowa beforl is said and done, again, right around a foot or so, even more. low pressure slowly lifts its way to the northeast, scattered showers and storms. is gladdi inflooding a possibil? low lying spots and poor drainage so friends of ours in paducah, lexington, get ready for that. 44 the high had in kansas city. 64 in san francisco. 49 in albuquerque.

70 in houston. 43 in chicago. 50 in washington, d.c. 78 miami. 38 in boston. that is your forecast, susan. let's just pitch it right back to you. if you're in colorado maybe sitting in the airport, you're a little stressed out, we want to bring you back to zen. think about fishing. you know how exciting it can be, really, to catch the big one and reel it in, right, reynolds? >> you might be referring to fly-fishing. >> how did you know? >> it's a habit -- it's actually a hobby i started back in april and it is addictive. it's something you can actually do in places like colorado even during the wintertime. take a look. when most people think about winter sports in colorado, they think about skiing, snowboarding, even snowmobiling. fly-fishing right here on the blue river. this man knows the area well and is sharing his favorite fishing holes with me. kind of deep out here. >> yeah.

that last snowstorm sure did help. >> it appears that way. on his first cast he snags a rainbow trout and allows me to bring it in. >> slowly bring him in. >> okay, come on, buddy. unbelievab unbelievable. >> nice fish. >> beautiful. absolutely beautiful. >> rainbow. >> the blue is a catch and release river. >> she's ready. >> bye, sweetie. though it looks easy, it isn't. trout can be extremely picky, deciding which of these tiny flies to use can make all of the difference. what is the most important aspe aspect? is it the color or the profile? >> they both matter. i would say that the most important thing is probably profile. color second. there you go. you had him. >> even with the right fly, success is never really guaranteed especially in winter conditions. with temperatures in the 20s and

mileage as well. >> the numbers are up there. it's the number one issue during the presidential caucuses, the debates. what will you to for us financially? so many people out of a job and if you think about the stress, can you actually file for an extension if you are unemployed? >> you still can file for an extension. people think it's a government benefit but it's a wage replacement so they are wages you are earning. it's wage replacement. that's why you are paying taxes on them. you can do the same thing as regular income. >> it's easy to get down when you think about it, people out there you've seen it happen before. they're out of a job. they get discouraged. what advice do you have for them in terms of just continuing to keep looking? >> you have to keep going, keep pushing. right the now it's the new normal. it's different, it's interesting out here. you have to keep pushing. and you have to try other things. and maybe this is not the field and you may explore a new field. there are credits out there that you can apply for lifelong learning credits and things you can get deductions on as well if you learn a new skill or get continuing education. so learn more and just keep

28 minutes past the hour, checking the top stories for you on this saturday morning, while all political eyes are on the nevada caucuses today, rick santorum may have indiana on his

mind. he is vowing to challenge the indiana republican party. it says he did not get enough verified signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot for the may 8th primary. there is a ray of sunshine on unemployment, you could say, with nearly 250,000 private sector jobs added last month the unemployment rate has dropped to 8.3% down from 8.5% in december. cnn's chief business correspondent points out that at this rate all 4.6 million jobs lost during the obama administration could be recovered by election day, believe it or not. here's the president. >> these numbers will go up and down in the coming months, and there are still far too many americans who need a job or need a job that pays better than the one they have now, but the economy is growing stronger. the recovery is speeding up. and we've got to do everything in our power to keep it going.
