threatening to get bigger. and alexandra steele is here to explain these two us. how do they form? >> there is one culprit. it's the limestone, that's the type of rock, you see grass and soil and rock. and that rock is very porous. and that rock with water can move. rain falls down, and that rain water becomes acidic, and that acidic water eats away at the limestone. think of a sponge and all the holes get bigger and bigger and bigger and that cannot support the weight of the home above it and thus the sinkhole. those pictures are hard to see and this is a clear one. this is florida, and you can see how it developed. the making of a sinkhole, where are they common? florida, of course.

a lot of places in the southeast. why? because they have limestone or dulles stone, that porous rock. tennessee and alabama, you know, believe it or not, it's not as uncommon as you think. in florida, it's the number one state, and there's a place called sinkhole alley, and it's in around tampa and within the four-year period between 2006 and 2010, there are over 24,000 insurance claims because of sinkholes. so it's not that uncommon there, and this is really where the balance of them happen. >> had no idea there was sinkhole insurance. >> takes a long time i take it for each one to form? >> yeah, and some are big and some are small but the culprit is the porous rock under there that is saulable.
