welcomed kids from all races. >> we celebrate everything together, and why not have this one moment that means the world to us to be together. >> many many high schools stopped sponsoring proms so they wouldn't have to worry over privately sponsored proms. at this bar, some say it's just a matter of tradition. >> i think whites want to get together and have a program and they should be able to do it and i think the blacks should be able to do it too. >> reporter: others are much more blunt about their desire. >> there should be two separate proms. >> reporter: why do you feel that way? >> i think black boys go with black girls. not white girls. i wasn't raised that way. >> reporter: this isn't 1953. >> not being disrespectful but that's my opinion. >> reporter: appreciate who? >> my black folks, you know?
