does it for this edition of "360." thank you for watching. good morning, everybody. welcome to our continuing coverage of the boston bombing. i am poppy harlow coming live. we have new details about why investigators are combing in a landfill. the critical information they hope to find to a possible clue of an accomplice. and also new, suspected al qaeda magazine that has a how-to

for terrorists organizations, and it tells how to make a bomb, and it may have been a motivator. and a second chance to finish the marathon. what one couple is doing to cross the finish line at last. i am here on boilston street. here life is trying and people are trying to get back to normal. it's now just over a week since the capture of dzhokhar tsarnaev. and there are still a lot of unanswered questions about what happened and why. those questions have led investigators to a landfill about an hour away from here. it's in new bedford, massachusetts. it's near where dzhokhar went to

school. cnn national correspondent, susan candiotti spoke to anderson cooper about the investigation. >> the leads to search the landfill for that laptop computer came not only from the suspect himself, the young man that is now hospitalized, but others who according to this official may have had knowledge of its whereabouts or may have played a role in ditching it, getting rid of it after the bombing. and there is evidence that leads that tamerlan, the older brother, may have been involved in drug dealing. they are looking into whether he may have supported himself through drug dealing. if they can find that laptop anderson in this landfill after it had been ditched somewhere,

you know, like a dumpster that eventually made it to the landfill, if they can get into that, they can find out things like e-mails and contacts and schedules and instructions. so much other information about how this plot may have come together. >> i understand you have new information about how the bombs were made or constructed? >> the belief number one is that both brothers had a remote device to blow up each of the bombs. in terms of the ingredients they are analyzing the information, and we know that one of the pipe bombs that was used in the shoot-out in wait ee eer -- wat town, and the elbow pipes, that comes up from time to time in

"aspire" magazines. and that bit of information is also a important part of the investigation. >> susan has been doing phenomenal reporting on this since the start. one of her sources also talked to her about tamerlan tsarnaev possibly dealing drugs. investigators we know have been looking into whether tamerlan supported himself by selling marijuana, and that's a possibility they are looking at. one thing also important to note in development is that police are looking at the murder of one of tamerlan's friends back in his boxing days. that friend is brendan, and he and two other friends were killed, and when their bodies were found marijuana was sprinkled on them. in washington, a warning that more arrests could be coming. it comes from congressman mike

rogers. in an interview with the boston harold yesterday, he said there are clearly more persons of interest and they are not 100% sure if there are not other explosives. he went on to talk about that, and he gets daily briefings on this investigation, of course, and he had critical words on the decision to mirandize tsarnaev by his hospital bed, and he said, quote, i think this was serious decisions made and there are going to be more arrests, i do believe. this is incredibly important. and once he, tsarnaev, got a lawyer, which the citizens of boston are paying he stopp stopped cooperating. we know that from our sources as well, he stopped giving information to the authorities since mirandized.

of course, he was in and out of consciousness, so we don't know how much information he gave before being mirandized. many are saying of course he is motivated to say that they acted alone at this point in time. tsarnaev is in a hospital, moved there friday morning from a boston hospital where some of the bombing victims also were being treated. pamela brown is at the federal medical center. good morning to you. give our viewers a sense of what it's like there and especially what the conditions were when dzhokhar was brought to that city. >> reporter: dzhokhar tsarnaev was brought here by the u.s. marshal service. when he was brought here he went

through what is called a in take process, and that includes a strip search and medical screening and psychological screening and from there he was fingerprinted and a photograph was taken and all of that was given to the fbi, we are told. that was followed by taking him to a restrictive part of the facility here behind me, and this restricted part of this facility is for, quote, high risk inmates. he was taken there and that's where his cell is, we are told. it's a basic cell with a steel door and slot for food and a toilet and sink. that's about it, poppy. >> i wonder if we have any indication how long he is going to stay there or when we might see him in court? i assume the investigators would try to get more information from there if his lawyer will allow them to.

>> reporter: absolutely. i spoke to the u.s. marshal's service, and they say they don't release that kind of information of when he is going to be moved. we have 30 days from the day that he was officially charged with the indictment from the grand jury, and the grand jury will be presented with evidence and then decide the charges that he will face. from there there will be an arraignment and then at the end of the month, there is called a probable cause hearing scheduled, but we are told that there's a good chance he might waive that probable cause hearing, and typically during that hearing there is a lot of evidence presented and a lot of defendant's will waive it for that reason. >> reporter: it's interesting that he is taken to the facility

where they do not do complex surgeries, so that gives indications of his state of health at that point of time. thank you. for the first time in days we are getting a look wife of tamerlan tsarnaev. you see her there, katherine russell, shot there yesterday. first time she left her home in days, and she is the woman walking in the head scarf, and the other woman is her attorney. and russell is one of the mysterious figures in the case. she was married to the man, tamerlan tsarnaev, and she says she knew nothing about it. erin is in rhode island. >> reporter: we saw katie russell when she finally left her house and escorted by her attorney to their office behind me where they met for about 90

minutes. when she arrived i did get a chance to ask her, how are you doing and what is happen stphg she did not answer any of that, of course, and she looked a little beweilderebewildered. she left and we did not see her leave. >> authorities have certainly been questioning her and want as much information as they can get. thank you. to russia now and crackdown on suspected islamic extremist. russian forces raided a place of worship and detained 30 people. the site had been srevisited bee by suspected radicals, and some from chechnya. and the arrests are not said to be linked to the bombing. and look at this. it's a piece of landing gear. officials believe it's from one

scene. we are right here in the heart of boston, and this makeshift memorial has been growing and growing and growing. you see it behind us. four crosses for the four lives lost and officer sean collier shot dead and murdered at mit, and the chinese exchange student, lu, and then the little boy who was the resilience, and then krystle campbell, this city will grow and will move on. the boat where boston bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev hid has been transported. sources say they did not find any guns insight the boat, and there were questions whether he was firing back or not.

the boat's owner, very brave, called 911 when he spotted blood and peeked his head under the tarp and saw what he thought was a body inside, and he called the authorities. the boat is being moved to a secure location so investigators can examine it and get all the evidence they can get out of it. before the boat became the investigation, a young chinese immigrant says the dzhokhar brothers carjacked him in the middle of the night and made him drive around for 90 minutes before he was able to escape. brian moore has how thit played out. >> reporter: the suspect banging on the window of the victim's car and demanded a ride and played out over 90 minutes and

left the victim shaken. >> he said did you hear about the bombing? the marathon bombing? and he said, i did. and he said, well, that's me, i did that and i just killed a m cambridge cop. >> reporter: the victim, a chinese national, did not want to go on camera and would only be referred to his american nickname, danny. he gave a transcript to the boston globe. when he pulled in the curb with tamerlan in the passenger seat, dzhokhar tsarnaev was following in another vehicle. >> danny was nervous and driving erratically because of his nerves. he said, relax, calm, drive slowly. >> they drove from brighten to

watertown and into cam bridge. at one point professor fox said the two pulled over and unloaded things from the trunk. >> what does he think it is? >> he thinks it is luggage. >> they ditched the car and all three were now in danny's vehicle. >> at that point he realized that, boy, he may not live to see another day. >> tamerlan was then driving. the victim in the passenger seat. dzhokhar in back. they stopped at an atm in watertown and withdrew money from danny's atm. and the boy started speaking in their native language. >> but in the car they are talking like normal guys. >> yeah, they were talking about ordinary things, what kind of phone do you have? do you have a cd in the car? there was kind of a relationship

forming which eventually that aided danny. >> but at one point danny's phone buzzed with two texts and rang twice. >> danny answers it, and he said don't say a word in chinese and if you do, i will kill you. his friend is talking chinese, but danny answers in english, i am going to sleep elsewhere tonight, and when he hung up, he said good boy, you did it well. >> and then cash only here at the station, and then dzhokhar tsarnaev went in to pay cash, and tamerlan was briefly fumbling around with the gps system, and tamerlan set the gun down in the door pocket. >> in one motion, danny undid his seat belt and opened the door and ran to the rear of the car, and over across the street to the mobile station. >> how did tamerlan tsarnaev

react. >> he tried to grab him. missed. swore. that was it. >> didn't fire? >> didn't fire. >> it would have been difficult to fire because danny was at the rear of the car and it would have been difficult for him to fire out the window. >> at the mobile station, they got an employee to call 911. the encounter with the police came soon after when tamerlan was killed. professor fox said given the information the brothers planned an attack in new york. >> if it were not for his reaction and behavior and composure, who knows what would have happened. >> the victim does not consider himself a hero and is still nervous because he knows he may have to recount the spire episode in court if and when dzhokhar tsarnaev goes to trial. poppy? >> thank you very much.

diego chargers proudly select manti te'o, linebacker, notre dame. >> te'o did not make the trip to new york city. he celebrated with friends and family at his home in hawaii, and the chargers like this guy so much they traded up several picks to get him. >> i don't know if these guys know what they just did, you know. they just traded like a fire in me that i have not felt before. i think it's a blessing in disguise for me. i am excited to get this thing started. finally at the beginning of the basketball season, rick pitino promised his team if they won the national championship, he would get his first and only tattoo. and coach pitino promised, and well, coach pitino delivered. it's a big tattoo. it's not a little whimpy tattoo.

it's half past 6:00 on the east coast. i am poppy harlow coming to you live from boston this saturday morning. thank you for starting your day with us. here are five stories we are watching for you this morning. lawmakers voting yesterday to end the furlough of air traffic controllers. you may felt the delays. i know i did. now that bill goes to the president who says he will sign it. the airport staff reductions went into place on sunday delaying thousands of flights throughout the week. a move that has frustrated many passengers. >> we were in a rush to get us seated and he did not mention any delays. i think they were trying to keep it from us as long as possible. after some frustrating time passed sitting on the runway, the pilot finally came on and said, well, ladies and gentlemen, we are 24th in line and it's going to be at least 45 minutes.

another story we are following closely for you this morning, government insisting it never used chemical weapons in the civil war, and they say they are lying, there is evidence a chemical was used on a small scale. damascus is trying to use pressure to end the war. investigators in new york are taking a closer look at a piece of an airplane. it's believed to be one from one of the planes that crashed into the world trade center on 9/11. the landing gear was found in a small space between two buildings right near ground zero. in texas, rick perry wants an apologize from the "sacramento bee." it linked perry's push for less

regulati regulations. it's with a picture of an explosion. perry responded on facebook saying i won't stand from somebody mocking the tragic deaths of my fellow texans and our fellow americans. for their part the paper stands by the cartoon saying it was perry's statement on disregard for worker safety and not a disregard for any of the victims. and then the bombing suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev, has been moved to the federal medical facility, devens, 40 miles away from boston. he was being treated at at hospital where some of the victims were being treated. and dzhokhar has recovered enough to sit up and write and

he has not revealed any more substantial information since being read the miranda rights. i am joining you live here in boston, beautiful morning, sun coming up to my right and behind me a beautiful makeshift memorial for the victims of the bombing. it continues to grow and grow. people from all around the world sending messages of support and strength to the people here in boston. as of late yesterday afternoon around 30 people are still in the hospital, still being treated, and one of them is in critical condition. meanwhile, we are learning a little more about the explosives that were used by the alleged bombers. they used elbow pipes instead of straight parts. this is when they had that shoot-out with police in watertown and were throwing pipe bombs at police. why this is important is because elbow pipes are a signature explosive made with the help of

instruction from "inspire" magazine. it's an online magazine from al qaeda. we have more on the magazine and its possible role in the bombing later on the show. and that's an important development. and today investigators are hoping to find the laptop that belonged to dzhokhar tsarnaev. they think it might be here in the massive landfill near boston if that for three days crews in white hazmat suits have been searching for the laptop, and they learned about it from dzhokhar and other people who knew that it may have been thrown out or may have helped get rid of it. were there other accomplices and what did other people know? >> if they can find that laptop, anderson, in this landfill after it had been ditched somewhere that was, you know, like a

dumpster that eventually made it to the landfill, if they can get into it, they can find out things like e-mails and contacts and schedules and instructions, and so much other information about how the plot may have come together. >> it would be absolutely critical. susan candiotti reporting there. some people say they will think about twice about running in a marathon again, and one lady getting ready to run tomorrow. she was a mile away from the finish line when the bombs went off. those watching her were terrified like everybody. tomorrow they will run in the oklahoma city marathon with thousands of people. after the bombings marathon officials offered to let boston marathon runners to compete for free to cross the finish line. and the security will be tight, and the bomb squad will sweep the area before the race. some people running in honor of

the victims. i am so happy to be joined via skype. right before you take off to head to oklahoma to run in the marathon, thank you so much for joining us. tell me why this is so important for you to run the marathon and finish the race? >> well, first, i say the same thing, like i am never going to boston again. but after thinking over and i say, well, i will continue to run and that's the past, you know, and i always have and i won't let just a small group of people try to hurt the innocent people to stop.

we are americans, and just like my coach, he is in kansas city says, we doubt but we are not out and we are going to finish what we start. >> is that a great point. and chau, so our viewers know, you are a marathon expert. you have run 40 marathons and i know the two of you will run this one together. michael, you were a spectator and taking all these great photos that we are showing our viewers of your wife as she was getting ready to run and running the marathon. tell me what your thought was when you heard the bombs go off, and you knew your wife was close to finishing? how did you find her and how did you know she was okay? >> when the bombs went off, i was headed down towards the intersection to get a position to take photos, and i was terrified. i had been following her

progress on the website so i knew approximately where she was but then it occurred to me whether she had speeded up at the end. so as the bombs bursts, i was really worried. i didn't talk to her or didn't get a text from her for about 15 minutes, and those are pretty scary moments. >> absolutely. i know the both of you are running this together. i don't know who is faster but hopefully you will get to cross the finish line together. we wish you all the best of luck. and we know you are doing this in solidarity with the boston victims and boston. good luck. >> thank you. boston strong. >> boston strong. that's for sure, guys. thank you. build a bomb in the kitchen of your mother. just let that sink in for a moment, okay? that headline.

you for joining us. this is a pipe bomb. we knew from our sources that five pipe bombs were thrown at police in that dramatic shoot-out in watertown in the middle of the night, but now we know that an elbow pipe was used and it was a similar design to an al qaeda online magazine, is that right? >> that is right. it's a new development. investigators look to narrow down the motive behind the boston marathon attack and some of the answers may lie in the online publication. it's essentially the organizations attempt at looking to influence english-speaking radicals. what is scary is how easy it's found on the internet. their pdf files are easily found on the internet. these are co-founders. and this is the radical cleric

that exchanged e-mails with the terrorists before the ft. hood massacre. they were killed in a u.s. drone strike in yemen. and let's look at the publication. it's an open source jihad, it's for those that load the tyrants and includes bomb-making techniques, and the title of the spread in the publication is how to make a bomb in your mom's kitchen. you see why investigators are focusing in on the ingredients. it's alarming and perhaps will give some answers as to why the bombers used this magazine. >> yeah, incredibly disturbing. i know we will have more from nick roberts in a little later. thank you. those that survived the terror attack, many of them were

good morning. welcome back, everyone. i want to get you up-to-date on some of the other stories and the weather situation across the

midwest. a lot of focus on flooding there. let's go to alexandra steele. >> we talked about it day in and day out and it's the inundation of the flooding. we have seen rivers crests and other rivers downstream have yet to crest. but it's a soggy go for some of you on this saturday morning. look at i-55. it's between i-70 and i-20, the balance of the heavy weather today. heavy rain, but nothing really severe. you see plenty of lightning strikes from dallas to st. louis, and north of atlanta, that's where the heaviest rain is. really through the weekend, i-20 north has the potential of between one to three inches of rain. and all the rain exacerbating the troubles here, and the temperatures are getting so warm here where they have not been

warm thus far this winter, it has been a cold winter and cold spring. the illinois river of course is the major tributary to the city. it has crested in st. louis and peoria, and now in memphis, you see the current stage, 28 feet flood stage, certainly lower than that. it's the red river at fargo. the red river actually flows north. the river is downstream of fargo, and the temperatures are incredibly warm. look at fargo, in the 70s. they have not been at 50 degrees for 155 days and all of a sudden yesterday they got to 70. now the problems, of course, the snow pack. there is between 8 and 16 inches of snow there ready to melt to all go into the water. the snow will melt and the runoff will increase and the river will jump. that's the biggest problem. and then there comes the rain. a wet weekend here in the southeast, poppy, but for you on the northeast, a nice saturday
