i'm don lemon, welcome to "early start." >> i'm christine romans. it is july 19th, 5:00 a.m. 23 states are under heat advisory. it's affecting 141 million americans sweating out triple digits. in new york it felt like 105 degrees yesterday. workers reporting scores of patients suffering from heat, stroke and dehydration. it's so hot, firefighters are being rushed to hospitals with heat exhaustion battling fires. >> an 11-month-old girl died from the heat after being locked in an suv. by the time they got to the infant, it was 130 degrees in the car. amtrak is warning passengers to expect delays today. trains are being slowed down. the heat wave is driving the internal temperature to 120 degrees. >> at the iowa state fair, there's a lot of concern for the

farm animals. the cows, goats, pigs are getting hosed down. the stalls are being equipped with cooling misters. >> we know what to expect, when are we going to get a break. >> indra is outside. good morning, indra. >> you are talking about the two minutes you are out. i know you are inside because you are wearing black. just being out here this morning, we can feel the difference. the last couple days it was 79 degrees in the morning. right now, 84 degrees. 73% humidity. what does that feel like? currently, 91 degrees. this is before the sun is up. unbelievable. let's look at the maps here. more warnings. hard to believe. today is expected to be hotter than it was in the previous five days of the heat wave. we are talking more extreme heat. what does that mean? temperatures from 105 to 110 degrees. put it this way. new york looking for a high of

99. add in the humidity, it's going to feel like 106. places like boston, philadelphia, new york, down through d.c., detroit, could feel anywhere from 105 to 110 degrees today once you factor in the humidity. what everyone wants to know is when are we going to cool down? we have a cool front coming to the midwest and making its way to the northeast. temperatures cool off. we are talking 80s even for the weekend. the cold front with showers and rain mixed in with still 80 degree temperatures. it's cooler. the good news, it won't be a drastic heat wave. the biggest concern is the cold front meshes with the hot, humid air. that means a threat for severe weather. you can see it friday, saturday, starting from iowa to michigan and e vventually the northeast. >> can i just complain a little bit more to you guys?

they believe zimmerman didn't racially profile. they have different views on whether zimmerman should have gotten out of the car that night. juror b-37 you are going to hear from first. >> i think he's guilty of not using good judgment. when he was in the car and called 911, he shouldn't have gotten out of that car. >> you know, he was, i think at the time he was trying to keep an observation and communicate to the police and was not being confrontational. he had the right to be where he was. >> opposite takes on whether zimmerman should have been there. what do you make of it? >> they focus on fault, not just legal fault, but moral fault. every jury trial go to moral fault, the way they perceive the

evidence. >> we compare them with a former public defender. both felt rachel jeantel's account was important. on whether it was credible overall? >> i didn't think it was very credible, but i felt sorry for her. she felt inadequate toward everyone because of her education and her communication skills. >> i did pick up credible information from her. yeah, i think she was credible. >> each one of us know how to trust someone or not based on instincts. if they were able to debate it if it were credible, you have an outcome. >> one tells us we didn't know how jurors think in these trials and the pressure they are under. >> the pressure of deciding and judging another human being, they are wrestling with it at that moment how we could do it and process it and did we do a

the capital until he does. coming up at 5:30, anderson cooper talks to them about life after the verdict and where the family will go from here. james whitey bulger extorted him out of business has been found dead. the body of 59-year-old stephen rakes was discovered wednesday afternoon by a jogger. he was attending the trial every day. at one point was considered a potential witness. he had just been informed he wouldn't be called to testify. police are conducting a death investigation. so far, we are told there are no signs of foul play. michael jackson's mom expected to testify today in the wrongful death suit. 83-year-old kathryn jackson and her grandchildren are suing entertainment giant aeg live. they claim the company negligently hired dr. conrad murray who gave the singer the lethal dose of propofol.

speaking of hot, another record performance on wall street sizzling. the mercury is rising, so is the dow. the s&p 500 closed with more than $15 trillion in value. to give you perspective, it's not enough to cover the current year, $17 trillion of national debt. it shows how huge the stock market is. for the year, the dow and s&p gained 19%. the nasdaq rallied 20%. one of the best pulse checks on the global economy will be released this morning, that's general electric earnings. wall street is listening to see what they say about the rest of the year for earnings. analysts expect to see 35 cents on a share. we had two big disappointments after the close on thursday. microsoft, ouch, badly missed the profit expectations on the surface tablet. google profit was squeezed by

>> good morning. this is "early start." i'm christine romans. >> i'm don lemon. it's almost 5:30 in the morning, eastern time. >> is it me? >> no, it's just hot. >> we are entering the dangerous day six of a dangerous heat wave that is smothering half the nation. 23 states under heat advisory. that means the heat index will reach 105 degrees or higher. this is going to affect 141 million american who is have been sweating out the temperatures of triple digits for a week now. indra petersons is live from manhattan. the sun is barely coming up, but the mercury already rising. >> i can tell you, we have been out here every morning. there is a huge different. normally, the early morning hours, it's hot, i can tell it's going to be bad. it's unbearable already. it's 84. it feels like it's in the 90s. we are talking 73% humidity. we are looking atmore warnings instead of advisories.

we are bumping up the level of heat today. it will feel like 110 in many places. unbelievable. take a look. we are talking boston, philadelphia, new york, down to d.c., stretching into detroit. it could feel like anywhere between 105 and 110 degrees. definitely hotter in a lot of places but we are starting to see a change. the cold front is making its way through. the midwest is cooling off first. you will see the changes as the cold front pushes through. the temperatures will drop each day as it moves off to the northeast. it means rain. yes, we are going to cool off. i'm not going to say a drastic cooling trend. it will go down. when you add in the rain, you have the muggy, hot feeling. heavy rain possible. we could be talking severe weather. take a look, anywhere from iowa to michigan and each day as the cold front progresses, showers and thunderstorms along the cold front. by saturday night, heavy storms

into the northeast. yes, definitely severe weather in the form of heat and thunderstorms. >> headed our way. >> thank you, indra. a massachusetts police sergeant who took a picture of the bomber is now in trouble. he took these photos and released them online through boston magazine. he did it because of the controversial picture on "rolling stone" of the bomber. he did not have permission. >> he was worried about the impact of the family and the victims. he was worried that certain impressionable people might be lured to replicate that by the glamorous looking photo that is on the "rolling stone" cover. >> he was suspended from work on thursday. he's facing an internal police investigation. a status hearing will determine whether he will remain on duty

during the investigation. these pictures much, much different than the self-portrait of tsarnaev that landed on the cover of "rolling stone." trayvon martin parents say the justice system failed them and their son. they said how difficult it was to hear the negative comments about their son during george zimmerman's murder trial. but they sat there every day except the final day because trayvon couldn't speak for himself. >> you all had talked ahead of time about not being there on the day the verdict came down. why did not not want to be there that day? >> we didn't want to be there because we were told by the court system that there were, you couldn't do any outbursts. how could you be quiet? how could you not say anything or show emotions. so, i think by us not being there, it took the sting out of

people seeing us react to it. because it literally broke us down. >> when you heard the verdict on television, you broke down? >> yes. yes. >> did it come as a total shock? >> it came as a complete shock for me. the reason i say that is because i just look at people as people. i thought for sure that the jury looked at trayvon as an average teenager that was minding his own business that wasn't committing any crime. that was coming home from the store and were feet away from where he was actually going. >> does it surprise you how much the jury seemed to agree with the defense's version of events? >> my answer to that would be what if it was their child that was murdered, that was shot in the heart? would they feel as though it was their child's blame to blame for

their death? i think that was a very insensitive statement coming from her. from the beginning of the trial, she had her mind made up. >> you believe she had her mind made up from the beginning of the trial? >> no doubt. no doubt. >> as you know, juror b-37 and i assume the other jurors as well didn't discuss race in the jury room. she doesn't believe race played a role at any level in this case. what do you think of that? >> i think that's a joke because he clearly said in the 911 calls that it was a black teenager, an african-american teenager. so, that was the profile. trayvon had every right to be in that community. i don't understand why she wouldn't see that, but then again, there's the disconnect.

there's definitely a disconnect. >> do you think if george zimmerman had been black, he would have been allowed to go free that night after shooting somebody? >> absolutely not. that's ridiculous. if the roles were reversed and trayvon martin shot george zimmerman, he would have been arrested right there on the spot, hour one, minute one, second one, if he wasn't shot because a black man have a gun, it's a different ball game. >> what change do you hope to effect? >> the change we hope to effect is with the laws. any teenager walking down the street can feel safe, that they won't be killed and will make it home safely. another thing we hope to accomplish through the foundation is to connect family that is are victims of senseless gun violence. god wanted us to be the
