palace. she's probably not going to go. >> reporter: no. it's business as usual. she came into the hospital 6:00 a.m. local time. she's been in labor for more than 11 hours. this is fairly normal. we don't know how long it will last. she did say she wanted a natural birth. we're not expecting any c sections or anything like that but these things are never predictable. what we're waiting for is another official update. that doesn't come in the form of e-mails or press notes. it comes in a physical form. a palace aid appearing on the steps behind me with an envelope. that will be an indication that the baby has been born. >> max, how do they keep this a secret? i imagine there are people, maybe a few people, maybe the doctor knows the sex of the baby. >> reporter: last we heard was they dnidn't want to find out te

sex and would keep it as a surprise. also a good strategy when they know everyone was asking them. it's an easier answer if they didn't know. we will find out the sex of the child when this lotus goes and is unveiled. that will be the first time we have a sense of that. in the hospital a big team and a substantial team when you consider all the consultants there. there are two royal obstetricians. nothing leaks. this has been a very well planned pregnancy. >> of course, this will be the first royal birth that's been in this sort of internet age and after the easel and handwritten note goes up, i think there will be tweets, aren't there? >> reporter: there will be. there will be the notice broadcast live. you'll be able to see it.

we'll receive an e-mail. after that we're told it will go out on social media. they tried to combine the old with the new. there's a bit of theater around the notice going to buckleham palace. they can get the information out quickly. >> max, hope you're not too hot there as you continue your marathon. max foster, thanks so mouuch. we'll check in later. >> tlahey're a hip, modern coup. they'll tweet. the new royal baby comes with a lot of royal history including what names he or she could be known by. >> here is somebody with the both parents in her name. kate williams. you better be in the know.

the baby's name doesn't necessarily and probably won't come out the day we find out about the birth. >> reporter: yes, it's a right. if the baby is born this evening the information will come from the palace as max was saying. the members of the household will come over here. the information will be given to a secretary and be put on the easel to be displayed to the world and the baby's sex and weight and time of birth will be on there but not the name. we don't expect to see the name for another three or four days. those people who have betted across the world, a lot of bets going on. they still won't find out whether they hit the jackpot. the lead names are alexandra for a girl and george for a boy. >> as third in the line to the throne, does it matter if it's a

boy or girl? >> reporter: it matters a lot. previously, girls didn't come to the throne unless they had only younger siblings or no siblings at all like victoria. what we have here is a different scenario. this will be queen if it's a girl. it's pretty exciting. can we really continue with the idea that hit it wills just go through the male line. we saw that in the great showdown. those girls can't get the title because they're girls. we can see the woman getting the top job and the top palace in the country. >> i think they had to change all kinds of legislation because of the son and heir just becoming the heir. the other interesting thing too when it comes to names is there doesn't have to be a surname or

one of three. you -- the queen and king aren't the same. they don't need a surname. they get christened where their first name. whatever this baby is called, that says enough. a surname will probably be windsor. it's up to the baby. also with royal babies they tend to have four or five names, not one or two. they could come to the throne with any one of them. if diana is in the name, we suspect that may be one of the names. not number one, maybe three or four. it could see a queen diana on

ceremony involved in what happens here. before 1948, royal babies were delivered at home. it was princess di who had her baby's william and harry at st. mary's hospital where the dutchess is at the moment. in the past the home secretary used to be in attendance with about 30 other people to make sure that the baby wasn't swapped at birth for a commoner for example. that doesn't happen these days. we are told that it's really kate's mom in attendance and the former gynecologist. he will sign off on the royal birth notice. names, michael and i were talking about this in the past. we have no idea and we won't know when this notice comes. i'm betting it won't be ethel.

miles. now, here is the deal. this was a joint exercise. people are asking what are we doing dropping bombs on australia? i didn't hear about that war. no. this was a joint exercise. they were going to drop their bombs and go back. when they got there, there were fishing boats every place they were supposed to drop the bombs. they couldn't drop them on the fishermen. really. no brainer there. they said now what are we going to do with them. we have these things on you are planes. there's no place to refuel in the air. all of a sudden here they are. they are dropping bombs and it missed the reef. we'll take you right to it an give you an idea of where it is. i know you've been there, michael. you get a great idea.

there's australia. here is where the bombs were supposed to go. the bomb range but south of bell cay about 16 miles, that's where the bombs are on the bottom of the ocean about 150 feet deep. there's the great reef about 15 to 20 miles from where they are. this will be okay. i believe they'll pick them up. they are out of danger for shipping lanes. it's not a good thing that we have four bombs or not sitting at the bottom near the great barrier reef. >> talk about that. you have about 400 different kinds of coral, endangered species. should they go get these out out of there? it's close by. >> it's not like they haven't had enough problems. this has just been one heck of a couple of years for the reef. the health not so good at this point in time.
