hours. the palace aids haven't had a chance to speak to the couple yet. they are not sure. certainly, the sense here is that something is going to happen in the coming hours. >> so interesting. the world wants to know about the baby, wants to see the baby. at the same time, this is a new couple with a brand-new bundle of joy. every couple with a new baby want their own time, especially in the beginning. >> we got a sense of that in the beginning. there was a four-hour delay between the birth and the announcement. itis longer than we exekted. it was bonding time with the three of them spending time together. that's why there was a gap in the announcement. exactly. today is all about kate and the baby, how well are they? are they well enough to face this barrage of cameras? it's a huge fire bomb of flashbulbs as they come out.

at least it is not hot. we want to go to the southwest. we are talking the flooding. monsoonal moisture. it's that time of year. you pull in all these heavy thunderstorms toward the afternoon thanks to the moisture pulling out of the gulf. the flash flood watches are typical for the summer months, at least the second half of it. from monsoonal to the big question, the midwest to the northeast. more rain. that is a good thing. relief from the heat. we are going to see more severe storms along the cold front. really, the better chances for heavier thunderstorms from kansas all the way in through kentucky. those may be the heavier thunderstorms, larger hail and stronger winds. as long as the front is there, we are going to pull in all the moisture out of the gulf. coming from the south to the north. really, a lot of us under the threat of thunderstorms. nothing necessarily major. one to two inches of rain. we have had plenty of rain. too much rain. anywhere from new york to d.c.,

the prince of cambridge. william and kate may leave the hospital today with their new little boy. the much anticipated baby. that led to all sorts of celebrations in london. this was the scene in niagara falls where lights turned the water blue in honor of the new royal baby. there are celebrations around the world and celebrations in the home village, in bucklebury. it sounds better with the english accent. hi, dan. >> reporter: bucklebury. >> exactly. >> reporter: this is the local pub behind me, the cottage inn. you can see they have a sign out congratulating will and kate on the birth of their baby son. they have the union flags. they are planning a huge party tonight with fireworks, with children's entertainment, lots

of food, raising money for charity and raising glasses to the new boy whose name we don't know. it's a quiet place. there's a little bit of traffic on the main road, but otherwise, desserted. this is pretty much a quintessential village 50 miles west of london. there's a number of villages included in bucklebury. three along the main road. there are royal connections here going back to elizabeth i. she came here. there's a line of trees planted in her memory. the current queen has been here with a line of trees planted for her. a suggestion perhaps they are going to plant more trees for the new prince, william and kate. the baby and the happy couple will be here to be welcomed by kate's parents. >> there's a fair amount of feeling protective over the middletons and trying to shield

the survivors is pending in quebec. kathryn jackson testified in the wrongful death trial of michael jackson. questioning about her son and drugs. she said she doesn't believe michael abused them. she admitted to taking part in a family intervention at jackson's neverland ranch. >> she's looking to blame someone else for the very things she and her family knew. that's why those questions were asked. >> i think for being as old as she is, she did a great job trying to answer the questions. she didn't remember everything. it's clear what happened. >> the jackson's are suing for billions of dollars saying they are liable for michael jackson's death. more drama over the trial of james whitey bulger. fleming was back on the stand

and mistakenly called a man watching the trial a drug dealer. it led to an outburst and the judge having to demand order. he went on to testify about extortion, killings and meetings with the fbi eights with bulger by his side. the san diego mayor is going to defend himself. jackson was once a communications director. she saw him place his hands on women inappropriately and asked her to remove her underwear and whispered sexual advances. the people of san diego shouldn't rush to judgment and the situation would be better understood once due process moves forward. a judge is blocking north dakota from the abortion law. the state's law is one of the most restrictive banning abortion when a fetal heart is detected.

it pans 90% of procedures at the only clinic that provides abortions. the legal back and forth over detroit's $18 billion bankruptcy filing not resolved yet. another hearing wednesday after a judge agreed to hear from the emergency manager that th bankruptcy should move forward. a state judge said the city can't file for chapter nine protection. it would violate the state's constitution. a heat wave led to three deaths. the medical examiners say all three people were in their 80s. one died friday, two others saturday. temperatures climbed into the mid-90s. itis not clear if any of those people had any underlying medical conditions. that is just the concern when the heat gets to that extreme amount. some people won't be able to find ways to keep cool and will suffer from being overcome by the heat. >> the cities have the cooling

centers. for elderly people -- >> it's the question of getting there. >> it gets so hot. indra petersons has her eye on the forecast. the heat has broken. >> today it's thunderstorms. we saw the lightning earlier. here is a look at the radar. you can see a line of storms moving through the area. keep the energy that will remain with us triggering thunderstorms through the afternoon. the upside, more cooling, actually below normal temperatures to the west of new york. average 83. currently 72 degrees. this is the cooler air that will be making its way through overnight tonight through tomorrow. with that, we continue to see the thunderstorms. watch the cool front here. right where the cool front is is where we have the threat of severe weather. kansas through kentucky, but they are not the only ones looking at this threat for thunderstorms. we are talking all the warm, moist air continuing to stream up from the gulf. you can see a sea breeze.

once it switches to the south and the afternoon warming, the thunderstorms trigger throughout the afternoon. the overnight hours. anywhere from one to two inches. heavier amounts are possible. flooding can be a concern. it could be a slow moving system out there. i keep talking about the rain we have. such a strange year for june and july. five to seven inches above normal. we go to the south where there's a threat for more rain as well. one to two inches of rain with a good seven to eight inches above normal. it's a wet summer for all of us. >> it sure is. >> thanks indra. you know the saying, don't get between a momma bear and her cubs? >> it's true. that's a mother bear on top of a dumpster east of los angeles. she's trying to get in. trying to pull on it. wants to open the lid. the reason is one of her cubs
