it's september 6, 5:00 a.m. in the east. we begin with details about planning for military action against syria. until now, most of it centered around cruise missiles, tomahawks fireed from the mediterranean. now, cnn learned aircraft are being considered as options for a strike. u.s. officials say it's unlikely u.s. pilots would have to fly over syrian air space. the official said nothing has been decided and the process is far from being completed. that would depend on the situation on the ground. before any strike can happen, congress, first, has to give its okay and there remain serious questions this morning about whether there are enough votes to authorize action against syria. most senators remain undecided. in the house, there are merely four votes for every member who plans to vote yes. some lawmakers expressed their

support are getting an earful from their constituents. >> things got heated at senator john mccain's town hall in phoenix thursday. >> opposed to having a single american boot on the ground. >> not good enough. >> you don't respect our view. we sent you to stop the war. >> we cannot afford to shed more syrian blood. >> reporter: as mccain, who supports missile strikes in syria tried to convince a skeptical audience this is in america's interest. it shows the tough task ahead as the white house push to turn over lawmakers kick sboos high gear. in washington, the intelligence committee admitted to getting an earful from her constituents. >> there's no question. what's coming in is overwhelmingly negative. there's no question about that.

summit. his press secretary said -- we all need a convincing and legitimate evidence of proof. obama is thumbing his nose and plans to meet with gay rights activists as outrage bans promotion of gay relationships to minors. c nr cnn st. peter'sburg, russia. orders from iran to militants in iraq to attack in baghdad in the event of an american strike against syria. connect the dots there. other u.s. interests in baghdad are targeted according to the officials. they are concerned about iran's fleet of boats in the persian gulf where there are u.s. warships prodecisioned.

court to support you? >> i always want my husband's support. >> are you together? >> i'm not going answer that. of course i want to have children and stay married. >> with george? >> that's something i'm going to have to think about. >> reporter: the interview came after she pleaded guilty to a perjury charge for lying about the money they had for george's bond. she said there was next to nothing. they raised $135,000 in donations. the plea deal included a letter of apology to the judge kept her out of prison. >> she stood by her man and probably shouldn't of. that was it. she did what was right for her. >> reporter: george zimmerman has been moving fast, literally. it's kept him in the spotlight of the law. pulled over in texas in july, then orlando. >> i stopped you for speed.

>> reporter: his ticket, $256. over time, the spotlight may dim. for now, the zimmermans are keeping themselves under it. cnn, miami. former nfl star, aaron hernandez could learn today when his trial will begin. he'll be arraigned in state superior court in massachusetts. he's been held without bail since june. hernandez is expected to plead not guilty to all the charges. will a 30 day sentence for rape stand? a montana judge scheduled a hearing to resentence the man accused of raping 14-year-old girl. he admits the original sentence was wrong and now wants him to serve at least two years in prison. the montana attorney general says the judge lacks the authority and is asking the state supreme court to block the

hearing. the michael jackson wrongful death trial could be coming to an end. the lawyers for aeg live hope to wrap up their defense next week. that means they get the case by the end of the month. michael jackson's family is suing the promoter because they hired conrad murray. murray was convicted of giving michael jackson the fatal dose of propofol. chobani under an fda recall. mold was found in containers. the recall affects 91 varieties of chobani products. this is a week after they told retailers about a quality problem and warned them to pull it off the shelves. they are apologizing to customers. >> it's good yogurt. >> i eat it every morning. >> you might want to lay off for awhile. a growing number of

mortgages to car loans. august jobs reports are expected to show the economy added 185,000 jobs last month. unemployment slipped. the report coming out in about three hours. the federal reserve chairman, ben bernanke, is going to watch closely. if they feel it's holding up, they may begin trimming back on $85 billion a month of bond buying that's been going on for quite awhile. the markets have been getting used to the idea of higher rates. the dow industrial logged the longest winning streak since july. it slimed for the third day in the row since thursday. that included interest rates. it hit 3% on thursday. if you are looking for a home, you are probably noticing mortgage rates have been rising, too. the rate on the 30 year hit 4.75

this week. it seems high historically, it's not, but it's creeping up. jpmorgan getting out of the loan business. they won't be able to apply at this company after october 12th. the decision is not affecting existing student loans. they made the decision based on lending trends with more and more students turning directly to the government for loans over the past five years. a spokeswoman said private lending has declined by 5%. the move will mean less competition in the market and limited choices for students. as the anticipation builds for a product release from apple, leaks continue to emerge. surprise, surprise. could this be the long awaited fingerprint sensor? this photo from a renowned apple snooper is a part for the new fingerprint scanner for the phone, the iphone 5s.

yet, but bombers are one of the many options on the table. what can the president do? he's in st. petersburg where world leaders seem not quite sold on a military strike on the assad regime. an assad backer, vladimir putin is not giving ground. jill is in st. petersburg this morning. what are obama's plans for the day? >> reporter: well, i have to mention last night. that was crucial. they were talking into the wee hours of this morning. about 2:00 in the morning about syria. and no meeting of the minds, in fact, really split down the middle about syria. then this morning, he met with the president of china. they didn't specifically mention the word syria, but did mention disagreements and sources of tension they discussed. they think they can manage those areas of disagreement.

on his schedule today, he's got a bilateral with the president of france, remember france, of course, supporting the idea of military action in syria. he has a news conference, then also a meeting with civil society. that will include gay lgbt activists. there's a law in russia, the antihomosexual agent. the president will talk about that. >> people were talking about how late putin kept everyone up with the entertainment and everything. the president didn't get back to his room until 1:30 a.m. one of the issues that followed president obama to st. petersburg is the issue of addressing the american people. does he need to explain why he thinks the u.s. should strike syria? any news on that front? >> reporter: well, there was an official who briefed us

yesterday and said that indication is that they expect he will. they are not saying when. they are not saying precisely where. i think you can expect that, john. >> jill, great to see you this morning. in syria, a warning the images you are about to see are graphic. new questions about the rebels fikting the assad regime. members of congress expressed reservations that we don't know enough about the people on the other side. this video is painting a disturbing picture. it shows a brutal execution by the rebels. we are in beirut with that part of the story. tell us, what do we know about this video? >> reporter: well, pamela, it's an extremely disturbing and graphic video released by "the new york times." they report this shows a rebel brigade. you can see a commander in this video who is identified.

he reads a poem about revenge. after that, the men in his command, they start shooting the prisoner that is are in front of them in the backs of their heads. now, this video has been released at a very sensitive time. at a time when there is a growing debate about if the rebels should be supported and how much at a time when president obama is seeking congressional approval for limited air strikes on syria. in th is certainly not the first time we have heard of atrocities committed by syrian rebels. it begs the question, these rebels, they are such a fractured group, how many of them are affiliated with islamists? how many are moderates? as the debate grows, lawmakers want to know. they have been asking this question for quite some time. it's not the first time they have been accused of committing war crimes. we have gotten word from the main opposition group that they

have condemned what they have seen in this video. anybody perpetrating war crimes in syria, no matter what side they are on should be punished. this doesn't ease the fears at hand. many sim for awhile, what happens if there's a power vacuum in syria. can somebody step up and really take command over these rebel groups? now you have u.s. lawmakers, some telling cnn they have seen classified intelligence suggesting 50% of rebel soldiers are affiliated with extremists. john kerry saying it's 15%. still, it's worrying. what people are saying is as brutal and murky as the war is in syria, one thing is clear, the rebels, they say, are involved in committing war crimes. that is something that is making it so much more worrying at this particular time. pamela? >> that video is so disturbing. thank you so much. news back home.

we know the cause of the massive fire near yosemite national park that consumed 237,000 acres. the investigation moving faster than expected. a hunter let an illegal fire get out of control. it turned into the fourth largest fire in california history. the hunter had not been publicly identified. no one has been charged. in california, he could be forced to pay. >> since we have the program the last several years, we recovered $90 million of taxpayer dollars from fire that is should have been prevented. >> the fire is 80% contained and burned at least 11 homes. >> they have such a tough time. >> weeks. >> i know. let's talk about the weather. indra petersons is here to talk about that. we are hoping for good news. >> please. >> one piece of good news. mild conditions out there on the fire lines. temperatures in the mild 70s out there. winds generally in the breezy

category, 10 to 15 miles per hour. things look good out there. we are looking at a big early storm in the pacific northwest. it dumped record rainfall over washington and the airports yesterday. it's expected to move to the east. heavy rain in idaho and montana. montana could see severe storms out of this. we are watching for that. anywhere from two to three inches of rain could fall today. the other story out of the northeast is cold. frost warnings up state new york dealing with frost. i don't know where fall went. we are going toward winter. either way, chilly. 30s in the morning. 50s. ten degrees below normal as you wake up in new york, 58. boston, 54. typically, we are in the mid-60s. highs, if you start off cold, you are going to end off cold. temperatures seven to ten degrees below normal in the afternoon. it feels nice. >> refreshing. >> feels like football.

>> feels like football, it does. i'm telling you guys. >> feels like coffee. >> trust me on this. >> thank you so much. we are going to talk about going to new york. it's where a shocking death happened for a man who spent his time flying remote control helicopters. have you heard about this story? very disturbing. a 19-year-old posted many videos online showing himself piloting the minichoppers, performing all kind of stunts. thursday, while flying one in brooklyn, he was hit in the head and died. they are not toys and can be dangerous. his friends are in shock. >> disbelief is what's in my heart right now. i'll miss him, i really will. >> it's an unreal event someone that young, that full of life, enjoying something is gone. just unbelievable tragedy. >> the blades on the remote control choppers move very fast at almost 3,000 rpms.

friends say it was likely a mechanical man function that caused it to go out of control and hit him. >> we are hearing from the parents of a georgia teen found dead rolled up in a high school mat. he died from blunt force trauma. that conflicted with the police finding that it was an accident. they long thought police were wrong saying their son got stuck in the wrestling mat trying to grab a shoe. >> a accident, we just didn't believe. the evidence was there. we knew all along that something happened. >> i hope for the truth. try to get some justice. >> the pathologist who conducted the autopsy is convinced it was a homicide. the georgia bureau of investigation stands by its findings. county clerks in new mexico

are asking the highest court to resolve the question of whether same-sex marriage should be legal there. eight counties are issuing licenses after judges ruled it was unconstitutional to give them that right. the other 25 counties are not. new mexico association says they need a uniform standard and want the state supreme court to provide it. now to a video going viral and for good reason. two dogs trying to convince a cougar, not the betty white kind, but a cat to move away. the dogs circling the big cat there, distracting it, forcing it to leave there. check it out. those are brave, brave dogs and one confused big cat. officials say the cougar appears to be young and has come back to the area several times. they are on the lookout for this cougar now to see why it keeps
