course, by we i mean them. time for the newsroom. let's get to carol costello, also anxiously awaiting the gorgeous george christening pictures. >> man, i've been waiting since last tuesday. are you kidding? thanks, guys. >> sarcasm we do not sense any at all. >> none at all. have a great day. thank you so much. >> bye, girl. >> "the newsroom" starts now. -- captions by vitac -- www.vitac.com happening now in "the newsroom" a cnn exclusive. >> did you ever talk about resigning to the president? >> what i talked about is doing the job that i came here to do. >> the woman behind the flailing, floundering obama care website one on one. >> why didn't they bring their "a" team in in the first place? also cross-continent custody drama. >> the estimation of maria she may be 5 or 6 years old. >> reporter: a blond haired blue eyed little girl and any new twist in the case.
6:01 am
plus a royal affair. baby prince george set to be christened this hour, how will william and catherine break from tradition this time? and betty white takes on miley cyrus? get ready to kiss your sledgehammer. you're live in the "cnn newsroom." we'll talk about betty bhit in a bit. i'm carol costello. we start with breaking news out of massachusetts, and it's curious, we have learned that all schools are closed in the boston suburb of danvers while police investigate a murder. we're expecting a news conference from police at any moment. you're going to see a picture soon from our affiliate wcvb. police say danvers high school is a crime scene and cnn's affiliate whdh is reporting a 14-year-old student is in custody after a teacher was found dead at danvers high
6:02 am
school. police are saying there is no threat to public safety at this time, but every school in this district is closed this morning. we'll keep you updated on the situation as we learn more. on to other news this morning, inkreeg, insults and another major embarrassment for the white house. this mornin a national security official is out of work for twit ear tacks on republicans and even his fellow obama insiders. jaffe joseph is booted as director for the national security council. he tweeted his insults under an alias, including this shot at president obama's senior adviser, "i'm a fan of obama but his continuing reliance and dependence upon a vacuous cipher like valerie jarrett concerns me." jim acosta is at the white house this morning with more. good morning, jim. >> reporter: good morning, carol. what we can tell you is that a white house official tells cnn
6:03 am
the director of nonproliferation at the national security council at the white house was fired immediately when his identification was known, when his name was traced back to this twitter account handle which has now been taken offline. it was @natsecwalk and under that twitter handle as you mentioned a number of off-color remarks made about administration officials and top republicans. show you some on screen, this one about sarah palin. it says "so when will someone do us the favor of getting rid of sarah palin and the rest of her" this is quoting here from this tweet "white trash family? what utter useless garbage." another tweet about huma abedin, also the wife of former new york mayoral candidate anthony weiner and this tweet goes "was huma
6:04 am
abedin wearing beer goggles the night she met anthony weiner?" he was fired by white house officials and we should point out we've been trying to make attempts to confirm this with mr. joseph. he released a statement to politico apologizing. "it has been a privilege to serve in this administration and i deeply regret violating the trust and confidence placed in me. what started out as an intended parody account of d.c. culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments. i bear complete responsibility for this affair and i sincerely apologize to everyone i insulted." that from jofi joseph, to politico. and carol, this has the potential to at least temporarily offer a brief distraction from everything that has been going on with obama care and all the technical problems with the website. we should point out a little bit of news happening later today, insurance industry executives from the health care industry will be over here at the white house, meeting with senior administration officials including the secretary of health and human services, kathleen sebelius.
6:05 am
we're hearing she will also be at the meeting. >> nicely sets up our next story, jim acosta to the white house. now to the other pr nightmare the botched rollout of the obama care website left thousands of americans angry and frustrated. after three weeks the progress is being made on repairs to the website and reducing problems. kathleen sebelius the nation's health chief and the person most responsible for the site sat down for an exclusive interview with dr. sanjay gupta. >> what will tech people? can you give us some names? >> right now we've asked all of our contractors to look at their teams on the ground and bring in their absolute "a" team and i'm confident that is happening every day. >> the contractors didn't do such a great job so far. why didn't they bring their "a" team in, in the first place? >> i can't tell you -- >> why are we saying three weeks
6:06 am
now bring your "a" team into this equation? >> we hoped they had their "a" team on the table and i'm talking to ceos and urging them to make sure we have the talent they have available. i think all of them have folks who are assigned to a project. we want new eyes and ears. we want to make sure that we get all the questions on the table that we get all the answers and accelerate the fix as quickly as possible. >> open enrollment goes for six months until the end of march. when will this get fixed? >> as quickly as we can. it's improving every day and more people are getting through, more people are having an easier time and we intend to stay at this until we open the doors wide open. >> do we deserve a specific date? what can we tell people, because there's a little bit of a loss of confidence in this. so if you say as quickly as possible, that meant october
6:07 am
1st. >> we can tell you it isn't where it needs to be. we are three weeks into a 26-week open enrollment peemt. people are enrolling every day, not at the volume we would like and. >> the president's legacy is part of this whole issue as well. has it been tarnished by what has happened? >> i think that what we need to do is see the enrollment figures at the end of march of 2014. that's when open enrollment ends and what i know from what we're seeing states is people are eager to have this affordable product and the product is there. insurance companies have to compete for people's business for the first time. >> carol, you can see that secretary did come back to this
6:08 am
overall mission over and over again, this idea people may have health shoornz at tinsurance at the six months than before. she's not talking about resigning. i did ask her about the individual mandate and said look, if it's been so hard and so cumbersome to enroll, can you penalize people for not doing so? and she sort of dodged that question. look, this is not the time to be asking that question or addressing that. who knows if that means it may come up later on but for now carol the individual mandate, requiring we all buy health care insurance if we don't have it, that stays in place. carol, back to you. >> those fines will take effect. secretary sebelius will take part in a new initiative, an administration source telling us that while white house officials and even cabinet secretaries will visit ten cities with the highest rates of uninsured americans. they'll encourage enrollment and when the first events take place
6:09 am
later this week we will be covering them. sorry about that, got that out for you. eight minutes past, top story, surveillance video capturing a bizarre incident at the utah state capitol. man drove his pickup up the west entrance and walked into the building and after trying to break into a secured area was forced to the ground by state troopers. the man may face charges, troopers still don't know exactly why he did this. remember this horrible video of bikers attacking a family in an suv? new york city police arrested a ninth person, jason brown, first-degree gang assault. he's accused of hitting the suv driver with his helmet. more arrests could be made in the case. the start of the 2014 tax season will be delayed a week or two and you can thank the government shutdown. irs workers have to catch up on a lot of other work before they can start looking at your tax forms. you can forget about the filing deadline being pushed back. oh, no, no, no, you still have to do that by april 15th.
6:10 am
for the second time in a week police have taken a young girl from a roma family, this time in ireland, the case has a striking similarity to the case in greece, people are searching for the parents of maria, after she was found with a roma couple who looked nothing like her. police are narrowing down the investigation to see if she is a missing child. cnn's erin mclaughlin has more from dublin. >> reporter: in a dublin suburb less than 48 hours ago, the police known as gardi here took a little girl in the hands of social services. >> we were told she had blue eyes, told she was around 7 years of age, told she had blond hair. mother and the father produced documentation as i understand it but the gardi were not satisfied with that. >> reporter: thousands of miles away in greece, police are searching for the parents of another fair haired girl known only as maria.
6:11 am
she was found living with the roma community there. the couple posing as her parents now charged with child abduction. >> the claim is that we never abduct this child. we've just adopted. >> reporter: interpol says maria's dna does not match any profile in the data base it is being compared to lisa irwin. >> just the fact we don't know for sure is enough. >> reporter: lisa vanished from her parents' kansas city home two years ago and though they believe maria is too old to be a match, u.s. authorities want to be certain. >> i think the estimation of maria, she may be 5 or 6 years old but the fact is that the dna will be conclusive to tell us one way or the other. >> reporter: the common thread in ireland and greece, the roma community, its members have long been victims of discrimination throughout europe and its connection to these two cases has created even more public
6:12 am
scrutiny. though not in the eyes of u.s. authorities. >> they're not looking at the romas as being the originators of this vast, you know, international child abduction conspiracy. unfortunately, there are crime groups, if there's money to be made and if it's made in human trafficking, they'll traffic human being including infants and small children to do it. >> reporter: i have spoken to the family of the little girl here in ireland, her picture, she has blue eyes and fair hair. they insist she is their biological daughter, they have submitted to dna testing and hope to have her back by the end of the day. carol? >> erin mclaughlin reporting live for us this morning. still to come in "the newsroom" -- >> there's a kid with a gun. >> reporter: the dramatic 911 calls from the nevada school shooting as it happened, new detail this is morning on the hero teacher who lost his life saving his students.

also, colorado rebuilds. >> in terms of trying to get back to normal. >> well right now this is normal. >> reporter: we're live in the town of lyons, as the small town comes together. plus charges filed in that ugly fight at the jets/patriots game. house hearings to determine the owe pa ma care exchanges are not working? don't we already know that? joining me now is republican congressman cory gardner of colorado. good morning, congressman. >> good morning. >> thanks for joining us. >> thanks for having me on. >> the rollout was terrible, debacle, you can use more adjectives but flat-out horrible. what more can we learn when sebelius is only in one house hearing? >> the questions we have to ask is why red flags weren't raised during the development of the software, they were but they were ignored, what did the secretary know and understand to be taking place and why were we as oversight committees told everything would be ready and good to go when clearly that is not the case. >> couldn't all of that be found out in one house hearing? >> all of us have expertise in different areas talking about the government oversight committee reform committee, expertise in different areas, our committee will bring more of
6:18 am
a technical expertise on the software, the actual technology in place and the actual oversight of the health care bill itself so i think it's important that we have insight and input from all of these committees who do share expertise in the different areas that the healthcare.gov, the exchanges and secretary sebelius are going to be talking about. >> isn't there a difference between solving problems, finding out what the problems are and extracting a pound of flesh? i think the american people are hearing little about solutions to this problem and a lot about fire the bum. which is it, solving problems or extracting a pound of flesh? >> it's clearly about solving problems. "the "chicago tribune"" said the glitch isn't just in the software itself but in the law, the obama care bill itself, the language of the law that will result in higher health care costs, people losing their insurance plans they were promised they could keep. the primary promiless the president made if you had a health care plan this will keep it and lower the cost of care
6:19 am
the promises are not coming true. >> let me get these straight these house hearings are not about solving the problems, this is about getting rid of obama care. >> they're very much about solving the problem. the american people are going to be forced into health care exchanges that don't work and so when you're looking at your family's situation and you have to buy insurance because that's what the law says, you're now being forced into a series of websites that do not work. it's not just healthcare.gov. look at the colorado-based health care exchange it's not working either. there are serious glitches with that technology. >> that's different from what you first said because what you said -- >> into it's not. >> you said you're going to find out why more red flags were raised, good question, why the president didn't know there were problems, good questions, like who's at fault, good questions, but now it's gone into the same old, same old, getting rid of obama care. >> it's not the same old same old. >> that's what i'm hearing now. >> why does cnn get exempt from
6:20 am
obama care when the american people are not exempt from obama care? >> i have health insurance through my employer. if i did not have a job i would not be exempt from obama care. >> your employer, your employer is exempt from obama care. the president made the decision -- >> see we're talking about the same thing we did with the government shutdown. >> you're actually trying to confuse the issue. carol let me talk about this more. i'm going to answer the question. >> let me go right to the point that the reason the president will not fire sebelius is because lawmakers would not confirm any new nominee as in the republicans in the senate. jim antley, former top aide to harry reid told politico "no one the administration could pick to replace sebelius could ever be confirmed, not even the lord himself. the amimous is such they would find someone to criticize him." namely if the president nominates a health and services secretary and that person supports obama care there's no way the senate would support
6:21 am
that person. >> i'm not here talking about firing kathleen sebelius. i think very much as you go to court with evidence, you don't shred the evidence before you find out what happened. we need secretary sebelius to explain to us what happened, those red flags you mentioned are very important. so to go back to the first point, i'm not trying to defend obama care at all. i'm not trying to defend a principle of delaying it. we know the american people are going to be forced into a system that isn't ready for prime time. whether that's delaying obama care, whether that's scrapping obama care, that's what this is about in terms of making sure it works for the american people so the solution that you asked for instead of defending obama care at all costs, the solution is to make sure it doesn't bear on the american people because the american people are going to be forced to buy insurance that they may not want through a website that may not work and the president is saying no we're going to go forward with this and we don't have the answers. why were red flags ignored, why were people told it incumbent' going to work and it's going forward. this is important for the american people.
6:22 am
>> all valid questions. i want to ask one last question. will there be any talk about making these exchanges work better or is that off the table? >> well i think that's what the conversation is tomorrow, what is going to happen, how much did they cost, why did they use 10-year-old technology. >> i asked you is there going to be talk about how to make these exchanges work? >> we have four people coming tomorrow to talk about what happened and what they're going to do, absolutely but the real glitch is in the law itself. and so not only do you have a problem with the website that people are going to be forced to use, they're going to be forced to buy a product that doesn't work because the law itself doesn't work. >> congressman cory gardner from colorado thank you for joining me this morning. >> thank you for having me, thanks. still to come in "the newsroom," just releelsed 911 tapes reveal the terror inside a nevada middle school including students calling for help after a beloved teacher is shot. ido more with less with buless energy.

6:35 am
outside of st. james palace. will the car drive by, will the couple get out with the royal baby? >> reporter: oh there are crowds everywhere, all the well wishers. we've seen kate and william go behind news buckingham palace, haven't seen the queen yet. we don't know, probably a quick shot of them going in. we'll unlikely see george so we all have to wait until the pictures come out and that's tomorrow evening. there were no cameras allowed during the ceremony today so it is very private and secret. we have to wait until tomorrow evening. >> you know what everyone is really going to be noticing is what prince george will be wearing as in his christening gown. i know that sounds so silly but you know that that will be pointed and many people will buy whatever he's wearing. >> reporter: what he's going to be wearing, that's the touch of history. he's going to be wearing a replica of the same christening gown that every royal baby has worn since 1841, that was queen victoria's daughter, her first child and worn by every baby including william, including
6:36 am
charles, but in 004 the queen thought it was looking a little bit fragile so she had a replica made. that's what george will be wearing. it's frilly and many babies don't like it. it's much more of a modern ceremony like kate's christening, the williams. >> who is going to be the godfather and the godmother? >> reporter: yes, you've got the seven godparents announced this morning. that's a bit of a surprise to us royal watchers. we were expecting six. seven is even more and we were expecting perhaps a few royals in there but only one royal and that's princess anne's daughter. she is herself the daughter of a prince princess. they don't get titles so she's the only royal on the list is not a princess. the rest of them are friends from school, friends from university, a friend of princess diana. william and kate are saying they want their friends to look after prince george to give him spiritual guidance not necessarily the royals. an interesting choice. >> interesting. we're going to cut away from

6:38 am
prices began falling. they were at $100 a barrel in july, but then prices have been falling since then and as you know gas prices and oil prices tend to move in lock step. oil prices are falling because the government says we have plenty of supplies on hand. also we're seeing that demand is dropping and part of that is because people are driving less in the winter and also because of the weak economy so it's not just here in the u.s. but it's also around the world so the weak economy part makes it kind of a double edged sword but it's nice to have to do a double take at the gas station and say wow those prices are down, carol. >> i know, so refreshing. let me tell you. >> so refreshing, yes. >> the opening bell just rang, what can we expect today? >> looks like the bulls are taking a breather, the dow is down about 50 points. it's following a drop overseas. not such a huge surprise to see a decline in stocks after four days of record especially looking at the s&p 500 but reality may be setting in. the jobs report quite frankly
6:39 am
was weak. it means the fed is going to prop up the economy, but here is the problem with that. it shows that the economy isn't recovering as quickly as we'd like. also some companies are coming out and saying they're still feeling it, too, in fact, caterpillar today said it's not going to make as much money as it initially expected this year and also saying that economic growth could be under pressure next year. we are seeing caterpillar shares down almost 6%, so you're seeing this trickle-down of the slowing economy going right into company's pocket books. >> alison kosik reporting live from the new york stock exchange. i'll take you out near boston one more time, these are aerial photos of danvers high school in the boston suburb of danvers. the officials closed every single school in this district today because a teacher was found dead. 14-year-old student has been arrested. he's being investigated for a possible homicide? the essex county district attorney just held a news conference. we're going through that right

good morning, i'm carol costello. thank you for joining me. we do start with breaking news. this is out of massachusetts, police in danvers, massachusetts, that's near boston, confirmed that a teacher's body was found in the woods near danvers high school. now all the schools in the district are closed while police investigate what they term a murder. >> reporter: hi, carom. shocking and stunning news, especially for the people who live in danvers. police revealing and the district attorney's office that a 14-year-old young man is now charged with murder in connection with the death of a math teacher at danvers high school. her name is colleen ritzer.
7:03 am
she teaches math. and her body was found in the woods behind the high school last night. now at the same time this 14-year-old apparently had been missing since yesterday, they had been looking for him. and they spotted him about 6:30 last night at a movie theater about five miles or so away from the school. and eventually found him overnight walking on a road somewhat near the high school as well. and picked him up. he is now in custody. how did they find him? we're told through the use of social media, including facebook and twitter. but they're not releasing dames about exactly how that social media was used to locate him. very few details as well about how this murder happened. other than to say blood was found in a second floor bathroom, i think it was, in the high school. in any case, they're now trying

7:06 am
this is one of the issues that they're dealing with, violence in schools. we keep seeing this. and hopefully we're going to see, you know, see some of this not happen anymore. but you never know. it just seems every day there's something new. but the main thing in this case is finding out what the relationship was between the two and if he was acting alone. >> lots of unanswered questions this morning. mike brooks thank you for joining us. and just a recap, 24-year-old colleen ritzer was found dead behind the high school. and they found blood in the second floor bathroom inside the school. they placed under arrest a 14-year-old student and since he's a juvenile, they're not releasing his name. and we don't know the relationship between the 14-year-old and the 24-year-old
