tuesday, 5:00 on november 26th. we begin with a eye on the wintry weather and moving across the country after killing now at least 12 people. millions of americans now in the cross hairs and it's threatening to make get to your thanksgiving destination pretty difficult. >> accidents dotting the roads in arkansas and the same in fayetteville in the northwest part of that state. ice causing many cars to lose control. >> i get on the highway and next thing i know, i'm spinning. >> people don't realize when they cross those bridges they got ice on them and when they cross them, they lose it. >> a nasty commute in milwaukee. cars slamming into each other on the highway. the sheriff there reports more than 50 accidents monday morning alone. >> i was just coasting going about 3 miles an hour and i just about got in a car accident right here because you can't stop. there's a point where there is nothing you can do. it's just glare ice and you're a

passenger in your own car. >> snow also falling on colorado springs as part of this storm. several inches piled up through the weekend but there is, warmer weather behind it. >> another thing we are watching is the air travel. a major concern this morning. >> look at that. >> one of the busiest travel days of the year. if you're flying call your airline before heading to the airport. the storm likely will affect nation's biggest hubs and could mean delays and cancellations for many trying to get away for thanksgiving. >> it can affect tens of thousands of passengers who may not even tend to fly to and from the cities but are simply connecting between those cities to try to get to their destination. >> the timing could not be worse. indra petersons is tracking the storm for us. i said i'm going to pack a lot of snacks and sit at the airport and wait and see if i can get out. >> i'll be there with you so at least you'll have company. lot to talk about today. we are starting to see snow in the northeast and down in the southeast, we are seeing the rain and wintry mix including

freezing rain right in through virginia. a tough situation. talk about the reminder what is going on. today is the day the two systems start to get close together and merge. let's talk about this. how much rain and how much snow are we going to see when it's all said and done into the southeast? looking at that heavy rain. over a foot of snow especially closer to lakes and kind of tapering off kentucky and tennessee. why are some people getting the rain and some the snow? back to the basics. here is the low. when you're on that front side you're moving all of that moisture coming out of the south and it's warm and you get the rain. the winds are the back side of the low the snow cold air coming out of canada. take it day by day. i know it's so important for so of you with these travel plans. today we are seeing the winds and heavy rain into the southeast. as we go throughout the day, that snow is going to switch over to rain as the warm front makes its way closer into the northeast. we will start to see heavier snow on the back side of the low as well. overnight tonight in through tomorrow morning that is where

we are looking for the period the heaviest rain and snow and strongest winds. the toughest time here. as we get through wednesday, things quickly improve here as far as precipitation. so rain and snow starts to taper off. don't let it fool you. on the back side we are talking about those strong winds. so speaking of winds. still lingering even wednesday and thursday and that is going to cause those air traffic delays. this morning, as far as flying and winds to the southeast we are looking at that low right now. you see the winds as you move into tomorrow lasting through wednesday and thursday. notice those winds shift to the northeast so there's so much going on and so many factors between icing and freezing rain and the winds that can hold any of your travel plans both in the air and on the ground. >> know that is quite a job to track all of that so thank you. appreciate it. >> be careful out there. to an ultimatum from the white house to afghan president hamid karzai. national security adviser susan rice is in kabul and telling the afghan leader no more delays. it is time to sign the security

green lig agreement to. karzai is balking and adding more additions to the 11th hour. nick paton-walsh is following the details for us. is this deal falling apart, nick? >> it really risks that being the case. at a lengthy negotiating process and karzai wanted more delicate things proofed by council elders and they proofed much of it and added much extra conditions and he said he wanted to delay signing into the elections next year. to ensure i'm sure his successor has some kind of say in all of this. most repeat talks with susan rice he had two more conditions. moving the goalposts constantly here. susan rice is not the friendlyist person to send to kabul. if they could have september jo -- sent john kerry to butter him

up. they say enough is enough. >> why is karzai doing this? >> reporter: i think if you look at his end goal he seems to be focusing on the elections next year. the last time he seems to have a bargaining position with the u.s. once this deal is done u.s. troops can be there ten years and aid not set in stone but laid out more clearly. the last time presidential elections the u.s. were very critical of the procedures around that and i'm pretty sure he'll look ahead to make sure the next president of afghanistan is somebody he approves of and doesn't want the united states to raise concern how the procedure went through. the america's longest war now and looking at a position the next month or so, the u.s. could simply stop, not just our troops but aid contributions to effectively lose its way what happens next in afghanistan. >> nick paton-walsh, thank you. president obama is defending the international flavnuclear d

with iran this morning. the president calling on the critics who said the agreement was a mistake. the president said bluster may be an easy solution and does not promote security and he insisted this nuclear deal is progress. >> this will help iran from building a nuclear weapon and over the coming months, we are going to continue our diplomacy with the goal of achieving a comprehensive solution that deals with iran's threat once and for all. if iran seizes this opportunity and chooses to join the global community then we can begin to chip away at the mistrust that has existed for many years between our two nations. >> the president was interrupted in part of the speech from chanting. the president had the power to stop deporting immigrants. president blamed congress and said he would change the laws if he could but he needed the lawmakers to help him do so.

>> he allowed that noon stay afterwards. president obama is continuing his west coast trip and visited last night with the family of tsa officer that was killed at l.a.x. earlier this month and with two tsa officers that were injured in that shooting as well. hernandez was the first tsa officer to die in the line of duty. the injured officers griggsby and spear are said to be recovering. "the new york times" says healthy.gov is not moving quickly enough and leaving the users in limbo and unable to sign up for coverage. some have been waiting more than six weeks to hear the status of their applications. "the washington post" is reporting insurers are receiving error-filled lists who signed up for coverage and in some case misreporting children as spouses and deleting records. the white house promises the site will operate much better next week. dispute over obama care's --

good morning. welcome back. we are getting more details on the gunman who opened fire at sandy hook elementary school last year, killing 20 children the gun on himself.re turning - a report from a state prosecutor summarizing some of the evidence against adam lanza painting the 20-year-old to troubled to say the least wen obsessed with mass murder. he apparently spent hours playing violent video games and wrote stories about killers and saved newspaper articles on mass homicide. in fact, creating a spreadsheet of the worst murderers in history. one person who knew lanza years earlier things he designed the shooting to get back at bullies

who went after him when he was younger. >> what adam was trying to do was come up with an act of revenge that was so awful that he would stab every american in the heart. >> it seemed like as time was going on, was starting to decompensate more towards a psychotic behavior. as well, you see he see some obsessive compulsive disorder traits and paranoia going on and hard to manage. >> he had black bags on his window and would not correspond with his mother in the final months. the report shows no light on lanza's motivate or why he may have targeted sandy hook elementary massacre. he would only talk to his mother via e-mails in the house. a superintendent and two coaches indicted in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl in steubenville, ohio, that

happened last year. mike dewin announced the indictments from a special gj looking into whether any adults tried to cover up that rape. steubenville school superintendent michael mcveigh charged with making false statements and obstructing punish volunteers assistant coach coach matt belardine has several charges including allowing underage drinking and making fall statements. all could face years in prison. >> i hope this does send a strong message. people need to cooperate with investigations. they need not to hide evidence, and we hope that this frankly brings an end to this. >> in october, the district i.t. director was charged with perjury and tampering with

the snow we starting to see snow. remember how cold it was over the weekend? right now as the system makes its way across we are dealing with snow flurries and second system producing the heavy rain between two. virginia and north carolina with icy mix. two systems that is the story today. they move even closer together. this being the warm one pulling the moisture out of the gulf and when it is all said and done we are talking about increasing throughout the day today. the heavy rain in the south and shifting into the carolinas. around the lakeds over a foot of snow and snow tapers off through kentucky and tennessee. why are some getting rain and snow? talk about that in a second. we have a severe weather threat even a chance for isolated tornadoes today so check that out. not so much going on. we are adding that into the mix as well. the low shifts up to the north. if you're on the front side of

this notice the winds out of the south and where it's warmer in the south. you're getting rain. if you're on the back side of the low winds coming out of the canada the reason we talk about the cold air and wintry mix as it shifts over. we will take it day-by-day. this is the most important thing so many of you. we talked about the rain today and wintry mix and shifting to the carolinas. the rain will switch to the northeast as the warm air makes its way up from the south and on the back side heavier snow and wintry mix picking up. the winds will kick up. notice as you get in through wednesday the system does start to pull off. it looks like it's getting better but remember that's not the case because the winds start to shift from the southeast into the northeast and with that stronger winds. still flight dlas even though the snow is gone. >> you have to have a strategy. everyone getting up is getting a

strategy strategy. >> everyone has got like four chances here. i know. >> thank you. 34 minutes past the hour. ultimatum for afghanistan's president karzai. national security adviser susan rice is in kabul where karzai insisted on new conditions now in exchange for giving final approval to the already agreed upon deal. the white house says rice told karzai if he doesn't sign the agreement, the united states will begin planning to pull out all of the troops. karzai in a statement said he wants assurances the united states will not conduct military operations on afghan homes. despite white house attempts to transition america's drone war on terrorism from cia control to the pentagon, the spy agency is still behind most of the recent strikes. in fact, drone attacks last week in yemen.

officials have met. the head of the national security agency general keith alexander reportedly offered to resign in the wake of the edward snowden affair. "wall street journal" says xamp alexander made the offer but that was rejected by the obama administration. the revelation comes nearly a month after it was announced alexander would be leaving the nsa in march. at long last talks aimed at ending syria's civil war appear to be moving forward. the first direct negotiations between bashar al assad's government and syrian rebels set to begin january 22 in geneva. still very tough conditions there on the ground for the civilians. defense of the international

constituents need a congressman who is 100% focused on their needs. it is not clear how long the congressman will stay in rehab before returning to work. you know judge and lawyers ask a lot of questions before you can serve on a jury like what you watch on tv and where you work. dekalb county court in georgia's list of occupation is 62 pages long and on that list one question is slave. we are not kidding. there it is right there. it's on the list. a potential juror filling out the questionnaire online found the entry and the court is calling this a mistake. >> they say it's a mistake. i don't think so. >> wow! >> yes, yes. court officials say that they have removed slave from the list as soon as they realized it was there. hopefully, they are doing a full investigation to figure out how it got there.
