diana magazi diana magnay is live. >> we have just seen pictures when you're probably seeing now of the chinese ice breaker, the snow dragon making its way through the ice to try to get to this ship. there are 74 people on board the ship. basically, what happened on monday night, the temperatures changed and they were literally frozen into the sea where they were. the last three days, three eye breakers have been trying to make their way towards them but it's very, very slow progress. although they can now see the snow draggan, the chinese ice breaker the first of these ships on the horizon and they are excited about it, the chinese vessel said it could take another eight hours or so before they reach them. really in the middle of the night there in antarctica. >> what was the ship doing there to begin with, diana?

downtown beirut rocked by a car bomb that killed five and injured 70. among the dead a former lebanese ambassador to the u.s. they say shaata's convoy was vuk and so far no claims of responsibility. joining us from beirut is mitchell. you were at the bombing after it happened, is that right? tell us about it. >> yes, it was. what happened was shortly before 10:00 a.m. this morning, a large explosion rattled all of beirut. you could pretty much hear it all throughout downtown and the surrounding areas. at the scene which is in a five-star area of downtown beirut surrounded by luxury hotels and nightclubs, the parliament is close by as are a couple of residents of the prime minister, things like that. it was clear that a convoy had been targeted by either a car bomb or a roadside bomb that killed as it turns out the former minister of finance and a

former adviser to the president. >> i can imagine it was very chaotic? if you could just set the scene for us. >> it was. it's not the largest bomb i have seen in beirut. it was clearly a professional hit intended to sort of get somebody inside of a convoy or an armored vehicle. a dozen cars were on fire. emergency personnel were running around. windows had been blown out throughout all of these luxury places. there was a number of very expensive stores and hotels and restaurants in the area so it was quite chaotic. probably saved a lot of people's lives that had happened this week when things are a little slower and people aren't going to work quite as early or quite as much. >> interesting. you say it's not the largest bomb you've seen in beirut. how many, mitchell, have you seen there? >> well, i've been here for about ten years and political violence has been a small thing, but it does happen fairly
