pennsylvania. three dozen cars were involved. police say more than 40 people suffered injuries and many had to be transported to area hospitals. >> in i-90 in ohio, a multiple car pileup and 15 to 20 people involved and eight people taken to the hospital and thankfully injuries were not serious. one driver started to slow down when ahead it looked like it was out of a movie. >> it started looking like the day after tomorrow so i decided to get off the next exit and 25 to 30 miles per hour and cars whipping past going a normal speed. as soon as i made the decision to get off the next exit, that is when everything happened. i try to avoid hitting the car ahead of me but the accident happened before i got to it. >> we need good news now.

households in upstate, new york, have their power back following last weekend's ice storm. it leads to the next question. what is the next week going to look like? >> it better be good or somebody is going to pay a price. >> it's going to warm up a little bit and seems like good news until the ice falls off things above you so watch out when it begins to warm-up. new york city 40 today and washington, d.c. 48. d.c. tomorrow 54 and new york city 54 a nice warm-up. look at this by sunday. zero the high in minneapolis and well below zero for the low. detroit about 10. chicago, 8. toronto 15. it's those last straggling people. if you are one person with a power line that is going to put up three more houses that is the last power line.

the budget and defense bills. the bipartisan budget will ease automatic spending cuts the next two years and prevent another government shutdown. the defense bill cracks down on sexual assaults in the military. in the meantime, long-term unemployment benefits are set to conspire this weekend because congress hasn't extended them yet. a short term extension has been proposed for three months and make it to the floor of the senate but not until congress returns to work next month. american official said to be growing more concerned about the dangers of al qaeda. cnn learned recent messages interpreted from operatives suggest the groups are trying to plan new attacks. analysts say after years of setbacks the group has made strides to rebound to 2013. >> there are multiple indications that lkal qaeda in

thailand. this morning, 30 were hurt when a bus went off the roadway. it was late at night when the crash occurred. in southwestern china, at least four people were killed in a fire at a shopping mall. chinese media reports say a natural gas explosion started this fire. more than 30 people were reported injured. in argentina, dozens of people were injured when a school of fish attacked them in a river. one little girl lost part of her finger. officials say the fish with related to piranhas and attacks like this are rare. helping is arriving as we speak. the first of three ice breaking rescue ships reaching a vessel today that is trapped in frozen seize off and ttarctica. by all accounts the 71 people on board enjoyed their christmas while at a frozen standstill.

diana magazi diana magnay is live. >> we have just seen pictures when you're probably seeing now of the chinese ice breaker, the snow dragon making its way through the ice to try to get to this ship. there are 74 people on board the ship. basically, what happened on monday night, the temperatures changed and they were literally frozen into the sea where they were. the last three days, three eye breakers have been trying to make their way towards them but it's very, very slow progress. although they can now see the snow draggan, the chinese ice breaker the first of these ships on the horizon and they are excited about it, the chinese vessel said it could take another eight hours or so before they reach them. really in the middle of the night there in antarctica. >> what was the ship doing there to begin with, diana?

adam lanza. a not guilty plea from paul ciancia accused of killing a tsa agent last month faces 11 felony charges including first-degree murder in the death of 39-year-old girardeau hernandez. if convicted he faces life in prison without parole or a death penalty. his trial is scheduled to begin on february 11th. monsignor lind accused of covering up crimes is being relieved from prison. an appeals court overturned his conviction ruling a lower court mislabeled child endangerment laws. the state district attorney says an appeal is likely. it is anything but a game and it could be a hate crime. 27-year-old conrad barread

the cost of doing business for some road warriors is getting services while traveling and they could add up to a hefty amount. if you break it down the total tax bill for a business traveler is up 58% this year. according to recent study from the global business travel association foundation. the report factors taxes on hotel stays, car rentals and meals. the top 50 u.s. destinations. so in what cities do road warriors and vacationers rack up the most tax burden? chicago was the highest with single day of travel taxes hitting $41.04. fourth was kansas city, missouri with $36.61. indianapolis was fifth highest

downtown beirut rocked by a car bomb that killed five and injured 70. among the dead a former lebanese ambassador to the u.s. they say shaata's convoy was vuk and so far no claims of responsibility. joining us from beirut is mitchell. you were at the bombing after it happened, is that right? tell us about it. >> yes, it was. what happened was shortly before 10:00 a.m. this morning, a large explosion rattled all of beirut. you could pretty much hear it all throughout downtown and the surrounding areas. at the scene which is in a five-star area of downtown beirut surrounded by luxury hotels and nightclubs, the parliament is close by as are a couple of residents of the prime minister, things like that. it was clear that a convoy had been targeted by either a car bomb or a roadside bomb that killed as it turns out the former minister of finance and a

former adviser to the president. >> i can imagine it was very chaotic? if you could just set the scene for us. >> it was. it's not the largest bomb i have seen in beirut. it was clearly a professional hit intended to sort of get somebody inside of a convoy or an armored vehicle. a dozen cars were on fire. emergency personnel were running around. windows had been blown out throughout all of these luxury places. there was a number of very expensive stores and hotels and restaurants in the area so it was quite chaotic. probably saved a lot of people's lives that had happened this week when things are a little slower and people aren't going to work quite as early or quite as much. >> interesting. you say it's not the largest bomb you've seen in beirut. how many, mitchell, have you seen there? >> well, i've been here for about ten years and political violence has been a small thing, but it does happen fairly

5%. twitter's market cap right now is at $40 billion. that is more than target and time warner cable. investors seem to be happy about the prospects for the micro bloggers advertising business and it helps to have big funds buying up your stock. performances like that. they have helped get us to where we are in the major markets and if you're clocking and taking note, so far this year the dow is up 26% and the nasdaq up 28% and the s&p 500 up 29%. it's say it's safe to look at your portfolio and puts the overall market on track to have its best year since 1997 and it may be no wonder the amount of money flowing into stock funds h has reached an all-time high. more than 324 billion investors put into these funds in all of 2000 which was the biggest annual inflow on record. the only hitch right now is the fact that the rate on the
