>> i will ask chris tucker which guys will take home a ring. a man knows a thing or two about big words. joe namath famously guaranteed victory of super bowl iii and delivered. >> i'm sensational. i feel great. >> the reason you are laughing is that this story has come out and has a serious edge to it that you have basically indicated that all of those hits and tackles over the years did cause you to suffer a form of brain injury. >> it is a serious issue. i was thinking i have grandchildren. i have daughters i didn't have symptoms to speak of but i did go get investigated and get looked at and get analyzed, took

treatment. yes, there were areas in my brain that the cells had ceased, quieted down tremendously. and we were concerned a bit. and so i have had some treatment and i feel great. >> what was itt that made you have the tests? what was going on that made you think something is not right here. >> this whole issue going on for the last couple of years. >> reading about it and hearing aboutt it. >> and going through it. in the nfl i can count the times that i had situations where i hit the ground, hit in the head, you lose it, you don't know for a while. we used to call it getting your bell rung. whenever you took time and oxygen you went back to work. well, hearing what was happening in today's game or the last ten years the awareness that we have now i questioned myself.

i remembered and i have children. i have grandchildren. >> were you experiencing strange things? you just concerned after all of that hitting -- >> not to my knowledge. i think of a lot of things. >> when they discovered that you had got the brain cells that slowed down how would you describe it? >> i wouldn't say killed off because through the process that i experience they regenerated. >> do you personally feel better for the treatment? >> i was feeling pretty good ahead of time. >> you have always seemed a fair kind of guy. >> i take care of myself through the years even though i do mess up. >> the fact that they found you had brain damage at all did that make you realize that all of this talk that when the players are bigger and faster and hitting each other harder it is a serious issue and people should take it seriously. >> what we are doing now with the science, the nfl is doing a wonderful job, a lot of people

are investigating what is going on in our heads from the jolts, from constantly hitting the ground. one lick when they happen we have to find out about that, how to correct them. can we regenerate the damage and the cells. there is positive studies being done. >> you are the living proof of that. let's move on to the game on sunday. >> what game? [ laughter ] >> it's worse than i thought. [ laughter ] >> who is going to win? >> i wish i knew, i would call home first and let my family know who is going to win. these teams are both excellent teams. it will be decided. the old thing my college coach told us, the team that keeps from beating themselves, the team that doesn't make as many mistakes as the other side. mother nature could have something to do with it. both of teams have terrific

athletes. >> let's talk about the weather. it will not be snowing. should it make difference to a great player whether it is a little bit cold or warm? >> maybe not the temperature when you say a little bit cold. but the ball gets hard. something about it it is slicker and harder to handle. mother nature is blowing a wind the ball does adjustments and tricks in the air. only the guys that handle the ball care. you know, the center on a long snap to the punter the ball can curve. the receiver is running to catch a ball and the wind gust hits it. the quarterback throws it here and the wind blows it here. mother nature can influence the game and slipping and sliding may not happen. but the wind is the most problematic part of it. temperature only because the ball gets hard and slick. >> i have been blinded through this interview by your ring which turns out to be the super bowl ring. you won it 45 years ago.

you led the jets to a 16-7 win over the baltimore colts in super bowl iii. when you saw richard sherman and his outburst was what your gut reaction? >> my gut reaction is that is not cool. two words on this ring, one is poise and the other is execution. when we first saw richard was it lack of poise? excuse me. after a while i'm thinking this guy is still in game mode. he is still fired up. in my day they didn't come right out with a microphone after a play. so i quickly understood where richard was coming from and can appreciate that game attitude at that time. and i appreciate we fans being able to see itt at home, too. so i put more stock in what i hear said about richard from his coaches and from his teammates. he seems like a good dude to me. >> he does to me, too.

you said we are going to win sunday, i guarantee it. how could you have been so sure? what was it in your head that made -- >> our team not only -- >> we were 17 and 19 point under dogs. we were far from favorites. >> you had no right to be this competent. >> other than the fact that prior to that we played beautiful football. we didn't make mistakes. we didn't beat ourselves. we had intelligent players on the offensive side that could adjust when we were changing plays at the line of scrimmage. because we were playing the colts touted as the best defensive team ever to be in the nfl folks forgot to look at our defense. we had the best defense in the american football league. so the combination of knowing what they were going to do defensively just like peyton manning has an edge looking at the seattle seahawks defense and

the anticipation of what they are doing, putting his team in the right position to execute against the anticipated defense is a big factor. >> is your money going to be with the older experienced, taller, bigger quarterback or the young pup who is smaller and perhaps a bit quicker? >> my money is going to be in my pocket to use at the grocery store. i'll tell you what. i know guys on both sides. the longer around the sport whether soccer or american football you know people move around the league. i know coaches, pete carroll, peyton manning i know his daddy. i'm not pulling for specifically or against either team. i want to see the team come out ahead that has played the best and has earned it. >> well said. your broadway joe. do you pay for a meal or a drink

in new york/new jersey. >> announcing super bowl xlviii played in the new york/new jersey area. joining me are the men responsible for bringing the super bowl to the area. gentlemen, how relieved are you it is not snowing on sunday? >> are you sure? >> i can say with some eequivocation it will not be snowing. >> we are relieved. we are on to other things. we are done with the weather. the weather is going to be good. even if snowing it would be good. >> would it have been a nightmare? persuading people to do it in new york/new jersey. >> look at atlanta. >> right. >> houston. dallas. it is all cold. weather in the 48 states this time of year can be cold.

>> it is a massive thing. you walk around new york at the moment everyone has super bowl fever at the moment. what are the biggest issues right now as we head towards the big day for you guys as an organizing committee? >> the three biggest issues since two and a half years ago, weather which is off the table now, transportation. we are calling this the first public transportation super bowl because we are losing at least half of the parking spaces around the stadium due to the security perimeter that will be in place. hence, we encourage people to take public transportation, trains and buses. and certainly security is a level one security event, the only event in our nation higher is presidential inauguration. i had a chance to go to the security center. when you see the coordination of homeland security, secret service, nypd, it is remarkable

the extent we are going to, they are going to to ensure fans are kept safe. >> you have the great stadium in new jersey and the hospitality you could want in new york. new york is claiming the bulk of the credit for this as are the new jersey element. putting it all together what are the social issues? this morning almost every single prostitute in america is apparently heading to the east coast. how do you deal with issues like that? >> it is not clear how much of that is myth versus reality. from the beginning whether prostitution or sex trafficking or human trafficking of any type it has been something the nypd and new jersey state police have been all over. it is something that we depend on them to do their job and make sure that if they are doing their job we do our job.

>> in the end it is about football. he talked about himself having suffered a form of brain injury from the repeated knocks he took. the players are getting ever faster, stronger, collisions getting tougher. it is obviously a big issue. how are the authorities facing up to this challenge? >> it is a big issue and colleagues are focused on it. and if you notice the settlement in terms of the concussion lawsuit that goes a long way to insuring that those who might have been injured during playing days will have dollars so they can take care of medical needs. there is a whole new philosophy on how to hit. you don't lead with the head anymore. this is being taught at young ages. it is going through high school and college. people are keenly aware of the challenges but a focus of the league to ensure that the game is as safe as possibly can be.

>> in terms of player responsibility, a lot of issues about the behavior of nfl players as role models. we saw a little bit of richard sherman. he wasn't cursing or threatening people. we see a lot of players involved in gun-related incidents and behavior off the field. these players earning vast amounts of money but not for very long periods of time. does that carry with it a responsibility to conduct themselves to the best possible level? >> i think it has to be a code of conduct. on the other hachnd if you get guy like richard sherman giving the audience a true glimpse of what the internal motivation and the passion for the game. they are getting a glimpse, this gentleman is extremly smart and went to stanford, great athlete and got a glimpse. is that bad.

we don't condone that. >> richard sherman to kill these opponents on the field and yet the moment he shows that raging passion to do exactly what the fans want they all start jumping up and down saying you can't behave like that we want choir boys. >> this is thepedia fanning an issue because it sells newspapers. >> are you blaming me? >> not you personally. if you want to be -- i don't think you are going to do that. >> the media fans and he made an incredibly athletic move. if he didn't extend himself which very few people can do san francisco is winning the game. if he wants to be proud of what he accomplished in the split second he should talk about it. >> what is the one thing that you guys really want to see out of sunday? what is the thing you hope for? >> i think everybody has their point. i like to see everybody have a good time and trust that you can

have a super bowl tha cold weather city like new york, new jersey and have a lot of fun and put out a great, great product. >> got to make you laugh that it is colder in atlanta. finally very quickly one word answer or two word answer, who is going to win? >> the team with the most points. >> you are not going to get away with it. >> my quarterback's brother is playing for one team. i'm an nfc guy. i think it is a great challenge between old and new. the pocket quarterback. so it is interesting to see which system preeveils. >> where is your money at? >> hard to bet against peyton. that defense is awesome. it is very, very close. >> all coming down to you. >> you have to realize my fantasy football team was 1-12 this year. i think given it is going to be

my guest is hall of fame quarterback dan marino. >> how are you? >> honor for me to be here. >> very kind of you to lie like that. let's talk about the game on sunday. who is going to win? >> i think it will be a close game. the matchup i look at it peyton manning having a great year. number one defense in seattle. they are very aggressive at the line of scrimmage. that is the matchup i think will be key. i like denver. i like denver because they have more experience. more guys played in the game. seattle's whole team no one has played in the game. it is the first time. >> i will not pretend to be the world's greatest nfl expert. i know peyton manning is massiveb and russell wilson is a tiny guy by comparison. 5'11". how much does that come into

play in a super bowl? >> the experience and russell wilson is a young guy. it will come into play a little bit but not so much for the size. i think it is more the experience. russell wilson has played incredible. he has really good players around him as far as the team is concerned. for him i think the key is to play a clean game meaning no interceptions, be efficient and good on third down. >> manning is on the verge of history. no one has won super bowls with two different teams. he is 37 years old. he has had a few injuries. this could be the great swan song or a bit of a [ inaudible ]. >> he is 37. he has come off with the injury and losing a whole year and not knowing whether he will be able to play again and having the year last year that he did. and now an amazing year where he is breaking every record. if i was him i would play again.

he just had an incredible year. >> if i asked 100 british sports fans to name a famous legendary nfl quarterback many would say you which makes it all the more extraordinary that you never won a super bowl. >> i played the first football game in wembley in london. >> i remembert that. >> that was a while back. '84-'85 something like that. montana and i. >> how do you feel about never having won a super bowl? >> i'll tell you what, when i watch the super bowl i look at it and after the game is over and i say i never had that feeling. i experienced everything else you can have on a football field and in a career as a football player but not that feeling to walk off the field and have the championship -- >> what was the greatest moment of your entire career if i said i can let you relive that moment

right now? >> as far as individual roereco and the flat pattern on the road we were losing at the time. that was the play i think called 62 text. >> when you chuck hail marys you say hail marys, hail mary, full of grace. >> if was really important, yeah. if it was really, really important. that is what the play was called. we would go flood right gun hail mary on two. >> richard sherman, i love this guy. to me i saw a man when he did this rant full of passion.

full of anger and determination. but i didn't hear him curse. i didn't hear him threaten physical violence. i couldn't see what the problem was. >> i don't think people expected it right away. as soon as the game is over usually guys are more -- what's the word, cordial to other players. richard is like that. he is one of the best in the league. he is a smart guy. if you are on seattle you want him to be your teammate. >> let's talk quickly to jonathan martin, miami dolphins defensive lineman 6'5" built like a brick outhouse but doesn't have to tools to resolve it. in my day you would use these tools. >> that is a decision you make

as an individual. >> is he being a bit of a [ inaudible ]. >> i'm not going to answer that. i'm not saying he is a woos. i think there are certain ways to handle that. some players would do that. jonathan martin chooses not to do that. that's his view and you respect that as a player. i think the dolphins you would like to think that they were going to be more supportive in that position. i think they are going to do everything possible to make sure things like this doesn't happen again and make sure they help jonathan martin as much as they can. >> let's go to the report that americans eat 30 million pounds of snacks on game day and average football fan consumes 1,200 calories and 50 grams of fat from snacking and 25.5 million gallons of beer during the day. how will i deal with this

hype than super bowl usually does partially because of this. >> i'm the best one in the game. when you try me against a sorry receiver that is the results you get. basking in the glory of dan marino. >> we all are. >> his world and we are living in it. >> very nice man. he was pretty confident that the broncos were going to edge this. do you agree with it? >> no. look, what i do agree with dan said it will be a close game. it is rare that you get the two best teams in football, sometimes you get upsets here. one game winner take all throughout the playoffs. but i think going into the season everybody thought these were the two best teams. my prediction on fox was denver and seattle. all season long they looked to be the best teams. this is going to be a great

matchup. where i differ with dan is i think seattle's defense is a special unit. they can put pressure on peyton manning unlike he has seen this season. manning has a quick release. marino may be the best of all time. peyton is not far behind. >> richard sherman made himself the number one target for the broncos but also raised his own intimidation levels to record high. i like this guy. i think he is what sport is about, a passionate character who seems to be a perfectly nice chap but on the football field you don't want to mess with him. >> i have gotten to know richard sherman. almost two weeks later people are still talking about this incident. i know you played the tape, he didn't threaten anybody. he didn't swear. >> that's what i said. >> he says he thinks he is the best and don't challenge the best. 95% of the guys in the league

think they are the best in the position. we always talk about athletes being cliched and boring and whatever happened to the guys that stepped out there? he talked about himself and said i am the best and everybody flipped out. >> was it part of the problem that fox cut away tquick? >> five minutes later he was on the set with us calm and normal. after the game you see everybody on twitter going -- the comments made about him on twitter which is the most evil place in the world maybe -- >> or joyous depending on your view. >> depends who your followers are. but the thing is the comments made about him were much worse than the comments he said. i mean, he did nothing other than don't talk about me which the other receiver michael crabtree had done that week and

everyone is giving opinion. you have a teenage son of 15 called destine which is a few letters removed from justin. what do you say to your son to avoid the bieber pit falls? >> i met justin a few times. i think he is a great kid, talented. he is going through stages. he is like unusual because he is this kid with all of this fame and money. he is having a lot of fun. he has to, you know, wake up and grow up fast because he has a lot of responsibilities. a lot of kids are watching him. he has to be more of a leader than a follower. he has more responsibility. i think he is a great kid. we have all been through stages in our life. i remember when i was a kid certain things i wouldn't do. he has to be that kid. certain things you can't do. you can have fun but you can't go over the edge. he will learn that. >> what do you say your boy as he is approaching adulthood?

what advice about the real world? >> i try to tell him he can tell me anything and we can talk about anything. he will go ethrough the stuff that i have been through but i want him to handle it well. i try to ask him what is going on in his life so he can tell me. i think that is what justin needs somebody to say what is going on. what do you think about this. have fun but don't dot that because you will get in trouble. watch out. paparazzi wants you to do that. why would you go to the club and put yourself out there like that when you are this big star. don't be stupid. he needs somebody like that. hopefully he gets that. >> is fame quite a corrosive drug in your experience? >> it is different. fame i think is unnatural. i like my anmanity. i like going to the store and not be bothered. >> you must have tremendous pressure everywhere you go even down to wal-mart people going i
