the government allegedly met with students organizing marches. the state department insists it had nothing to do with the protests. happening today in vienna, the start of talks aimed at reaching a deal over iran's nuclear program. the supreme leader has made it clear he thinks the talks will be fruitless. give us an idea of the feeling there. >> if you know iranians, you know they love to talk and debate politics. that's what they're doing at investigations in vienna. many debating where this is going to go. there's so much at stake if there's a deal struck and if crippling sanctions are wiped

out, it could boost and economy and make life easier. a lot are watching. late last year the two sides, world powers and iran struck an interim deal. that was difficult. observers say this one, the perm deal, is going to be much harder. both sides have put forth position and say they're not budging. iran want to be recognized as a nuclear state and keep facilities under international law. western powers are talking about restricting and squeezing the nuclear program talking about destroying the nuclear facilities. iran says they're not going to do that. a lot of complicated issues on the table a. they're going to see where things go the next few days. both sides have indicated they're not certain anything is going to come of this. the supreme leader says i'm not

opposed to these talks. i'm not sure it's going to go anywhere. michaela, looking at last year, no one thought washington would be sitting across the table talking about the nuclear program. that's where we are today. many see this as an opportunity to reach a win/win situation with both sides. >> certainly challenging negotiations ahead. thanks for that. morning the obama administration touting the stimulus programs. an economic event in maryland a day after economists detailed what they say the stimulus accomplished. thousands of miles of new roads, water systems and increased high speed internet. >> what is true is it was $800 billion injected into the economy at the moment the economy was catering. this morning, five years later, we watch the stock market.

jersey governor chris christie may have moved to shut down lanes for the george washington bridge for political pay back. know the port authority looking in the role the police force may have been involved in the shutdown. christie denies having anything to do with the lane closures. the probe is focused on the lieutenant that knows chris christie personally. an elementary school is reopened this morning after being shut down for a licorice smell in the water. officials insist the water is safe to drink. the national guard continues retesting it. the school district says it will continue to use bottled water for now. this morning we're hearing the jailhouse calls from michael dunn, florida man in the

. officials are hopeful everyone is now free from a frightening building collapse that left ten and more than a hundred others hurt. this happened at a resort in the mountains in the southwest of the country. we are live with the latest. what can you tell us at this hour paula? >> more than 500 students in the auditorium in the resort, many celebrating the start of the university career. it did end in tragedy.

most of the ten who were killed were aged 18 years old. one injured was telling journalists about the panic trying to get out of the building. he said there was one door in the building and the roof collapsed too quickly for people to get out. forensic teams are down there picking through the rubble to try and find exactly what the cause was. it is expected at this point there was simply too much snow in the area that weighed too heavily on the roof. the question is whether or not the building had faults when being erected. we hear from local media one policeman said there were no pillars in the building itself. that could have been a problem because it couldn't cope with the weight. a day of celebration ending in strategy. ten day and more than a hundred injured. >> thanks so much for that report. one of the snowiest winters on record. this morning the east coast -- >> you have to laugh at this

paul is in washington. a twist thinking five years pass sod quickly. remember the political fur over the stimulus? yesterday fur again. you look at that time numbers. what do they say? >> what do americans think about the economy? i guess the good news is up top. 36% of americans say economic conditions today are pretty good. that number is up from a couple months ago. bad news, look at the bottom number. 64% give a thumbs down to how economic conditions are in the country today. that's not an indicator of whether the stimulus worked or not. it's how the americans feel about the economy. five years ago the country was in a free fall. the stimulus passed with basically no republican support. they're still argued today whether it worked or not. the stimulus did stimulate the creation you could say with the

braced for cuts to pension and retirement plan this is morning. any minute now, tens of thousands of current and retired city workers in detroit expect word on cuts to pensions and retiree health care benefits. they would be part of the city's emergency management plan to bring i ddetroit bankruptcy if approved. the announcement due by march 1st is expected early this week. it is tax season. apparently the tax process in the u.s. is so complicate had the more ex pats would rather dump citizenship than do paperwork. that's three times the average according to government data. the increase follows the implementation of law approved in 2010 aimed at collecting the
