range. the suspects pulled the officers out of the booth and on to the ground where they placed a don't tread on me yellow flag on the body of officer beck. miller pinned a note that basically stated that this is the beginning of the revolution. they made the same types of comments inside of the restaurant where numerous restaurant patrons heard that commentary. >> minutes later they ran to a nearby walmart killing a bystander. the pair engaged in gunfire and ended their lives in what is being called a suicide pact. a loss of two of their own. they were both married with young children. dan simon is in las vegas with

us. are police getting any indication of a motetive? the other officer tries to respond. jared miller then shoots that other officer. eventually they make this way over to walmart. where they want to kill more police officers. an attempt to bring more officers in the store where they can confront them.

that's where a citizen sees what's going on. he's carrying a concealed weapon and he's described as a hero. amanda sees what is going on i can tell you again that authorities believe that these were people who were very anti-law enforcement. they took a flag that said don't tread on me and then they pinned a note on the other officer that said this is a revolution. clearly the suspects wanted to create some sort of massive mayhem. >> dan, thank you very much for the update. flags, writings about the revolution, a swastika. law enforcement are now trying

to put together the pieces and determine exactly why they carried out this deadly attack. let me bring you a senior fellow with southern poverty law center. with the details that we have now that we are just learning, what does this sound like to you? >> well, we found a little more about jared miller. he has a facebook page with an awful long line of complaints about the government. he talks a lot about expecting to die for the cause. so what i think is very clear is that jared miller was very much a part of the larger anti-government pariot. probably the most important single thing on his face book

keeping an eye on them. we have confidence in those requirements. >> what kind of things? >> i'm not telling you that they don't have some ability to go back and get kofed but they also have an ability to get killed doing that. >> the bam administration will be forced to defense the decision. nick, to you first on this, you have been in touch with taliban source sources and have accounts that don't al qaeda jibe. what are the taliban saying now? >> this is a taliban source who has some knowledge of some of bergdahl's's captivity.

this is also a source who has provided accurate information in the past about western prisoners held by the same network in the pakistan afghan region. initially bergdahl's was kept prisoner in a house that didn't have tight security. he was on the run for three whole days. put in a much more secure location. they say bergdahl's then realized that there was no opportunity to escape. that over time he learned the local language that he was able to tell the taliban that he didn't like the food, that he didn't like the land that he wanted more fruit and vegetables. they say they gave him english books to read and say that he stuck to his christian faith.

he wanted to celebrate christmas and easter. so this particular taliban source paints a picture of close confinement but one where bergdahl learns to speak and communicate with his captors. >> one of the things that are dif cushion for us to understand is that for them, this is a business transaction. now the picture that is emerging is still fluid and early. there is still a lot that we don't know. there were incentives or

his way back to the white house. this is after he's taking steps to ease the crushing student loan debt. let's listen to that. >> here's the problem. at a time when higher education has never been more important, it's also never been more expensive. over the last three decades, the average tuition at a public university has more than tripled. at the same time, the typical family's income has gone up 16%. >> i want to bring in cnn's alison kosik. she's at the new york stock exchange. >> if you're a former student with a not so high-paying job, this could help you out eventually because it will go into effect next year in december. what president obama did earlier today, he put a couple things on the table to make it easier to pay back the student loans. for one, he signed an executive

order which allows another 5 million students to pay no more than 10% of their monthly discretionary income on loan payments. there's a mathematical figure that works it out. the new twist with this is that it opens up to more people who would qualify, specifically, people who took out loans before october of 2007 and after making loans for 20 years, if you qualify, any debt that is left behind is actually forgiven at a cost to taxpayers. now, the second thing that president obama is doing is calling on lawmakers to pass a measure that would allow college graduates who have a lot of college debt to refinance their loans at a lower rate. randi? >> i'm glad you brought up the refinance because why would cross be against letting students refinance? >> it comes down to, what else,

money. lawmakers could wiped up cutting back on other benefits to take care of the student loan programs. but he's been making it a real centerpiece of his administration for a couple of reasons. one, there is concern that as students get out there with a lot of debt they are not helping spend money on buying things like buying a house. randi? a tragic story in australia's remote south. a man was snatched from his boat on sunday by a 15-foot long crocodile. he was pulled from the boat as his family watched in horror. the man's wife had to drive two frantic hours for help and the outcome was tragic. >> during daylight hours today, the rangers using their expertise found two crocodiles and they were shot and killed. one of those was later examined
