including two men killed in a fire fight with police during a raid last thursday. those two men who were killed authorities believe are also it is thought, fought with isi is in syria. this is significant because it means that isis has potentially or isis members have tried to strike out from the territory they control in syria and iraq into the heart of western europe. much of isis's existence until now is concerned with expanding the territory it controls in syria, in iraq building this so-called islamic state. if this scenario is correct, it would be an example of isis lashing out trying to strike back at a european country that is responsible for the bombing campaign against isis targets in

iraq, zain. >> france remains on high alert following the terror attacks in paris. >> a french investigation is revealing details about the man behind the grocery store attack and how the brothers may have fell off the radar. >> another man is on the run, this as we're learning about a series of missteps amongst french intelligence. dna on an am mission magazine and thought to be taken to the supermarket where he killed four people. a source close to the investigation says one of them is already among the nine in custody in paris.

raised. they checked into this hotel on the asian side of istanbul and were monitored after a couple days but after engaging in tourist activities the surveillance stopped. this happened in the days leading up to the paris attacks. following the attack the, the turks alerted the french they had already in fact gathered some intelligence on hayat hayat boumeddiene and they further tracked her movements. hayat boumeddiene was along the turkey syria boarder. it's a key hub for transit into syria. the tourist city saw the population swell due to the refugee influx and just about a anyone can blend into the chaotic streets and from here there are plenty of routes to the next like of their journey. we meet these two men in a town close to the boarder. they are both professional smugglers. for the last few months the

you see the cloud of tear gas surrounding them. these pictures have outraged a lot of people around the world. before officers moved in the children and their teachers held signs chanted and knocked down a fence blocking their place to play. their movement is called occupy playground and is a big hashtag on social media. more on the reaction to the tear gassing and what happened to the police involved. >> reporter: this is the moment children are hit with tear gas. they were protesting over their playground some as young as six years old activeist say. they came to school monday on a fenced off playground. children raised signs in protest calling the act terror against children and kenya the land of shameless grabbers. the children along with teachers

and activist protested the fence waving sticks and banging on it. that's when police brought out the tear gas against all of them. thousands cried out with the hashtag occupy playground. one post a quote from dr. martin luther king junior one has a morning responsibility to disobey unjust laws with a holiday commemorating dr. king which the u.s. marked on monday and the former visit president of kenya, the kids were promised laptops, not canisters of tear gas. someone must be held accountable. others blamed activist what is achieved from crying terrorized children activist pushing the agenda via kids. today was sickening. activists say this has always been about the children. >> this is the option the playground. >> at least one police officer was hurt monday and local media reports that the officer who was in charge of the operation has been suspended. cnn has reached out to police

for a statement but we haven't yet received a response. tuesday the children go back to school but not without the memory of what one activist calls a dark sad day for kenya. jessica king cnn. >> what these children went through clearly inexcusable. children are back in class after the ebola outbreak delayed the start of the school year by about three months. the schools followed a strict safety protocol including temperature screening, hand washing, and minimal physical contact between students. teachers were trained on ebola pre preparedness and schools received 50,000 high again kits as well. set to testify monday after accusing president fernandez of a coverup.

economy grew by 7.4%. the weakest expansion in 24 years. let's look at the numbers how asian march redkets are responding hong kong up by half a percent. the nikkei up by 2% and australia in negative territory but flat. despite missing the initial target. the economy continues to grow. this is the slowest rate since 1990s. let's go live to beijing for an explanation. this is a slowing growth rate but it's also good news in the sense this could be the soft landing the economic planners in beijing are looking for, which may explain why we are getting positive numbers on the sheer markets. >> yeah certainly, john. as you know from living and reporting here for many years, there are a fair amount of critics in pay beijing that take these numbers with a grain of salt and say the government

manipulates the numbers to benefit the interests one way or another. nonetheless, there were some analysts that predicted this number of 7.4% to be lower than it was. ist it's still fairly close to the goal but what is significant is the imf is predicting. they are saying chinese growth will slow more in 2015 and a 6.3% growth rate and that's a a rate a lot would be envious of. >> a big problem in beijing is essentially the housing sector they relied on real estate and a booming housing market and that's slowing significantly and there is a lot of over supply. >> yeah absolutely. wasteful construction is one way that you put it. we took a trip a few hours outside of beijing to one kind of glaring example of the government throwing a lot of money into a project that really wasn't very well thought out.

>> it's a weekday morning at the financial district in this chinese city. the government spent billions of dollars on this virtual replica of manhattan but see what is missing, the people. when construction began here in 2009 thousands of workers were building these skyscrapers modelled after some of new york's most famous buildings. today we see few signs of construction and the buildings that look finished sit empty. the chinese government denies reports that this project has run out of money but like this bridge there is a huge gap between their vision and reality. china's real estate market is declining leaving more and more ghost cities often the result of wasteful construction too many buildings and not enough tenants. because real estate has been fueling china's economic growth

a slowdown will affect a long list of industries. this empty financial district just won alarming sign of bigger trouble for the world's second largest economy. and john it was so striking to drive back to beijing and look out the window and see ghost city after ghost city after ghost city. this could be a real problem as some feel there is a real estate housing bubble that could at some point burst. >> that has always been a big concern across china. china is also a the world's largest importer of oil so with the slowing growth numbers coming out, what impact have these numbers had on the price of crude? >> well certainly consumers are benefitting here cheaper gas prices and chinese airlines are benefitting. so on the consumer side of things it's a benefit and gio politically for china because companies or countries like

venezuela and now a country that relies on oil, venezuela, china are seeking the help economically of china. china is writing these big checks and building kind of global allies if you will because of the plunging oil prices john. >> heavy writing out the checks around the world but from my experience always a big fear if it fell below 8% that was the magic number and a concern unemployment would rise and lead to social unrest and a threat to the communist party. they wanted it to be around the 8% mark. how is that calculations standing right now? >> it's a really important mark psychologically, which is why some were surprised the government allowed predictions to get below 8%. i just checked the urban unemployment rate which isn't often reported because it's not a relyiable number at 4% not

accounting for my grants and out in fact rural areas. john as you know from living here there is an unspoken pact between the chinese people and government in exchange for tolerating censorship heavy-handed approach at times ridiculous beer rockureaucracy they enjoyed double digit growth and people are making more money. if that money tap stops flowing and people start losing jobs there is a serious concern for social unrest given the fact a lot of people are young and this is the age of social media and the government is monitoring a messaging app that's popular and they are quickly trying to stomp any signs of unrest and also purpose pumping a lot of money to ensure that the growth continues and people stay calm and for the government here the communist party stays in power. >> maybe slowing economic growth they might get breathable air in return. thanks.

we have a new record for skiing lindsey vaughn the most successful woman in al line skiing history breaking a 35-yearlong record. now vaughn was actually said to break that record two years ago before a horrific crash where she seriously hurt her knee an accident that forced her to miss last year's winter olympics. vaughn broke a record her boyfriend tiger woods broke a tooth knocked out by a photographer. a shoulder mounted camera accidently hit woods in the mouth near the world cup awards podium. no word yet on when tiger will have the tooth replaced. maybe he'll leave it like that. patrick got a chance to talk with lindsey vaughn of the win. she spokane didly about tiger surprising her and the disguises he sometimes wears to avoid
