developments on this isis front and he joins us live from turkey right now. phil? >> natalie, that prisoner exchange demanded by isis was to have taken place somewhere near here in southern turkey along the border with syria where isis has demanded that jordanian authorities presents the failed suicide bomber saijida al risch shah which in order to spare the lives of kenji goto and the air force pilot. that didn't happen. that deadline was set for sunset thursday evening. jordanian authorities demanded in return before they could proceed with such a swap they would have to receive proof of life evidence of some sort that showed their pilot was safe well and healthy. they say they did not receive that and so were unwilling to proceed or unable to proceed with that prisoner exchange despite what they said was their

willingness to do. all that has followed from isis has been an ominous silence that has caused enormous anxiety in jordan among the people and the government in japan, as well as we wait to hear whether or not isis has indeed followed through with its threat to kill these two men, given that that deadline was not met and they did not receive the prisoner that they had demanded. natalie? >> so the when you say ominous silence, does that mean there's not any quiet negotiation still going perhaps among the terror group and these two countries? >> reporter: well, the jordanian authorities say they're doing everything they possibly can still to secure the release of their pilot and work to help secure the freedom and safety of the japanese journalist, as well. that presumably points to some sort of back channeling some sort of soft talking behind the scenes but publicly and
12:06 am
remember that is how isis has done much of its negotiation through videos released online there has been nothing. they made the threat those twos men would be killed if the deadline wasn't met at sunset on thursday. we know it wasn't met. from isis we've heard nothing publicly since then. >> and one more question. the jordanian pilot, since those initial pictures were released when they caught him after his airplane crashed, has have they given proof of life in this time up until this point when jordan requested it for this exchange? >> no, he hasn't been seen since. there were initial images when he ejected from his f-16 over northern syria late last year. was captured. we saw images released at that time but since then nothing, and that perhaps is the reason jordan is perhaps a little concerned about his safety
12:07 am
whether or not he is still alive. there is still a question mark there. there could be an element of jordan perhaps trying to call isis's bluff on this 0 to some degree. it is a bedeparture from regular isis behavior certainly in recent months when demanding or threatening the life of a hostage. we've seen those very disturbing videos of hostages often on their knees wearing orange jump suits and so forth with isis members standing next to them making the threat to their life. with this particular hostage, nothing like that has been seen. there has been the spoken word threat and audio threat if you like over an online video that this man's life would be forfeited in had the event authorities do not keep up their end of the demands made by isis natalie. >> all right. so many -- two countries and many people in the world watching this wait out this ominous silence as you put it.
