>> hello and welcome to our viewers in the united states and arnold the world. this hour jordan unleashes its wrath on isis dropping bombs with a special message. and in the united states the measles outbreak is growing with two new cases near chicago. we begin with jordan and the foreign minister of that country saying his government is going after isis with quote everything that we have.
11:01 pm
all in retaliation for the militant group's horrific murder and foreign minister tells cnn there is more violence to come. >> it's actually the beginning of our retaliation over this horrific and brutal murder of our brave young pilot but it's not the beginning of our fight. we have been in this current effort and we have been fighting terrorism and extremism for a number of years. yes, we are upping the aboute with everything that we have. it's not the beginning and certainly not the end. >> leaders and many others paused to remember the murdered pilot. here is barbara star from the pentagon.
11:02 pm
>> jordanian f-16s took to the sky striking nearly 20 isis targets. it came as king abdullah paid a call on the pilot's family. king abdullah with his own message. >> we are in coordination with our american friends as well as other allies in the coalition in order to make sure that we go after the targets and that we hit them and hit them hard. >> the jordanians and the u.s. have been secretly working for days to develop a list of isis
11:03 pm
targets even as isis tried to hide from the bombs. >> they are dispersing. what might be described as conventional masses. >> providing -- jamming isis communications. it may be just the beginning of jordan's response. >> what needs to happen is an integrated effort where u.s. advisors are with them every step of the way helping plan missions and direct forces in theater and helping them do things that they are not used to doing on their own. >> the u.n. commissioner for human rights saying bombing is not enough to defeat isis. >> what is needed is the addition of a different sort of battle line one waged princibly by muslim leaders and countries
11:04 pm
and ideas. and the everyday narrative of -- >> but there is every indication that king abdullah and his military are not done. we are told to expect more air strikes by jordan in the coming days. barbara star cnn the pentagon. >> the united states actually accounts for 81% of all air strikes so far in iraq and syria. that's more than 1800 while the rest of the coalition has carried out just over 400. when you look at syria before jordan's air strikes on thursday, the u.s. share is even larger topping 90%. kurdish forces are battling on the ground. they say they are making progress but desperately need more weapons. >> reporter: sunset falls in this corner of northern iraq.
11:05 pm
11:06 pm
river. it is these positions that they maintain the defense. these are so far the most effect effective ground troop ss they say they are proud to play that role, proud to be fighting ass the free will they also speak of great frustration. they say they have the manpower, commitment and desire. but they do not have the weapons they need to fight effectively. >> we need weapons and armored cars. we need all kind of the weapons because we don't have training. >> one of the real threads around here are ieds, roadside bombs. one thing they really want are armored vehicles everywhere you
11:07 pm
see people building them now themselves retro fitting armor on to civilian trucks. now as nighttime is really beginning to fall this is the time that the kurdish fighters are feeling most alert. >> phil black now joins us live from northern iraq. you gave us a good indication of what these troops have been through. some of the people we heard them say they needed more equipment. is anyone offering to help? >> not the help that they want, no. you hear this at every level.
11:08 pm
these people believe that they are fighting not just for themselves although they are. there is certainly fighting out of necessity here because isis is at their gates but they also believe they are fighting on behalf of the international coalition. they believe they are fighting well and have made considerable success. casualties have been high. and the frustration comes from the fact that they see the iraqi army being better equipped than they are and the iraqi army has been largely ineffectual. where the army has melted away in this region before they often left behind their weaponry so isis is now using that more advanced weaponry against the kurdish fighters here.
11:09 pm
so the government in baghdad doesn't want kurdistan to be particularly well armed. but, those more distant concerns mean very little. they really don't make a lot of sense to the people in this region fighting isis every day. >> i cannot imagine the courage that they they have to take on isis as they have. thank you for coming to us live. now we take you to taiwan where divers have found more bodies from 235. officials fear the age passengers missing may have floated away from the trash
11:10 pm
site. you have been saying that the conditions there trying to search for any more passengers they are really difficult? >> natalie it is cold it is damp, it is raining on and off. i want to give you a little look at what is going on behind me. divers coming out of the river and getting on those water craft that you see behind me. it's believed some of the bodies may have floated there. they have recovered four more. one of the reasons it is taking so long is because of visibility. diverers were described as linking arms and using their immediate to feel the bottom of
11:11 pm
the river. >> it's amazing that people survived this crash. what are they saying to the news media about their moments in the air before they realized this airplane was going to cash crash? >> these are amazing stories, incredible stories of survival in the face of such tragedy and disaster. we can look again up here to see the highway overpass. many of them, one particular is father of that toddler. he is praising the pilot saying he was heroic saying it could have been so much worse. many more people could have died. 35 people did lose their lives. 35 people confirmed dead at this
11:12 pm
point. i should also mention right now investigators right now with the aviation safety council. they have incredible video that shows one of the propellers apparently slowing down and stalling. what we could hear is more about what the pilots were saying and doing and the critical information about that engine. it could just be a matter of minutes before we have a much better idea of what went wrong. >> it is amazing how quickly they are going to get this information out to the public after just recovering these black boxes. thank you david for us there in
11:13 pm
taipei taiwan at the scene. >>s a trailian prime minister tony abott plans to fight challenges. he harkened back to the rival labor party and its past leadership conflicts. >> i want to make this very simple point. we are not the labor party. we are not the labor party and we are not going to repeat the chaos and instability of the later years. >> his polling numbers have plum mitted. he recently came under fire for giving prince phillip a controversial knighthood. >> world leaders renew their push for peace in eastern ukraine with hundreds killed

the french president and german chancellor also met with ukraine's president on thursday. the u.s. and ukraine are digging in on their assertion that russian troops are fighting in eastern ukraine. >> hundreds of people have been killed in the last few weeks as the violence increases between the two sides. among the city's heavily impact ed are donetsk and mariupol. >> for months, rebels have declared cease fires, argued about cease fires and accused each other of violating cease fires. now the two sides are just fighting.
11:18 pm
11:19 pm
in mariupol it found 31 strikes in a small area. dozens of people were killed there. human rights watch say that the rockets were filed from separatist territories from the east. but the fighting has spread instead to more civilian areas. civilians are in the cross fire there again, too. >> a semi final match at the africa cup of nations had to be temporarily suspended after violence erupted in the stands on thursday and it spilled out

on to the pitch. near the end of the second half when angry fans began tossing bottles and trash at ghana fans and players. >> what happened was that the team was given a penalty early on in the first half. and then from there it went haywire. there were bottles of water being thrown from the north western side of the stadium. there was a small pocket of fans in the stadium who were accosted and beaten and in some cases stoned during the game. that was when the helicopters had to come in and disperse them. what has happened is that the

entertainment. amy pascal is resigning. she came under fire for e-mails leaked online. other e-mails were racially tinged and that led to a public ap jichlt. >> there's probably someone out there who is unvaccinated and obviously the little babies did not catch this without coming into contact with someone who wasn't vaccinated. it's more anger that people aren't vaccinating their kids and for those of us who do vaccinate we're happy that we have got the coverage. obviously my kids are old enough to have both doses. >> more than 100 people in the u.s. have caught measles
11:34 pm
recently. the outbreak has triggered a debate. some saying vaccinations are dangerous while most specialists disagree. i spoke with a specialist before about the state of the measles in the united states. cases are on the rise because vaccination rates have fallen. here is our conversation and her warning to parents who choose not to get vaccinations for their children. >> in 2000 the centers for disease control and prevention announced that measles had been eliminated. that meant we had no transmission of measles within this country as of 2000. the only cases that we were seeing were being imported from other countries for example, the philippines and parts of europe. that was a huge achievement. people started talking about could we do this in other parts of the world. what's happened is that the measles is not eliminated in other parts of the world and
11:35 pm
it's coming back here now because our vaccination rates have fallen to lower levels allowing it to come back. >> why all of the sudden we know that many parents have believed that there is a link between this vaccine and autism that has been disproved by reports but now there seems to be a trend that i don't have to vaccinate my child if i don't want to. where is that coming from and what does that say to you as someone who works in the field of infectious diseases. >> there are a number of reasons parents choose not to vaccinate. fear of autism and other side effects that could be linked to the vaccinations. so you have parents who don't want to be told how to parent how to raise their child. they say i know my child best. i don't want government interference. they might be suspicious of pharmaceutical companies who
11:36 pm
produce the vaccinations. there are also those who feel that vaccines are toxic, that it's not natural. that it would be more natural to develop immunity by having the actual disease. and, you know while i understand that perspective it's not a correct one. the measles vaccine, the virus that's in that vaccine is a real virus. it's a wimpy form of the virus and so what we're really doing is a very natural thing by giving this wimpy virus to children that they can easily fight off without getting the disease and then develop immunity. so we're essentially producing immunity in a more controlled fashion. >> why are so many parents not getting that then? look at what's going on in the united states now with this spread and somehow they are not getting the message that this is extremely safe and very important for children and now
11:37 pm
society. >> right. well i think it's not just about educating people. i think a lot of people do know the science but we don't just straightforwardly listen to the science and act upon it. we also filter that science through pre-existing beliefs and values. so you have competing issues here. you have the science but then you also have ideas about libertarianism and having the freedom to do as you please and then also mistrust of the government and industry. and so it's not just you know about the science per say. i think we need to do a better job at communicating and show that we are emp thetic. >> one of america's top television news cananchors has

11:39 pm

while taking xarelto®, you may bruise more easily and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto® may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto® can cause serious bleeding and in rare cases, may be fatal. get help right away if you develop unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising, or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto® watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto® if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. before starting xarelto®, tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. jim changed his routine. ask your doctor about xarelto®. once-a-day xarelto® means no regular blood monitoring, no known dietary restrictions. for information and savings options, download the xarelto® patient center app call 1-888-xarelto or visit goxarelto.com.
