ing and hearing on the ground. >> reporter: i have to tell you a smaller crowd as you heard there from the tape, a very vocal crowd that was out here in front of the ferguson police department. maybe two hours as they gathered in front. the crowd built up a little bit but it dissipated without ins tent. in terms of law enforcement, what their focused on now is on two possible suspects that they are looking for and that search is on as we speak. >> it's just after midnight when
11:03 pm
shots rang out. >> there was gunfire and now cops have guns drawn. >> the bullet. >> after what authorities call an ambush. >> several shots were fired. at least three and two officers were struck. i don't have an official status on what their condition is right now. they are conscious. however, those are a very serious gunshot injuries to be able to sus tab tan in your upper torso and your face. >> tense moments and some police draw their weapons and others prepare for the possibility of more incoming fire. and the priority to find out who just shot two of their own. >> if you look behind me you can
11:04 pm
see where it is in relation to the ferguson police department where the officers were shot there. police theorize that whoever was responsible for the shooting was standing about 125 yards north of where the officers were shot possibly right up this street here in that area. >> dozens of law enforcement in swat gear descend, some enter the home in the front door while others try to pry a hole in the roof. three people are taken in for questioning. two men and one woman, iresha turner was one of them. >> it's 15 police. he said we know you're in there. i opened the door and scoot back. i had a red dot on my chest. >> she was protesting last night
11:05 pm
and when the shooting happened she sped away from the scene in her car out of fear possibly raising suspicions. >> after they searched the house they searched the house. they found a gun in the attic. it was not to be used to hurt anyone but to protect myself. >> she was questioned but not charnled. later on in the day, some good news both officers are released from the hospital. >> we're lucky that we didn't lose two officers last night. >> and as the day turns into night, ferguson is on edge as a manhunt for whomever shot the officers continues. >> and also tonight, there was a candle light vigil that was held by local clergy. but also to the two officers and their families.
11:06 pm
>> indeed our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by these police officers. what are police telling you about their level of cooperation that they are seeing. i know they have been reaching out to some of the demonstrators that have started talking to them. they are getting leads from them. i have to tell you it's a rift not just between black and white but between old and young. a lot of older people in the african-american community are willing to talk to police and are willing to reach out to

maybe one of the troubling things is they have to figure out the strategy to get there. >> folks, since police chief resigned on wednesday, a judge and a city manager have also stepped down. we will take a closer look at the rising officer now in the south pacific, a powerful tropical cyclone is lashing the pacific island chain. heavy rain and strong wind are already hitting the island chain. eight agencies say many people living in primitive housing in that country are particularly at risk.
11:09 pm
>> 50% of those people are living on less than one u.s. dollar per day. you can imagine the infrastructure across this area is not able to cope with an equivalent to a category five hurricane. here's the latest. 260 kilometer per hour wind gust with this monster of a storm that is running due south, parallel along with this island nation or this ark pell go of about 85 separate islands across this separate region. there are major risks and major factors that people need to consider. this is a very vulnerable coastline specially the east and south facing parts of these islands. here's why.
11:10 pm
remember in this part of the world we have a clock-wise rotation around tropical cyclones just like this. tropical cyclone pam. that means it's going to push up the strongest winds bringing a compounding effect with that ocean tide or a coastal storm surge and bring up to four to 12 meters of potential for those bays and inlet's. on top of that we have coastal storm surge and flooding with rainfall totals in excess of 300 millimeters going forward they still have another 6 to 12 hours to go. this storm is going to continue to slide south.
11:11 pm
take a sharp nose dive. the reason for this is that the eye wall will pass over that particular island region and it's very possible that skies start to clear out. people believe that this storm has passed but remember the backside of this tropical cyclone still needs to pass over that region and you will see how the winds spike back up again. this is often where we see the most potential casualties and the most destruction. the backside of the storm.
