6:01 pm
6:02 pm
well, a lot of people think, no, no, excuse me. a lot of people -- okay. >> you cannot deny citizenship -- [ inaudible ]. >> why do you say that? >> well, a lot of people think, no, no. excuse me. a lot of people, no, no. i build buildings that are -- can i tell you what's more complicated? what's more complicated is building a building 95 stories tall. okay? i think so. i'm going to bring jobs back. how much am i suing univision for? do you know the number? tell me. you're part of the lawsuit.
6:03 pm
how much i am a suing univision for? it's $500 million. and they're very concerned about it. i have to tell you. i'm very good at this. >> i don't think i will. >> i want to bring in sarah murray now in dubuque, iowa. that was quite a tense moment. tense moments that went on for a while. you were part of the exchange. what was it like? >> a pretty long exchange. what was really standing out no. when jorge was kicked out. there is always that moment when you see a reporter challenging a public figure that won't tanls question and you want to know how they hand it. and it was pretty clear that trump would not stand for it. as soon as they said to sit down, he started to see the security guards come in from around the corner. there were a number of them came up around him and escorted him out.
6:04 pm
they had this testy exchange on immigration. i think that's what donald trump was worried about. he was a little worried that his news conference would get hijack asked it would all be about immigration and with jorge asking dill questions about how feasible donald trump's plan really is. so i think it is very telling. not entirely surprising. we know this is a candidate who does not like to be challenged. when he is, he tends to hit back pretty hard. >> we didn't really, you couldn't really hear. jorge ramos was not on microphone. what was the question about? what was that exchange about? >> so he originally started asking about the 11 million and whether you could deport all of them. asking about the feesibility of and it saying he too was an immigrant. i think that set off a red flag for donald trump. he said something about jorge being from univision so it is hard to know if he knew who he was or what was going on. it was a very testy exchange.
6:05 pm
more drama thaunl expect to see in the average news conference. >> so who did people think was out of line in that room? trump or jorge ramos? >> i think both came away with the moment they were hoping to get out of it. when you think about the audience and univision, there are a lot of people very frustrated with donald trump. he is getting hammered on spanish speaking media. and they wanted someone to stick to it trump. and for trump, his voters like when he scores points against the media, particularly when he says the liberal media. so i think this is another notch of pride for donald trump. >> all right. stay with us. we'll get back to you. joining us, the former contestant, and ben ferguson, cnn political koltator and host of the ben ferguson show. i'm going to start with you,
6:06 pm
maria, did jorge ramos end up helping donald trump in the moment where he thought he might catch him off guard? >> i think two things happen. i think donald trump was helped by what ramos did and donald trump's moment right now, when he wants to continue to get percentage, that slice of the republican electorate who is frustrated, who is angry, who is resentful. and donald trump essentially embodies all that anger. and today he did that. and i think that he is going to be helped by that. but at the end, let's say he makes it to the general election. he is going to regret tonight. >> we'll get to that moment. i want to get everyone's opinion. what did you think? who was out of line? >> civility is a two-way street. jorge ramos was the first to transgress. there is no reason for him to come right out of the gate and be very aggressive.
6:07 pm
a lot of people are pointing out that he is a journalist but he was acting more like an activist. if you're going to do that, people will have a problem with that and ask you to leave. he did get brought back. i think the exchange that happened was pretty interesting. jorge ramos was at a disadvantage because he didn't have a mic on. trump came off better than if jorge ramos would have asked the question and obey the rules all the rest of the journalists had to. >> we didn't hear it there but he talks about building buildings. he said how can you build a fence? he said i build 90-story buildings. i can build a fence. we want everyone to listen to this moment. >> who is next? excuse me. sit down. you weren't called. sit down. sipt down.
6:08 pm
no, you don't. you haven't been called. go back to univision. go ahead. go ahead. >> you cannot deport 11 million people. >> go ahead. sit down, please. you weren't called. go. >> okay. that was the beginning of it. do we have the full answer when he come back into the room for our audience? i want to go to you now, ben ferguson. what do you make of this moment? who was out of line here? >> i think ramos was absolutely out of lightning. he knows how it works. you point. you call on people. this was not a candidate walking out of a car. this was an organized press conference. ramos came in thinking, i'm going to stick to it donald trump and my audience will love me and i'll make a scene so i
6:09 pm
can report on the scene. it back fired. this is why people like donald trump. he is a guy who will not allow you to bully him. he will not tate. i think the way he hand it saying, you're out of line. he's not afraid of him. he let him come back in and had a longer conversation with ramos than probably all the other journalists combined. all this will do is make donald trump look like a tough guy. a tough negotiator. this guy could be a tough president. and i think this showed that. >> do you know the press conference. he said i paid for this microphone. donald trump said i'm not going to let anybody interrupt my xroempbs in reference to black lives matter, reference to bernie sanders. what did you make of this
6:10 pm
moment? >> i thought it was very donald trump. but i thought jorge ramos had it all planned. he expected to go in and create a scene and that's what was done. i agree with what everybody else was saying. it seemed like george was more of an activist rather than a journalist. i think if it was done properly, trump would have answered his questions. it will cause another distraction like the megyn kelly situation has caused and the rosie o'donnell has caused. definitely entertaining. >> it keeps on it donald trump. one of the things about this, donald trump. we've been talking about him for not days. not weeks. it is now into months. if you're one of the other candidates in the gop field, this is worst night you could have asked for. now, no one is paying attention to you. no one is going to cover your

"the new york times" is reporting on this. instead we're talking about this. >> before i let you in here maria, he is picking fights with a female journalist. as everyone on the panel mentioned, he was not called on. as much as we respect and admire jose ramos' work, he wasn't
6:12 pm
called on. what do you think this will be on the republican party? don't they need a female and the hispanic vote? >> desperately, yes. let's be very clear. tonight's and change, both mental were playing to their audiences. so this was not a fail for jorge ramos. are you kidding me? you watch univision's reporting about this now even and they are going crazy against donald trump. and i've talked so much about this, don. for a republican party that needs to get additional support from hispanic voters, making an enemy of or ray ramos is not the way to do it. and one. things jorge was trying to give them chance to do is to clarify his immigration stance. that's what brought down romney and john mccain. >> he was not trying to clarify it. he kept telling trump -- >> one at a time. >> yeah. >> he was saying, you can't do.
6:13 pm
this you can't do that. in fact u.s. federal law does say there have to be people deported under certain circumstances. congress has voted multiple times to build a fence. >> let's not exaggerate. >> george ramos was definitely not there to help donald trump. clarify that. >> exactly. i think he was trying to give him an opportunity. >> one at a time. >> this was a univision stunt by ramos. and let's put this in perspective. if you love jorge ramos, you're not going on vote for donald trump or any republican. so let's not act like donald trump did a lot of damage to himself. oh, my gosh, he ruined something. you're not at any republican candidate. if you're watching jorge ramos,

the same way the financial crisis was a home run for barack obama coming into 2008. anyone who is an antiestablishment let alone a presidential ed election year, is hugely advantaged to fear and anxiety about the economy or about the stock market always comes back to the incumbent political party. so to the extent donald trump is the outsider looking in, he is inskredblely well-positioned to drive all sorts of counter narrative against the democrats, against hillary clinton, against barack obama and really, in his fav favor, whether that's accurate or not, is totally irrelevant. >> just because it's good for donald trump doesn't mean that donald trump is good for america. >> because whatever part he wants to take and make his own, he can. >> yeah, it's like me. i can sit here and tell you how to do a cable news show all day. but having to show up and host

and do a cable news show is a much harder thing to do. i can tell you how to make a movie. anybody who doesn't have to do it, and is which donald trump doesn't have to be the president. he's not responsible for economic policy. he's a brilliant man, by the way. and he's incredibly capable at portraying himself as a man of authority. however, his actual track record as an actual businessman is borderline -- i won't say fraudulent. it is -- he is somebody who plays the role of a billionaire businessman without ever actually creating the value of a billionaire businessman. >> but you can't discount his wealth. >> i would never discount his wealth anymore than kim kardashian's celebrity. it means that his inheritance from his father allowed him to portray himself as a billionaire businessman as a characterer in new york and then project the identity of billionaire

businessman which he inherited and then monetize that by licensing his identity which is very different from steve job. actually creating something of value for other people, which he does not do. >> he could have sat on the money. he could have lost the money. >> he's a brilliant promoter. >> let me get the question is. people are saying it's not so much about whether he's a policy walk or not. he's a good manager. and we need a good manager. >> what is the evidence that he's a good manager, don? he's declared bankruptcy multiple times. if he mismanages the e conditionmy, is he going to default? in the private sector which he says is "good business" is declaring bankruptcy and not paying his credit southerlies. and the way that's american foreign policy is a very sad day for america.

and if this man's claim to fame is that if he is willing to and happily and proudly willing to not pay his creditors, as a matter of "good business" that's not how america wants to run itself. >> i have literally got just a few seconds. you worked at bloomberg -- >> for a decade. >> yes. he said he's going to bring -- quickly. >> donald trump said that? >> yeah. >> great. that's absolutely -- i mean, again, you can say anything. donald trump can say anything and he is. >> all right. i've got to run. >> thank you. >> when we come right back, more fireworks from donald trump's iowa event tonight. plus, the rivalry that may change everything on the democratic side and whether he's going to take on hillary sclin ton. we'll be right back.
