rubio, 7, ben carson 4. the rest not doing too good. then drudge, we love drudge, we love drudge. donald trump 51%. we had a total of 668,000 votes cast. then rubio, then cruz then i'm not going to mention the next one because i don't like them very much. then news max way up ahead. you like news max, i like it, too. donald trump, first place by a lot. street, the street, donald trump, 52%. that's a lot when you have all of these guys.

donald trump, 52%, first place. then you have slate. and that's also donald trump. so we had a great time. >> from there, he opened the floor to the audience. the first question we got. >> the biggest problem in this country is muslims. we know our president is one. >> right. >> he's not even an american. >> we needed this question, the first question. >> ef we have training kafrs, this they want to kill us. >> we're going to be looking at a dot of different things. a lot of people are saying that, a lot of people are saying bad things are happening. we're going to look at that and plenty of other things. >> if that moment sounds familiar, you're right. the same thing happened to john mccain. here's how he handled that then.

this premise. we tried to catch up, ask him to elaborate, ask if he really agreed with the premise of that question? he's going to be back on the campaign trail tomorrow and over the weekend. i cannot imagine that this is the last time he's going to ask to sort of certify that he explanned on that question and what he agrees with that premise. >> what else did the audience want to know from trump tonight. >> we see a lot from him. you got a much better sense of the issues that zond trump was comfortable with. he was very clearly in his element talking about immigration, talking about

trade. not so much when people asked about the more unique things they ask about in new hampshire, like agricultural fees. or for instance about speeding up the process in family court. you really got a sense of where donald trump is practiced on certain issues and where he was taken off-guard. wasn't quite sure how to field those questions. >> appreciate you being there. thank you. coming up, reaction right now from political commentator ken madden. also with us, paul steinhauser who is currently political director and anchor. pretty good place to be. you were there at the trump event tonight. this question about muslims. again, if your vantage point, what was the crowd's reaction? >> you know, as sara said, i think since donald trump didn't react, it was pretty quiet in the room at the time, he kind of glossed over it and moved on. so there wasn't really any reaction. he wanted to move quickly to the next question so the crowd didn't have any chance to react.

>> there are some who might claim that was an overkp overexaggerati overexaggeration, this was a chance to say look, we don't need this. should he have actually confronted the premise? >> yeah, i think that kind of confrontation would have served him well. but he's not a very polished politician in that sense. he doesn't netly try to confront that or stop that. instead he tries to engage with it. one of the really important things we've seen in last night's debate was we have a whole host of candidates that are really skilled, really good on policy, focused on the issue ps. those are the types of crowds that they want to engage.

this is an opportunity for candidates to help consolidate support amongst a larger part of the electorate inside the republican party. that wants to see somebody be able to bring people together. >> how big was this tonight. >> what would the other issues that were really important to them? of. >> he's had some crowds 2000 before. fire marshalls telling me they had 3,000. for new hampshire, that's pretty large. we're not going to get the 15,000 or 20,000 that trump or bernie sanders have hads elsewhere. his crowds have been getting bigger throughout the fall. people with showing up to see if it was really real. now these are very strong sup

that did break through was the governor from new jersey. >> you're both successful people. congratulations. you know who's not successful? the middle class in this country who's getting plowed over. >> chris christie, i'm going to pay attention more there. he probably listed out more specifics than some of the others. >> others weren't as impressed. >> chris christie is great for jersey. keep him there. >> did anyone in this group of voters decided on a candidate after they watched this debate or are they still undecided? >> not a single one of those voters said that they can dhooz a candidate just yet. they narrowed it down some of them to about four or five. but they need to hear more specifics. they are, as you heard in the piece, leaning towards an outsid outsider. although there was one woman in the group who said hey, remember, obama was once an outsider, she said, and we don't like how things have turned out.

all of them, anderson, think that the country is moving in the wrong direction. one guy told me last night that he thinks the federal government is like -- they're like living in the land of oz. they're completely out of touch with the rest of the america. there's one final thought, anderson. i also ask them, could you vote for them? every time they've always said yes. in this group, anderson, they said no. they said they would write in a candidate of their choosing. they would not support the republican nominee just because he is the nominee. they would pick their own candidate. will we see some of his support start to wane? some people were talking about that last night. maybe they start to see some sort of chinks in the armor. but as you heard, trump tonight

touting a lot of online polls. you know, which were based on public clicks, that supporters say he won the debate. >> internet trolls like trump. okay, congratulations. but the actual polling data is still not come in. we have to wait and see here. >> there's a lot more than internet polls. come on, let's be fair. >> i'm giving him a little bit of a hard time. he's so proud of those numbers. i just couldn't help taking a little bit of a poke at the numbers. but sure, listen. is he wildly popular? sure. are there people who wiatch the debate that like him so many up? that's true. a lot of voters will look for sbhb who is not an established candidate. he's getting trump fatigue or second glances to start picking up from him. but most importantly, i thought since ben carson didn't shine at all, she may pick up support

from him. it's going to take a couple of days to digest this entire debate that we just went through. but i think that we may be finally getting towards some kind of ceiling towards donald trump. >> do you think that's the case? >> i like the way van put it about donald trump fatigue setting in. >> he couldn't rise to the occasion, talk about the issues. the first chance he really had to talk about something in the early minutes of the debate, i thought was really notable. >> he went out of his way to awhack rand paul seemingly out of nowhere. he's nowhere near to him in the polls. i think that kind of spoke to his attitude about the whole debate where he's going to continue to attack people and to heck with the economy or anything maybe besides immigration.

>> these are iowa voters, you have some people that may have locked themselves into trump. that's fine. >> where is he going to grow? if those are iowa voters and they uniformly said not only were they not for trump, they couldn't vote. they would write in their best friend or something, that's not a good sign. that's one focus group. but that's not a good sign about his ability to grow, especially when you have a carly who could get the anti-establishment vote. and there are some accomplishment people now who are saying good things about cary fiorina. >> donald trump also attacked her on her business record.

they talked about the money she lost at hewlett-packard and the money she walked away with. >> she had a breakaway night. but that aside, we're starting to see the scrutiny set in and she certainly has some romney-esque-like vulnerables that i know the democrats are very excited about an that donald trump would be sure to exploit. chris christie took an opportunity to put the focus back on the economy. >> up next, the campaign of jeb bush capitalizes from a key

where do you see your candidate getting into double digits. what does he need to do. and do you think last night was perhaps the first signs of some sort of weakness of donald trump. certainly his supporters said he did great. >> i think for sure it was a sign of weakness for donald trump. i thought jeb had a great night the moment you mentioned i thought was the moment of the debate, where he looked at donald trump and he said, you can disparage my brother if you want, but one thing is for sure, when this country is attacked, he kept us safe. and six weeks ago in the reagan library, jeb laid tout a plan to defeat isis. and he said i'm going to do the same exact thing. >> jeb bush is going to have a strong foreign policy. that's going to be a message resonating to primary voters. combined with his con receiver tif record of reform in florida,

we feel really good that's going to resonate with voters. >> resonating is one thing, but how do you actually start to move up in the polls. that's ultimately about getting people who are going to come out and caucus for jeb bush or be enthusiastic about jeb bush. and right now, the enthusiasm seeps to be for trump and dr. ben saar son. carson. do you see it as a long game that you're just hoping that donald trump starts to fade? >> for starter, i think we're putting together the best organization in all the states, iowa, new hampshire, nevada where governor bush was today. we've got the support of all the major elected leaders and county officials in every county.

we feel very good about the position we're in. i wouldn't replace it with anybody right now. >> you really would not trade places with anybody? >> who would you trade places with? donald trump is a ticking time bomb. there's no way that somebody who thought hillary clinton was going to be a good negotiator with iran wants the biggest tax increase in american history, supported partial birth abortion, there's no way he's going to be the nominee. >> you can't honestly say that you're happy your candidate is in single digits in the polls after all the name recognition he has and all the run-up to this. >> of course we are. like we said, people think they know jeb, but they don't know about his record. >> you're happen he's in single digits? >> what i'm saying is i'm happy the position we're in, looking at this state by state race. you've got to be able to win the early states. the iowa caucus, the south

carolina primary or nevada. i think jeb is well positioned to win. we're going to continue to go to our vote share. we just began advertising last week. if you look at the online reprediction market, jeb is quite literally the odds on favorite to be the nominee. we feel great about where we're at. we feel good about the work we're doing on the ground to make sure we get there. >> it got a big applause when he defended his brother last night saying his brother kept the country safe. is that something we're going to be hearing more of to jeb bush. he laid out a plan for defeating isis. no matter what you're going to say about his broth e, nobody doubts his commitment and his resolve to taking on the terrorists. we don't have a president right now that's doing that.

to get really sick if not die. i don't think you can start to make a list like that of things you wouldn't do. >> you had two doctors on that stage. dr. rand paul and dr. carson. is that politics? what do you think is going on? >> yeah k, i think so. i think dr. carson was strong about saying there's no link between vaccines and autism. this incentive to find a common middle ground, no, there's no correlation here. but it's a lot of vaccines so let's just cut back and do it more slowly, eliminate some. i think it's a little bit of political pandering. it's unfortunate. dr. rand paul earlier this year was saying things about some of the concerns about that time. dr. carson was more forceful in terms of the science last night, but it's dangerous not to just be absolutely clear on this and not equivocate at all.

now, donald trump for that matter, ben carson, carly fiorina, they're all political outsiders and your main democrat opponent bernie sanders is pulling ahead in some of the polls. he's running as an outsider as well. why is bernie sanders ahead in these polls? new hampshire and iowa right now? >> i said for a long time, polls are going to go up, they're going to go down. i'm very confident and very comfortable about our strategy. i feel that our campaign in iowiowa new hampshire, all the early states. now we're moving on to the states th states th states that come after. i'm excited about the level and intensity of the support that i have. so i always thought this would be a competitive election. i'm looking forward to it. this is the most important job not only in our country, but in the world. and people have to fight hard. they have to make their case and they have to earn the votes of the american voters.
