good evening, everyone. i eat kate bolduan in for erin burnette. right now both of those candidates are going to be speaking live making what is very close to their final pitch to primary and caucus voters. donald trump is rallying voters outside in new hampshire. tedd cruz is in iowa, part of a six-day swing through three dozen counties in that state. and the rest of the gop field is fanning across the early states and with the pressure on, donald donald trump is now rolling out his first tv ad highlighting some of his most controversial comments yet. >> donald trump calls it islamic terrorism. that's why he's calling for a shutdown of muslims into the united states until he can figure out what's going on. >> sara is traveling with the trump campaign.

4:18 pm
for president that. said, you just played sound for bill clinton on the stump. he had these thinly veiled jabs and that's not the only one to trump. not surprisingly, the self-selecting folks who were here and came to nashua to hear bill clinton speak, they didn't want to hear about this. even one of them, an undecided voter told us that she thought this was donald trump who's throwing a stone from a glass house and that he's just a hypocrite. so this isn't something that people really want to hear. now, the difference may be if donald trump keeps hitting hillary clinton on this. we know bill clinton when he's taking the incoming himself it doesn't get under his skin as much as when somebody's criticizing his wife. that's when he gets very defensive. if today's any indication, he ee going to try to keep the focus on his wife and push this controversy to the side. >> you talk about those hits getting under his skin, we saw that in '08. he turned out to be a liability

4:22 pm
i think the reason not to respoer respond to it is that this probably helps donald trump a little bit in the primary because he's stoking the base, but this fight has always helped the clintons. there's no reason to engage in it because donald trump is going to do what donald trump is going to do. but, yeah, amanda, please advise people to keep doing these attacks. they've always backfired. >> go ahead. >> here's the thing, brad. things are different in 2016 and that they were in the 1990s. hillary clinton opened the door herself by saying victims of the abuse should be believed until there's evidence that they shouldn't. that brings up judgment for hillary clinton. what's her role in these scandals. i never heard the answer to it. we talk about millennials who weren't around in the 1990s but have just heard of them. frankly the more i hair about them, the more alarming they are.

details coming in from the white house. what are you learning tonight? >> first of all you see the charges and the administration trying to put its hand in every step in the process. because these are executive actions and not acts of congress, you see the limits there. the changes are put out there as proposals or encouragement or guidance, these are not new laws. the biggest issue is the background check. the white house says even engaged the business of selling guns, whether you're selling two guns a gear or 200,000 guns, you have to get a license to sell and all of your buyers have to undergo background checks, and there are going to be big penalties if you don't register. that includes people not just selling at gun shows but also on the internet, even a dark home from the web. you name it. if you're selling, you have do this. the question is how is the

government going to make people register and how would they find everybody who needs to do that? what's the enforce mnlts issue there? also the white house sent a letter to every governor encouraging states to contribute more information to the background check system, things like people who would be disqualified because of mental illness or domestic violence convictions. again, this is encouragement. the white house also wants to -- there's a proposal to beef up the background check system itself, a lot more hiring, funding, having it operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week as well as much, much more funding for mental health treatment in this country. however, that money is an ask. it has to come from congress, kate. >> despite it, we're even seeing reaction before this was rolled out from republican candidates, that's for sure. michel michelle, thank you so much. outfront, with me, van

right now, tensions boiling over in the most volatile region in the world. the middle east after saudi arabia executed 47 people including a prominent shiite collar rick, that sparking protest. crowds torching the saudi embassy and today the two countries have cut off diplomatic ties and the fallout quickly spreading beyond their borders. at least three other countries are turning their backs on iran. "outfront" ed royce, the

chairman of the house foreign affairs committee. a very, very touchy, sensitive time and it's boiling over and happening as we speak. i want to get your take, as we look overseas, mr. chairman, you're watching this escalating overseas. what does this mean for the united states? does this means specially for the united states, the war against isis, specifically in syria? >> could you imagine the amount of slaughter that would occur for is the now the government in iran has tried to over throw the government in yemen, saudi arabia. if this erupts into a larger war, think of the slaughter, humanitarian crisis, imagine how you can magnify that tenfold should this lead to more confrontation. it's also going to make it much harder in terms of any negotiation over syria when you

have iran on one side and saudi arabia supporting the faction against assad. >> it's crunch time in trying to reach a peaceful solution in syria. there is supposed to be a meeting of the minds at the end of the this month. what are the chances that meeting will even go off? >> this is the other problem because now with the governments beginning lineup and shiite government on one side and sunny on the other, we lost our credibility. there is no longer the trust that the united states is going to stand up to iran and there was a day when iran or in twas concerned what we thought. when regan was president they gave up our hostages. they took another hostage and fired a missile close to a carrier and on top of that, they

keep testing and pushing the ene envelope. the jordans, the saudis and others see this and so they are no longer taking our advice. when we say stand down, they don't stand down and likewise, when we tell the iranians, i don't know what we tell the iranians because we seem to placate them. this is a problem. >> at this point, how concerned are you that this could go from a freezing of diplomatic relation, violent protest to real military conflict? >> the reason i'm concerned about that is because we saw the iranian military move into yemen and then we saw saudi arabia without telling us form a force region -- >> do you think it's a real chance? >> they went in to fight it. the same thing with kuds forces coming into this theater of operation here and pushing the idea the otola has the answer coming directly against the sunny belief system and because the iranians have this propensity to try to over throw regimes and call for the over throw of regimes, this then
