school say they've killed four attackers. right now we don't know if they're among the official death toll which police expect to rise. for more on the breaking news we want to bring in our cnn islamabad producer. she's on the phone with us. sofia, we know this situation is still unfolding. apparently it all began just a few hours ago there on campus as classes were getting underway. what's the latest information you have on if this is under control yet. >> reporter: well, at the moment we do know that we're getting reports from the military that firing at the scene has stopped, but that they are clearing the area block by block. this does not mean that the operation is finished. we're getting reports on the ground that people are still hearing hearing explosions a while ago.

it's an ongoing situation, and information coming out of that area is not very precised and detailed in. we're getting different reports from different sources, but we know that this took place in the morning today. it's a foggy morning in the northwest of pakistan. it's a situation where militants, we don't know how many have gone in. they took positions within the university which had a number of students, classes are ongoing. the new semesters have started. the it's a very big state of affairs right now. >> we'll continue to check in with you in the hours ahead as the army and the government tries to get a handle on what's happening there at the university. a positive development if the firing and gunfire has ended, but of course, as you mention, there's a bit of conflicting information coming out of the chaos right there. sofia on the line. we'll continue to update you all

has been flowing in flint for two years. she's part of class action suits alleging state and local officials lied to the community about what was in their water. >> you don't want to think about it. you want to block it out of your mind. it's like did they really do that? >> reporter: the suit alleges local and state officials made the decision to switch from the safe detroit water fly to water from the flint river. a savings of about 60 a day according to federal report. >> people are talking about rashes. they're talking about hair loss. they're talking about seizures that never happened before. we're talking to women that have had miskarcarriages. >> reporter: officials failed to add something to the water that then allowed lead from some of the system's pipes to contaminate the water. the suit states that early made

the decision. >> can you explain why you twice declined to go back to detroit water even after there were problems? >> i'm not at liberty to answer any questions regarding that situation. >> reporter: the governor admits the water crisis is a disaster, but many are questioning the response. according to a new lawsuit, the uscpa wrote a detailed memo vout lining unacceptable levels of lead in flint's water. that was shared with state officials but no action was taken. it wasn't until october, 2015 that the state changed flint's water supply. so far hundreds of residents have complained of health issues, including ron have a kelso who know worries about the future of her 12-year-old daughter. >> what are you asking for? >> paying for poison. i'm asking for compensation for injuries to my daughter. i'm asking for compensation for my property damage.

doctor, how concerned should pregnant women be if they've traveled to those countries in south america and the caribbean, and what symptoms should they be looking for? >> the symptoms are mild. they include rash, fever, joint pain, and sometimes red eyes and a headache. but what's really concerning is now is this link between the virus and a very serious birth defect in children. it's a birth defect that's where children are born with an abnormally small skull and an underdeveloped brain. we've been hearing from doctors and scientists that they've been telling pregnant women to be very careful, to check for any of these symptoms, to see a doctor. it was on a few days ago that the u.s. cbc issued a warning about avoiding these pregnants because of the risk of contracting zika. >> a pregnant who has traveled there gets screened and finds

she's been exposed to the zika virus, what then? >> doctors say go to a health care provider. the most that doctors can co-at the moment is monitor that woman throughout her pregnancy. they'll use an ultrasound to check the baby. at the moment, that's the most that can be done. there's not a specific treatment for zika. there's no medicines that can prevent the virus. >> it's a real concern. what's being done to try to stop the spread of this disease? >> it's a lot to do with awareness and education. one of the things that's frustrating is that the mosquito that spreads this virus is an aggressive biters. it bites throughout the day and it likes to come indoors and bite inside as well. the key thing is bite prevention. that means long sleeves even

when it's hot, and using window screens. it's a scary virus. we're left with basic measures to try to prevent the spread. in brazil, there's been an explosion of cases, up to 1.5 million people. in columbia upwards of 1,000 cases reported every week. there's not a treatment for the virus. preventing mo quito bites is the most important thing to do. >> what happens to a baby born with this virus? >> it can vary. sadly, sometimes it causes death in a baby. other times it can cause developmental delay and intellect wall disability. it's a very concerning birth defect. the cdc is asking for more

breaking news in the hours ahead. let's turn to the weather. a massive winter storm with a potential to impact more than 50 million people across the u.s. is brewing. some cities in the northeast u.s. this weekend could see up to two feet of snowfall. that's more than half a meter. let's go to pedram who's been following this closely. who will be hit in. >> pick any major city across the northeast united states. pretty significant snow accumulations. all the eyes are turning across parts of the eastern u.s. as we're watching a storm system developing across parts of the northeast u.s. it will dive into the gulf coast and push toward the eastern seaboard. the moisture in place, and the cold air already lined up in police station as we place as well. right now two possibilities likely. one of them takes the trek parallel to the eastern see

boar -- seaboard. another one is offshore keeping it confined to the mid atlantic region of the united states. heavy snow and significant impact possibilities at this point right there across the nation's capital toward virginia. the delmarva region, heavy snowfall from philadelphia to new york. moderate toward boston. the european model which has had good history, puts the bulls eye around the d.c. area and points south where the model thinks potentially 24 inches of snowfall. philadelphia, six to ten inches. new york city, just under 10 inches. boston just under 5 inches. tremendous wind as well. any time winds are over 35 miles per hour, you keep that going for three to four hours, blizzard like conditions develop. this is a widespread potential for blizzards to develop sometime saturday morning into saturday afternoon from washington toward new york city,
